This is what Drakkar Noir started out as, and (by all rights) SHOULD still be.
I find, though, that it helps to stretch this one out somewhat and give it more sillage if I decant a little with high proof or SD alcohol. (That’s often the problem with a frag made for the Islamic market — the lack of alcohol of any kind can bring even a strong (even extrait level) concentration of oils and turn it into a skin scent.
Terrific buy here — I think I paid all of eight or nine bucks for this Rehab gem.

I wore Drakkar all through junior high school in the late 80s. I remember mom used to bitch at me because I went a little too heavy with the sprayer. The new formulation isn’t as horrible as everyone says but it isn’t the same. But this! It’s amazing and extremely nostalgic. Longevity and projection are beast. This may have a weird “Reverse” dated effect on younger women because maybe they’ve never smelled it but I’m 43 and have gotten compliments from early 20’s women. This is for the oil. One roll up each arm and a little to the neck and you’re good for at least 10 hrs. For the money? Do it! Don’t wait

    Get the roll on version.
    Apply it on skin.
Discover a very close cousin smell of the vintage Drakkar Noir.
Lasts around 10 hours on skin.
Sillage is strong, do not over roll.
8.5/10, and why not 9/10 if you are a DN fan.
Very very recommended as the small bottle of roll costs around 1.5 euros.
For the vintage version of Kenzo pour Homme, search for Al Rehab Secret man. Very recommended, same comments as Dakar regarding Kenzo pour homme.

smell similar to DN but but many of my colleagues perceive it much different than DN.

Husband picked up a roll on of this off of Amazon to layer with his Drakkar Noir as other reviews advised this will give the old school projection, feel, and smell of the original. He tried it out last night, and I can assure you if you want to get the beast mode back layering Dakar and Drakkar Noir will totally do the trick! I drifted off you sleep smelling his spicy oakmossyness and I noticed the sheets and shirt he slept in still retained the smell. All is not lost Gentleman! If you want to get your 80’s on I suggest you buy a $5 roll on of Dakar on Amazon and get to layering.

This is excellent – the oil form makes it light, and the scent is both smooth and strong. Has an almost naturopathic aroma to it, but very pleasant. Like an aromatic oakmoss scent.

  7. :

Drakkar Noir is among my absolute favorite men’s fragrances in its original formulation. (Oil roll-on) Dakar is a fairly close version of it, being slightly darker in overall composition, with 7+ hour longevity!
The original and current formulations of DN are a brighter green than Dakar. So for those such as myself, shooting for an even closer version of the original DN (without paying its price), you may want to give this a try: Layer one roll-on application of Dakar OVER two applications/ layers of the current formulation DN on your skin. You will end up with an amazingly similar composition to the original DN!!
But either way, Dakar is an outstanding men’s fragrance with incredible performance and value!! Give it a try. You will not be disappointed!

I agree with all the good reviews here. Marvelous stuff for a throw away price. Smells quite soapy but in a very good way. Worth a shot. Offers mass appeal

If you want the original Drakkar Noir, then buy this. Because it’s ridiculously cheap, I blind bought it for my husband after reading about how the Drakkar Noir formulation has now changed, and how this is like the original 80s formulation. I can confirm it’s 100% like the original. Fantastic buy, this is.
Box/packaging is horrendous but the scent is totally LEGIT, as the youngins say!

Dakar is great, and strong, but not in a bad way. I rolled in a few spots on my arms, and my wife came in the house and said “Wow! You smell great!” Need I say more?

Just sitting here shaking my head at how good this is. This cost me how much again? $7 US? Whaaaat???
Having only smelled the newer formulations of Drakkar Noir, this Al Rehab is absolutely stunning. HEAVY oakmoss and sage upfront, with a very prominent lemony/pine note. Underneath is predominantly cedar. I detect none of the other notes listed in the description, except for perhaps some leather in the base, which is not listed at all! If you prefer a soapier version of this with even more leather and pine, and less lemon, then you need to check out Sung Homme by Alfred Sung (also a bargain bin fragrance at around $15 US in discount stores and online).
This fragrance is unequivocally masculine (yes, I think that fragrances do fall into “genders”. there, i said it. thought that doesn’t mean women can’t pull of men’s fragrances and vice versa! if it works, then it works!)
If this is what vintage Drakkar Noir smells like, then I was clearly missing out in my youth. Performance is just nutso on this for me, lasting 12-16 hours easily, with heavy projection. I have been using the roll-on oil, so I can’t comment on the spray version, though I imagine the projection must be absolutely brutal on that one. Go easy on the swipes/sprays for this one for sure. All lovers of old-school powerhouses from the 80’s NEED to have this in the collection, especially for the crazy-low price. Truly a hidden gem.

this is drakkar noir spot on.
    very butiful.
if you like this try u2 by al rehab its not on this site but
it is on the same vain as this but classier and better
    performance.
    enjoy.

Smells very nice, kind of similar to the Drakkar Noir I know. It projects well for an hour or two, then it disappears rather quickly. I have the spray bottle, I’ve heard the roll on last longer with smaller projection.

  15. :

Yup, just got this. I have many Drakkar clones. Just like everyone is saying, it IS like vintage Drakkar, but a little sweeter. The dry down has an interestnig pine like spicyness that’s not fake and cheap smelling.
AlRehab is great for cheap blind buys. I’ve never been disappointed.
    Sillage: modest
    Longevity: medium

Al-Rehab Dakar is an inexpensive gem with real oakmoss for those of us who appreciate a classic gentleman’s fragrance; 50ml perfume spray for a Lincoln and some pocket change. Sure, it’s a clone of Drakkar Noir…but it’s damn nice copy of the original for a very small price, so what’s not to love?
While the presentation has much to be desired, the juice is seriously business. In a nutshell, Dakar smells 80% ore more similar to the original Drakkar Noir prior to oakmoss and other natural perfume ingredients being banned out of existence. Moreover, I find it to be much better than the current limp-dick reformulated version currently on the shelves.
It took me a few years to warm-up to these 80s/90s era power colognes due to may having fragrance allergies during that time (bad olfactory memories) but I am so glad to this fragrance in my Scent Armory do to Drakkar Noir being such neutered, wussified, crap these days. Cheers!

It is like Drakkar Noir, but simply much better. This is a great scent for cold nights.

  18. :

There’s a skankiness and depth in Dakar EdP that has been missing from Drakkar for a while and it’s good to smell it without having to spray from my vintage bottles. If you like Drakkar then $8 Dakar EdP should be a no brainer. Also like many have said this has monster performance 12+hrs on my skin and days on clothes.

I got the EDP. The first spray put a smile on my face. Being born in the 80s this was the scent of men during my childhood and throughout early 90s. I am not sure if all those men knew Drakkar Noir or used knock-offs which seemed to be all over the place, but most men smelled like that, it didn’t seem like there were other perfumes known to humanity at that time except something along that line. I’ve just tried it, so I cannot comment on the performance yet but I don’t care much about it on this one since I got it really cheap, and I love vintage scents for nostalgic reasons. But I’m in love with this one, it just smells great, might not be the kind of scent I wear to work, but I’m really enjoying it. It’s just fantastic.
More importantly, though, the scent draws images of men with huge thick mustaches, maybe because that was how men groomed in the eighties, but it seems this scent had something to do with it as I already feel my mustache has noticeably grown from a smooth shave into a Walrus mustache in the matter of a few minutes 😀 😀

  20. :

    5 out of 5

Yep. It smells like you expect. It is Drakkar Noir-alike. It is a grand image of old school Drakkar. I would not waste a day on the new Drakkar I smell these days. This is like the old stuff. Wearing this is like growling to let the world know you have arrived. This stuff takes no prisoners. No one will mistake your intentions when you wear this dark and handsome scent. A real masculine gem from Al-Rehab.

  21. :

    5 out of 5

I have the EDP version, cost me about £3 including postage on Amazon. I’ve never actually tried Drakkar Noir as I am 19,and indeed have no memories of the scent even, but I can say that this is a fantastic fragrance that commands a certain masculine authority that is extremely reminiscent of the unapologetic spirit of the 1980’s. I personally prefer this to more modern clubbing scents such as Abercrombie’s Fierce, and is certainly better than the 90’s clubbing fragrences such as Le Male in my opinion. I strongly recommend Dakar to both those who remember Drakkar Noir and to those who want to experience a true powerhouse for the first time.

  23. :

    4 out of 5

I agree with others on this one, its a much better, heavier, longer-lasting, and cheaper version of the original.
This one is a defo winner
I tried the original Drakkar from GL, and it was so weak and cheap smelling that I didn’t bother visitng it again, but Al Rehab Dakar is something I bought blindly and I’m happy with.
Other oils from Rehab worth trying (I already own) :
    – Aseel (rose oud), smells like a copy of black oud
    – Sultan (citrus, saffron, wood), a clone of a niche brand as reviewed by Nikhil on his youtube page (chic sheikh)
    – Moroccan rose (fresh rose)
    – Green tea (green tea and citrus)
    – Silver, clone of SMW, bit harsh at the beginning but excellent for the summer
All these from Rehab are a must try for the price they offer. I am confident that NONE of these contains a drop of natural oils, they are all synthetic, but so are the designer and many niche perfumes out there.

5 dollars…..beast mode, longevity a full day. Nuff said
Why the hell pay retail for all the watered down stuff out there now?
    Thank you Dakar

Very beasty at first, very – but as I/it find its form wood notes spices emerges and it becomes rather plesant. It’s to ‘strong’ for my taste, but I’m certain that it will fit fine to others. Very Maskuline!

  26. :

This is the Drakkar that I remember; say what you will about Al Rehab fragrances but they deliver! This baby is hyper-masculine and it should come with Ray-Bans and an 8 ball, straight 80s style! Beast mode longevity and excellent sillage, sandlewood spiked oakmoss with a dash of spice and cedar because why not?!

  27. :

    3 out of 5

Review based on the EDP. Ultra-masculine, old-school, “aftershave” kind of smell. An intense citrusy, bergamot/citronella opening that reminds me of the outdoor candles used to ward off mosquitos at night. It has a sort of smoky, spicy undertone too. I get oakmoss, which I love, and this soapiness combined with the citrus is like a bar of lemon soap. In fact I’d wear it just for the oakmoss note alone. Don’t get me wrong, in spite of the unsophisticated description I like it a lot, it’s a retro, masculine, in-your-face scent that makes no apologies.
My opinion on the Drakkar Noir comparison? I can understand the association: DN is a barbershop, retro scent too but is much smoother due to the leather element and heavier on lavender. I would say DN is a superior scent to this.
But, Dakar is insanely cheap and excellent value for money if you like the old-school, virile vibe. Longevity about 4 hours. Sillage: it goes a long way!
I wore it tonight out on the town for a few drinks, a cold autumn night, with other male work colleagues, and I think that’s the best environment for it: masculine, clean, uncomplicated, unapologetic, a little loud but still just about under control, a little rough around the edges, confident. I enjoyed it.

Smells very green, herbal, and cooling like eucalyptus or tiger balm. It’s like the smell of old fashioned asian hair pomade on your hair radiating from all the sweating after a good game of football. I get 3 hours of monster projection and then stays a skin scent until the rest of the day. Doesn’t completely go away, ever, because it’s an oil, not alcohol. I’d like to add that it smells very thick & heavy because it’s an oil. Slithers in the air slowly and can travel more than 5 meters from a light breeze or if you’re walking. Be careful wearing this in air conditioned environments, can easily fill a room.

I bought this blind on a forum recommendation. It’s a lovely, lovely fragrance – green, herbal, woodsy and retro-nostalgic but in a good way. As others have commented, a little goes a long way. For the £2 cost of the oil it’s a no-brainer.

NO……This IS the Drakkar Noir of OLD!!! As some below have said its not the same Scent…and they are correct The Drakkar manufactured Today is Not the same scent…its A shallow cheap chemical mess put out for profit fades on your skin in 5 minutes Rip off…..I wore Drakkar as A staple until they Neutered it!!! I have the Spray version not the above shown roll on oil..It is absolutely amazing to smell the Powerhouse of old again.. I love this Company Al Rehab Perfumes.. Super low cost and Extremely high Quality… Superman by this House is Amazing.. A Must try!
As for Dakar 10/10 … Love it… I Finally got my Drakkar Noir back.. but goes by the Name DAKAR…….

Dakar (both oil and EDT versions) by Al-Rehab is a nostalgic trip back to the powerhouse masculine fragrances of yesteryear.
Strikes a balance between green and earthy, but be aware, this is powerful stuff. Apply sparingly or it can be overbearing. Definitely not for the warmer weather.
As with most Al-Rehab scents, the cost=use ratio is incredible, the 6ml oil can be bought for as low as £2 delivered and will last ages.
    Impressive 🙂

  33. :

I get the comparisons to Drakkar Noir, however they are not the same scent. When comparing the new Drakkar to Dakar the Drakkar has an overall brighter vibe with more lemon verbena, lavender, lemon, and mint. Once Drakkar dries down then the similarities start to show. I get a very green resinous vibe from broth scents with the fir balsam and woodiness of sandalwood. I get less leather in Dakar then Drakkar. Which do I prefer? I prefer Drakkar Noir for overall scent. Performance I would say the two are on par. I paid $8 for Dakar 50ml spray whereas Drakkar can be had for $15-30 so honestly price isn’t that big of a factor here. Go for what you like, perhaps I will go for the original once I am done with this bottle.

Wery manly and good 8 of 10

  38. :

    5 out of 5

Hands down the best knockoff of Drakkar Noir, period, and I’ve smelled a lot of them. If you’re one of those guys who thinks Drakkar’s reformulation is too weak, then this is for you.
Dakar smells almost exactly as I remember Drakkar Noir back in the 80s, only the leather in Dakar is not quite as dominant; it’s better blended in with all the herbal green notes in Dakar.
This is a powerhouse without a doubt, and one of the strongest I own. Ballsy and loud, Dakar by Al-Rehab is a fragrance I do not recommend applying more than a drop or two. Seriously. Use more than two drops, and you’ll be literally gagging all day, it’s that strong. Sillage is ferocious and longevity exceeds 24 hours on skin.

  39. :

Blind bought this one, reminds me of swiss Arabian edge, which is cardamom based. Dakar is a very good frag with descent longevity and monstrous sillage. Very manly, very Arabian, very confident… Strictly for cold weather, I can’t imagine wearing this even in spring. It cuts through the cold air and grabs the attention of everyone around you. I didn’t try it in hot weather but I think it would suffocating to you and people around you…

  40. :

Doing a side by side with the current Drakkar and I have to say this is more manly. Manly in the “I’m in charge here” kind of way. romansandals mentioned a cigarette ashes smell I got that too but after about 15 minutes it went away replaced by a soapy smell. I’m going out on a limb here and saying this smell reminds me of military buildings. My father was in the army and every time you go inside some place it had the same smell. Like the army has a cleaner or disinfectant that they use everywhere. I don’t know what it was called but it smelled a lot like this.

  41. :

    5 out of 5

Somehow this reminds me of aftershave, but not in a bad way, probably the best aftershave I’ve smelled.
Very green woody and fresh, I can’t see wearing this in winter but spring and autumn would be perfect.
The scent to me is somehow a little mature, very masculine.
Really lovely fragrance oil but personally I don’t like it on me.

  42. :

    4 out of 5

    Drakkar Noir on Steroids?
    Nah, that would be disrespectful.
It’s a “less mess, let’s get straight to the point!”. And the point is a wonderfully balanced formula, in my opinion: and I *hate* sage alone (as I *hate* patchouli and its predominance in a perfume formulation, beware!) but… this is a pure, crystalline masterpiece of balance and harmony. I take my hat off, sincerely.

  43. :

    3 out of 5

A very nice and androgenic scent. Strong and sharp at first, but the dry down is a clean woody aftershave smell. Incidentally, I like the application more than the dry down. Cheap but the scent+longevity+silage is what makes al rehab oils precious. It reminds me of Burberry touch for women, not that Dakar smells feminine – many do consider Burberry touch pour femme as overly masculine and too woody, but I love wearing it. Reminds me of what my mother used to wear.

Just obtained another 88 vintage dn tall bottle & the drakar oil is better after the drydown than all formulas ofthe original ive owned. Original has a fresh minty opening similar to rive gauche but with more pine . Ive bought 3 80’s bottles recently & 1 2015 & theres no big difference. I am an oakmoss junkie & there is not much difference
Back to the drakar oil – superb , just let the ol absorb & the rest is bliss

FolIow on from below .. have also just purchased a2015 batch 200ml drakkar noir to compare with my old vintage cosmair bottle & this . Tbh the vintage drakkar is not much different from the new formula. May be a little mossier , but no stronger & longevity very similar , maybe the vintage gas lost it’s oomph with age ??? Both layer very well with the dakar oil . This stuff is super spicy & has a nice cool fresh mint beneath the spice which works really well in summer

I recently ordered a handful of the Al-Rehab fragrances, having seen them repeatedly cited as exceptional values. I’m inclined to agree with that sentiment – while they are clearly dupes of more expensive and/or more well-known fragrances, most of the Al-Rehab fragrances are surprisingly good given the ridiculously modest prices.
Among the half dozen I’ve tried, Dakar is probably the best. As the name clearly suggests, this one is a near clone of Drakkar Noir. Funny thing – Al Rehab Dakar is actually closer to the Drakkar of my youth (1980s vintage) than the current formulation of Drakkar itself. Whereas the current formulation of Drakkar Noir seems overly sharp and synthetic, the al-rehab version still retains the spicy green aura that I seem to remember in the vintage Drakkar. Perhaps my scent memory isn’t entirely accurate, but I think that lovers of the vintage Drakkar Noir would really enjoy Dakar.
Even for those not searching for a Drakkar Noir alternative, this fragrance is worth a look. It straddles the line between a dark aromatic fougere and a spicy green chypre. Classic and rugged all at once. At about $6-$8 a bottle, it’s tough to complain!

Bought my 1st drakkar noir in over 20 years from the bay & it’s the old taller cosmair vintage. I love it . Clean & soapy like rive gauche but spicier . Dakar oil is more SPICEY again & a lot less soapy. Very very happy with it & I love the clearly Arabic spicyness. Very good quality & 2x 6ml for £4

Al-Rehab Dakar is reminiscent of the old Drakkar Noir. To me it is similar to the original Drakkar scent with a soapy note. For $3 a roll on tube, and $5 total shipped to your house I don’t think you can beat it. This thing just keeps playing the music on and on. I prefer the oil scents to the sprays for just about all of the Al-Rehab scents. If you want to have $5-$6 worth of fun and try something that will transport your mind back in time 30 years, then have some courage and make the move. I am enjoying Dakar. I haven’t tried the spray but I’ve read the spray has a metallic top note which doesn’t surprise me because I’ve read that about several of the spray based scents from AR. I was apprehensive about trying my first AR oil based scent because I thought it was going to turn me into a piece of greasy fried chicken or something but honestly, after rubbing it in during the initial application, there is no sign of oiliness on my skin. Do not fear. Face the roll-on! All of that being said, so far Silver is the best scent I’ve tried from this house.

Being a big fan of DN, I had high hopes for this one. Was I disappointed? Not completely… just slightly. Although the overall spirit of DN is captured in this very affordable Al-Rehab dupe, it develops a bit of a cigarette-ashes note after about an hour on my skin. Fortunately, that note does fade away after 3 hours or so as the fragrance lives on. Not a bad purchase, but not sure if I would go for it again.

  53. :

I have been trying a few Al Rehab fragrances and this is definitely my favourite.
This really has to be the best value for money fragrance I have ever used. Super scent that lasts and lasts. The sillage is at a good moderate level on me…. not beastly
This starts off spicy and softens slightly as it gets creamy and soapy. It never loses its masculine edge and maintains a dark woody background.
    Scent : 18/20
    Longevity : 8/10
    Projection : 6/10
Total : 8/10 … Big Bang for Buck.

I bought this last year to replace the new formulation of drakar noir, but I found I wasn’t reaching for it enough as with most al rehab frags, it has a very metallic top that I don’t really care for.
Anyway yesterday I decided to give it another go, but this time I didn’t spay my clothes, and wow,,it was much better. The metallic top disappeared within an hour and it soon started to really take on the characteristics of drakar,,really getting creamy and smooth as it dried down, with a lovely amber base..
I’m looking really forward to the fall and winter now so I can give this some wearing. Well done Mr rehab..
    Remember, don’t spray your clothes..

I remember smelling the Drakkar Noir on my older (playboy kind of) cousin in late 80s or early 90s when Drakkar was a buzz word. That smell became a permanent part of my memory as I was really impressed by the fragrance itself and by my cousin as an aspiring kid 🙂
Years later, When I started appreciating fragrances, I never went near to DN as the idea of reformulating a classic is deeply hurting to me. But when I came across with Al Rehab’s Dakar, I was transported back to that moment. This really is like old DN, though not as sophisticated & refined and long lasting as old DN. In fact, this Dakar is quite soapy but a wonderful clone and an amazing value for money.
I know I am going to enjoy this winter as I have few amazing fragrances that will shine in cold weather. I am sure that Dakar’s performance will improve further in cold nights, which is not too bad even now during summer (1-2 hours of fairly good projection and 3-4 hours of lasting).
    Highly recommended.

No oud here… but lots of Drakkar Noir! I’m getting musk-orris-sandalwood-oakmoss in the signature base. Yes, I agree: this dupe is much better than DN’s current formulation- closer to the original.

My first Al-Rehab and I’m very impressed. I purchased Dakar, Silver and Sultan. Yes all the comparisons to DN here are correct. On me, I get a bit of musk in the dry down. Can’t wait to try the other Al-Rehabs. Dakar is a safe blind buy, give it a try.

I will agree with the posts below…
What I have ordered from Al-Rehab I like this Dakar and Silver the best. Most of the Al-Rehab scents that I have smelled are very Middle Eastern feel to them… these are what I would call more of an Western Scent or knock offs… Knocks offs are not always bad if they are done right!
As for Dakar, yes it definitely smells like Drakkar Noir! With some extra Oud in the base. but not as sharp as Caesars Man. A Simple refreshing piney scent just like the 80’s power house we all remember. This is a scent that I have been looking for… I remember Christmas time at my Grandmothers and the smell of Pine candles burning somewhere in the house… In the search of a pleasant pine scent that brings to me memories of my past, this hits the mark!
Longevity is O.K.- for about 2 hrs like a Christmas candle then it softens slightly darker to a pleasant smell of the spices and woods coming forth that goes for about 2-3 hrs more. After the 5-6 hour point it softens so much that it is really close to the skin, to my nose… My wife can still smell it on me for a few more hours after that. I think my nose just gets use to the scent. With that said 5-7 hours for a great scent for just under $4
You do have to be careful with these Al-Rehab roll-on perfumes at first cuz they go on very heavy. Just a nickle size blob and rub it in on your pulse points. Remember a little goes a long way or you’ll be trying to wash it off!

Not as good as the original Drakkar Noir, but much better than the tamed down watery current formulation. Like others have said it’s not quite as sharp as DN and it has a slightly soft soapy edge to it. Well worth the $4 I paid for it.

    I agree with Michel.ca.
This is a fresh but slightly dark, gently spicy, quite soapy masculine scent.
Pretty much a dead ringer for Drakkar Noir (DN).
I’ve got the roll-on perfume oil and it outlasts the current version of DN by a distance. You can tell the difference, but there is not much to choose between them. Dakar is maybe a bit “sharper” and less “soft.”
I like DN and I’ll be buying Dakar again.

smells like Drakkar Noir but Longevity and silage is 10 times better , one of the best blind buy that i’ve done and cost only 5 dollars .

Reminds me of Draker Noir – very strong masculine sharp smelling.
