Decided to test Grand Bal again after a year
Last year I believed that Grand Bal is Esteelauder Modern Muse’s twin sister.I can still find similarities between them,as they both have dominant crisp flowers and classy musk but I don’t think they’re dupes anymore. Now I like Grand Bal ten times more than Modern Muse, actually I feel I’m in love with Grand Bal and I’m so sad to see they have reformulated it.it’s unisex in the new version and has only two notes.probably I can never have a bottle of this lovely 2012 version and it’s a shame as I think it’s one of the most easy to wear yet elegant florals I’ve ever tried
Granballo isn’t as musky as modern muse.there’s jasmine, orange flower and ylangylang in it’s pyramid but what I smell the most is honeysuckle which I love
florals aren’t creamy, waxy or buttery here, they’re not heavy or indolic.they’re not green either..florals are luminous and so crisp and cool in Grand Bal,clean without being soapy.very elegant but also easy to wear
I wish the new version to be as beautiful as this one

Big waste of money you would be better off at Bath and Bodyworks and this is coming from somebody who has six from the collection

Grand Bal reminds me all too much of AdPArma Gelsomino. No innovative surprise here. A little too sharp IMO. I am not overwhelmed by the drydown wich does not change at all. Another Jasmine as so many others, and certainly not the olfactory romance like AdParma.

Grand Bal is a simple elegant scent.
Jasmine opens with Ylang Ylang in the heart adding richness. Sandalwood supports the base giving us one of the most classic floral configurations. Its updated and modern for the floral genre. Lovely….

    EDITED VERSION
It’s creamy buttery delicious sweet & warm floral. It’s straight to the point, from the opening to dry down. No hype at all. It’s develop very slowly on my skin and I can sense all the notes. Last 7 hours on my skin and wwonderful longevity on my shirt

lately I’ve been comparing whatever white floral-woody-musk I tested with Estee lauder modern muse but dior grand bal is the closest.on my skin it has a lot in common with modern muse.I tested them side by side and couldn’t easily distinguish them.
Since I love Estee lauder modern muse(it’s among my top ten favorite perfumes)there’s no wonder that I love dior grand bal too but I won’t add it to my wantlist,it’s much more expensive and not widely available so I prefer to continue buying and wearing modern muse instead.I’m going to give other tries to grand bal(thanks my lovely niki for this generous decant) and I will edit if I find anything to make grand bal superior and justify buying it
Now lets describe grand bal a bit independently.it’s jasmine smells like sambac jasmine to my nose,I can also pickup a hint of orange blossom and something like honey suckle but not much ylang-ylang.flowers are crisp and gentle and they have a delicate sweetness(a natural floral sweetness, not a vanilla or sugar sweetness).musk is detectable but at the same time is subtle.it has a great balance of sexy musk and clean musk.it’s woody base is also very light and subtle
It’s more a spring and summer day scent which is also suitable for evening wear.it’s charming and elegant and safe if muskyflorals are your thing.it’s a complement getter and is versatile.lasts all day on my skin,it’s noticable without being heavy

This is a lovely, classic yellow floral bordering on an aldehyde similar to vintage Carons. A modern surprise.

This starts off as a beautiful, pure white floral with the ever present bergamot top note. It is an extremely old fashioned smelling perfume, but in all the right ways. It proudly announces it intentions and does not waver. Once the bergamot fades you are left with what is essentially a jasmine and ylang ylang dominated scent. Very, very strong, with remarkable sillage.

When I smelled a double daffodil in the street, that scent completely captured me. And Grand bal is the same smell of that. Fresh, beautiful, very natural.

    I think I’m in love…
I’m generally not a fan of straight-up white florals in the classical manner, but this one took me by surprise.
The name, for once, is completely appropriate: it certainly brings to mind gala events and satin ball-gowns. It exudes both old fashioned glam and modern brightness, deceptive simplicity and textured complexity.
Full marks to François Demachy for redeeming Dior’s “private” collection by doing what he does best: suave, silken compositions with charm to spare.
This feels like the kind of perfume a woman could wear her whole life.
    (crisp floral – 4.5/5)

Very nice perfume. Classic jasmine and white flowers. Good quality. However, it is not really worth the asking price in my opinion, because, A – it’s not original (the person who said “I guarantee you’ve smelt this before” was right), B – sillage isn’t great, C – it doesn’t move me/fails the wow factor. Even for $80 I’d be struggling to justify buying it. Dior, please come up with something better – I know you can!

Gorgeous night blooming blossom of my Jamaica in a bottle. Problem is it lasts all of 30 minutes and then like a ghost, its gone. Cant invest in this one.

Scent – subtle jasmine with tidbits of orange blossom & musk.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the warmer months, day or night.
Projection – I did get noticed, it garners compliments.
    Longevity – I get 24hrs consistently.

I do like this a lot. However, it reminds me of a few perfumes. These are Chanel Gardenia, VC & A California Reverie and also the old school Versace VE. This is nowhere near as soapy as VE, but it has the slight soapiness from the neroli and ylang plus sandalwood. It is a clean, fresh slightly musky floral. Very polite, very girly and feminine. The jasmine in this is wonderful. Not heavy and thick, light, green, perfect. Not full bottle worthy, only because I like a bit of roughness (this is soooo pretty) and this is very pristine and soft. Nice but too nice, if you know what I mean. The 7.5ml mini is the perfect amount for me.

Very comforting buttery jasmina and orange blossom. Not too heady, just elegant, subtle… I am so glad this fragrance restored my faith in flowery fragrances. I’ve been away for too long… Very feminine, clean, subtle. I wear it day and night… Not too overpowering, but sexy and sophisticated in an understated way…

    OH MY WORD!!!!!!!
I’m in Love, Smelt this at the Dior counter, Sprayed it and Im sooooooo in love!! Had to have a bottle.
I don’t know if it could replace my Chanel Gardenia just yet!!!
Edit: I’m still in love.. I cannot get enough of this fragrance, every time I move and get a wiff.. I’m in heaven.. My Chanel Gardenia will just have to get used to being used every once in a while..

This could be accused of being very linear… and quite honestly it is.
Let’s be fair though the quality of this is excellent, I’m not a white floral fan and this is far too feminine for my butch sensibilities (if that’s not a contraction in terms?) but I have to say I love jasmine.
    Jasmine bomb then pretty much?
Grand Bal isn’t quite as sweet as some jasmine notes, could be that hint of ylang and sandalwood but more likely it’s accurately floral and delivers all aspects of the jasmine spectrum, sweet, powdery, waxy even a little dirty?
You know what though? I still like it!
This Dior line doesn’t have to hit the mark with amazing creations each time because enough of them are superb, original compositions to carry a few fillers.
This is for the lady who can afford it, and far from being an expert I’d suspect they’re cheaper options that deliver in this department.
Lasted very well on me and does what it sets out to.

Soft and comforting bouquet of white flowers, with Jasmine being the most notable. A bit generic but to me smell less synthetic than others. A versatile day-to-day scent, but not potent enough for special occasions.

Very fragile, beautiful white flowers but still…a bit boring. A skinscent, very soft sillage, but on my skin, it is long lasting. Would I buy it again? No. Next time I will go for Ambre Nuit or New Look 1947.

This is a very pretty scent. Very feminine and soft. When I first spray this perfume I can smell jasmine, ylang ylang on my skin. There are a tons of jasmine, ylang ylang perfumes similar to this out there but you will hardly find something really like it.

Swear this is Joy by Patou in the opening..big, huge, dirty floral! However it quickly becomes less dirty and sweeter as it develops..probably ideal for lovers of classic florals who like a modern edge to their perfume

Very elegant and long lasting. A classy smell.

What’s happening at Dior? Lack of creativity and greed can lead to half disasters. Grand Bal is yet another white floral as billions of others. Smooth and kinda musky, well blended, nice smelling yet anything but distinctive. Smell it blind and I’m positive you won’t be able to distinguish it from tones of other fragrances in the same vein…
    Redundant.
