Description

Embers accepts no reproach, exacting attention with tiny sparks of pink pepper, nutmeg and clove; hot and cold spices in balanced contrast. This landscape of tempered heat engages the emotions, wrapping and weaving with obscured familiarity. Gently stoked incense rises, trailing memories of sunlit mahogany temples, the warmth of ritual fires and the smooth-cool touch of ancient stone. An enveloping mystic aroma grounded by resinous styrax and labdanum’s ambery tones. Together lending a soft, opulent incandescence that smoulders with the promise of something equally beautiful emerging again. Sandalwood’s milky nuance and evocative aroma of young green woods, coupled with Peru balsam’s seductive billows, continues the deeply pure signature. When roused by the heat of the skin the eagerly awaiting embers of this modern oriental are ready to leap and burn again, renewed from what it once was to even brighter flame. Embers was launched in 2013.

I love this!!!…definitely agree with other reviewers on the sweetness factor…which really balances the smoky, woody, notes…this is not in your face burning-down-the-house smoky…nor are the incense notes particularly church-y…this is a very well-balanced slightly burnt wood, slightly lit incense perfume with a light toasting of cloves and cinnamon on top to keep it interesting…absolutely fantastic…

Oooooh, it’s so lovely. The spice and incense are stunning, dry, somehow transparent, totally warm and enveloping at the same time. The wood and resins which kick in later are soft and cuddly and gorgeous. Certainly among the top 8 incenses I’ve smelled if price were no object. (For my money it is, yes, more complex and more lovely even than CDG Avignon, but maybe not quite as spine-tinglingly good as Wienerblut Ex Voto). But unfortunately money *is* an issue – this is seriously expensive stuff as it claims to be extrait strength, but on me has less longevity than most EDPs. So … if someone bought me this I would love it (and them) forever, but if spending my own earnings I would look for other things in the same ballpark at a slightly less intimidating price. (And on really budget days I’ll layer Library of Fragrance Fireside and Amber and imagine it comes close to this.)

Luca Turin on Embers: “Embers smells so convincingly of burnt matches that it will probably set off smoke detectors in aircraft.”

A spicy start with cloves and pink pepper interwoven with an ambery incense. The incense is fairly silent and when the spices withdraw Embers turns into a more woody – soft incense, with a balsamic amber touch produced by the resins.

Embers is what the name claims it to be, a soft glow in the dark. But reading the review by Madrona below I can also clearly associate it, especially in the dry down, with a real wooden and wood heated sauna.
No matter which interpretation I choose it is a perfect scent for cold winter days.

I have one word for this.
    Sauna.
I’m not talking hotel sauna, nor gym sauna. I am talking the wooden sauna your grandfather built on the island where he grew up, his adjacent childhood home now serving as your family’s summer cottage. There’s no running water and no electricity, don’t even think about 3G coverage, but who needs that when you have sauna, stars and sea? I wish for all lovers of smoky/woody orientals to experience an old, wooden Finnish sauna one day, it is a fragrant experience like no other.

I’ve already tried many RBR fragrances, but unfortunately none of them lasts long on my skin. (I liked Tenera and Muse for example, Tenera’s longevity is ok, but Muse fades too quickly on my skin…) But this one is very interesting. I’ve tried it today for the first time and I can’t stop sniffing my wrist. I’m usually more into oriental scents, and this one is far away from my comfort zone, but it’s so exciting! After spraying it on my wrist, I immediately smelled pepper, quickly followed by nutmeg. Some minutes later, incense is coming up. It’s not a “churchy” incense like in ELdO’s “Attaquer le soleil Marquis de Sade” (which I adore as well), it feels warm, spicy and comfortable. Probably because it’s so well-blended with the other notes which I can’t really identify.
I’m still thinking of whether I am ready to wear such a smoky scent like this… (it’s two hours ago I sprayed it on)
I think I need some more time to decide. Especially taking into account the longevity about which I can’t say much. I’ll give an update later 🙂
    EDIT: Longevity is incredible 🙂

just retested this thanks to a lovely fragrant friend of mine… this is something I have smelled before but I cannot quite recall what it was. Or maybe the fact there are quite a few labdanum & incense dominant fragrances out there. Will report back when I finally resolve this intriguing mental challenge. 🙂

Nice fragrance, but agreed with what many below have said about it not being intense enough. When looking for a woodsy / smoky / spicy fragrance I think that is key – in this sense similar ones in this price range go a lot further like Nanban and Vento nel Vento Bois 1920, Lillipur Tiziana Terenzi. This also had a slight overdone note at first spray I think it was the pepper, but like in Kenzo Elephant (also a very spicy fragrance of this kind) it wasn’t particularly pleasant. But mainly the lack of intensity is what puts me off liking this.
*I sprayed a total of 6 times, this way I can smell it pretty well, but 6 times is too many in one go there are others where 1-2 is enough to get this intensity.
Tested a second (different) tester and this was far more intense, one spray was enough and WOW. This is now on my buy list… I do wonder, if they water up some of these samples!

Okay, I picked-up a bottle of Embers back in October. My first impression was…well, that it was decent light-incense fragrance but, for the money, I was left wanting more and therefore a bit disappointed. This is merely my first impression since I haven’t spent much time with this fragrance.
I tend to like my incense fragrances a bit more full-bodied such as a Tom Ford Sahara Noir, Montale Kabul Aoud, Myrrh Imperiale and others. To me, Embers was on par with lighter incense fragrances such as Bentley Intense and Mauboussin M Generation, which are both nice designer incense fragrances…but I didn’t pay a designer price.
I hope to update this review in the coming weeks. Until then, it’s a tepid like for me.
Update: I’ve been wearing Embers now and again for the past 2-years and it really has grown on me; love this lighter elegant type of incense fragrance. It lasts an honest 8-hours on skin even though it stays closer to the skin (i.e., personal scent bubble)

This stuff is flat out amazing! My first Rouge Bunny Rouge, and if this is representative of quality and impact, I will seek out others! Goes on bright smokey, like some kind of hot, very dry day in the pines. A punchy opening of an almost holiday spice? A whiff of a floral, a very green floral introduces an ambery quality, and after some time entertaining, it settles into what reminded me of CdG Sugi. This is a well executed, well balance and interesting scent. Two thumbs way way up!

Pepper and incense upfront – in an intoxicatingly mix, which does not evolve as much into the dry down save that the pepper calms down a bit! Well blended with moderate sillage and decently long longevity. It is an utter delight!
It is in the ballpark of Encens Satin by Armani Prive as well as retaining references to other incense (olibanum) focused scents like Armani’s Sahara Noir, and being more distant from liturgical incenses like CdG’s Avignon, Heeley’s Cardinal and Jovoy’s La Liturgie des Heures.

A lovely amber incense with resin and smoke. I’m really liking this one. It’s not very different from other incense resins I have but it’s lighter, like a sheerer, sweeter version of Messe de Minuit, which is a strong, resinous church-style incense. This could be considered a summer incense scent, as it’s light enough to wear in sultry, humid weather, but still give you that dark, gothic feeling. Loving it.

Its funny how the mind olays tricks on your perception of scents,
with the name Embers, youd expect smoky incense to be the heavy layer throughout.
When you first get this, and first spray, yes, you really do think its all about woodsy smoke.
However, give it some time, a few days and revisit. its all about that nutmeg. Sure the incense is there, and certainly helps bolden up the whole affair, but the spicy notes are what carry this fragrance the distance,
Its a great scent, and ive had two testers now, and fell in love.

To me, first sniff is basicly burnt sugar with the rest of the notes providing a nice addition (spices, balmy and woody notes). Well-done amber although would not say it’s particularly outstanding. Smells classy though (as well as priced as such).

With a name like “Embers” I was expecting more smoke and dirt, but instead there is a borderline sweet (but not sugary or light) note to the balsamic and sandalwood component that I absolutely cannot keep my mind off. For me this is an incense-forward perfume with only fading complexities of spice and florals, but that isn’t a bad thing. The balsam swings between something esoteric and menacing, and then back to a comforting, ambery gourmand. Like Baba Yaga has been baking all day.

Cinnamon is my favorite note of all time, so i was pleased to smell that cinnamon affect with pink pepper paired with labdanum. Sprayed on skin, nose to wrist, cracked a smile and now my face is stuck. Cinnamon gentleman, this is for you. Embers is a double agent; part warm bodied and part stone washed. At a quick glance, this reminds me of something Andy Tauer would have created a la Eau d’epices. The incense here is burned down to the stem accompanied by heavy labdanum and a galore of nutmeg. What’s interesting is I found embers dry down to be very similar to the opening of Lubin’s Akkad. Not to be ignored, this bunny has enough bounce to be on anyone’s top shelf. It’s that good. When people talk about best incense fragrances on the market, Avignon is often mentioned. Welp… Embers is smashing that, EASILY!
