Description

It all starts with a hand on the nape of a neck. The hand of a man familiar with the practice of attracting young women, accustomed to crumpling their sleek hair and to getting the better of their well-behaved manners. This is the story of a man in a car at night, of a manly hand that draws a perfectly fresh face towards him – expressed at the start by a bouquet of white flowers: lily of the valley, jasmine and orange blossom–, and who anticipates the chocolaty taste and tenderness of a mouth. It is also the story of a woman who at first resists and finally goes down on him. The art of the “American kiss” unfurls on accords of ambre solaire, almond, sugar cane and marsh mallow. The man will discover everything there is to know about her: the warm roughness of her tongue, the rousing sensation of her back and forth. All there is to know and no more than that! The appetizer ends in a whisper: “Don’t get me wrong baby, I don’t swallow”.

Composition: Jasmine, lily of the valley, orange blossom, amber, patchouli, cacao, musk, marshmallow…

Nose for this fragrance is Antoine Maisondieu. Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby was launched in 2007.

This fragrance is a nice clean muguet, despite the daft name. I’ve given my sample to my friend K, who misses her Diorissimo, is 70-odd and a committed Christian. I don’t see the point in the sort of tacky marketing ploys that ELDO comes up with – K would be totally put off if she knew the name and those who like the name might find the fragrance a bit vapid. Squeaky clean, very pretty, good staying power.

Love this! What a beautiful lily of the valley scent! I didn’t think I would like it THAT much (to be honest).
I remember the day I bought it.
I went to one of my fav perfumeries to try some of the ELdO perfumes I hadn’t known yet. “Don’t get me wrong Baby” was one of the perfumes I just wanted to try “for the sake of completeness” as I’m not a huge fan of too floral perfumes and based on the notes I thought… oh well, will be nice, but not stunning.
However…. when I got to test it, it immediately made me smile! It’s a lovely and sweet LOTV scent, very pretty! It’s not a naughty or mysterious scent – it’s as innocent as the name 🙂
I didn’t even wait for the drydown, I bought it directly – how can I ignore a perfume that made me smile every time I sniffed it? 🙂
I find it perfect for spring.
PS: Comparing it with Diorissimo, I find it softer and sweeter (probably due to the cocoa/marshmallow notes), it is not a dupe! To me, the LOTV note is less dominating here than in Diorissimo. So… don’t get me wrong 🙂 I consider Diorissimo a masterpiece! But I also think “Don’t get me wrong Baby” deserves to be seen as a separate great fragrance.

This is more of a straight up soft lily of the valley, very plush & faint. She’s clean and pure; I highly doubt you can even get past the second base before she runs away and disappears lol

of course she doesn’t swallow , she is too demure almost virginal a really nice white floral , i could even wear it to a wedding . nice

The name…. Well as we are approaching Valentine’ s Day and ahead of the 50 Shades of Grey haha:) movie premiere I expected something provocative, magnetic, erotic!
Don’ t get me wrong is none of these.
    It epitomises innocence.
A breath of fresh air, the most beautiful lily of the valley I ever found in a bottle and jasmin together with orange blossom. That’ s it! Fresh, clean flowers. We get a little sweetness due to the presence of marshmallow.
I guess fans of Diorissimo or Pleasures will enjoy the scent

Very light, slightly floral and fresh scent, a little powdery and wet smelling. This reminds me of baby wipes as did Putain des Palaces. Very close to the skin and unremarkable. Such a shame, the title is groovy.

Again, another example of misleading title for it does NOT do what is on the bottle.
A sweeter and softer version of DIORISSIMO.
Why bother? Stick to the original!
    1/10.

Very clean LOTV with a musky/ powdery base. Reminds me of a Yardley talcum powder I had as a young girl. Not a new scent, but certainly one of the nicer versions I’ve smelled. Shares similarities with a few other frags-all of which I already own and possess more unique attributes. I could just layer them to get the same effect. I still would recommend this for anyone looking to replicate the smell of a talc in perfume form. Wonderful fragrance!

Don’t get me wrong Baby is a rather pretty lily of the valley scent.
The opening is beautiful, intensly green muguet, infused with jasmine and guimauve sweetness. The guimauves keep the lily of the valley company throughout the entire fragrance, adding a fluffy texture.
After the rushing green floral opening, the scent stays fairly linear. It’s beautiful, really, truely beautiful, but I wish something more was going on.
Anyway, this perfume made me realise I LOVE lily of the valley!

“Don’t get me wrong baby, I don’t swallow” by Etat Libre d`Orange is a lily-of-the-valley composition with a supposedly provocative name. The only thing I find terrifying about the name is the punctuation; someone is very picky about the infants they plan on eating.
I decided to test the baby eater against the gold standard of LotV fragrances—Diorissimo—and it was immediately apparent that the fight was over with before it even started. Diorissimo already has the innocent greenness associated with springtime along with a subtle, yet suggestive animalic presence. Compared to Diorissimo, the baby eater was a compressed mess and I was starting to feel a little sorry for this vacuous member of the ELdO family. It was a mistake to leave out the semen note.

Why did they choose such a name for this screechy-clean floral is beyond my comprehension (or may be they did it on purpose to confuse us?) Anyway, all I get is lily-of-the-valley, everything else is mingling somewhere in the background and is not really worth noting separately.
Ok, fine, there is also sweet orange blossom that appears later, but lily-of-the-alley remains dominant throughout. This is only my purely subjective opinion, but I find lily-of-the-valley to be one of the most boring and unexciting notes (well, except for the Chanel No22-that one is genius). This one is actually pleasant and very wearable for sure. But I cannot rate it higher than simply “nice”.

Etat Libre d’Orange really pulled out all the stops on their text and naming of Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby I Don’t Swallow. It seems a bit like a case of overcompensation. The perfume itself strikes me as an innocent lily of the valley soliflore. It’s pretty good as far as this sort of composition goes–better than some (Lalique Fleur de Cristal); not as good as others (Van Cleef & Arpels Muguet Blanc or the original, unparallelled Dior Diorissimo).
I have to admit that I would never, ever buy a perfume with this name, and I find the accompanying aspiring-to-pornography text puerile, at best. Anyway, I’m covered on the lily of the valley front with the Van Cleef & Arpels Collection Extraordinaire entry. I suppose that this launch was intended as the female counterpart to Sécrétions Magnifiques. The only thing missing is a picture of a vagina on the box.

As I’m a man, I won’t buy it (I have the sample from the discovery box) but… Waw.
This is surprising from ELdO to make this sort of fragrance. Almost all of them are guilty pleasures, provocative, disturbing (in a good way, imo, I love that brand !) but not this one.
Is it a bad thing ? No ! This is the cleanest, purest, safer fragrance of the brand, for sure ! So this is it, the fragrance of innocence ? It seems !
Lovely, adorable, sweet (in both ways, tender and sugar)… Tender because of Lily (of the valley) and Jasmine, which are 2 nice girls. And they invite you to their lovely house ! A lovely house full of candies, that sugar note I was talking about, marshmallow.
So here it is, this is a quiet, silent fragrance from ELdO. Not original ? Damn no, this is original ! Hu, for what ? For the thing that’s the first time, for a long time to me, I smell a fragrance without any ounce of aggression or fury.
What I mean about that is the first fragrance for me, I can’t smell ANY woody-oriental note ! The musk and the amber aren’t here, I think their purpose is just to maintain other notes, and that’s all.
So, flowers and sugar, and nothing else ! It results a fresh, innocent, pure fragrance. So, is this the scent of angels ? It may well be.

Very, very, very skinclose. On my skin I can smell Musk, Lily-of-the-valley, Amber and Aldehydes. 20 cm from my skin it smells nothing, 10 cm from my skin it smells nothing. 1 cm from skin i can smell a weak perfum. Nice but weak. Not worth the money in my opinion.
Trevlig men svag. Inte värd pengarna i mitt tycke.

The opening smells reminiscent of Calvin Klein’s Truth, minus the bamboo. Lovely, doesn’t seem to last very long. Sweet, white flowers, definitely can detect the marshmallow note.

I love the names and stories behind Etat Libre scents but this doesn’t quite match the name although it is a lovely scent, of pure white flowers with light green notes that don’t come across sharp and screechy like some green based perfumes do. I didn’t get the marshmallow or the aldehydes(which is good because too much aldehydes kills my brain). But there is a noticeable air of musk and amber and a whift of cacao. An innocent scent with close projection and light-medium longevity. Good for bedtime and quiet time and unobtrusive for office wear, but not something I would wear for le seduction. I don’t picture this as being worn by a coquette, and definitely not by a sweet young girl who won’t even think of being in a situation that she has to pull up such a line! I picture someone carefree, young at heart at whatever age in cut-offs and barefoot, ambling down a sunny lane or along the water’s edge on a beach somewhere.
It would be safe as a blind buy or a gift for those who like simple, soft and sweet white florals.

Very strong lily-of-the-valley at the opening, maybe some other white flowers, too. These lead to a lovely jasmine and orange blossom scent. Sadly, does not seem to last on me.

  18. :

The fragrance is nothing like the ‘story’ behind the name, rather it’s a sweet mixture of zest and flowers. This scent is highly reminiscent of Very Hollywood by Michael Kors.

I find this a beautiful fragrance, and, despite being lower key, and more unobtrusive than some of its sister scents, this is by far my favorite perfume from ELDO.
It opens with a lovely blast of sweet white flowers. There is a sugared tartness to the opening which reminds me of candied lemon.
The floral notes run through the heart of this scent, but the drydown is less tangy and sweeter, the marshmallow and cacao helping to make it almost gourmand on me.
Don’t Get Me Wrong is a fun, flirty girly scent. It’s not as mature in character as some of the other scents from this house, but that’s one of the things I love about it. It appeals to the girlish part of my nature, rather than the womanly part.
Really great lasting power, and wonderful sillage, this perfume is really worth a try for any floral lover.
ELDO scents seem to be exceptionally subjective when it comes to skin chemistry, however, so try before buying.
The name is rather fitting for the scent, I think. An innocent(ish) name for an innocent(ish) fragrance. 8/10

This is the second ELDO that doesn’t live up to the ‘shock value’ of the name. The first was Sex Pistols which, although a good perfume, was mainstream and conservative it its execution. it did not leave me with a desire to set fire to anything or rebel against society
Likewise, Dont Get Me Wrong Baby….. is an attention grabbing name. Sadly, it lost my attention soon after that. This is a pretty, inoffensive Lily Of the Valley scent that couldn’t be more prim or more proper. This girl won’t get jiggy with anyone in a car. No sir!
Well, I guess we all know there is no truth in advertising.
(thanks Scorpiosheep for the sample x)

A fragrance that perfectly fits its name. You don’t have to get her wrong, she’s a good girl…
A clean floral fragrance (mainly lily of the valley and jasmine) of little (very little) interest.
As an old motto used to say: Good girls go to heaven, Bad girls go anywhere…
    Rating: 5.5/10

Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby is a very very good girl. Too good for my liking. Given the name, I expected some naughtiness. But there is none. I doubt if this girl even performs the job that eventuates in swallowing.
It is a clean and neat floral which begins with a fresh blast of Jasmine, orange blossom and a pleasant Lily of the Valley note. It remains a strong floral for a long time. I was impatiently waiting for something else to come through. Finally, I could get a whiff of something soft and sweet. Fluffy, light and sweet marshmallow note comes through but somehow lost in the overtness of floral top notes.
Looking beyond the shock value of the name and its relevance, it is well made floral, very wearable. It has a nice refined feel about it. Not really the kind of perfumes that I’d prefer but a soft light floral is a nice addition to my collection. I want to try Putain des Palaces, aka Hotel Slut which seems to have (ironically) more character.

I kind of like this one… I could detect some naughtiness about it 😉
Only problem is that it did not last much on my skin.

Mellyhelly is right: this fragrance is very easy to wear compared to other ELdO’s creations. I get a very strong lily-of-the-valley -vibe.
    Luckyscent states the following:
“Don’t Get Me Wrong Baby I Don’t Swallow is prim, proper and well-behaved. The Good Girl vibe of the scent is shocking given the suggestive name, and therein lies the genius of the fragrance. But is the girl really all that innocent? Under the angelic whiteness of cool florals, isn’t there hidden a dark, edible, subtly animalic depth of patchouli, amber, cacao and marshmallows?”
Is that really so? This girl is very proper and angelic all the way through; she didn’t dare to be flirty or animalic at all – not with me, anyway. I prefer my girls more naughty…

Nice scent and I mean nice, nothing more. It’s a highly wearable perfume compared to its “collegues” from Etat Libre. I don’t really like those strange smells so well marketed and so useless.
It smells mostly of jasmine in an innocent sweet way. It also has nuances of oriental notes. It’s feminine and elegant. It gives a sense of cosyness. Innocence is obvious but there are undertones of sensuality. Nice.

This is an easy wearable clean floral for etat libre d’orange , but one i’m afraid it doesn’t have the interest or success of some of their best. Is a loss of time for a great talent like Antoine Maisondieu and the formula of jasmine, candied rose and a dollop of cacao in a powdery ambrgris base doesn’t quite deliver on a promising set up but i suppose from a point of view is still fun!
