Description

Prominent perfumer Mark Buxton is famous for his top-notch perfume compositions by the houses of: Givenchy, Paco Rabanne, Versace, Salvador Dali, Chopard, Cartier, Ferre, as well as for his long-term cooperation with niche house of Comme des Garcons. His motto is: ”Simplicity is the ultimate level of luxury.”

Besides his author work in perfumery, Mark Baxton’s interests intertwine by connecting exploration of top quality and beauty. English painting, antique and gastronomy certainly make a part of mosaic of personality and world view of the famous perfumer. New, personal collection he has recently presented, was named Metamorphoses of Colours and Moods.

Colours are closely connected with mood. Mark Baxton demonstrated secrets clearly and simply by connecting colours and person’s character and mood in his collection of seven fragrances, with the offered colour palette. Choose your colour and you will be offered a range of notes and aromas.

Collection Metamorphoses of colours and moods encompasses seven perfumes with the following names:

Wood & Absinth

Black Angel

Hot Leather

English Breakfast is a morning fragrance. 7 AM, location Japan. Englishman is traveling in early morning by speed train Shinkansen to Kyoto. What is he doing at this time? He is opening a sushi-shashimi box and having breakfast. The composition presents bergamot, orange, pepper, ginger, coriander, galbanum and geranium in top notes, with marigold, jasmine, rosewood and gardenia in a heart. Base notes incorporate patchouli, vetiver, labdanum, fir, cedar and benzoin.
English Breakfast was launched in 2008.

With a name like English Breakfast, what might one expect but a black tea scent? Dark Assam, moving toward leatherishness… In fact, Mark Buxton had something else in mind and instead made a pleasant gent’s cologne with woody and aromatic qualities very reminiscent of some of the simpler cologne-like offerings in the Hermès line. I agree with Apicius, who generously provided a sample of this now-discontinued creation, that there is some overlap here between Terre d’Hermès and Eau de Gentiane Blanche (not so much Pamplemousse Rose, to my nose). In fact, English Breakfast seems something like a cross between those two compositions, though I doubt that any plagiarism was involved!
No sushi scent, needless to say. Instead it’s more like the clean and slightly misty scent of a well-kept sushi restaurant, perhaps caused in part by the steamed rice. I don’t really smell rice here, but the steamy atmosphere created–not aquatic–is similar to some of the Toykyo-inspired perfumes I’ve tried, including the Guerlain Voyage entry.
Guys could wear this pleasant composition to the office and everyone around them would smile. I do hope that Apicius is wearing this one to work as it is, as he correctly observed, the perfect office gent’s scent. I definitely like it better than any of the aquatic men’s colognes and it is softer than most of the citrus men’s colognes as well.
Perhaps English Breakfast was discontinued because everyone else (like I) believed that it was going to be a black tea scent, when it is nothing of the kind. Or perhaps it was the poorly selected ad of a man eating sushi on a subway from a bento box. A propos: the Japanese really do eat some wild things for breakfast, a meal which is not so different for them from lunch or dinner. When I was in Japan I was initially shocked to be served fish and exotic vegetables in the morning when I am accustomed to having only a triple expresso and a pitcher of ice water. No food before noon for me.

English Breakfast Mark Buxton for women and men

I find this to actually enjoyable, though it’s not feminine at all and would be best suited for a male. On my skin it smells like a clean skin of a man, it first was fresh with all the citruses and ginger/vetiver combo, then it turned more and more warm, but still very clean and classy, I started to get fir and resins. I don’t get any flowers though, but I might swear that there must be lavender hidden somewhere.
Guys, give this a try, it might work wonders on your skin.
Not working for me though, but I’d love to meet a classy guy who’s skin smells like this.

This is a complex fragrance – quite unusual! it opens with a burst of flowery orange (for want of a better description). There is an underlying scent of ginger led spice. It dries down to a slightly powdery gardenia/jasmine concoction which is quite pleasant but very different to the opening!!! At the base I find another set of smells which seem divorced from the middle stage! Patchouli, which is soft and just as I like it, Vetiver, which I love and oddly fir … !!!
Silage is good to moderate and this lasted a good 4 hours on my skin!
I think the oddest thing with this is that each time I sniffed the scent had changed radically as if I was wearing a different one each time! I would definitely buy this if only for the oddness!
BTW NOT A FISH-SCENT TO BE FOUND! I must say though that I LOVE to eat Sushi for breakfast – thankfully I am able to understand that Sushi nor Shashimi doesn’t need to contain fish at all – I love my seared beef shashimi!! But I also love to eat salmon sushi and tuna shashimi for breakfast! Shame some people are so stuck in their closed little minds!

Are you guys kidding us? Sushi and sashimi at 7am? Stinky raw fish at 7am? Sorry, but I’ll stick with a cup of coffe. A woody chypre of no interest. Nothing worth talking about…jump to the next!
    Rating: 3.5/10
