A very intensive, unique perfume indeed! I have never tried something like this before.
Very, very leathery in a way that does not compare to anything in today’s perfume market.
Also laurel leaves are there robustly, accompanied by amber and woody notes.
As time passes, instead of becoming fade, it offers more honeyed notes to my nose, with patchouli making its absolute appearance, as well as some resinous and flowery tones.
A peculiar perfume, definitely masculine, not for everyone. Only for the daring, mature, old school men!

This one… This one is hot. It just radiates heat. Nothing comparable to modern leather honey scents.
It smells very natural to me like in a dry sauna made of birch tree, where you drink a herbal tea (mainly thyme and melissa) sweetened up with a good dose of white summer honey that you brought in a new leather bag.
Next to this Polo Supreme Leather smells artificially and the honey note in it comes more like a generic supermarket honey syrup than a real honey from a farmer.
    Amasing scent!

I’ve been hankering after this for a few years now. Just by chance saw it half price in my local excellent perfume shop in Truro. It’s so warm and honeyed and leathery without managaging to be overly sweet. The other honey perfume I’m familiar with is one by By Killian and Piver Cuir is much less in your face honey wee than that. I was wearing shalimar initial de l’eau but couldn’t wait to try this out and the two are working together beautifully! It softens and mellows beautifully I love this perfume.

Happy blind buy. Usually citrus turns unpleasantly dish detergent sharp on me, but this is somehow mild, pleasant and natural smelling. Honey, leather- it all comes together as something as unusual as a fresh honey composition. Not too sweet, not too sharp, I’m very impressed!
Must admit it was the cute label that drew me in…

Fragrance Review For Cuir De Russie
    L.T. Piver
    Top Notes
Bergamot Mandarin Orange Honey Pepper Cardamom Styrax
    Middle Notes
Neroli Laurels Leather Patchouli Cinnamon Cedar Wood
    Base Notes
Olibanum Labdanum Sandalwood Oak Moss Amber Musk
This is one of the other Cuir de Russies or Russian Leather colognes. The more well known frags include Chanel’s Cuir and Guerlain’s Cuir. Guerlain’s predates the others. This fragrance was released in 1939. For me this was as much a leather as it was an Oriental. Quite frankly there is a unisex side to this scent. I enjoy the honey and spices, the olibanum/incense, sandalwood and amber. These are notes that I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing time and again in women’s perfumes. This is a very beautiful leathery-honey-woodsy-incense. It has a religious air, like something a Russian Catholic Orthodox priest would wear. It does not take me to the Steppes of Russia on horseback with a Cossack, nor does it smell too pastoral. It’s a good incense.
At first, you get a peppery smell, mingling with styrax. This is a very unusual and dark opening. It smells earthy and spicy. The only sweet aroma that comes out of it is the honey and mandarin orange. When you smell that honeyed orange, you’re also getting amber. It’s golden in color, and warm. It’s a fragrance to wear with fur coats, not leather. Also because of the olibanum and incense, it once again evokes the winter time. For me this is a scent of a Russian cottage in the middle of winter.
Spices, cinnamon, honey, it evokes the interior of a cottage. I can smell the spices on the spice rack, the honey and tea, and the cinnamon. It’s almost like the smell of all these things by a fireplace or kitchen. The spiciness leads into the more herbal aromatic greenery of patchouli leaves and oak moss. For me the fact that this fragrance has more notes and it’s not all about the Russian leather makes it better than any of the other Cuir de Russies. I love the sandalwood, the oak moss, the amber, honey, orange and cinnamon. Because it’s an old frag, it’s quite strong and long lasting. One spritz on the right pulse point is enough. It is unisex not masculine although it’s still a man’s cologne. The man that wears this would have to have experience wearing the other notes involved: olibanum, oak moss, amber, honey and cinnamon. This is a full bodied rich and powerful scent with a lot of complexity and at the same time feels intimate and cozy like the inside of a log cabin.

An excellent perfume, even in the reformulated offer. A classic bottle with a permisive spray. Leather and honey, with a touch of birch. It smells as history – eight decades since it’s first presence on a man skin… And still so young – nothing dated, nothing out of the contemporary style.
Very, very longevive for an eau de toillete. Full of depth for at least five hours… what else a true parfumista will need to know?
Nothing old, in that perfume – it’s all French, since the finest hours of the French perfumery.
For those who love Azzaro pour homme, Guerlain’s Heritage, Artisan Parfumeur’s Timbuktu and the likes.
A deserved 9+/10 în my opinion.

Honey & warm sweet Leather… gorgeous!!L.T. Piver is a very old French perfume house comparable to Guerlain in that it served the Royalty of France in the 18th & 19th Centuries.
The perfume Cuir was inspired by the French fascination with all things coming from Russia and the East, this included the smell of “Russian Leather” or “Cuir de Russie” made famous by Chanel and previously Guerlain. This is the smell of “Cossack” boots, which were meant for horseback riding, and in which birch tar was used to give the leather a less “animalic” smell.
This is such a beauty for me because it has an unusual combination of honey & leather, followed by warm spices, oakmoss, amber, woods and resins… what more could you ask for? In fact, every time I spray this it makes me smile! Such a warm and happy vibe!
The honey note is done very tastefully and is sweet but also dark and spicy at the same time. The whole fragrance actually reminds me of hot black tea with honey and spices… as I sometimes drink tea without milk and just with cloves and cinnamon, and sweetened with either sugar or honey! I can imagine a scene in old Russia of a noble soldier who is returning home after a long journey with his horse tired from riding many dangerous miles through forest and snow… he reaches a typical wooden house not far from the forest which is warm and has a fire… and on the fire there is hot tea waiting ready for him, and maybe some meat, bread and honey for him to eat after his long and exhausting journey. It is the smell of warm, genuine hospitality and human comfort against the bitter cold of nature outside. To me this is the perfect winter fragrance but could be worn on formal occasions at other times of the year.
The whole fragrance has a “refined” and “classic” quality which is good for many different occasions. I’m grateful to the person who allowed me to sample this because without it I probably wouldn’t have discovered this perfume house on my own! I’m very grateful to them!
I’m recommending this one to all who love the smell of warm, winter spices and honey, with a touch of leather. I’m very impressed by this creation from L.T. Piver., and will try more from them in future… well done!

I went for the big bottle and box on ebay a number of years ago on ebay. I couldn’t help it, all I could think of with the picture on the box was Stravinsky and Petrouchka (enticing images for this ballet-lover!). However, I did sell it again, as not only was this real leather, which I cannot wear well, it was a rather dry and masculine-smelling one to me. I would say it is more masculine than the Chanel Cuir de Russie, which I owned at one time in a small bottle.

Bought this blindly. Did not know exactly what to expect but I’m utterly pleased with it. It’s very honey sweet in the beginning throughout the drydown, but not sickenigly sweet, nothing in the league of the comtemporary candy-sweet scents of today.
It becomes part of your skin and little by little the leather, the smoke (yes, I do detect some smoke, a very soft, pleasing one and I am a no smoker), the woods and the spices come from behind.
It’s a very sexy, warm scent without being overpowering or too loud. My son says it “smells of mum” and this is a compliment I usually get when a scent becomes me.
It has a good lasting power but do not expect it to be perceived at a distance.
And do not expect to be a leather scent in the league of Cabochard, Knize Ten, or Bandit, it’s much softer, much sweeter, I would dare to say much sexy but in a familiar way.
Unisex? Yes, definitely so, but for its maternal sweetness I think this is more apt for a lady.
    Stunning. Worth a try.

Even though it is now called just Cuir it is still very “Russian” fragrance by its spirit. Someone already mention – it is boozy from first spray, – like leather plus honey plus spruce. Very lively scent, like “Lets dance” and ride our bears, lol. It made me smile.
Very unisex to me, I will wear it this winter if not every day – then pretty often. Atmospheric, unusual, quality one.
Overall – classic, with balanced bergamot note, and good mood perfume, worth to have in wardrobe for office parties)

I was looking to add to my wardrobe of leathery frags and thought this will be a nice addition.I am not really a super fan of leather as I find them not versatile enough for me.with that in mind I picked this out of all the L.T. Piver scents to be my first try from this house.
I have got to agree with the previous reviewer that the spices and honey are very prominent here.you get a blast of this blend in the nostrils on first spray.I actually find it very boozy at this point but it’s not off-putting at all.you pull back but at the same time you know you want more so you press again and again taking it all in.you wonder where and when this will live up to its classification and I must admit I find it hard to detect leather here which incidentally should be what this is all about. It keeps its citrusy-fruity-spicy-nutty(from the unlisted Hawthorns) combo going for a while.with time the sharpness fades along with the projection as the scent becomes a very close-to-skin scent and on my skin this is after the 6 hour mark.for that reason I will not regard this as long lasting.but anyway that depends on ones skin and amount of spray.I dont do more than 3 sprays on any fragrance anyway to avoid offence.
Given its nature I will consider this as woody spicy and advice if anyone is looking to this for a leather frag then please look elsewhere.you will however be rewarded with some sweet, woody and spicy fragrance which is totally suitable for fall and winter.you can cosy up to bed with this, very addictive too.
I cannot tell what the original smelled like as this has been adapted to meet current market trends so if anyone has the vintage bottle they can share with us how it differs from this.my guess is from the point of view of leather it will be the same but I may be wrong here.you will get complimented when you wear this and will fit a mature man perfectly.
the packaging is exquisite, bottle beautiful even if its not the most original you will have seen.
the only other fragrance that comes to mind when I wear this is Burberry London Special Edition for men 2008.
I was disappointed with this at first but wound up with a treasure.talk of serendipity!!!
