i get a very strong rosewater mixed with other florals and tea. it smells very wet and dewy. there’s a sweetness to this, likely from the red currant. there’s also a sourness, which likely comes from the artemisia. it’s like a souring rose with berries in a bowl of tea. the sourness and sweetness combined just don’t work for me. also the scent does not conjure up black roses in my mind. yes there is a sourness, but overall this is too sweet, fresh and watery to bring dark roses to mind.

This is my first review on this site. I have to say that I cannot stand this fragrance and roses are my jam! This made me smell like an old lady who is wearing way to much perfume. I felt like I smelled like moth balls.

    HALLOWEEN PARTY PERFUME
    ELVIRA MISTRESS OF THE DARK
    REVIEW FOR BLACK ROSES
Elvira’s Black Roses include notes of:
Rose water, tea, bulgarian rose, artemisia, red currant, patchouli, amber and haitian vetiver.
Ok so this is my favorite of the Elvira fragrances. This is by far the sweetest and closest to an actual store bought fragrance. It IS a fruity floral but it has a very unique development. It’s supposed to smell like blood spilled on roses, the redness of blood.
A cherry note – which is actually a red currant – is fruity and sweet, delicious even. It reminds me somewhat of the cherry in PETIT ROB NOIR by Guerlain. There is also a tea note which gives it an herbal tea air, green, and aromatic. The artemisia is also there to give it that green herbal smell. There is rosewater and Bulgarian rose but that rose water is the stronger accord. It’s more like rose scented hand soap which is pleasant and I actually like.
The red currant-rosewater quickly turns to a light Oriental body of patchouli leaves and amber. I love amber based perfumes but this is mostly a patchouli. If you had to boil it down to 2 notes: it’s patchouli and rose. I like those two accords and it smells unisex, and strong. However when I mean strong I mean only when it’s fresh and you have just sprayed it on.
Sadly this scent fades away after about 30 minutes or less. But while it’s on me it’s such a sweet fruity rose patchouli fragrance with a base of vetiver which gives it an oiliness, soapiness and even cleanliness that is not my idea of a Gothic perfume.
Some musk or incense would have really made this more like Elvira’s personality.
Sweet and very pretty, easy to wear, clearly meant for the young crowds to wear on Halloween.

Beautiful and unique patchouli rose. If you like fragrances like Voleur de Roses you’ll like this one. It’s a patchouli and tea scent. It has a sweet rose water note. It’s green and cold roses and tea with a little bit of spice + spices. The red currant like another reviewer mentioned is like red wine. The Haitian vetiver is spicy and strong. This is also unisex and men can rock this baby just as they can Voleur de Roses or any patchouli based fragrance. This is dark and a tad mysterious but most of all sweet. It just reminds me of Voleur de Roses. It’s an evening fragrance and of course being Elvira’s perfume, perfect for Halloween Night. I have dressed up as Elvira on Halloween in previous years but could never find the right fragrance to match up with the costume. Well now I’ve found it.

If Cassandra Petersen Elvira Mistress of the Dark smells like this she must get a lot of compliments and attention. This is a beautiful rose fragrance. Don’t be fooled by the imagery and the name. This is no Goth perfume. Black Roses? They’re red and pink roses. There is a touch of vetiver which gives it some depth and unisex aspects something a little bit like a thin veil of soft incense, but that’s the patchouli doing it’s thing. The scent is mostly a nice rose scent. It’s also got some red wine in it. It smells like Elvira is pouring herself some red wine and she’s got roses on a table next to her. Romantic elegant and womanly. Wear this to seduce someone.

Nice bright singular rosy rose! It’s green fresh and grassy. I think this would be appropriate for anytime day or night and any part of the year. You can use a ton if you waaaannnnt… Go ahead and layer it! Come on it’s okay, Demeter says you can. Elvira WANTS you to!

This makes me think of an enchanting night in a garden, under the moonlight, being serenaded by the sounds of the night. I love it to wear at night as something that isn’t too heavy but seductive enough to make people ask what it is only when you get pretty close to them.

Not a bad rose actually, not overpowering. Little rose and tea, something cinnamon maybe, worth a sample at least. Could be a little stronger but it’s not bad.
The longer I have this one the more prominent the tea becomes. This is convincing me to buy a full bottle!

I was expecting something a bit “dark” , but what I get is a very sweet Rose water scent, with lots of tea .
It’s nice , but I wanted the Patchouli which was no show on me .
Good for everyday use especially if you like like sweet rose.
    longevity is a 10 !
Of course I still love Elvira .
