A few days ago, received a new, sealed bottle of 2012 (estate sale.) I never tried any version of this before. If you like vanilla, this is a grown-up version. I find it a slightly smoky, slightly spicy vanilla, not too sweet. I would prefer that the floral notes were more noticeable, I don’t smell them at all, but it is a likeable vanilla for someone who isn’t crazy about most vanilla scents.
My current favorites at the moment are Prada La Femme Intense, Givenchy Dahlia Divin Nectar, most of the Elie Saabs, and I still do like Coco Mad, but will replace that with Coco Mad Intense next time. Just thought I’d mention this for reference, seeing what others love helps me make a better informed decision.
I find I get bored with Addict after 4-5 hours, and spray over with something a little more floral. For me, this is a sweater-weather, I-want-to-feel-warm, scent. I don’t find it sexy, in the way that it doesn’t make me feel sexy, cozy would be a better term.
I can’t see me buying it again, but I did want a pre-2014 version while it could still be found.

I’m a bit of a Metallica listening Valentino shoes girl. You’ve piqued my interest now! X

This is my Vegas perfume. Whenever I go to Vegas with my husband or girlfriends, I wear this monster. It is loud and looking for a good time. When I initially put it on, I smell vanilla, spices and trouble. The next morning when I still smell it on me, I smell a sweaty, chain smoking, old woman who had way too much fun the night before. You either love it or hate it. This is not for the shy, introverts who sip champagne. This is for the scotch drinking, Metallica loving girls in Valentino shoes. Wear with caution. One or two sprays lasts all night and longer. I literally smell up the lobby of the Bellagio in a good way.
Ruzz1976 – :
They are definitely my favorite perfume. It’s hard to describe the smell – because it is so unique that there are no perfumes that smell similar. It is quite heavy, rather for the evening than everyday use. It attracts attention, it is strong, strong for confident women. Very durable, all day long. In addition, it has a beautiful bottle, dark and mysterious.

I was lucky enough to find this beauty on the shelf while shopping yesterday just by chance!
I checked the batch code and it was made in Feb2013. I can not express enough how fortunate that situation was. I love the 2014 Addict but Wow, I have to say that this 2012 is AMAZING!!!! This one is creamier and smoother than Addict of 2014.
The 2014 is more in your face where as this one dances around you in a sultry and caressing manner. I just love everything about it, even the bottle with the gold twist nozzle.
berkut1211 – :
I LOVE most everything that I have ever tried by Dior. I went ahead and blind bought this edp AND bought the biggest bottle. I have ever tried ANY perfume that I liked less than this. It smelled like muted plastic on my skin for some reason. Even the smell from the bottle directly smells horrible to me. I don’t know enough about perfume to even pinpoint which notes are making this happen. I don’t get it. My all time favorite is Dior Poison. I also like the Poison Girl and the other sweet new Poison Girl flanker. ALL of the blomming styles and bouquet of every type are beautiful to me. This was my first experience with something that I had to scrub off. Since then I also tried Poison in the white bottle and it was pretty bad to me as well. Not nearly as awful as this one. The notes seem like a perfume I would normally gravitate towards. Something is making it smell like straight up plastic on me. Strong and long lasting plastic that is impossible to scrub.

This stuff is to die for. I have and love the original too, but this version is basically the same idea but more sparkling, effervescent, and wearable. If the original formulation is a thick plush velvet, this version is like a sparkling silk veil in the same shade of midnight blue.
Deep and creamy sweet vanilla custard vibrating with a huge spicy sandalwood. This is the sexy grown daughter of my beloved Shalimar.
perman – :
I bought this version at Sephora in 2013 (some of the reformulated bottles where already available, but you could clearly identify each by the box) so I can guarantee it’s authentic and the 2012 version. I purchased it because I grew up with a Mimosa (what it’s called in central texas — aka persian silk tree) in my back yard and have forever been searching for a perfume with this note.
Addict 2012 does indeed open with a blast of vanilla mimosa for me; however, the mimosa fades in under 15 minutes. Also, to speak to some of the people concerned they have fakes, they might, but be advised this version never lasts on my skin more than an hour or two. If I bathe my clothes (which I avoid as the remaining 2/3 of the 100ML is all I will ever have of this) I can eek out 3-4 hours. Although, please note I have magical perfume destroying properties.
The dry down is a very boring powdery vanilla-spice, and the longevity is honestly frustrating — especially for vanilla. However, that 15 minutes of authentic mimosa; note the ONLY authentic mimosa I’ve ever found, still makes this special for me.
It’s also literally the only perfume I’ve ever been randomly complemented on. And I wear many many perfumes.
(Note for other people searching for mimosa — from another persons recommendation I tried BBW butterfly flower (only the lotion, couldn’t get the EDT for a price I was willing to pay) and it is close; but it the plastic BBW note is bothersome)

Yes, Objections: Dior’s vanilla base reminds me of rice pudding as well. In Hypnotic Poison, Poison Girl and Addict too.
This is very close to the original formula and enjoy it a lot.
иван1358 – :
I know why it’s called addict now.. So addicting. What a great fragrance! Creamy, cool, slightly masculine vanilla. Edgy and nice. Never sweet, just dreamy and airy feeling. Reminds me a bit of eating some sort of rice pudding.
shikaryi1502 – :
this was one of the very first perfumes that my husband bought me some 15 years ago. I was impressed from the very first sniff, so impressive warm and creamy and luxurious. One time we had a company event and one of the youngster co workers which I barely knew introduced me to her boyfriend. He said: ooh you are the lady from the lovely perfumes. I really felt flattered that evening.
leshy11 – :
this is very similar to Arden’s 5th avenue NYC Premiere
but that one is softer and more feminine and tender.
i like Addict, but all i can smell is vanilla and sandalwood
i cannot smell other notes listed here
i like not quite a sandalwood fan
strong sandalwood gives me headache
while this one is like the woody old-styled sandalwood
with a sugary vanilla bomb
it’s beautiful and sexy indeed
but i just don’t like it that much
just like Hypnotic Poison, i don’t like it but i don’t hate it, every once a while like two weeks , i would miss the smell and try that
just this one time, no more.
and this one, Addict, is perfect for bedding.
SERGEY1981 – :
Must be my skin or my nose, the humidity on that day or I blame it on the moonlight but this smells like straight out of bed breath.
Xeroxcruho – :
Whoo! This is one wild ride of a scent – it’s really boozy, as somebody else said below, but it’s so deep and rich and vanilla-y. I really do love it! I got a small bottle of it as a gift and I like it for nights out. It’s a great party fragrance to me. I think the bottle is beautiful, it’s a great piece for you vanity. I originally shied away from this because it was so popular, and sweet, but it’s really well done and just an elegant, grown up sweet oriental. The vanilla is there and it’s big, but it’s more like a vanilla extract to me, not sweet sugary vanilla.
pobut – :
This is the first version of Addict I’ve tried, and I really love it. I tested it at Ulta before Christmas, and it made my mouth water every time I’d smell the beautiful, rich aroma. My husband gave me a bottle as a gift, and I was dismayed that I didn’t enjoy the fragrance on myself as I’d remembered, so I returned it. After learning more about the reformulations, I realized that I had tested the 2012 and bought the 2014 (our local Ulta and Sephora both had 2012 testers and both versions in stock, intermingled in the shelves).
When I realized I saw the older style boxes on the shelves at Sephora and Ulta, I bought them to set aside, since it sounds like it’s not easy to find 2012 anymore, and I do love it. I’ve come to love the 2014 in it’s own right, and I’ll review it on that thread.
Addict is a bold fragrance, and the 2012 version has some delightful qualities that I think make it worth adding to a collection if you enjoy vanilla. Addict is no syrupy-sweet, candy vanilla – it’s rich, deep, boozy, mature (but not matronly). This version has a very distinctive mandarin/citrusy note in the beginning, which I find steps aside quite a bit in the drydown, revealing the rose. The rose note is not a powdery or generic rose, it’s a vibrant and earthy rose. The citrus and rose give the 2012 a brighter element than the 2014 version, which is what I preferred I think. The 2014 had a rougher edge in my opinion, and I’ve come to appreciate that now – it’s a bit dirtier and naughtier than the equally bold but slightly more polished and opulent 2012. I swear I smell tonka bean in the 2014, even though it’s not listed in the notes. I’ve read other reviewers note a cinnamon note in the 2014, but I don’t personally notice that. Cold winter air makes this fragrance dance around you beautifully and come alive!
U
I’ve not tried the 2002, although now I’d love to! I think both newer versions of Addict are worth trying on your skin and giving time to dry and develop. I have one on each arm now, and I can tell a difference in terms of the notes I’ve mentioned, but in general I think they share the same DNA and are really similar, although different enough that I enjoy having both versions.
I do wish the stores would educate staff more about reformulations and be more diligent to stock and sell the same version as the testers they put out, since it’s discouraging to test something and love it and bring home something totally different. I don’t think most sales staff are aware of the formulation changes even though the boxes list the notes, and they clearly are different. Thanks to everyone here who’s helped me learn more about the various formulas and fragrances!

Not a review but a warning !!
Im a bit gutted and totally agree that there are possible fakes of this as I have had the same experience as the reviewer below me ( please c her review as it’s spot on )
I also got duped with a probable fake 100 ml of this 🙁
The batch code did not make sense and it lasted all of 1 to 2 mins.
I reviewed it here ages ago and I did say I wondered about it’s awful staying power etc. Looking at my genuine blue glassed Dior midnight poison the glass on the addict looks sprayed blue yet
MP looks finished nicely with depth of colour to the glass and the glass is not sprayed but solid blue, under a lamp light the addict looks cheap but in daylight it’s much harder to notice !!! I really check and it fooled me.
It might be best to see if u have the real deal of this in any way you can if buying this version off eBay as in fairness I would say my Bottle was a convincing fake and seller may not have even known, mind u it would make sense as to why it was up for sale to start with lol 🙂
Generally the glass is just cheaper when u really look, possibly sprayed blue colour and scratched off fairly easily.
Interesting they had gone to trouble of putting the Dior engraving on the gold top button bit too, so fakes will slip through easier when those little touches are met, but the fragrance lacks projection and staying power lasting no more than a few minutes so that’s a more obvious sign.
Did anyone see the program about fake eggs lol it seems anything is faked nowadays, I read Chanel fragrance has been faked since the 1920,s so if your eyeing up a vintage look on web for signs of fake V real styles, quality , labels etc.
If anyone has this version of addict and knows it’s a genuine 2012 please tell me a little about the strength, quality of bottle , what’s on the label etc and then I can let people know what the other few differences are and look out for a genuine bottle ,thanks in advance,
Camden girl.

Beware of 2012 fakes going around.
I’ve bought over 300 perfumes online (mostly ebay) and to my knowledge, never got a fake.
Now twice in the same week… two Dior fakes. Poison Girl was one of them, Dior Addict 2012 was the other.
I have DA 2014 and I loooove it. Amazing bourbon vanilla and incredible longevity/sillage.
I wanted to get the 2012 out of curiosity, and I found it for a good price (my first problem… good prices).
This bottle had cheap glass, and there was a wrinkle/ridge in the glass bottle. The “cap” switch that goes from open to close was very very loose/cheap.
The smell was close, but weak. And disappears rather quickly from skin/clothing. Lasted decent on a tissue test.
And the biggest thing… the label/sticker said PARISTIAN CHRISTIAN DIOR instead of PARFUMS CHRISTIAN DIOR.
It was sealed/wrapped new in box too. The writing/logo on the box was slightly off center too.
The batch code was readable on the box, but was NOT stamped into the bottle sticker/label. The Batch Code put this at May 2011, but…. isn’t this the 2012 version?? Hmmm… fake batch code?
Now, I have read the reformulation is weaker than the original. But I find the 2014 to have incredible potency. So if I didn’t know my perfumes and know my Dior, I may have fell for this. 🙁
The seller was just a person, not an outlet/store, and she was very very friendly and sent me a quick refund. She said she got her perfumes from Mall Stands/Kiosks that went of out business… but mall stands are shady to me anyways.

I’m still on a search for the greatest spicy vanilla perfumes, so I decided to try this one. I’m still not quite sure what I feel. Sniffing it from the bottle, I was not impressed, so unimpressed that I wondered if I’d been duped by the place where I ordered it. It smelled like a sharp, choking, medicinal floral. I handed it to my husband to smell, and he said, “Whoa!” And not in a good way.
Once I sprayed it on my skin, it changed. After just a couple of minutes, I started to notice what so many have written here: the spices, the dark vanilla, a little sexiness. But it’s just not what I was expecting. It is so, so floral to me; and that is what I smell over all else. And a lot of florals just clash with my skin.
I will certainly give this a few more chances, because it might be one that will take some time to grow on me. Maybe I would have liked the original Addict better, but I have no idea where I’d find the real deal.
Alex_prat – :
Well firstly I thought this reform bottle was 2012?
Am I wrong yet my bottle says may 2011 as batch code?
I never smelled the first version yet 🙁
So can’t comment on reforms and weather this is better or worse than the original, however I like this a lot.
It’s quite strong at first but is quick to disappear a bit so I think the strength is questionable at moment mind u I drink perfume must be the Italian skin lol.
I like this I love this in fact !
Scrummy but it’s not long lasting enough shame as it’s lovely.
There’s people that live for the first formula and people who say this is better and others still that say 2014 is best ?
Help what’s best one with best longevity???
Well obviously the first one but is this really better than 2014 ???? Any one who knows the differences please inbox me 🙂

I got a mini of the 2002 formulation in the mail today.
It is the best vanilla I have ever come across.
Hypnotic Poison is a close second, but this…
This.
Is.
So.
Good.
It is almost like a spicy, sensual vanilla Coke with incredible depth. Absolutely intoxicating. I haven’t tried the reformulated EdP, but this at least blows the 2014 EdT out of the water. Love love love.
Edit: Okay, no, I got a 30 ml Hypnotic Poison in the mail today and that is still the vanilla to rule them all, but damn. This is still really good.

I have the 2012 formulation and have not tried the original. I did try the 2014 when I went to buy this because Macy’s had the 2012 as a tester and then sold the 2014. I ended up bringing it back and showing them that it was a different scent. So watch what they sell you. I ended up getting the 2012 from Saphora Yeah. I love this perfume and I would have this above any other if I had to choose. It opens spicy and vanilla but it is so well blended that there is a smooth sort of veil over it. Honestly the first time I smelled it I felt like it would be truly wonderful if I could just spray my sheets and roll around in it, nope not kidding. It develops as you wear it and lasts on me though out the day. I never have to reapply it and I have to be sure not to over apply because I love it so.

Hello my name is Gigi and I am a Dior Addict
This fragrance is true to it’s name and becomes addictive but I’m addicted to so many Dior fragrances: Miss Dior, Poison, Midnight Poison, Diorissimo J’adore. This one is nothing like the others because it’s really simple and very sweet. It’s not going to hit anyone’s noses and it’s a soft skin scent of night time flowers: night blooming cereus which smells like a little cactus in the dessert but is actually vanilla scented, a soft rose and orange blossom, citrus and lots of vanilla. It’s fruity-floral created with a light touch and yet it’s strong enough for me to get addicted to. I love the bottle. I haven’t seen this in stores in the longest time so it’s possible it’s been discontinued. I have 4 bottles. This is the kind of addiction for which I don’t need an intervention. All my friends are also fragrance addicts.

This Was not what I expected based On the wonderful reviews. I have tried it on my skin twice, and I like the opening a lot It feels sweet and fresh, very pleasant, but that smell only lasts for 2 minutes and then it changes into a kind of old lady smell, all I get is strong sandalwood and a suffocating feeling. Today I had to Wash My arm when I got home. I feel dissaponted because I wanted so bad to like it. The bottle looks so Luxe and mysterious.

Dior Addict 2012 -this is not evocative of what I had imagined it to be. I sampled the current formulation at Sephora about a month ago and found it to be rather simple and sheepish. So when I received this in the mail I was not surprised about how little it differed from the current formulation. This formulation is slightly stronger and very floral. It is neither woody, spicy nor sweet.
Opens with heavy mandarin orange accord which later mingles with heady floral notes, after this the composition becomes pretty linear. The scent in itself is nice but it is not magic, which is what I guess I was expecting, some kind of bewitching type of fragrance but I don’t find this to be distinctive.
I see how much people seem to love this one, perhaps it just comes down to chemistry?
xLAVRx – :
Addicting! Deep floral, rich vanilla, with a tad bit spices. I will never forget the first time I smelled this in Sephora. I will never forget. It was something I had never smelled before. I didn’t dare blink to drop the cash for this beauty.
It is just wonderful.
This will always be my scent.

OK I am editing this because I have been confused as hell as to which version I have. So many variations. Solid bottle with gold top, banded bottle with gold band, banded with silver band, removable cap, non removable cap.. bla bla Dior you morons stop changing stuff.
So here goes. I do have one original bottle and one from 2012. Dear God this is incredible. They both smell identical to one another with the exception of longevity and depth. The untrained nose might not even know this or someone who did not regularly wear this fragrance..
Anyhow it’s a gorgeous scent it has lots of depth and I get mild floral but more of a vanilla spice. A very sexy warm fragrance that is perfect for days like today that are chilly and gloomy. I can see this easily being ones signature. It’s one hell of a fragrance.

After reading some of the reviews I realize that I may have smelled the new one today, because I didn’t know why everyone talked so much about it. It smelled floral and not as interesting as I expected, not an outstanding vanilla… Nothing outstanding at all other than the beautiful bottle/design.
I will try again next time I see it and I’ll also try to find out if it’s the new one or the original.

This is the best Addict. For me it’s better than the original, it’s smoother, more sensual…romantic even. The sillage/longevity is excellent too. I’m so sad that this is pulled off the shelves. The 2014 version is not bad, but no nightblooming cereus, no silkwood blossom. The addition of silkwood-blossom in this version of Addict was what made this one so sensual and beautiful to me…it gives the vanilla scent a fuzzy, velvety nuance. I love silkwood blossom…wish it would be used more often in perfumes.

I finally managed to track down and purchase the 2012 version. I had been wanting this one for a long time. It is sooooo seductive, such a rich and creamy vanilla, OMG. I like all of the Dior Addict perfumes, but this one is by far the best IMO.

This perfume has got hot written all over.
When I just got it a couple of years ago I found it so beautiful that I used to wear it all the time.
Then I smelled it on another young woman and it was sexy to the point of making me feel embarrassed. So I realized this is hot stuff, not screaming but alluding sex in every direction and now I wear it only when I consciously want to feel really sexy or to seduce someone. It’s a powerful weapon. This should be used with caution, not Diesel!
belozerova – :
What do I say about this beauty. It is a wonderful, warm and comforting scent which lasts almost an entire day. Sillage is lovely too, this is the kind I prefer. Unfortunately most fragrances available today do not offer that, unless they are from some niche perfume houses. I made a huge mistake when I tried addict and addict 2 and asked my cousin to choose the better one. I should have gone with my choice. Addict 2 is nice too but nothing special, nothing like addict at all, just some generic nice smelling stuff. I have to get addict asap to stop regretting not having bought it already. It smells comforting at best. Give yourself time to love it. Do not decide that you don’t like it, you could be very wrong.
sergei267982 – :
Ok, so I reviewed twice the 2014 version because that’s what I own. Mind you, I only wear this lovely thing on special occasions, when I want to blow someone’s mind or when I am feeling like I need a pick up emotionally. This is my sacred potion, a perfume akin to Chanel no 5 in making me feel like the rich lady I fantasize I am in my head! 🙂 So, you must know, I do not use this very often, I save it. Today, I was finally able to purchase the illusive iridescent box, Mr. 2012…. As much as I loved my 2014 version, I just had no idea, this version is like 2014 x’s 10. Amazing, that feeling I get when I wear my Addict is sadly surpassed in warmth, strength and I just sense more intricacies, its just too much. This one is going to allow me to wear my other version more freely, more often. This perfume is so amazing to my senses that I would be willing to narrow my purchases down to my Bal A Versailles, Chanel no 5 and my Addict. It really is that good. My advise? Get a bottle if you are at all interested, it is worth the pretty penny you will spend if the notes above at all interest you, you won’t be disappointed. My next venture? If this is this good, I’m going to track down the 2002 version and I will review that as well, God bless! 🙂

I tried some Dior Addict at Ulta today, and I’m absolutely in love. I’m pretty sure the tester was the 2012 version because of the bottle. That makes me crazy, because you can bet what they’re selling in the boxes is 2014. Anyway, the 2012 version smells amazing. It’s spicy and warm with a boozy vanilla. I also get this strange but wonderful banana peel note in the beginning. For some reason this perfume is much stronger on my skin than on the tester strip. I’ve been wearing it for several hours today, and it’s still going strong. The sillage is excellent too. Now I just need to test the 2014 formulation to see how they compare:)

I just love this scent! I had the old version and i have the 2012 version. The only large difference is the old version had a heavier base of tonka bean and the spice notes, thats it. The new version is lighter and refreshed on the top notes so its just a touch lighter but drydown is the same as old version..you cannot tell them apart after that. And whoever thinks this scent is repulsive…doesnt have a clue of the past and current refinement and quality of this “real grown woman sexy scent by dior. This is for a confident grown woman with sex appeal and style and that is not afraid to be noticed and wants to bring explict drama, heat and wants to show off in certain moments. I love this! I get nothing but compliments and men love this! This is a scent that wears yyou rather than “you wear the scent. Sexy, cocky scent. This one makes men drop their pants! Boxer dropper! Not for a young immature girl .

I bought this today (07/03/15)in John Lewis’ in Milton Keynes where I had a really good discussion about Dior reformulations – and I have to say the SA was very candid about the fact that reforms are prevalent and seemingly constant for the whole industry. So it seems there is always going to be a running commentary about which version smells better, and I absolutely admit to being a vintage hoarder of a number of the CD frags.
That said, I absolutely LOVE this perfume, it is just delicious. I snaffled a spray and carried on shopping, allowing it to bloom and develop on my skin before making a decision to purchase it. I could not stop sniffing my arm, it’s warm with vanilla and peppery/spicy notes and I think I find it really interesting because it seems aptly named, I am completely addicted already.
A good while ago I bought Addict when it was launched and rehomed it soon after – probably because I was a little younger and not such a fume head back then (shame on me I know).
The 2012 version passed me by, partly because I had been so “meh” about the original. However, today I was on a mission to give it another go and I clearly have the latest version because I am sure John Lewis has a huge turnover of sales. All I can say is, yes it feels familiar, and yes it’s certainly a Dior perfume but on my skin and to my nose, it’s bloody gorgeous and I am very happy.
Don’t get me wrong, Diorella was my sig frag for AGES years ago and the new version is a rough approximation of the original so I know for those who have had their signature fragrances ruined by reformulation, it’s heart-breaking and there’s just no substitute for the original.
alex1985x – :
I purchased the original Dior Addict a while ago, based on reviews here (THANK YOU!), and have just obtained the 2012 reformulation (again- THANK YOU 😉 They’re remarkably different, so I thought a comparison might be of use. The original (no gold band, deep gold button, writing on upper portion of the bottle, paralell to the side edge, bottle is a deep transparent blue, fume is reddish amber) Is dark, spicy, reminiscent of many of the adored fragrances of the past (think Youth Dew, with no powder, but plenty of kickass attitude). I get a blast of vanilla from the beginning, the florals show up a little for the dry down, but mostly DA is, as reputed, a dark spicy vanilla bomb. The tonka bean is also very apparent, and gives the scent a heady sweet kick. I can see why people describe this as having a chocolate note! Definitely for winter and evening wear. Wonderful sillage and longevity….but doesn’t transform very much on my skin. Which is just fine as this is a seductive powerhouse from start to finish.
The 2012 reformulation (gold band below the sprayer, slightly lighter gold button, writing same as previous bottle, glass is mostly opaque, fume is deep amber) is less exciting, but more interesting, in my opinion. The heady sweetness and heavy spice are gone from the initial accord. Instead, it’s silkwood, orange blossom, jasmine and mandarin leaf. ’12DA is just as heady as the original, but much sharper, edgier, and distinctly floral, with less spice. After about 30 minutes, the flowers begin to mellow, and the vanilla and sandalwood come out to play. While the 12DA has good sillage for 1-2 hours, and leaves a touch of a trail after that, it isn’t nearly as va-va-voom as the original. However, this makes it more flexible. I can definitely see wearing the 2012 to the office, and in the summer or fall, in addition to winter. It’s softer, cleaner, and much more delicate in tone. You still get the long, lovely dry down, vanilla and sandalwood, but the ’12 provides just a touch of tonka bean. In general the ’12 remains crisper throughout. Still comforting and cozy in that final phase, but the florals linger, slooowly fading over time, providing a far more interesting trasformation than the original. ’12DA isn’t as exciting as ’02DA, but it has a charm of its own. I really enjoy it.
I suspect that the 2012DA may be a more generally wearable scent, while the original may not be friendly to everyone’s skin. On me, neither scent produces rose or berry notes. Both are great, but these two versions are most definitely NOT interchangeable. If you like heavy orientals, go for the original. If you like florientals, you’ll probably be much, much happier with the ’12, and your pocket book will thank you as well. If you like both, you’ll enjoy the variation and similarities between the two- they are really quite striking in contrast!
Personally, I’m delighted to have both of these scents in my beginner collection. It’s hard to believe that they were marketed as the same scent. If I found a scent with a flanker that had this kind of variation, I would be impressed that the house had put out two lovely scents, and baffled that they didn’t give one its own name.
