Description

Deep Red is aimed at strong and active women. This fruity-floral aroma opens with notes of black currant, pear, tangerine and blood orange. The fresh and mouthwatering opening is followed by ginger leaves, freesia and hibiscus accords of the heart. Woodsy sensual finish is composed of sandalwood, Californian cedar, vanilla and musk. It was created in 2001.

Deep Red was created by Alain Astori and Beatrice Piquet.

To answer the comment below: I would recommend checking out the Armani Code Cashmere fragrance

This is a great sexy smelling, sweet perfume for 20 somethings. A favourite of mine when I was younger, it would be nice to have a lighter version or slightly more sophisticated version for ladies not in their teens or twenties.

A totally disappointing blind buy, I don’t find this sexy or seductive in any way, it smells like a dusty dark, sad drawer… I really wanted to like this, I just can’t.

This didn’t last on me even 15 minute. I remember asking my friend is she smelling anything. Well, she didn’t just like I did not. She smelled my wrist and fragnance was barely there.

I tried this in summer and basically this is dry vanilla mainly enriched with sandalwood, musk and some freesia. It smells like a creamy tonka fragrance. That’s it. Everyone who smelled it on me even said that I smell like vanilla.

Hugo Boss perfume that I always enjoyed in freezing winter.
The scent is just 1 step away from men’s cologne. Orange and blackcurrant are intense in the beginning, later it settles down to spicy smokey ginger and sandalwood combination.

some fruits + vanilla + Vapo Rub / a rheumatism ointment. Left me unimpressed.

I purchased my 50ml today, and had to try it.
Just go easy with application, because it can become head-ache inducing.
I sprayed it on inside the car, which was warm, and couldn’t smell a thing, the moment I stepped outside, it was blood orange, vanilla, black currant & ginger! Wowza, it needs to be worn in cold weather, and since it’s listed as a night scent, I can definitely see why 😉

First gift I gave to my wife 13 years ago, and now I missed her and this scent. my no.1 female scent forever!

im a guy, and very rarely do i find women frags attractive. the moment a frag displays something very feminime/flowery/girly it also stops smelling good to my nose, and often times it gets cloying for me. i prefer real men stuff on me, and unisex frags on ladies for the most part.
having said that, i have (accidentally, dont ask:D) sprayed it on my finger at an airport, and i was totally blown away. the bloodorange is just seductive and yummi and all the flowers around it just push the story even further. now im searching for a lady who wears this, who I imagine to be tall, brunette or black, not gym obessesed but very fit (probably plays tennis:) and have a clean-cut stylish wardrobe, of which she masterfully picks just the right colors, 10 out of 10 times.
so there you have it, a man’s perspective on this one;)
a very serious contender in the casual/active lifestyle lady frag game indeed.

This was my very first proper perfume back in 2003.
The blood orange and black currant are very dominant for the first hour or so, later the vanilla and sandalwood push themselves to the front a bit more.
I loved the scent back then and wore it pretty much whenever I went out to party… which is also why despite still liking it I find myself quite unable to wear it anymore.
For me this is tied so much to the early 2000s, to 19 year old me standing in line in front of some club and all the (wonderful) folly that comes along with that time of life.
I literally can’t wear it without getting flashbacks of that time and getting close to some identity crisis between 19 year old me and 34 year old me.
Loved it back then, hope people are still enjoying it, but it’s too much nostalgia for me at this point.

Very similar to Valentino V absolu, but this one is more sweet. I love both of them, but Valentino V absolu is still my signature. Sorry Boss 🙂

This smells so good! I work in a hospital and this week i entered a patient‘s room and the entire room smelled like soft spicy white flowers. It was heavenly! Today i dared to ask what she was wearing and she showed me the bottle and was nice enough to spray a bit on my arm (without me asking her to do it!) . Deep red is one of the best fragrances ever! I don‘t get the comparison to By Night and Egeo. To me, they smell nothing alike. Deep Red is an intense white floral, with just enough spice to give it a twist and make it remarkable. It smells young, relaxed, lush and feminine.
By Night and Egeo are sweet, not very floral fragrances.
I don‘t get any sweetness from Deep Red. No fruits either. But i do not miss any of these notes. The tuberose and the ginger do such a great job that they don‘t need any assistants.
My only complaint is longevity. To be honest, longevity is moderate, but i would like it to last forever. This goes to my wish list.
    Final note: 10/10

Deep red is one of my first favorite fragrances. Fragrances which reminds me on my collage days, happiness and love. Nostalgia and happiness. I feel orange and vanilla. I always have one bottle of this fragrance in my collection. So sexy and hot!

Deep Red was very popular here when I was a teen, when it was still kind of new and the clumsy matte bottle seemed modern and cool. I was never a Hugo Boss perfume kind of girl, but from my perspective now I’d say this smells good and is one of the best fragrances by them.
I smell blood orange and sweet citrus notes in general, mixed with vanilla and a hint of sandalwood. Lots of ginger give the scent a fresh, fizzy quality without being too sharp.
In the heart the tuberose is very noticeable to me. I’m surprised it’s not voted higher, maybe because it’s not an old school or very naturalistic tuberose, but a modern, a bit fresher and slightly plasticy one, if that makes sense. Anyways, it’s clearly there.
The drydown is sweet and warm, a bit creamy and still hints to the citric fresh top notes.
For some reason Deep Red makes me think of Hypnotic Poison sometimes. Not that they’re dupes, but they share a similar vibe. Deep Red is lighter and fresher though, and also a bit flatter in the drydown.
I think it’s a bright, sweet and youthful scent with an edge. Sexy, warm, but not really deep and mysterious. I will leave it in the 2000s where it really belongs. But if the notes sound good to you, it’s definitely still worth a try today.

  18. :

I get mostly the fruits, musk, ginger, vanilla and sandalwood. This is a very sexy scent, and screams POWER. If fragrances had colors, this would be red indeed, and Hypnotic Poison would be the darker red it is. They are similarish, similar sultry vibes. HP is the Queen and this is the gorgeous, headstrong princess. Lovely bottle. As strong and independent as the scent itself. Decent silage and longevity. And most of all – timeless, it will always be a top class beaut in my books

The woody and vanilla comes through nicely on me with just a touch of spice. Nothing fruity or citrusy for me here, even though I love citrus, especially in the summertime. It is nice, but I wear it today, on a warm summer morning in July, and realized, this is not a fragrance for me when it is warm outside, because the uplifting citrus totally passes me by. I like it enough though to keep it in my collection for autumn days. The image of golden leaves comes to mind with this fragrance, and I am sure I will appreciate it way more when the sun rays turn orange-golden again with a slight crisp wind in the air.

I really wanted to like this perfume . But for me it has way too much sandalwood in it. I was looking for a change from my go to, Burberry Woman, but this is certainly not the one for me. Needless to say, I have a full 3.0oz bottle available for swap. Message me if interested. 😉

Lightly spiced, sparkling, vanilla perfume. To me this is a great everyday, daytime scent especially since it’s so affordable. I think this is a great perfume for the office. Sadly longevity is a smidge lacking with only 5-6 hours even with a liberal application. I do find this one sort of addictive though – once I start wearing I don’t want to stop. It’s just a fruity vanilla on me but something about it is intoxicating (to me) really works well in the autumn when the weather is just starting to turn cool.
I can image a version of myself (like in an alternate reality where I’m not a perfume hoarder) wearing this on the daily.

I honestly believe a man can totally wear this. Very sexy for both men and women. I think it has something in the notes that makes it wearable for men. Not very strong scent or good silage but it is delicate and elegant and nice.

First time wearing this scent…it does remind me a lot of Valentino V, which has been a favorite since middle school, but it’s deeper and warmer. Super weak though 🙁 I used at least 5-6 sprays (usually never go over 3-4 for any perfume) and I can barely smell it at all, though I do have a slight cold so I’m sure that’s affecting it. Still, it was really cheap and it looks like I found a new love and a replacement for my beloved and discontinued V. I can already tell that I will use up the whole bottle and repurchase.

    Hugo boss deep red.
This starts off as nothing, citrus, salt and vinegar like the chip flavour!
Then, the citrus and chip flavour leaves this cool floral starts to waft around… worth testing, might be a good buy.
Not linea so see how it goes on your skin.

I purchased this because I was in a rush and wanted to pick something. This is somewhat unique, sweet and citrusy but I think it’s the ginger which gives it a different, deeper edge. In my opinion, it is borderline unisex. This one just does not excite me to wear and there are only so many days in a week, I want to be excited to wear my perfume every single day! I think it’s the ginger note, I’m just not a fan. Plus the longevity and village leave a lot to be desired. I gifted this to a friend who ended up loving it! One man’s trash…

Hugo boss deep red was only perfume of one of my good friends for years so I am familiar with it very well.I liked it on her very much but I never think of buying it for me.I can’t smell most of notes.it’s not citrusy for me.it’s vanilla and woods with fruits and a little spice.it’s fruit is like pear or apricot.it’s not a very fruity perfume.sweet but not very sweet.I think good thing about deep red is two things:first it don’t have age.it’s good for a twenty year old and good for a fifty year old too.second it’s very useful.good for everyday, work, date.my friend use it always and everywhere and it was always suitable.it’s a casual and comfortable perfume with some naughty cool caracter that make it sexy.it’s warm and sweet good for fall but I know that you can use it all the year too.longevity is moderate sillage is good at first then moderate

Right at that moment I realized why I love it so much.
    Here is the reason:
    Valentino V
They are practically the same. Only one difference. This beauty called V isn’t availible for years anymore. 🙁

I dunno why this perfume has a different kind of seduction sense like a “powerful kind but not sultry yet somewhat alluring in unexplainable way”. the smell of citruses and gourmand-ish make everything different. the scent is really much “Intimidative dominatrix”

  30. :

    4 out of 5

This is a beautiful fragrance. I hadn’t tried it until recently, reading the description of it being a fruity floral had me a little disinterested as I feel like everything at the moment is a fruity floral. But this is just seduction in a bottle. On me it has a subtle sweetness that’s intwined with a soft spiciness and is anchored by a delicious gingery vanilla in the base. I can’t get enough of this. I’m sorry I didn’t try it sooner. I am a fan of hypnotic poison and I understand the comparison. This is a much softer easier to wear fragrance though. I could live in this where as I find I need to be in the mood for Hp.

  31. :

Really warm scent. Blackcurrant and ginger opening transforms into musky vanilla drydown. I could imagine this as a fruity version of hypnotic poison.

I didn’t realize that I haven’t reviewed this yet. When I first received this scent in the mail, I didn’t like it. I thought it was too meek and watered down. I didn’t smell anything but the weak blood orange. But I kept wearing it, and now it has become one of my favorites! It’s a non-sharp citrus with a Hypnotic Poison-like drydown. The vanilla is not a blatantly sweet vanilla. It’s a dry and light almond-y vanilla, like Hypnotic Poison, but lighter(as in less heavy), less dark (not that I think Hypnotic Poison is a dark scent), and less benzene-y. I love this scent. I think it can work for any season. Don’t worry if you don’t like Hypnotic Poison…I’m not a huge fan, but this perfume just works. Try it more than once! Also, I don’t think this smells synthetic or too masculine. The ginger isn’t too strong, and neither is the currant. The sandalwood is not smoky. I don’t find it too sweet either. It’s really not that sweet at all…especially compared to popular scents nowadays. Going through the comments, they’re so different. Interesting. Unfortunately, I find that longevity and sillage are not too good for this one. But I don’t care! I wear it anyway! It’s a very wearable scent for every environment.

Hugo Boss Deep Red was my first bottle of designer perfume. It was a gift from a former lover and he brought it all the way from UK to me. I can still remember how I really loved the scent of this perfume and I was just 17 years old back then.
Physically, the scent smells like a mixture of vanilla and warm spiced up tobacco with a tinge of musk. It’s not an offensive scent.
Personally, wearing this scent evokes a sense of sensuality and danger. Brave, confidence and fearless. Provocative but not offensive. It makes me feel classy in a bold way.
Where I am from, it is quite difficult to find a decent 90ml of this beast, what more a 30 ml of this thing. I really miss wearing it.

  34. :

    3 out of 5

Wearing this for the first time today. Currently smells like orange marshmallows and men’s shaving cream on me. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’ll update later. I really wasn’t expecting it to come off so masculine on me though…
Nope, big, nope! It’s my own fault though, I should have know better than to risk it with cedar and black currant. Smells masculine in a very 90’s way and synthetic. This would probably smell good on the right guy though or a girl who doesn’t amplify the bitter and tart notes of cedar and black currant. However, just a warning, it is very sweet.

Update: I just finished my bottle. I sprayed the last bit on a cardigan and some scarves so that I can enjoy the scent a little longer – I hope – until I wash them next week. I’m 40 now and I’ll repurchase in a heart beat, if I find Deep Red again, even if I see it out of season.
I still like the things I said in my earlier review which I’m leaving up. It’ll be a short scroll below this review.
Deep Red had both some of my spirit in it and so far, everyone’s found it inoffensive or liked it very much on me.
I think if I have to define Deep Red in a few words I’ll choose: warm, fresh, sexy.

Love this! Sweet and flirty but totally wearable by a *ahem* mature woman(I’m 45). It’s amazing and I love it, but the longevity is just not there for me. Or maybe I’m just nose blind to it because it’s softer than my usual frags.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

Fun and flirty, such a beautifully confident fragrance without being imposing or aggressive! I wore it continuously in my late 20s to early 30s, and considered it my favourite signature scent. This perfume always allowed me to walk with my head held up high! Recently, though, I’ve found it to be a little lacking in depth and maturity, so I changed my scent. Still, I ADORE Deep Red for the confidence and personal empowerment it gave me over the years. I just think this scent is more for young women than people my age (nearing 40).

  38. :

I know this isn’t the most modern fragrance but I randomly decided to test this and boy did I fall in love at first sniff! It is absolutely delicious! It kind of reminds me of a fresher and more wearable version of Dior’s Hypnotic Poison. I couldn’t stop smelling my wrist and bought it the next day! I think this is suitable for all year round wear and would make anyone feel especially wonderful when wearing it.

On paper it is lovely! On my skin it smells like a football or basketball. I know that sounds strange but it does. Too bad, I really liked it! If anyone has any idea what note that could be giving me that smell please let me know haha!

  41. :

This was such a long time ago, but I definitely remember how it smelt. It definitely conjures up images of a woman in her twenties, with a drop dead gorgeous body, wearing a red hervé légère dress, out for a night of clubbing. I can totally get the sexy vibe that others are talking about, and I want to re-buy after reading all the reviews, but alas all it ever did was amplify the harsh sandalwoody notes on me after the dry down, and so irl, I actually hate it. Wish I could have liked it better, but alas I’ll have to find another perfume that makes me feel as sexy as this does for others.

  42. :

    5 out of 5

I was sure I’m gonna love it by reading reviews and looking at list notes,so I even didn’t try it in store and yeap,I do
I love it when a fragrance is sweet and warm also fresh the same time and hugo boss deep red is a good example for that
It’s a combination of sweet citrus notes, some fruit notes(I can get blackcurrent and ripe pear) and my beloved gingery vanilla..so this is a lovely mixture for me
The only things that are different with my imaginations is about the tuberose which I though would not be detectable but there is a soft, creamy tuberose almost dominant on me,the other thing is about blood orange,I can get an orangy citrus note but not specifically blood orange, which I wished to detect here, still I love it,drydown smells like a orange cake, vanilla frosted and pieces of blackcurrent on top of this, very delicious but not just a food flavor, tuberose adds a mature vibe to it
Hugo boss deep red is seductive, sexy, delicious and versatile,it belongs to same family as cacharel amoramor and highly recommended for all fruity vanilla lovers
It’s a winter/fall perfume with very good longevity and sillage..indeed sillage is great during first hours
    It’s not unique,standout or strange,but it’s warm,sweet,and pleasant,there is always a place for it in my collection
    ❤❤❤❤

I haven’t really begun to wear it yet. I hoped I was going to love it based on the notes and based on what I’m smelling from testing it in shop, it seems like I’m going to love Deep Red. In fact, I’m already regretting that I didn’t buy it in 50ml right away, but I’ll be back for 50ml once my 30ml is up.
I wear sweet fragrances better than anyone else I know and my skin chemistry favors sweet scents, but my tastes have matured and fresh sparkly sweet, spicy/oriental, woody fragrances are my favorite when the weather’s cooler. Right now, we’ve got Indian Summer, but when I’ve had the chance to wear Deep Red for a while, I’ll update this review or write a new one.
Someone else recommended it for the 20-30 age group and I don’t necessarily disagree, but I’ll be 40 this year and I have no qualms about wearing this one!
Update: I still love it. I just wish it lasted longer and didn’t go so fast to the base note, for finally to disappear on my skin after 3-4 hours. I can live with that at this price point. I just wish the middle notes hung around a little longer. But it’s very wearable in the cooler months and I don’t mind re-applying a couple of spritzes at the end of the day. Now that the weather’s cooled down, it seems like the notes stand out clearer.

A lovely perfume. I’ve completely fallen in love with it, after only to wearings. I’m a bit of an over-sprayer, and some perfumes do me in – but not this one. I can spray away to my heart’s content, without felling any bad effects; just more delicious smells! I love it soooo much!! It’s deep and rich.
The ginger, and the cedar, and vanilla and musky notes are divine. Plus the blood orange and clementine jazzing it up, with the pear. And the beautiful soothing tuber rose, with a touch of zingy freesia…..just gorgeous. The ginger’s my favourite part of it – comforting and delicious. The sillage is heavenly, close to the body, but also easily caught by others who are near me. And it lasts so well; (the first time I wore it I didn’t spray any more on all day, to see how long it would last!, and I could still smell it it bed that night!)
Definitely a very special and favourite perfume!!

Fresh, sexy, mature, sweet, fruity, woody. The opening is fruity and citrusy with a masculine vibe. Once it settles on the skin, it smells woody, slightly floral, warm and- still some fruityness. Then the basenotes becomes more prominent, and it smells warm woods, vanilla and musk. I think the smell is very uplifting, energizing and seductive! Great sillage and longevity on me. I think this fits for people aged 20-30 🙂

One of my favourite women’s perfumes. There was once a girl called Victoria in my life who wore this. I’m not sure which I found the most intoxicating but together they were a lethal combination that left me helpless! I loved the floral-fruity opening and the way it settled down to a velvety vanilla on her. Every now and again I catch a whiff of Deep Red in the air and I still go weak at the knees for a moment as I recall Wednesday afternoons, Pet Sounds playing on the stereo, Vicky in my arms…ah yes, Deep Red and a sexy girl in heels – what a combination!

❀ This used to be my signature scent at school and one of the first high-end perfumes I ever owned! And although my likings are quite different now, I’m still in love with my memory of the “Deep Red” years!
So up to the perfume: Deed Red evokes something feminine and girly at the same time. It is not the typical vanilla or fruity perfume as notes are nicely blended together. There’s also a sparkling lift from the ginger note, which makes you feel energised.
I could describe it as bubblegummy (the Big Babol ones) but certainly not so sweet and more fruity.

  50. :

    3 out of 5

What’s deep? Certainly not the blood orange/ginger notes that are vaguely detectable.
What’s red? Good question, I do not have the answer to that (just the bottle!)
It is a rather soft scent. In my opinion, this is missing sweetness and depth (that the name suggests).
I was expecting so much more, after reading all the reviews…Very disappointed.

Perfect perfume. Absolutely perfect. The first Hugo Boss I’ve bought (blind!), and I’m completely thrilled!! Totally besotted! It’s fabulous. Very mature, sexy even! (I don’t normally think in terms of sex!) – very seductive. Beautiful. All the notes come through so well on me!! Delicious ginger and vanilla, with the fabulous citruses, and black currant, pear, the freesia, tuberose, the woods, the musk – EVERYTHING IS PERFECT! Longevity and sillage excellent. What a joy it is!!!!

This type of perfume was very popular from 2000-2005. A very sexy woodsy scent. On me it goes straight to the dry down notes of sandalwood, cedar, vanilla, and musk. Perfect for a night out or a date. My bottle is still more than half full.

  53. :

I love blood orange, it has this catnip effect on me … I want to roll around and purr. This scent reminds me of another blood orange favorite of mine, VS Dark Orchid. This is my version of a “fresh scent” I don’t like heavy citrus in my scents, green or water notes. So this is my light everyday go- to type of scent. Did I mention it’s sexy as hell? Very provocative, but suitable for everyday wear.

Another great creation from the previous decade . I came across to it today and it captured my attention although I was surrounded by many new entries. It is the perfect RED ,if you are into this combination. Vanilla Berry blended in a sexy and seductive way.

I must say, this one has really grown on me the more scents I have tried. I have reached for it disproportionally often lately. It is just the perfect intriguing combination of citrusy/fruity sensual vanilla with an accord that even reads a bit sporty fresh to me, yet it is not overly sweet, it has a serious edge. Works for daytime, works for nighttime. Works for the office, works for the gym. Love it.

I agree with the review(s) saying that this is somewhat similar to Intense by Hugo Boss, another scent from around the same era with a distinct red bottle (which just so happens to be my favorite perfume of all time). However, in comparison, Intense is actually less intense on me!
The citrus notes and floweriness of Deep Red really pack a punch, I find the stated notes to be accurate. Deep Red is more upbeat, fresher, even brash upon first spritzing it, whereas Intense is sweeter, spicier and more sensual. For this reason I wear Deep Red mostly during daytime whereas I would opt for Intense for night-/bedtime wear and having both in my collection feels far from redundant.

Seductive, velvet red and sexy, one of the best of Hugo Boss for me.Love it and i don’t think there is any woman who couldn’t wear it,smells beautiful and silky on whoever has it on,my friends all feel great with Deep Red and they are white or dark skinned.Lovely and deep as it sounds is a fragrance for all seasons so there shouldn’t be girls not liking this one.Not a difficult perfume, easy and amazing plus extra loved by the stronger gender:wink

Over the top sexy! Men will go in bed with you instantly!! Sex in a bottle!!! These are some outrageous reviews about this beautiful piece!
Anyway this perfume behaves like as if it has a strong personality of its own! I take it for that! I hate to break that complex persona into notes and names!
When I first smelled this, my lost years, memories were rushing back to my heads! It invokes those memories I hardly can remember the details but it has such strong influence deep rooted in me, sometimes in sleep i can a have a glimpse of them, then wake up and there is no words to describe it!There is only a feeling lingering for a good few hours and I refuse to talk as the chaos will blow the moment away! This gingered vanilla aroma makes me nostalgic whenever I wear this! It smells like the first perfume my father bought for me I forgot the name as I was only 6 years old back then! It just smells like all those treasured memories I keep bottled up and only relish on them when I have plenty of time to relax!
Well now come to the point, does it smell sexy to me? I do not know! Its a very complex scent that can play with my brain cells! It is a wonderful blend of vanilla and ginger. I get a plenty of mandarin and berries also, the dry down gives me very faint floral hints! Whenever I wear this my husband keeps sniffing shamelessly and finds excuses to cuddle! So, it might be sexy to the opposite sex!
And I love the bottle! Sleek, powerful, intense, a bit masculine but the intense ruby red and the slander body make it a reminiscent of an alpha lady!

Longevity is literally the only reason I don’t have this anymore, such a shame.
The scent is lovely and men really did go gaga over it.
Back in the day it got tremendous attention, it was everywhere! If you went on a night out every girl that turned up was wearing it, no exaggeration.
Nice to see it still has a following, If you’re into re spraying I highly recommend it.

Great perfume for casual wear. It’s fresh, unique and flirty but sexy…not really, at least not to my nose. The notes that stand out the most are ginger and grapefruit with a whisper of vanilla. The vanilla smells akin to dior’s HP. After a while it has a tendency to smell like you’re wearing a fragrance intended for men on top of a very feminine perfume.
    Scent – 7/10
    Longevity – 6/10
    Projection – 4/10

This one gathers compliments like no other! On me it’s a divine combination of freshness and rich smokiness.
    Seductive? Definitely. Tacky? Never.
After a couple of hours of wear the scent isn’t very strong to my own nose, but people react positively so it must be projecting. You can’t go wrong with Deep Red if it plays along with your chemistry. It’s a great all-rounder!

I love it. It feels warm. I received compliments wearing this perfume. It smells sweet, there’s vanilla …plus something very fruity. But not the blood orange, the blood orange note is minimal, but it’s there.
The sweet-fruity smell of Deep Red is comparable to the fruity notes of Siren (Paris Hilton). It’s just that Deep Red is darker and smells more complex.
    Rating: 4/5

I can’t smell citrus there. At all. It is dark, sweet and deep fragrance, suitable for winter vacation somewhere at the mountains, just you on the bear fur, fireplace, glass of sweet liquor and aura of Hugo Deep Red all around. No friends, no lovers, just you and your slow dreams…
