This is definitely a very nice fragrance. I am racking my brain as it smells so familiar to something from the 80’s 90’s era. I can’t put my finger on it. Maybe older Victoria’s secret (Not original Victoria) but something perhaps from this line? If someone figures it out let me know.
I am not experienced in Elderberry or Gooseberry but my take on this is that it’s a sweet distinctive smelling cologne. I do not get any hint of tropical as stated in the notes. I don’t know why but it reminds me of cooler weather. I get some spice in here and perhaps that’s what reminds me of the Holiday Season. For a cologne it’s got tremendous lasting power and silage especially for a Malone fragrance. I understand this was a limited edition. Definitely worth a try and very feminine. If I had to associate this with an emotion it would be happiness!

I’m a lipstick junkie and I don’t get the connection from others have written about, neither is it synthetic. Anyway, this smells like gooseberry on steroids. Love the tart and sweet, such a nice balance. The lychee and elderflower are also present. This is an outrageous combination that lasts on the skin. It’s very concentrated so one spray is plenty.

If you try this and get a synthetic note that you don’t like, don’t despair! One thing I’ve noticed about both this and the Redcurrant fragrance from the same collection is that it takes a couple of sprays from a brand new bottle before the true scent comes through.
The first time I wore this, I got the lipstick / My Little Pony scent that people were talking about. Meh :/
The next time (and each subsequent wear), the scent stabilized to the following: An opening of fresh, tart gooseberries with just enough cream on top to balance the sourness. As time wears on, the fresh gooseberry recedes, turning the healthy fruit mix into a fluffy and elegant gooseberry tart – not too sweet, a crisp sugar shell with fluffy gooseberry mousse inside, covered with light vanilla cream. Love it, and love the transformation!

Jo Malone’s Elderflower & Gooseberry was, unfortunately, a bit of a disappointment for me. I was so eager to try it, because I am a huuuge fan of gooseberry. But apperently I only like to eat them.
The fragrance is very sweet, very fruity and a bit sour. When I tested it I liked it and because it is a limited edition I bought a full bottle..but soon regretted it. It was just too much for my nose to sniff all day. I would have liked it better, had it been fresher, and maybe a bit less sweet?..
I’d say, it is quite an unusual scent, but unfortunatley not one for me 🙁
Maybe it’s just my skin chemistry though, so I do recommend to at least try it! 🙂

You’ve never smelled anything exactly like this. And I do think there’s some appeal in smelling “unique”. I do agree with the lipstick effect, but only a few lipsticks smell like this, and they are lipsticks I spent ages sniffing. They’re one of the first perfumed things I started to really notice.
This is an amazingly lovely slightly spicy sweet scent. The opening is like walking through a garden full of spicy and powdery elderflower, while nibbling on a ripe and sweet gooseberry on a hot summer day. Perhaps while wielding a frilly parasol to protect you from the sun rays.
Like I said before, it opens with spicy and sweet powder. There’s no creaminess like you might expect from a dessert-inspired perfume. The perfume stays true to it’s soul all the way through, and dries down to simply sweet powder, without the spicy bite I pick up in the opening.
This is one of the few fragrance samples I wore to death, and I am now dying to get a bottle of this. Words can’t explain how much I love this.

I absolutely love this; it is what I hoped Redcurrant & Cream would be (which I also like a lot)…I don’t really smell lipstick or plastic, though old My Little Ponies did have a powdery plastic smell. I smell berries and something very very lightly floral and sweet.

Powdery like icing sugar, but floral, green and sour just as he does…
Sweet and soft, i could allow my five years old daughter to use this one

Elderflower and Gooseberry is a pastel purple and green My Little Pony doll, with a very long tail… The sweetness goes on and on…
E&G is a powdery sweet and slightly tart, soft fruity floral. I think this one is very pleasant, but the elements are not true to life, though that does not bother me in this fragrance. Perhaps it would have been slightly more interesting if the notes were more realistic, but I’m working with what I’ve got. Even with the CGI Fruits and Florals, it still doesn’t smell anything like lipstick to me like some other reviewers noted, especially not after smelling Prada Candy, which to my nose has an outstanding waxy-lipstick note in the opening.
When I was a little girl, my mother gave me perfumed powder to use, instead of an alcohol-based fragrance. It smelled mostly like powder, but with the added soft sweet dimension of something vaguely fruity and flowery. I think the longevity with E&G is pretty good for Jo Malone, and it projects very well for the first few hours.
I could see this being a great brunch fragrance, or as Rosecat suggested, for afternoon tea. When you want to wear something soft light and fresh, but don’t want it to interfere with your mimosa, poached eggs, spring salad, and goat cheese spinach croissant, E&G is a pretty safe bet.

I told the sales rep at Neimans that this smells like lipstick and she kept wondering what I meant by that. LOL. This is the only one of the Sugar & Spice collection I do not have, and I don’t think I will complete the the collection just for some “lipstick in a bottle” that I probably would rarely use.. I’ll give it another sniff upon my next visit to Neimans though, maybe my opinion will change.

This smells like baby wipes but can be nice toward the end

I was very fortunate to try this collection, and whilst the others are great, I really want this one. Its a beautifully smooth light floral gourmand, and unlike the other Jo Malones. I eat both gooseberries & use a lot of elderflower & elderberry so I am very familiar with them. Its captured the softness & sweetness of these but neither of these notes stand out to be obviously recognisable. Its creamy, powdery & sweet, likened to say elderflower cordial and gooseberry cake dusted with suger and cream, that kind if cake sweetness. Perfect for an “Afternoon High Tea” outing but you may be mistakenly put on the menu! or imagine wearing this on a warm spring day swanning around in pretty dresses. Its a beautiful gourmand worth trying or those after something soft & cuddly.
