This green, woody, melon creation from the house of Chanel is easily my favorite. Although it isn’t as aldehyaic as other Chanel fragrances, the silage is awesome whether it is cold, wrapped in a cashmere blanket or throw or on a warm summer night seducing everyone that encounters this fragrance.. One will definitely stand out so only wear if you’re prepared to be noticed.
fkfk777 – :
I’ve never been able to get quite behind this one. The vetiver and oakmoss seem to me to be overdone. They weigh the thing down, making it rather leaden. I’d love to smell it on someone who can make it work better than me, I’m sure it’s amazing!
sanya.432306 – :
The absolute most underrated perfume from the house of Chanel. What an incredible juicy and fruity chypre. That combination with oakmoss and vetiver is freaking incredible.I love the original EDT, but this one is to die for.
Xeroxopbqq – :
I must agree that this one wins for me over eau de toilette. I´ve tried both in a shop and eau de parfum got my heart. I think it is more sensual, better balanced an very sexi. It is like improved version of eau de toilette. I don´t like sweet and fresh fragrances but this is really good in a different way ( I think it is thank to oakmoss and vetiver ) than modern easy-going scents and the longevity is also much better than eau de toilette. So for me it is definitely yes for hot summer days.
brokoalen – :
Is it blasphemous for me to declare this wins over the crispier and sunnier eau de toilette? For so much I find the 70s releases as overbearing with hyacinth that it begins to become too heady. If I would smell the edt and edp from separate blotters, I would think that the edp would be Roudnitska’s for the edp contains that rotten fruit delight and overly salty lemon and basil combination he so-loved that gives off this somewhat decomposing nuance.
I find Cristalle EDP very serious and more full-bodied than its predecessor. The addition of cumin and civet, to foil that “Vietnamese beef salad” as Tania Sanchez so described, is such a genius. Cristalle EDP is a burst of art, from the moment it is sprayed all the way to its drydown, it’s all joyous appreciation. This would always be one of my favorite chypres.
bezil22 – :
This was once my favorite but when it was becoming harder to find in stores I had to search out a new favorite.
This is very classy, high end and I snagged my husband by walking past him because of this parfum. He’s quite a perfume snob and it’s been difficult to find a replacement. We’ve selected a completely different type of scent (Givenchy Dahlia Divin Le’Nectar) as my signature.
I believe it was the oak moss that matched up well with my body chemistry.
markerfish547 – :
I like this EDP better than the EDT, as the EDT is too austere for me. The EDP is slightly sweeter and softer. I usually don’t like sweet scents but this is balanced so beautifully with the green.
The EDP opens up quite strong but then settles in a beautiful earthy scent.
I have never been into Chanel fragrances but this one is by far the best I’ve come across. I bought it right on the spot and have not regretted it. It’s become my go to scent for a night out, a scent that makes me feel confident/womanly.
crasher11 – :
One of the most utterly wonderful female fragrances. The best one from Chanel.
kingstondt – :
I posted this somewhere else earlier:
My judgement is that the initial blast smells very heavily citrusy to me. It is a bit too much and resembles citrus-scented cleaning products. After that, however, a lovely blend presents itself of flowers and plants, in a feminine, lovely but not at all sweet way. It is chique and a bit harsh. I dressed up a bit nicer and put on some lipstick when I left the door, since I felt like the “me” without lipstick could not handle this perfume. (I think it is a good thing that it motivated me to do this!) The dry down is wonderful and has that slightly creamy loveliness that most Chanel’s have. It is chique, powerful, an ice queen, an adventurous nature lover. No diva, but I don’t like diva scents so that’s good.
This perfume does the magic thing of making me feel confident, powerful and professional, more mature. It also has a very modernist feeling about it (I am wearing a black/white geometric outfit with chunky silver jewellery and it fits perfectly).
asdfgh1 – :
Estee Lauder Private Collection Jasmin White Moss.
Exactly the same perfume. Jasmin White Moss is slightly softer; true to Estee, Cristalle is somewhat sharper; true to Chanel.
Jasmin + Oakmoss + Feminine Vetiver
rozen – :
This is an absolutely stunning perfume! Probably my favourite summer perfume of all time. Just gorgeous.
Cristalle takes you to a beach and you are laying there suntanning with either your girlfriends or a scandalous lover. There’s some sea grass being blown about in the wind, and the aroma of hot grass is wafting your way intoxicating your nose with the smell of photosynthesis and pheromones.
When Fine Fragrances have the ability to take you to an exact place, or extract a fantasy, then it is in your best interest to invest.
I am almost done with my 100 ml EDP and I definitely see myself purchasing another bottle. I could not be more enthused about a perfume.
gerkules – :
Cristalle EDP is very old school green in the beginning. I don’t like it that much, it smells like it’s older than from the 90s, and I often don’t enjoy the top notes of old scents.
But it developes to something nicer soon. It’s green and fresh in a sparkling way and has that typical Chanel thing about it. And it’s quite intense and interesting for such a fresh scent.
I wouldn’t have guessed this has a melon note, but it makes sense. It’s an opaque, only slightly sweet fruitiness on top of the sparkling and the mossy, foresty notes. The florals only round the scent in the background.
The drydown is green and mossy with some florals.
Unfortunately, the second time I tried this I detected lily of the valley. It isn’t listed on here, but on other sites it is. LotV is my arch nemesis note, there is rarely a fragrance with it I can wear, and Cristalle is no exception.
If you don’t have this problem and want a fragrance that is refreshing, but intense, try Cristalle. It’s unique and special, stands out from the popular scents today.
While I imagine this on a woman, it could easily be unisex and to me it’s at the same time very natural and outdoorsy, but also business-like. It’s a bit old fashioned (not in a bad way), and grown-up as opposed to girly, but has some youthfulness to it, too.
MilanMilos – :
As I’ve already mentioned in several of my reviews here, my skin always emphasises the fruity notes, in various compositions, at the expense of other ingredients. This is why I cannot wear fruity florals and gourmands at all – on me they smell incredibly sweet, jammy and boozy – and even some chypre scents such as Femme Rochas or Guerlain Mitsouko appear very fruity to me. This is exactly what happens with Cristalle EDP as well. Namely, while a majority of Fragrantica users have voted up oakmoss and vetiver, my skin amplifies the stupid peach; after less than half an hour, that’s all I can smell. Too bad.
wjv322bedyWelty – :
Woody fresh green with citrus edge
Into Soft citrus with a gentleness.
The woods and green stay in background.
There’s a slight metallic floral if I sniff my arm too long in one spot.
mirij1976 – :
I think this one and Misia are the strongest from Chanel
vlad.suslov2011 – :
This one is so gosh darned strange, it’s like a brown metallic opening. It’s the type of metallic thing I usually despise, I’m not sure exactly what to call it – it has a rusty, green vibe that I can 1005 get behind
The fragrance itself sadly doesn’t last long but when it does oh golly… stunning, beautiful vetiver ‘queen with an ice pick’
S777EM19 – :
I love woody scents that are alive with juicy richness. Cristalle is once such perfume that I am happy to have encountered.
The melon is this fragrance is not sweet, like the cantaloupe / rock melon pictured above, but green like honeydew, ripe and warm. It tempers the prominent character of oakmoss and vetiver perfectly, smoothing anything sharp or too dry.
Jasmine is fairly subtle, somewhat green and woody like sambac, tinged with a little fleshy stonefruit and deepened with a hint of ylang ylang, offering a wisp of skin-like beauty.
Cristalle would be perfect for those days when I don’t really want to wear perfume or want an understated presence that gives me a confidence boost without being obvious. It feels woody, natural, warm yet quietly vibrant at the same time. This is a foundational, sophisticated, fortifying beauty.
akkypant – :
Oh my God, what they did to Cristalle! Today, I went to my local store, to find a lotion for my Cristalle, that I bought many years ago, maybe 6 or 7 (and still smells amazing!). And what I found? Surely I did not find the lotion, they dont sell it, they said. I ve just wanted to refresh my perfume, so I used the one that was on the shelf. The color was so pale, not darkish yellow. I did not pay any attention. But when I sprayed I understood,,, nothing was the same. No melon, no citrus, no chypre… It reminded me of a shadow of no5, cristalle and no 19 mixed together. I also tried no 19 the edt. It was the same! I don t know what happened with Chanel, it used to be my favorite house and now it is a house for people that just can spend their money on vanilla water that is just have CHANEL printed on their bottle. Such a same! All “old school” perfumes are the same and then there are those new “Chances” which is a chance to promote their products on younger generations , but there is n chance I am gonna try anything from Chanel. I am so frustrated, I am sorry, I wanted to say that. It is a new era for Chanel and nothing seems to stand for the old fame and quality. All my love became depreciation. So I wanted to ask you, if you can think of a sub for Cristalle , with nice old oakmoss?
masterport73 – :
Cristalle is simply the Royalty of the greens for me.
A green scent is normally categorized as a sport fragrance, but Cristalle is so chic, cool, elegant and updated because it´s not heavy…the good projection is there, it´s noticeable but it doesn´t have this “heavy vintage” smell that kills everybody in the room. You are smelling fresh, elegant, approachable, cool all day long.
This goes after the gym, in a lunch with your friends as also in a beautiful summer evening with the ONE or simply hanging out with your friends.
Cristalle really stands out…the Queen!
zloyfish – :
I’ve had to delete and write a new review since my previous one didn’t do the fragrance justice.
My take on Cristalle, is that I strongly detect the Vetiver, Oakmoss and Jasmine and I just love them. They make this fragrance so naturally pure, crisp and clear especially on a spring day, that I always feel so beautiful and uplifted when I wear this.
In some ways I would describe it as a cold fragrance and it could almost be mistaken for an aquatic, but it’s so much more that that.
ewshei – :
Oh my gawsh, it’s melon! Yes, but this melon is crisp, cool, fresh and very oakmossy (the vintage one at least) On a warm spring afternoon or hot summer’s day this is refreshing and enlivening. It is bracing and an instant pick-me-up. Kind of like a cold waterfall on mossy rocks. Ice-cool breeze on a hot day. Big, green and very fresh. I love it! I have the vintage EDP in the rectangular splash bottle with black twist-off cap.
engextgexopay – :
Definitely test this one before you buy!! It must smell very different on different people because I really hated this one. I so far have not met a Chanel fragrance I didn’t like, especially the classics. #19 is one of my all time favorites, so I thought this would complete my collection by giving me something casual but classy. So wrong. Was the opposite of fresh -rotting even – smelled like a dank, stagnant pond on me. EDT wasn’t much better, just lighter, so it smelled like dirty dishwater. Tried Eau Verte and fell in love. So I got my Cristalle, just not the one I expected.

Cristalle EDP is one of the unsung heroes of Chanel. It is not for everyone as it is quite an unusual Chypre. I love the rather pompous intial explosion of Oakmoss and Mandarin so it is no problem for me.
Cristalle does take time to develop and it is strong. At least my vintage EDP version is anyway. As it simmers down from its initial explosion it goes through many different stages. The Melon comes in first and it is lovely. It is not sweet as some would expect. Neither is the Peach which comes in faintly after the Melon. They are balancing to the other green notes and make Cristalle absolutely stunning. The Jasmine becomes noticeable about twenty minutes in and it is gorgeous adding a touch of sweetness. The Ylang-ylang is very faint but I get whiffs of it too. I love this stage the most as it becomes decidedly feminine and earthy. The Vetiver is most detectable on the drydown I have noticed.
The boldness of Cristalle is mesmerizing. The overall vibe is decidedly Chanel and expensive. This is similar to Chanel N. 19. So if love it you most likely will love this grandiose juice too. I have not tried the modern version but I am sure it is awesome and complex as well. I give Cristalle vintage 10/10+++ modern ?

Beautiful, moist, damp moss, and musty, dry smoky, bitter-chocolatey vetiver!!! Oh my. Beautiful. With luscious melon, peach, mandarine, yang-ylang!! Very fresh and citrusy. So lush! So almost herby! What a gorgeous mixture!! Jasmine adding rich strong sharp sweet/green airiness. Lovely lovely fresh, cold, moist, crisp perfume. Totally intriguing, very classy and utterly feminine.
Truly a masterpiece!
agat – :
I don’t like saying this about scents but I absolutely HATED this perfume. It’s a straight blast of cabbage and something indolic on me. Looking at the notes pyramid, I can see why. Oakmoss and vetiver can be difficult notes for me, and they are not done well in this scent. Definitely a pass.
vitia.80 – :
I’m testing a charming little 4ml miniature and it’s an interesting grassy-citrus-melon opening. I dislike melon and in this it almost immediately overpowers the citrus.
This has a surprisingly desolate feel, like damp grasslands well into a rainy autumn season. It’s too chilly for anyone to casually be outside, but tramp along and you’ll smell the long marsh grass as it’s crushed underfoot.
It’s fresh and clean, but too outdoorsy to be particularly elegant (unless it’s a sensible, Eddie Bauer, IDGAF kind of elegance–definitely not the pearl necklace and chignon though).
Primarily vetiver and oakmoss within 10 minutes, but it never really warms up.
maxfg – :
CHANEL CRYSTALLE EDP is a very ladylike classy scent. Not the wallflower lady, but strong and confident one. Who’s not afraid to take a charge of any situation…
That’s, at least, what it speaks to me… In my late 20s it was given to me as a gift and it was too strong and even aggressive to me… I didn’t have enough confidence to wear it. Now, 10 years later, I decided to give it another chance and I was blown by different stages of developing on my skin…. And the staying power is superb. Even after taking a shower I still have soft and lingering scent on my skin… It’s so comforting now…
I was going to sell it but after getting to know CRYSTALLE better it’s definitely a keeper for me;)
Aivan78 – :
It feels blasphemous to say something so negative about a Chanel fragrance, but I can’t help but equate the smell to Windex cleaning spray. The similarity was very clear to me one day after I used the cleaning spray. I really wished it wasn’t the case, as I had thought long and hard about purchasing this perfume before taking the plunge.
I continued to spray this anyway, but stopped after I realized that I didn’t feel at all sexy or attractive with it on. I’m sticking to my other Chanel fragrances…

The year was 1994, and as a middle-schooler, I used to sneak sprays of my mom’s Cristalle. At the time, the scent was too buttoned-up and formal for me, but I imagined a female executive with the corner office, wearing a crisp white dress shirt and tight pencil skirt and stiletto heels, wearing LaPerla lingerie underneath, and I aspired to be her (Yes, rampant middle-school girl fantasies!)
I bought a bottle of this a few years ago, and it was every bit as powerful as I imagined. On me, the vetiver and oakmoss are quite strong, and the fragrance is very “green” — somewhat sterile and stern, but with a feminine white floral underpinning. A perfect power interview fragrance, or to wear to work.
Love Cristalle–truly underrated, and a real masterpiece.

I usually don’t do well with greens but
this is definitely an exception. First –
who could resist the name? Made at
a time when signs of wealth included
Cristalle and Platinum, it is nO wonder
that CC grabbed up the names of both
to name their excellent perfumes with.
The scent: Outgoing. Dutiful. Uplifting.
All that while being opulent. Like some-
one who wears rhinestones to the office,
as a secretary. Someone rich who works
works in retail, as a salesclerk. Either rich
or with rich aspirations, but without being
gold digging or cut-throat in any way. The
kind of that has nobility. Outgoing, vigilant,
aspirational, luxurious sums it up. ..Peace…

I do not own the EDT version of Cristalle, but I do own a full bottle of the EDP version. I cannot say what the former smells like but the latter is certainly green, fresh and quite fruity. Not as “cold” as, say, Chanel No. 19. Women always ask what this fragrance is with their husbands eyeballing me…perhaps dreading the upcoming shopping spree at the nearest Chanel the next day. Nice!
tem200288 – :
A clean green fragrance and the only one that never causes headache (for me at least) and I mean never. Light and clean. The staying power is not great, so requires reapplication.

Cristalle edp is a perfect concoction of greens. It’s alchemy in a herbalist’s shop.
Green magic. I like it better than the edt, it’s rounder, less bitter, less sharp, sweeter and stronger. Expensive and nowhere discounted, but Chanels rarely are … It’s well worth every penny !
LehaWolk – :
No!
Definitely not understand this perfume. My skin felt herbs and spices again. If I sprinkle curry … Apparently my skin reacts most perfume Chanel …
GUSAR – :
If Cristalle in EDT is spring in its early, infant stages, with cold frosty nights and tentatively warm days, the EDP is full blown summer, slightly stale, hot humid summer with warm sticky nights and long hazy days.
Cristalle EDP is a dense perfume with a green understory. There is a bit of greenery and melon on top, and the melon eventually morphs into a ripe juicy peach, melded with some white flowers. Underneath is a hint of green grass and oakmoss.
This EDP is not loud, or particularly long lasting, but the added fruit notes to the mix add a heaviness that the EDT does not possess. Also, there is no hyacinth note, in all her bitter, green, nascent glory. I find the EDP to be a summery sweet perfume, with green grassy undertones, but still less mossy, less ‘chypre’ than the EDT.
My bottle of Cristalle is older, the ingredients simply stated “Water, Parfum, SD40” or some such and that’s it. I don’t know if it had been reformulated in the meantime.
tarik08 – :
This always makes me smile, I feel fresh and cool wearing this on a summer day.
They used to call this the “ice queen” scent, maybe because there really isn’t any other Chanel scent quite like it other than the old formula of No. 19, which is also incredibly cool and refreshing.
I have recently fallen for Coco Noir, maybe I’ll work my way to No. 5 Eau Premiere yet!
sveta3177 – :
I bought this about five years ago and I liked it because it was fresher and less heavy than the other Chanel perfumes (for some reason I’d decided that I had to have one!). Haven’t used it much, so I tried it again yesterday….and I hated it. I still found it cool and crisp, but with an overwhelming bitterness that I could’t get past. I detect no citrus at all (love citrus) and no melon/peach. Maybe some jasmine, but almost no sweetness. It’s cold, unforgiving and dry and I don’t think the base is very different from the opening (which I had hoped). I’m still new at this, but I think it must be the oakmoss and vetiver that I don’t like. Does anyone know?

Very impressed by this one.It is rich and complete evening scent for a glad wild lady with classy outfit. She knows that she wants, for sure.I just adore this edp Cristalle ,all the stages of it.I used to wear edt for several years ago, just like every day scent, but edp is more for a night. It has that defenitely Chanel vibe from the begining to the end, just like in Mademoiselle ,everyone knows what I mean, but Cristalle is not that “baby face”scent.I am wearing my black leather bikerstyle jacket and skinny pants with high heel boots and silver hand bracelet and I am gonna rock this evening with my Cristalle ed Perfume .Thank You ,Chanel
oxyandserg – :
Finally got the EDP after trying it on my wrist a couple of times. I wasn’t sure at first if I loved it or not but having worn a full day it is a new favourite. Crisp, clean & woody at first but settles to something sweeter & more feminine, must be the peach, melon mandarin I get but still a darker more masculine hint, not sure what that is, presumably the oakmoss. I feel very grown up wearing it, and at 48 that is a first!
Edited to say, now I have tried the EDT this is only my second fav!
Влад84 – :
I am surprised at the quite sparse list of ingredients for this fragrance. Happy that I don’t really get the melon note too much. My first impression is Orange/bergamot, Jasmine,Vetyver, the Oakmoss is gentle, probably a bit too weak in the version I have. Not sure how much this has been re-formulated?
I do like the intitial scent, fresh and astringent, but it does not last on my skin or develop into anything at all complex.
Would not invest in a bigger bottle.
mvf08 – :
As the name suggests Cristalle is a clear and sparkling fragrance. It opens with some hugely evident citrus and after what seems like ages, it eventually morphs into some softer oakmoss and grassiness. I would suggest that it’s more suitable for the warmer months because it has some airy lightness. Good lasting power and sillage.
kombinat – :
On paper I loved this, but thankfully whilst strolling around Boots chemist I decided to sneak a spritz on my hand, and thank heavens I did that before buying it. On paper this is incredible, on my skin it smelt as if I had just rolled around in freshly cut damp grass.
Dissapointed, as I really wanted to love this on my skin.

Splendid !!!!!!
No matter if old or new version. Both are wonderful.
I use the new one on my hair and it’s more than perfect , I can enjoy it every moment for 1 or more days and people want to know what I’m wearing . Doesn’t have much lasting power on my skin but who cares ,even better that it doesn’t !
The older one stays better on skin and is v similar to something v familiar. Will check it out again and will come back.

Good evening ladies,gentlemen..
I have been reviewing your comments and notes these past few days. My late mother was a collector of fine fragrances, from Shalimar, Chanel, Jean-Charles Brosseau, Boucheron being her FAVORITE Oh my, Ralp Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio and I’m still going through bottle after bottle, having not a clue and overwhelmed by how many one woman could own. I found these closed sets in a big box tucked away at the bottom of her Walk in Closet. Sooo many Boucheron items and classic gift sets. There must be 3 bottles of Ralph Lauren just sitting on her bathroom counter amongst the Boucheron, Shalimar and some I have never even heard of.
Most of these from me reading your reviews are PRE-Green Dot (other than the Boucheron they’re more recent I think??), Ingredients Printed, One Shalimar is from 1967.. Sealed.. Never opened or touched. I have a Chanel Cristalle, nothing on the box except the size 60ml Export Sticker on the bottom, and is stamped 19 F. So much for the 4 digit batch codes. So now I have a bit of education, I thank you all.
I felt it only right to guide you to these vintage and classic formulas as My mother LOVED fragrances, Oh I’ve got a Yves Saint Laurent 6.7oz of Paris Eau de Toilette, original ’83 box?? Nothing on the box,, the bottom of the bottle has a sticker, batch code, Paris… So yes there is a Treasure Trove of delightful fragrances from the past.
I’m not in the perfume business, after these are gone.. Thats it.. I know my mom would have wanted others to enjoy what she did… I don’t know if this against policy to post here, i’m sorry .. But its a win win for all those who LOVE the classic fragrances. My Ebay name visioneeringltd, more than welcomed to look me up and take a gander of what is there. No, it isn’t discounted… You all taught me that. *winks*
I thank you for your time..Ihope these fine fragrances find a new home.

Cristalle eau de parfum; this scent is one of the most unique and different i’ve smelled. The first spray; a big smile on my face as i’m hit with the equivalent of a frozen forest moss and citruses galore, and the muddy pond and sparkly fruit accord. Hint of melon, barely a hint of peach just to give some body to the earth and citrus. This is in the same family as chanel N19 to me; the icy/aloof beauties; but theyre very different; cristalle is even more cold and “damp”.
I somehow envision this to be the smell in a white uber-modern villa on top of a hill; with high-tech airplanes in the garage instead of cars; dont ask me why:P
verdict:LOVE (edp)

longevity: 5/10
