    Soapy and salty.
Blind bought this scent, and from the name I expected a deep woody base with salty overtones. They got the salty part so-so right from the ambergris (not salty like Sel Marin, but ok) but the woody part is missing and instead you get a sort of sour soapy base that doesn’t fit anywhere. It’s also slightly floral, like some notes of violet has been added to mix with the rather heavy dose of synthetic oakmoss. Someone in a review below mentioned dead sea creatures, I kinda get the resemblance.
Not for me, but if you enjoy this sort of stuff go ahead and give it a try.

I love this scent the best way to describe it is to blow out a match and smell the burning smoky embers afterwards a smell I love, it’s got a slight creamy sweet note to it on top of the dominant wood smell. Possibly not as romantic a description as walking along a driftwood strewen beach. But it is acurate. It’s yet another corcker from the boys and girls at Arran Aromatics.

I love it!! It smells just like the beach – on a lovely warm, balmy summer’s day, with a soft breeze blowing, and the beautiful salty, woody natural herbaceous smells waft all around you, and the beautiful sound of the sea moving and rolling onto the shore, and it’s just you, breathing in deeply, and relishing this gorgeous creation – and you’ve got it all to yourself!!
It’s a gorgeous, long-lasting, compliment bringing creation, and I adore it. And the bottle and colouring are also gorgeous. It’s a gorgeous delight of a perfume!!!

Beautiful, real honest-to-God beach!!!! Lovely lovely sea/beach smell I love it. And I mean the beach without all the sunbathers, with all their smelly stuff on, etc…. Just the natural beach with all the dead and alive parts of it. Sea, salt, sand, driftwood, trees, dead bits of sea creatures; sublime!!! It’s beautiful!

I really love this but I can see that some females might considerate it too masculine. AA have managed to bottle the smell of the seashore with a big dose of ambergris. Its fresh, dry, salty, woody and yet warm care of the labdanum and myrrh. For an edt it has good sillage and longevity. This will be perfect for warm days and casual wear.

As a proud Scot, I like to support local (Scottish) businesses, and Arran definitely deserves that support. Driftwood for me captures the smell of wood pencil shavings, mixed with a slight sweetness and slight pine/toluene heaviness and possible menthol or eucalyptus in the background. I have never smelt a fragrance so delightfully and wholly woody as this one and it is absolutely one of my favourites. I often receive positive comments when I wear this because it is so different from any other scents on the market….I cannot think of another which captures REAL wood aroma so successfully.

It certainly is an interesting scent. To me, it smells like… stones. Like beach pebbles when you pick one up and lift it to your nose, so I definitely agree with the earthy part. Also like fossils, I have an ammonite with an opening full of crystals in it that smells similar. It’s a dry, mineral scent of things that have lain in the sea,of crushed shells but also of cool rocks and sand. I’m not sorry I blind bought this as I’m a great fan of anything unusual. The price is not an obstacle to a blind buy here either.

this is a delightful perfume and one that deserves to be more widely known. It is also the perfume that made me realise “aha, so THAT is oakmoss” and enabled me to then recognise it in other perfumes.
It feels quite straightforward on the skin, deceptively so, it settles quickly into a comfortable, cool scent that feels like another layer of clothing, it just feels sort of “right” on your skin. The interesting thing I have found, is that I thought this would be perfect for layering to add depth to lighter or more “high pitched” scents, to add ground to sweet scents etc, and what I have actually found is that although when worn alone it feels quite light, when layered with even heavy scents, it just kind of throws itself over them, and this is what comes through. I find that quite fascinating! It feels so quite worn alone, yet always asserts itself and comes out strongest when layering.
I have tried layering it recently with my sample of Jean Patou Chaldee (new version) which is gorgeous but just doesn’t last, I thought my layering would add quiet depth to chaldee but in actual fact chaldee adds a hint of lightness to Driftwood! Its a beautiful yet unnecessary combo!
Driftwood is totally unisex, it lingers slightly on the masculine side at first then settles into something that does not require gender. Unobtrusive yet quitely assertive, cool in tone but warm in comfort and invitation, gentle sillage and moderate longevity, this is worth sampling.

This is such a lovely review that I made a blind buy of the Driftwood perfume and I am waiting for the delivery right now. Very, very curious, kxnaiades. I hope the perfume evokes all the things you’re describing ;0) Can’t wait!

Imagine racing down the Irish coastline under the perennial grey skies with rays of sun breaking through the clouds, the “angel rays’ described in Evelyn. Cold, refreshing salty air whips your hair in disarray but you couldn’t care less about your appearance as you are full of joie de vivre. You arrive at one of the many quiet spots of pebbled grey beach and toss your well-worn but much loved tartan quilt around yourself while waiting for the blaze to set into the driftwood that your lover has heaped together. Now bottle that experience and all the smells from above (minus the car oil and exhaust). Salty with marine qualities, cold but not forboding, tranquil as a zen garden without greens in it. I’ve taken to spraying this on my pillow instead of lavender and falling to sleep with a smile on my face, knowing that soon I’ll drift back into my dreams of wild, untamed Irish coastlines I once knew so well.
