Description

Cuirelle by Ramon Monegal is a Leather fragrance for women and men. The nose behind this fragrance is Ramon Monegal. The fragrance features olibanum, indonesian patchouli leaf, bourbon vetiver, virginian cedar, cinnamon and beeswax.

“Strength and texture. Not the essence of leather, but an interpretation of it. Cat-like flexibility and musk sublimated with shades of honey and incense and balanced with green Cedar and Vetyver grass.” Cuirelle was launched in 2010.

A really interesting fragrance in that it progresses nicely with three distinct phases. Firstly it’s a heavy, tobacco and honey/beeswax of something like Chergui or Back to Black. Then it becomes a almost powder like slightly floral version of that honey thing, finally retreating completely to a totally soft leather incense smell. I didn’t find it very mind blowing, I do like the way it transitions and as someone who isn’t a fan of honey or beeswax this has just the right balance. I wasn’t convinced by it, longevity and sillage weren’t there for the price point. The concept and quality are clearly there but it doesn’t deliver performance and that is critical here. Chergui doesn’t change as much as this one and has that hay note and arguably a stronger honey note however that lasts. Shame, I’m beeen meaning to sample Ramon’s work but perhaps this wasn’t the best one to start with.

I really, really liked this offering from Ramon Monegal however I seem to be one of the unfortunate few for whom this has practically no longevity – it’s gone in about 30 minutes. My skin obviously just devours it. 🙁 Therefore my advice would be – try before you buy and make sure you are happy with the performance as it’s not cheap.

Yes! I’m in love!! Got a few extra samples with my purchase of Xerjoff Ivory route…this was one. On skin, I’m getting a ultra niche version of Carolina ch men. Like a sweet leather and wood that’s just amazing. If this stuff doesn’t take a bad turn, which I highly doubt that it’s in its dry down stage, I will have to get a bottle. This is just a first impression, but when you know, you just know. It’s amazing 🙂 I really want to try more from this house..the quality of the juice is just amazing!!!!

    Modern-abstract.
I really like this fragrance. It is just beautiful, somewhat non descriptive and very well blended. It feels super smooth, soft, aromatic. It is a little waxy, floral, little clean leather-like. Overall, it does feel very clean and fresh, no dirty patchouli here. If you are into minimalist fragrances, give this a try. Really good!

Goodness, such varied reviews for this one!! I feel compelled to add my 2 cents due to the confusion 😉
1st of all I had a very difficult time smelling it when I wore it. I thought it was too subtle; I knew it was THERE, but somehow it was difficult to say what I was detecting. Maybe you go anosmic to it quickly when you wear it? I can only imagine that this accounts for people’s reviews comparing it to a lotion etc. because trust me, everyone AROUND you can smell it even if you can’t!
Anyway I sprayed 1 spray on my bf to observe it from a distance. Wow, there it is! The sillage is actually pretty heavy, I can’t imagine using more than 1 spray after smelling how intense it was on him. Longevity was easily 6+ hrs.
About the notes: i detect an almost boozy amber & cinnamon scent w/ a touch of honey. I also get the peppery/woody/spicy cedar & vetiver notes once the boozy warm top notes mellow out a bit.
It is a very interesting scent but NOT what I was expecting. This is in no way a leather, so in that (& only that) I was disappointed. If it had been categorized as a super-smooth, boozy-sweet amber w/ lush honey tones I over a wood/pepper base feel I would’ve been better prepared for it 😉 also @suzrwin: ‘silky’ is a good word for it, I can see that description.
    Sillage: great! (4ish ft)
Longevity: very good (6hrs+ @1 spray)
    Truly unisex to me

this perfume smells like a lotion, hand cream or body lotion. to be specific a moisturizer for men. it’s good actually, i truly sense beeswax, but still it smells like a lotion, i’d go for the “vaseline total moisture cocoa glow” lotion although i have no idea how does that vaseline smell but i feel is that color and that lotion & name fits this perfume perfectly.
i guess if i give it more time i’ll like it more & to be honest it’s a bit over priced! 180$+ for 50ml of this perfume!
(edit 1st Aug 2014), after plenty of tests, i guess i sense now the charm it brings, the beeswax give that soft essence to the leathery accord that is mixed with a flowery creamy combination. quite soft flowery creamy leather. im getting one.
*Use this in bed when you are with someone 😉

On me this one has a quiet projection and a slow burn. It’s pretty but I wish the volume was amplified.

I am captivated by Cuirelle. I received a sample as part of Olfactif’s November ’13 “Leather” collection, and let me just say, for the first time, there is nary a dud in the bunch.
Cuirelle opens with a fleeting (and frightening)blast of incense that lasts, thankfully, mere moments. From there, the incense is joined by balanced touches of bourbon, very light patchouli, a tamed olibanum, and just a mere hint of cedar. It is not like the cedarbomb Tzora, which left me feeling like a lumberjack. Later, the hint of cinnamon and slightly sweet beeswax, joined peeps through. The leather
Typically, I don’t care for boozy or sweetish scents, often finding them overwhelming and cloying. However, Cuirelle avoids this trap, and while it does have a brief mid-wear impression of feeling “perfumish”, the bourbon vetiver blends with the other woodsy notes to give a silky suede impression, which is why, I suppose Olfactif lists this one in their leather collection, despite the fact that leather really isn’t listed as a scent note.
This is a true unisex scent–on me it feels feminine without being flowery. I could see it playing equally nicely on men, and would love to try it out on my husband to see what it does on him.
    Very much a thumb’s up.

Beautiful powdery, balmy and sweet olibanum opening, with a hint of beeswax lingering in the background. Fainter incense notes are perceptible, but this is definitely not an incense bomb (see Amouage if that is your forte). Patchouli and vetiver bring earthiness and ground the fragrance. Unfortunately, I do not detect the cedar note which is stated to be included. Unsure where the reference to leather comes from in this fragrance, as it smells nothing of leather to me. Nonetheless, this is definitely a unique cologne. (57)

Sweet Tarts candy in the opening, settling into a very transparent, mechanical-smelling leather. Something in the background smells very faintly of someone who just belched after drinking gingerale. My feelings about this one are neutral.

At first, i thought that this would go on sweet chypre lands, but then after the opening it turns into a leathery aroma extracted from the patchouli impression. Something on it reminds me of the leathery impression of patchoulis like Armani Prive Cuir Amethiste and Tom Ford Purple Patchouli, but here the synthetic nasty side that i get on both doesn’t show up. The honey on it is not exactly honey for me, and more of beeswax, and this note is also somehow similar to another Tom Ford, Moss Breches, but here without the mossy aspect and the vintage-like aura of MB drydown. The drydown is very woody, dry, with an almost dry-peppery like impression. So far, from the 5 Ramons I mentioned, this is the best (or the least worst). It doesn’t seem new, but at least does seem well worked from the beginning until the drydown.

Wow! A crown jewel in my collection. Subtle yet noticeable; a very unique scent.

Was given a little sample of this at Neiman Marcus when I purchased Cherry Musk. The initial 5 minutes were plesant as it had a very light leather aroma. Imagine Tom Ford’s Tuscan Leather little brother but without all the sweetness of Tuscan Leather. After 5 minutes, I could barely smell anything. It dries down to a very weak gourmandish honey/cinnamon combo. Disappointed as it was not for me.

This is such a beautiful scent. It smells almost floral even though there are no floral notes listed. Masterfully blended, it creates the illusion of leather in a clever way. It is long lasting with mild sillage. The more times I try this the more I love it. It is such a pleasure to spray on this scent in the fall and be re-introduced to its beauty.

Well this opens with a soft spicy light haze of honey and incense. I can smell the patchouli and the woods that have been lightly mixed in with the honey and incense. This is followed by cinnamon and it’s starting to remind me of the icing on a fancy cake.
Also I know it’s not listed but I swear I can smell violet in the mix.
To sum up a lovely soft spicy haze of sugary honey and incense with hints of what smells like violet. Nice!

Cuirelle: Notes include honey, Somalian incense, Indonesian patchouli, Bourbon vetiver, green cedarwood, musk, cinnamon and extract of beeswax.
A honey scent that works on me! Hallelujah! Honey can go so wrong on me (like Miel de Bois) or it can be love (like Back to Black). Cuirelle is a honey scent that evokes an illusion of leather, sweet leather. Woody and spicy notes combine to create a leather drenched in golden honey. A true beauty!
