Description

Elegance is an armor. To sense this singular man, one should cast aside the impeccable finish of his made-to-measure suits, see through the stiffness of his collar and the modern prince mask he wears. He is sophisticated and excels in the art of concealing, yet some details betray him: here the sheen of a satin cuff, there the finesse of amanicured hand.

Under the powerful trail of vetiver, leather and Tonka bean is concealed the sensuous personality of Putain des Palaces aroused by an overdose of dynamone, benzoin and opoponax, like a streak of lip gloss revealed here by the presence of rose essence. He is a master of pretence and skillfully dissimulates his true nature; he disguises it and imprisons it in the mirror of his compact powder case. He expresses his ambivalence by indulging in disconcerting contrasts – sandalwood and geranium, violet and citrus accord at the heart – that he dares without ever unveiling who he really is. As the repressed seducer he is, he belongs to everyone without yielding to anyone. And all can fancy the pleasure of feeling him in one’s mouth. Like him, we all have a secret side. An inner garden we cultivate to protect our most abiding passions and leaves us sole guardian of our identity.

Nose for this fragrance is Nathalie Feisthauer. Delicious Closet Queen was launched in 2007.

Received as a free sample. Synthetic smell, low sillage and longevity. Not purchase material for me. A much better option for a raspberry woody fragrance is Svensk Virke. I am spoiled.

Sharp, sweet, unisex. Not great For the price though– I hate paying high $$$$ for synthetics.
A pair of polyester pants should not be as expensive as linen OR cashmere.

I really like this! It doesn’t smell like everyone else. I really get the leather and raspberry. Not hey play off each other. So it’s not overly sweet or leathery. Unique is the best to describe it. Slightly similar to Joop, but just slight. If you want something different this is it

You grab a nice clean white shirt washed with some nice detergent or fabric softener, put your leather jacket on, and go to take a walk. The leather jacket is quite old, so not heavy smelling. You grab your keys and step out the house while you unwrap and eat a raspberry-flavoured candy. You stop to take a look at your violets which haven’t blossomed yet. You are not into flowers, but you enjoy taking care of your little suburban garden. It’s sunny, but not hot. The air is fresh this early spring day.

Major notes to my nose are raspberry, leather (more of a suede), tonka, and violet. In the drydown I can also detect some vetiver.
Despite this being a raspberry-leather combo, don’t expect nothing like tuscan leather. This is a nice, clean, fruity sweet, and somehow fresh. I’d say this is indeed quite similar to original santal / montblanc individuel! Not saying their are 100% alike, but still pretty close.

Very unique smell…. I bought this as a semi blind buy after doing some research and reading some reviews, I like unique scents and have a nose like a bloodhound and I liked most of the notes and scent profiles associated so I took a flier.. and I’m happy I did.. You could say it’s unisex, but I feel like it’s masculine but in a sensual feminine sexy way… I guess the name describes it well…. It starts out almost like as someone described it well like hairspray but not as ozoney… That goes away quick then you get the leather, roses, florals ….after another little while the raspberries come thru…the leather smells like nice new car leather as opposed to a leather jacket.. Not a bad thing…like driving a little red roadster.. It just smells nice and interesting and makes u wanna inhale it

Unusual, leather, fruit and flowers. This opened as a spicy leather, then raspberries appeared, mixed with violets. I feel it is a unisex scent, with leather and flowers being the remaining notes after a short time.
I do like it, but I prefer the opening notes, the fade off is quite tame.

Tried this from a traveling sample box…it seems to me to be very unisex….I like it but I’m not sure if I’d wear it or just enjoy smelling it on a man. This is a very light leather…nothing to be scared of here!

    A wonder, a treat.
Recreating this fragrance as a tableau vivant, you are sitting on the porch swing in the Deep South, one riding boot clad foot across the other, enjoying a mint julep and fanning yourself with a sandalwood fan with a Violet candy in your mouth while the geraniums are blooming bright in the afternoon sun, as the object of your desire slowly eats fresh strawberries and dreamily watches the swans gliding across the pond…
    So yeah, that.
    An instant favourite.

Etat Libre d’Orange has for me a few misses among it hits, fragrances that i can get the concept but wonder what they were thinking when they tied it with the chosen fragrance. Delicious Closet Queen got me thinking why a fragrance with a provocative name and idea gets such a horrible and unpleasant musky and plastic violet leaf confection. Really, are they being ironic and saying that most mens that wear this kind of average scent are closet gays? Or is this a joke in the reverse way, meaning that a closet gay wanted to be, in fact, more masculine? Either way, sounds ofensive and of bad taste. If they haven’t launched that monster they call Secretions Magnifique i would pick this one as their worst scent.

Balmain’s’ La Mome collides with leather and patchouli. Haunting and intoxicating. I love it!

Delicious Closet Queen by Etat Libre d`Orange opens with the trademark hairspray accord with a clean masculine musk and a touch of fruit. There is definitely a leather note floating around, but I’m also getting something strange and off-putting. Fart accord? Urinal? It would not surprise me if ELdO included fart accord considering that they’ve exposed us to blood, semen, milk, etc.. Maybe it is supposed to smell like the men’s toilet? Yes, that’s it: our sweet and delicious queen is in the men’s room standing at a urinal and ignoring the sidewise glances given by men wearing generic butch cologne. As the fragrance develops, the men’s toilet fades to reveal the somewhat girly woody oriental; this part of the composition is not remarkable, but the note combination is definitely interesting. There is something about DCQ that reminds me of Egoiste, but the former explores the implied dichotomy more than the later, which could make it difficult to wear.
    4.5/5 for the concept
    3/5 for the toilet

This is the most surprising perfume I ever smelled O.O
Let’s talk a little about me first. I’m a straight man who loves women. I love women so much that I hang out with them everywhere, everywhen. I do love shopping, talking about cosmetics, perfumes, etc…
I’m a faked girl, a lesbian girl in a male body and I assume it entirely !
That being said, this perfume is my personality, olfactory speaking.
Begins with a fruity-floral scent, like a duet raspberry/rose. Absolutely charming, lovely and ultra-feminine. But, as time goes by, the feminity slowly shifts on a virile masculinity, with a strong woody and oriental base.
This is not a classic unisex one, this is more like a shemale one, a girl that slowly transforms herself in a boy.
We often say that in every man sleeps a woman, and conversely. This perfume is the perfect materialization of that motto. Period.
Amazing, shafting, original. An amazing BIG LOVE for it.

Most have already said it better but this is complex and indeed delicious. I smell tonka, vetiver, raspberries and a few more things I can’t yet put a name to. I get little flashes of citrus every now and then, never when I sniff my wrist directly, but when I turn my head or move around. Lovely.
Also one of the few leathers I can wear(most turn odd or downright bad-smelling on me to my great disappointment).
    Perfectly suitable anywhere, imho.

Those who miss Yohji Yamamoto’s long gone masterpiece “Yohji Femme” should definitely try “Delicious Closet Queen”. The combination of leather, raspberry and roses is yummy and reminded me a lot of Yohji’s perfume, but not so strong and opulent.

I love this scent! I made my gay best friend get it in the end, although he balked at the name at first (even though he adored the scent before he knew the name, he hasn’t come out of the closet, which is a great joke considering the name of this!). It’s a happy scent. I usually get turned off by very leather smells (there’s one by Serge Lutens that completely made me sick, I don’t want to smell like car upholstery), but this one is faint and lit up by flowers and berries, rounded off and deepened by the sandalwood and tonka bean. Do try it, it’s truly a lovely lovely scent, but you have to be guy enough to pull this off, it’s a tad sweetish.
Very aptly named I have to add.
DO NOT be lulled into thinking this screams Gay! It does not. But to me, it won’t matter anyway.

The opening of this one is really nice. Raspberry and leather contrast with each other create a very unique aroma. Unfortunately, the drydown is very boring in an old men cologne kind of way.

Closet Queen has been a pleasant surprise for me. To date, I have found the ELDO range to be slightly amiss somehow, but Closet Queen definitely delivers. What I get here is a modern leather sported by a woody base, but eminently wearable by guys and girls, and a good option for those lusting for a summer leather. Today has been 30 degrees C plus and I have not found this overbearing, nor did it break down as some fragrances do in the heat.
I find Closet Queen to be interesting enough to keep me interested and wanting more. It is quirky and modern, and very endearing.
Thanks so much to Scorpiosheep for this sample. Two thumbs up!

Pow! A strong burst of leather, tobacco, and citrus. Oh, no it’s a man scent! I received a sample and the back label only had the maker. Totally masculine and it smells a lot like Washington Sq by Bond 9, but with a more subdued berry scent. Wait, it’s mellowing and the tobacco is sweet, quite nice and I’m not a tobacco fan per se. My skin loves resins and woods and usually go sweet on me. This is a good modern scent that men and women could wear…I’m a chick that isn’t into wearing “man scents”. As it wears, it’s quite mellow. I won’t buy it, but would recommend it.

I received a sample of this wonderful fragrance from my good friend Linda a few weeks ago. ELDO scents never disappoint me and always seem to be extremely well made. The imagery that came into my head once the name of the fragrance was recited to me was of a beautiful cross dressing diva. Her makeup and perfume mixing with harsh accords of her native odor “she” was naturally born with.
She is relaxing after her big show in front of her boudoir. She removes her wig, and adjusts her genitals. Afterwards, when she is back to “normal” she leaves the gaybar as a normal man, gets into her car and drives home. Her life isn’t one of hiding, but, she is however very selective to whom she reveals her secret to.
    The top:
Opening with sweet, tart raspberry the beginning of this fragrance is very feminine. Raspberry is complimented well by an earthy-sweet, slightly piney Opoponax accord. This fragrance is BUILT upon contradictory/complimentary notes. Whereas the raspberry is very sweet and slightly sour, the opoponax is rather stale and dry.
The iris in the beginning is the contrasting accord, interrupting a sensual slow dance between the ingredients of before.
    The middle:
After iris is done with it’s spontaneous jittery behavior it begins to tone down, and allow a moist powdery violet to play. Rose bounces onto the scene, with her pink dress and red hair and begins blowing kisses to the bad boy in the room, Leather. The leather in this composition isn’t the stuff of normal mens fragrances, this leather is sweet and tender. He’s a mommas boy at heart, but doesn’t complain when sweet innocent rose offers up her moist femininity to him. Don’t be fooled, whist rose an leather dominate the middle of this fragrance, there is always a hint of violet throughout.
    The base:
Starts with a slight whiff of patchouli, a unisex accord, herbal, soft, sweet and slightly masculine. While in passing you notice a well dressed man (vetiver) seemingly glaring at you, he is crisp and stern, not like the other patrons to this night club. He is a wall flower but it seems the he is the only thing keeping the place sane, glaring at the patrons who may be getting out of hand. Sandalwood and tonkabeans are what wraps up this fragrance. Ending in an unmistakable masculinity, with memories of being a female.
    FABULOUS

The concept behind Delicious Closet Queen is the one of a feminine fragrance built to be wore by men who aren’t afraid to show their feminine side. It sounded quite challenging/intriguing to me and when I found a 50ml bottle of this composition for 10 euros (no kidding) at a special sale they were doing at La Fayette in Berlin, I blind bought it right away.
This stuff opens cheekily chemical with a sort of rawsberry bubblegum note that’s at the same time horrifying and interesting. Floral patterns, opopnax, hints of leather and green notes join the party giving birth to a sweet (but never too much) and nutty scent laying on a woody/vetiver base. Maybe a bit generic and somehow nondescript but not completely unsuccessful.
Nothing outstanding or particularly exciting here, but overall Delicious Closet Queen still mantains a slightly weird vibe that can make of it a quite enjoyable fragrance.
IMO it doesn’t worth the full retail price, but if you happen to find it at a bargain price, go ahead as it can be funny.

The opening is quite different from what I’d imagined–I smell a very strong leather from the bottle. But on my skin it has a very smoky fresh vetiver…A few minutes later, the leather comes out and it becomes something similar to the Putain des Palaces…Leather and flowers. Synthetic and somehow a little dirty. Anyway, cannot imagine a man wearing it.
