Most scents marketed as a recreation of Marie Antoinette’s perfume are really nothing more than huge splashes of nauseatingly overpowering florals.
This is not one of those, I can assure you. There are florals, to be sure; but they are not injudiciously thrown together in the bottle. What you’ll find is that each note within the fragrance takes its time to present itself to you, gracefully sliding from one note to another.
I ordered the sample last December, and used most of it before New Year’s. (Be sure to order the Parfum sample – more expensive, but OH SO worth it!)
Oddly, it is the men that gravitate to me when I wear this perfume, demanding to know what it is I’m wearing. It has received a cooler reception from the women I know. Maybe they’re just jealous because they can’t covertly run to Macy’s and buy it. I suspect that’s it.

This aroma is an absolute drug. Intoxicating, complex, euphoric, feminine and rich. Beautiful and lush. I read about it while reviewing a book on Marie Antoinette and became enchanted with the story behind the creation of this exquisite and unique perfume! I started with a sample (from DSH – gotta order this on-line; can’t get it anywhere else)and then ordered the EDT, and then ordered the parfum. If you are looking for your ‘signature scent’ and you want something sophisticated, classic and feminine, THIS is the scent you want! (But if you live anywhere near St. Paul, MN don’t buy it cuz I want to be the only one wearing this profoundly gorgeous perfume!) ; )

It’s hard to write a review when your nose is glued to your wrist and you just want to sit stuporously and glory in a great fragrance. However DSH’s Eau de Trianon is so good and apparently, with only two reviews, so underappreciated that I felt I must.
According to the text on dshperfumes.com, Eau de Trianon is based on the notes used to create a fragrance commissioned by Marie Antoinette, which she wished to be a reminder of her garden at Petit Trianon. It would be a mistake to think it can only be appreciated as an historical reconstruction, though. It’s a wonderful fragrance in itself.
This is a seamless, light, floral-predominant fragrance with some gentle green notes and citrus at the top and a dry down the dsh site describes as “a warm woodland vetiver-sandalwood-moss note” (these base notes are not listed by fragrantica). Since I’m not skilled at describing notes, perhaps a comparison to another perfume is in order.
Galbanum’s introduction to the floral heart reminds me a little of Chanel 19, but Eau de Trianon lacks 19’s iciness and spiky edges. Trianon is what 19 might be like if she let her hair down, put on a twirly skirt and rolled around in a meadow of flowers, more relaxed and lighthearted, but still an essentially complex and elegant fragrance.
Pure love from me.
