Never intended to be used on the skin folks – this is not perfume in the traditional sense.
    From Guerlain:
A unisex fragrance to spray directly on your favourite jumper or scarf, for the ultimate touch of elegance. Perfumers reveal their latest secret to scenting your favourite items of clothing. This original and unique way of applying perfume can be used with any scent from the l’Art & la Matière collection, for an irresistibly elegant fragrant trail.
A unisex fragrance, with powdery notes and an elegant trail that envelops you in its softness. Fresh notes of bergamot and mandarin, mingled with the soft noble powdery notes of iris and lavender.
Then the reassuring elegant trail given by the wood notes of cedar, vetiver and musk.

I would not even bother with this again. Just tried a sample for 3 days on my skin on my clothing and all I can say is: nada, nothing, zilch. Too soft, doesn’t work for me at all. Maybe if you are very shy and do not want to let anyone know you are wearing perfume or if you have some nice fellow very close by and you want to give him a good excuse to nuzzle up to your neck – this may work ! Good luck with it – hope it works better for someone out there.

I had disregarded this for a long time, because I didn’t understand what it was – like others have said here and elsewhere I had the misconception that this was either a linen spray (for wool), a room spray, or both.
That’s a shame because it meant I was missing out on a lovely little treat, and I suspect many others are too.
It was while reading some foreign language review blogs and articles (translated into English) that this first came to my attention. Unfortunately I cannot recall who wrote the piece I was reading, or even where I found it, but what jumped out at me was when they described this as a versatile and misunderstood product. Further reading and research revealed Eau de Cashmere as a sort of multi-purpose fragrance enhancer, as well as being a pleasant room spray, and a fabric scent.
Eau de Cashmere is part of the Guerlain “Les Eaux de Rituel” collection which comprises Cashmere, Lingerie and Lit. Eau de Cashmere is described by Guerlain on their French language site as:
“A new ritual created to enhance your olfactory imprint; worn with a fragrance from L’Art et la Matiere collection it twists your fragrance to give it a soft woody facet, enveloping and pampering. A perfumer secret reserved for insiders which will give your wake a unique signature.”
Are you becoming more interested now?! I certainly was. Far from being “just a room spray”, this now held the promise of layering with and modifying the exclusive Art & Matiere fragrances and creating something new, different, and original. My interest piqued, I decided I should hunt down a bottle and try this out for myself. As an act of self sacrifice of course; I would get hold of some as a purely altruistic gesture, in order to experiment and report back. *wink wink*
    So, firstly the scent itself.
When applied to skin as you would any other perfume EdC opens quite fresh, pretty and floral – Iris, Heliotrope and Lavender being prominent, along with a flash of bergamot. Very shortly the iris and heliotrope move from centre stage and the Pink Pepper and White Musk come out to play, along with just a hint of Cedar. The iris remains more as an aside, it adds a slight powdery quality but the musk remains by far the most prominent note. This is muskier than other Guerlain scents I can think of, although it is a clean and relatively gentle musk with a hint of floral sweetness. As a perfume alone on skin it does actually last quite a long time – several hours – though it does so quietly with little projection.
When applied to clothing this lasts much longer and is a much more intense experience. The notes follow the same pattern, opening floral, moving to a musky wood and finally in the late dry down a woody musk. The cedar and pink pepper stand out to me beneath the musk with the florals adding a feminine slightly powdery aspect. Applied to fabrics this lasts and lasts, I scented some cotton scarves with it and 2 weeks later the smell is present and clear. As a fabric spray it works very well.
Similarly this performs well as a room spray. I find the floral notes remain much more prominent when sprayed into the air. It is a less strong room spray than the Meteorites room spray I own, but is very pleasant and creates a nice atmosphere.
It is when worn as intended though, as a modifier to other Guerlain scents, that Eau de Cashmere really comes into it’s own. I was excited to try this layered with other scents although my expectations were not too high, and while I liked the fragrance it wasn’t driving me wild.
Then I tried it with a few other perfumes. And Oh My this was good!
It is difficult to convey the precise way this alters and adapts other scents, but it feels something like throwing a fine soft silk in gentle dusky mauve-pink across whatever else you are wearing.
When layered, you don’t smell Cashmere in itself, rather you smell it in how it changes the scent with which it combines. Cashmere brings out a softness, and most of all a smoothness in other perfumes, it plays up some facets of the sister scent while down playing others, creating an intriguing and surprising fragrance that is at once both comfortingly familiar and startlingly new. For example with L’Heure Bleue EDT, Cashmere produces a remarkably smooth silky texture with enhanced iris and violet and a vibrant purple-blue aura whereas with L’Heure Bleue extrait it adds a drop of diamond and crystal clarity.
I have tried only a few combinations so far, but each time I find myself smiling with delight as something I know so well changes into a whole new fragrance which maintains all the skeleton of the original yet becomes new and beguiling. Please do not feel limited to wearing this with the Art & Matiere collection alone, as so far this wears well with every Guerlain I have tried. I will be interested to see if the magic is recreated when worn with perfumes from other Houses.
I totally recommend this little known fragrance to any fan of Guerlain, for it is truly remarkable the effect it has on other scents from the house. Not only does it bring tangible modifications and intrigue to your much loved collection, it appears to enhance longevity and sillage too. This underrated gem is reasonably priced at 78 Euro/125ml (approx £60 or $85 at today’s rates).
Seriously, now you are in on the secret you should try this out yourself!
TL:DR version – amazing fragrance made for layering, works beautifully with all Guerlain scents tried to date, enhanced scent, longevity and sillage, reasonably priced, try it.

This really should be worn on fabric which is why it does not last on skin. I sprayed it on wool- lovely but it was at its best on sheepskin. I sprayed it liberally and it lasted over a week. A lovely delicate powdery clean musk but not at all soapy. Elegant and feminine. I have now sprayed it on all my coats but it best fits toscana sheepskin it complements the thick soft pile of the fur. Please don’t waste it on your skin

To my understanding, this fragrance is made mainly for spraying on clothes although it is fine to apply on skin as well. It lasted for days on my wool jacket, cashmere sweater and cashmere scarf with subtle and beautiful powdery, musky and woody notes that complemented the fragrances that I wore then. It added a very cozy and comforting touch to my clothing and gave the fragrances that I wore then a special something to create a different feel comparing to when I wore them alone.

    SHORT LIVED ELEGANCE
    _______________________________________________________
I was really curious about ‘Eau de Cashmere’.
I always wondered how and/or if parfume houses could or did really create something that would resemble cashmere?
And lo and behold, they did. I don’t know about others, but Guerlain really succeded.
It feels on your skin like the most elegant and expensive cashmere sweater. It really captures the feeling of cashmere into a scent – bravo Guerlain!
Unfortunately, that wonderful feeling disapperas within minutes.
    Overall:
    Opinion: It’s a good fragrance – 7/10.
    Longetivity: bad – 1/10
    Sillage: bad – 1/10
All in all: 2 out of 10 points.
