Description

Dolly Girl is miraculous creation of Anna Sui, in floral fruit composition. It is romantic and modeled with the dose of fantasy and memories of the creator, while she was still young, playing with mother’s perfumes and trying her clothes on.
The designer of the perfume is Benoit Lapouza. Playful and eccentric, this perfume offers juicy fruit cocktail in its top notes made of bergamot, melon, apple, cinnamon, the notes of elaborated floral garden together with accords of magnolia, rose, lily-of-the-valley and jasmine. Dolly Girl was launched in 2003. The nose behind this fragrance is Benoist Lapouza.

Because of its name and packaging, I expected Dolly Girl to be sweeter and fruitier than it actually turned out to be on my skin. I find the first spray somewhat bitter and reminiscent of the juice from tart fruits. It develops into a soft citrus, nothing too zingy. I don’t get much florals and it settles into a woody musk on me. Overall a pleasant fragrance for a regular summer day, but a bit nondescript for me and on the forgettable side.

A sweet parfum for young girl or young woman who like smell of sweet things. I smell a delicious fruit with strawberry melon raspberry and apple. There’s pretty powdery flowers of rose and a magnolia with violet. This is very feminine and good for spring and summer. Fresh and delicate, good like a hairspray so I like to spray on my hair sometimes. When the parfum is dry I smell amber and a lil musk. Delicious and very sweet perfume with an adorable bottle.

i finished my bottle today, it didn’t take long as there is no real staying power to this perfume and it’s also very light. the scent itself reminds me of pink lemonade in the softest way, not tart, just sweet and somewhat airy. most don’t care for the bottle but i find it amusing and it will go in my collection of pretty and unusual bottles.

    My second most loved perfume.
    Floral.Fruity.Fresh.
    Lasts all day on me.

I used Dolly Girl as a teen. Wouldn’t use it anymore today. It’s not as childish as the bottle makes it seem though, it’s a fresh fruity-floral, not an extremely sweet one. Only slightly sweet. I wouldn’t feel too old to wear it today (at almost 30) in spring or summer, I just think it’s kind of boring now and would not buy it again. Even back then I remember that I mostly bought it cause it was on sale and nice enough, not because I totally loved it.
It’s hard for me to make out the most dominant notes as I only have an empty bottle and my memory… But I think the bergamot, apple, violet, something woody and a very faint hint of cinnamon were what I got from the notes. The sweet melon and strawberry not so much. I loved Escada summer fragrances in my youth and Dolly Girl wasn’t nearly as fruity 😀

    fresh, sweet, youthful, crowd pleaser.
    too light, no longevity

Very cute and whimsical bottle and fragrance for young girl or lady. My mom and I both shared this scent because it worked with both of our chemistries.
Typically not notes that would attract me but this works!

UPDATE:Can be worn by all ages if lightly applied. I also layer with Gucci Flora to give it a more mature edge. This has musk so avoid humid weather. Pretty and fun, so I use it more for casual than conservative or formal. Enjoy
A very pretty scent that is mistaken as being girly or youthful. I think the design of Anna Sui’s bottles give the impression that her fragrances are only for a certain demo. But this has some amazing base notes in the dry down that are more musky/woody and complicated. I get a retro vibe from Dolly G. with a nod to the base notes of classic fragrances. I came back to this because I applied it to sample cards, placed them in a room and enjoyed the scent. I am continuing to test this. Not quite sure if this is completely casual or can be worn for other occasions. I will update my review later. Due to the musky base, consider this a fragrance for cooler summer rather than humid weather. Enjoy!

Very sweet, fruity, and pretty. A great daytime scent. And I love the humour of the bottle!

Dolly Girl. The bottle is shaped like one of those female head figures that you see in beauty school which they use to help you learn how to apply make up eyeliner eyeshadow, powder, blush, etc. I was hoping to get something that would smell a bit like a beauty salon. This is just a sweet sweet fruity floral, the kind I’m crazy about. I can smell the strawberry. There’s also raspberry. Of the flowers I smell the magnolia, rose and violet. Usually the rose and magnolia would be strong in other perfumes but here it’s subtle and really well balanced. The cinnamon note is popping up throughout the scent giving it a touch of spice. When the fragrance begins to get dry it’s pure amber. When I finish with this fragrance at least I get to keep the doll head. I like to collect the bottles of some fragrances like when I finish with Katy Perry’s Meow at least I get a cute kitty and dont’ get me started on the adorable Harajuku bottles!

Although fruity floral, this fragrance smells very fresh and aquatic to me. I get a lot of saltyness which surprises me a lot.
I thought I was crazy until I looked up the notes on the official anna sui site, and two things that dolly girl has that isn’t written on fragrantica is Sea Breeze Notes & Leafy Green Notes! They are in the top which makes sense because the salty oceany scent is very noticeable at first spray.
I actually think the sea breeze note lasts the whole fragrance although it certainly is stronger in the beginning. This fragrance reminds me of a less fruity and more floral version of rock me summer of love which anna sui also makes. Of course we know dolly girl came out first, but I had rock me summer of love before dolly girl.
I mostly get a fresh melony raspberry with a floral amber accord that is under a veil of salty sea breeze. The most noticeable flowers to me are rose and muguet.
Again, a little confused to see amber voted to the bottom just like I’m surprised nobody seemed to mention the very obvious (IMO) sea breeze salty note.
I think dolly girl is a perfect summer fragrance that is pool side and beach ready. When I go outside when it’s above 80 I don’t wear my gourmands and reach for something fresh and fun. Dolly girl is light and refreshing to apply too which I think is an important quality in a summer fragrance.

I kind of like this but not one of my favourites. I like more soft, powdery, vanilla or musky scents but this is a bit too “sour” and crisp for me. It’s fresh and girly and fruity though.

  14. :

I agree with Sharissa: Smells similar to I love Love de moschino, but better. In a piece of paper, Dolly Girl longs for about a week. The very beggining, is very charm, floral with touchs of citrics and a soft smell of fruits. Cinnamon doesn’t exists to my nose in this edt.

  15. :

I might be biased on this one but on my skin it smells EXACTLY like this customer at my work that comes in almost everyday and, is known by our staff to smell horrible.
Way too sweet and powdery, lasts all day and doesn’t lose it’s strength which I’m not a huge fan of

  16. :

Anna Sui’s has one of the most eye-catching bottles. Unfortunately, this perfume is not that fancy. It’s really so childish, that it’s even too childish for a 12 year old.
Even the celebrity perfumes are above this one.
Weak melon scent mixed with some lightly but annoyingly sweet fruity notes.
A little like some cheap shower gel scent or cheap perfume from the food store.

  17. :

I just recently gave this away to a friend. This is a very light, pleasant, girly (not overly so) fragrance. Great for everyday use especially during the hotter months. I often find citrus to be too sour but this one is not. My friend who I gave it to can’t stand anything too sweet or anything with vanilla but she loves this one.

  18. :

    4 out of 5

This is very similar to Anna Sui’s Secret Wish, as they are both light, fresh fragrances heavy on the citrus.
If anything, Secret Wish is fresher, and Dolly Girl is a bit sweeter.
Kind of non-descript clean summer smell (I don’t get any florals on me) that I can spritz 8 times all over body and hair, and it does not overpower.
I got it for $7.99 at Marshall’s so I carry it around in my purse and re-apply frequently throughout the day.
I don’t see how it could offend anyone, would be great for offices, etc.

I love this scent…and all the soft, girly girl scents. I’ve added this to my want list thanks to the lovely world of fragrantica and was able to score it at TJ Maxx for $10. I’m so happy with my purchase. On me in the beginning I get the vibe of Dior Addict 2…then it turns into a lovely soft fruity/citrusy scent and I love it. No it doesn’t enter the room with you, but it’s a nice up-close and personal scent. So I can easily wear it to work or out and about and if someone were to hug you they’d smell it 🙂

  20. :

I’m really enjoying this light, fresh and fruity fragrance. It slightly reminds me of the opening of Vince Camuto Femme because the citrus and fruit really stand out on me with an underlying of vetiver which is why I like it so much (although VC Femme has an amazing dry down that this can’t compete with). To me, however, this is a younger, lighter and more girly version. It’s perfect for summer and very linear which can be good or bad. Not sure why this isn’t liked more and I’m one of the few that love the fun little bottle. No the staying power is not fantastic but for the $10 I got it for, I will be loving this all summer long!

This is a very soft scent. In my opinion it is more suitable for a child or young teenager. It smells very childish, common, and not overwhelming. I wear it when I don’t care to be noticed, like going to the grocery shop, or for excercise.

  23. :

    3 out of 5

This perfume has become less common recently but you can still buy it online and at department stores with a big perfume selection if you are lucky. However I am amazed that the citrus notes listed are at the bottom. It should be first or at least second. Although its not pungent all I could smell is soft citrus! I kind of see why it would remind some of bathroom cleaning products. One downside for sure is that it has a very poor lasting power.

Beautiful and sweet, yet subtley refreshing and crisp. Used this a few years ago when I was finishing high school and I miss this smell! I am definitely going to buy another bottle in the ~hopefully near~ future.

I like this smell, so fresh and sweet. But I don’t like the bottle. Make me scary at night,so I think to change the bottle for me, or keep in the cupboard.

I am a HUGE fan of Dolly Girl! To me there isn’t anything as spectacularly unique & special like dolly girl. I love wearing this, it’s as close to a signature scent I would attach to myself personally , the bottle is beautiful & totally Anna Sui which I’m also a sucker for her creative artistic edge. Will be buying this for as long as its available! Smells like a concoction of aged white roses with a timeless touch of vintage mixed with a sweet fruity whisper that spells out ” Dolly Girl” I wear this with long lush lashes cuz it really evokes the inner girly girl in me:) PERFECTION

When I spray this, its very delicate and feminine with just a hint of a sharp spice. On my skin it makes me feel like I rolled around in rainbows. Lasting power is incredible, the smell lingers in my room for days. I wish Anna Sui would bring back some of the Dolly Girls.

  28. :

    4 out of 5

I bought Dolly Girl today and I like it. I tried 4-5 Anna Sui perfumes before and I realize they are very light and not overpowering perfumes. Since they are light there is no way you will hate them. I really liked Secret Wish and I finished my bottle in 2 months even though I wore other ones in my collection also. I want to own more Anna Sui perfumes because they are always good when you want to smell very fresh.

  29. :

Just love this. Scent is not overpowering yet calm enough to enjoy. Just love love love it.

  31. :

    3 out of 5

On initial spray, Dolly Girl reminds me of a mix of Light Blue and Nina Ricci’s first pink apple fragrance.
Dolly Girl starts out as a green (apple and bergamot), cool and fresh fragrance with a delicate sweet note which is probably due to the honeydew melon note.
I do not detect any cinnamon, though.
On my skin Dolly Girl seems to skip the heart notes completely and the fresh opening quickly dries down to a mix of woody notes and a hint of musk.
Less than two hours later the fragrance has completely disappeared from my skin.
I think Dolly Girl is a great refreshing fragrance but due to its low sillage and short longevity one has to spray a lot.
Enjoy Dolly Girl if you love it, but I would not recommend this perfume for blind-buying – similar fragrances with much better projection and longevity can be found for less money.

Maybe I need to test this again but I am not sure why not many people think this smells the same as the secret wish with the little fairy on the lid. I have the pink secret wish which smells a little like D&G Light Blue or Eclat Arpege. When I sprayed this Dolly Girl on a card all I could smell was the same thing as what I already have. It is a shame because I really wanted to get it just for something light, boring and pretty but it just doesn’t have a different smell from the other in the dolly girl line. I will test it again and see what happens might have been my nose?

  40. :

    3 out of 5

So far I didn’t like any Sui scent. This one I found like many reviewers too sweet and cheap. The bottles of the dolly line are ugly too IMO.

  41. :

    5 out of 5

Though the short note of raspberry is nice, this just isn’t in the league with grown up fragrances. No lasting power and no silage. For young girls it’s ok.
If you want raspberry at a fair price, choose Can Can instead. Yes, I know what you’re going to say, “Paris Hilton”? but, it actually is a very nice raspberry fragrance with more lasting power. This also will stick on your skin for days. Even after showering and scrubbing several times, it’s got that nasty base accord that just won’t go away.

  42. :

    5 out of 5

I’m a firmly established fan of all things ANNA SUI…. But most of her fragrances just don’t float my boat. Upon application, I was overwhelmed by a puke inducing froth of faux-sweet-bitterness that seemed destined for use only to cover a very bad stink; by replacing it with another equally bad stink.
When this fragrance was introduced many years ago, I literally immersed my arms and neck in the stuff like a woman possessed. Needless to say, I got quite a shock. All I was put in mind of was strong disinfectant, like I’d entered into a freshly cleaned public toilets.
Perhaps there is a specific cleaning product here in the UK that smells extremely similar to this. Maybe I was at fault for spraying far too much of this onto myself. It was unbearably strong. I rushed to the nearest toilet (best place for this stuff) and attempted to wash it off, to no avail, as even after numerous attempts at washing it away; It was still projecting.
Not for me. My skin chemistry and this fragrance simply do not mix.
The notes aren’t to my taste either, and this might be an unfair review due to my instant association with a cleaning product, I.E no middle or drydown for me to speak of because I washed it away as quickly as possible.
Do try, but don’t blind buy. It’s pretty damn potent.

As much as I adore the unusual and kitschy bottles of Anna Sui more less I can´t stand the scents. Not only one Anna Sui fragrance swept me off my socks. They smell forgettable, ordinary and quite boring. This one smells like old flowers. Not yummy at all. Enchanting bottles are not enough – the stuff inside should be better and that doesn´t fit with Anna Sui fragrances. Sad but true.

  45. :

    5 out of 5

Ordinary dull sweet fruity floral in an ugly kitsch bottle that reminds me of a wig stand. No thanks.

  46. :

    5 out of 5

Simple, uncomplicated, unsophisticated. There is nothing wrong with this perfume but there’s not all that much to it. Nice juicy melon, pleasant pink berries and some soft white florals. There’s no snap or tartness to the apple or spices so never really goes past where it starts.
I think an adult woman can certainly wear this if she likes it but I’d make sure it’s in a casual setting (coffee date, shopping, lunch) or you’ll risk a mutton-dressed-as-lamb aura. I also think this is so innocent that there’s almost no little girl too young for it.
There are several better cheerful berry scents at the same or better price points (Nina Ricci Love, Royal Rouge). Body Shop and Bed/Bath/Beyond also have many reasonable decent quality red scents.
I do love the joke of the doll who is clearly Barbie being bald. Verdict: okay but not worth any effort.
    Sillage: 2-3 feet
    Durability: only a few hours
    Fabulosity: pink crocs
    Price to value: mediocre
    4/10

1st, let me agree whole-heartedly with guest sunshine.
there should be a law, no age on scent. 🙂
that being said, i love the bottle that this grapefruit juice is in! yes, i smell grapefruit, and white. what is white? i don’t know how to explain it, but it is what i smell. white. this is so refreshing and light. i wore this to work last night and everyone liked it and no one had heard of it. now everyone wants it. it didn’t last nearly as long as i would of liked, but i still love this fresh fragrance.
and another beautiful bottle to add to my growing collection.

  48. :

I love this fragrance! I discovered it and wore it as a signature scent for a long time. I recently tried Dior Addict 2 and find that these scents are similar! Must be the bergamot, melon and grapefruit:) I do think Dior Addict 2 lasts longer, but I havent tried Dolly Girl in a while. Love the bottle!!

I love to wear it when it’s spring, makes me feel girly.
Some didn’t like the bottle? I really like it though, it’s very much Anna Sui!

this the best anna sui fragrance than the other..
    smell soo young, like me..
i’m 15th years old so, it’s very perfect for me..
smell like strawberry, sweet, fresh, youthfull hmmm…
    soo delicious..

I like this–it’s girly, playful, and young. I would give this to a teenager w/o hesitation, but I don’t feel like I’m too old to wear this. It’s quite a clean scent and very light, and not sugary sweet. I get more fruit than floral, mostly melon and raspberry. This is great for the summer when you’re outside in the sun and need to smell something refreshing.

  52. :

    3 out of 5

Dolly Girl is a lovely, girlie scent that almost made me feel like skipping. However, the scent dissipates almost instantly, which is a deal breaker for me. Such a shame, because the bottle is truly darling.

  53. :

    4 out of 5

This was one of my first fragrances when I was 13 years old..I loved the sweet, fruit salad scent of the perfume, I could especially detect the top notes of apple and melon…
Very fresh, fruity with a hint of zing to it while managing to stay bearably soft and innocent, I would describe Dolly Girl as a very young perfume.
I enjoyed this fragrance when I first had it but wouldn’t want to wear it now, it just feels very basic, a very simple mix of sweet and sour fruits..good as a first perfume for young girls 🙂

  54. :

    4 out of 5

I had this perfume in my early 20s. it’s a very young scent and i wouldn’t wear it now. it’s youthful, playful and sweet. not for the unique frangrance lover.

  55. :

    3 out of 5

Despite its long list of tiered notes and its wild presentation, Anna Sui DOLLY GIRL is yet another nondescript, quasi-linear, safe, soapy, fruity floral office scent. Shower in a bottle, I’d say. Likeable, pleasant, wearable, but entirely unextraordinary in every single way.
The soap here is closer to Dove than white Dial, if that helps! (My own preference is Dial…) The staying power is decent–you could put this on in the morning and smell freshly showered for several hours.

  57. :

    3 out of 5

I had this bought for me a few years back and I really liked it then, but I have to be in the mood for it now – its quite a youthful fragrance. However, its plesant, fresh and sweet if thats what you like.

  58. :

    5 out of 5

This is geared towards teenagers more so than adults. Used it a few years back and thought the bottle was cute. It’s not so cute now. Buy it for the 16 year old girl. The bergamot in this is lovely.

  59. :

    4 out of 5

I have never tried this fragrance simply because I know that even if it would be the best frag ever I couldn’t stay looking at it on my shelf. I’m really sorry, I know that this site is not about bottles, but this and the other dollies are the most bizarr bottles ever(

  60. :

    4 out of 5

I didn’t have high expectations prior to testing this fragrance, and not surprisingly I wasn’t blown away by this scent.
There was nothing unpleasant about it, but then again there was nothing overly wonderful about it either. Looking at all the unique and interesting notes listed, I’m wondering where all those notes were.
I could definitely not smell cinnamon or melon in the top notes, which is a damn shame, because those notes when blended with the apple and bergamot should have created something interesting. However, I was met with a scent that can only be compared to a cheap drugstore fragrance.
What is supposed to be a beautiful heart of florals, turns out to be so faint that you can hardly smell it. In fact, Dolly Girl hardly lasts at all. It’s possibly one of the worst fragrances when it comes to lasting strength.
I didn’t get any of the powderyness that everyone is describing here, instead I got a big jumbled mess of fruits and flowers, making it very difficult to distinguish any particular notes.
Although I find the bottle design creative, up close it looks rather cheap and tacky. Unfortunately there’s nothing about Dolly Girl that I actually like. Even the name is a little ridiculous and childish.
I haven’t tried the other fragrances in the Dolly Girl series, but here’s hoping they are much better than the original.

  61. :

    5 out of 5

Frankly speaking, i don’t like the bottle at all and the scent is too sweety and cheap, maybe for teens but absolutely not for me. But as it was my new year’s present, I use it every now and then anyway.

  62. :

    4 out of 5

how can someone design such an awful bottle without embarrassment? A bald head with a silver hat? Bah!

  63. :

    5 out of 5

this bottle is really morbid, but the smell is ok, light and tender, but not longlasting at all

  64. :

    4 out of 5

Awww, I love the sweet little dolly-head bottle! 🙂 I can see how some might find it too kitschy, though.
Dolly Girl’s fragrance is nice but nothing special. The bergamot note stands out very strongly on my skin, and I would describe the scent as “linear” rather than layered and evolving. The scent stays identical from start to finish. Whether that’s a good or bad quality is defined by the wearer.
Others have described it as a non-sweet fruity or bitter-sweet, and I agree with that description.
The one area in which I think Dolly Girl really excels is persistence. I put some on at 8:00 AM and I can still smell it nine hours later. That’s pretty good persistance for any perfume, but especially good for a fruity floral with citrus top notes!

  65. :

    5 out of 5

Leukothea: me too, the bottle puts me away. It is scary, untasteful, morbid and if none of those things, then it is highly cheaply looking.

  66. :

    4 out of 5

I find this scent very zesty, it’s really fruity and citrusy without smelling ‘edible’.
I find it not very long lasting but it’s top notes are very obvious when first sprayed. I like it for it’s bitter-sweet quality but wish it would do something woody or creamy after being worn a while.
I don’t like any of the Dolly girl bottles, they contribute to the idea of the fragrance being for children. Sweet treats are so much more inticing when they appear to be only for adults (hehe).

  67. :

    4 out of 5

Beautiful scent! It’s not one of those complex Chanel scents.. it’s rather fruity without the sweet and floral without the matureness! I’m usually really sensitive to complex scents.. and this one does not make my head spin at all! It just makes me so happy when i wear this! The lasting power is a little better than average actually bc it’s not that strong. Great Great Great! Slightly like D & G but with more girly-ness! I would think that it’s mostly for ppl in their 20’s and you can definitely wear this everyday!

  68. :
