Description

Davidoff launches a new edition of the women’s Cool Water perfume from 1996. After Cool Water Sensual Essence edition that was presented in 2012, Cool Water Sea Rose launches in 2013 as a new chapter in the saga of love between a woman and the sea.

Perfumer Aurelien Guichard created this composite of notes that represents freshness, spontaneity and purity. Initial accords include delicate and juicy Japanese Nashi pear, which wraps itself around the heart made of sweet floral notes of pink peony and laid on the sensual base of musk.

The face of the new fragrance is model Diana Moldovan, shot by Enrique Badulescu.

The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette with additional shower gel and body lotion.

A clean smell, not picking up much rose. I like it. Not great in lasting power, though. Soft, more of a skin scent. Great for the heat and humidity, which we get a lot of here. The bottle is pretty, too!

The rose and musk here are pretty weak, almost do not exit. It smells more like sweet “fruity” than “floral” to me. It reminds me of Marc Jacobs Eau So Fresh Sunshine EDT (or Eau So Fresh Kiss EDT). Overall it is a “young female” fragrance and does not offer anything special at all that can set it apart. It just safely blends right in the crowd of fragrances and then disappears. It is not bad but will be forgotten.
It is best suited to be used as a “splash”/”body mist” right after a shower on date night, and then later you can layer your night perfume on top of it before heading out.

Fresh pink roses drying down to a very refined floral fruity creamy base (which reminded me of Jadore, Pleasure, 5th Avenue, and so on) that lingers for hours… well blended with quality ingredients.
    Medium sillage (5-6 sprays)
    12+ longevity

I bought this today and was expecting something similar to Exotic Summer (which is a very close dupe of Chloe), but it’s not that at all. This is a very clean scent, no rose at all. This is actually very close to Britney Spears’ Curious!!!

This is a totally beautiful and simple “off-shoot” of Cool Water Woman. The beauty of the sea is combined with an intense rose which makes it all the more summery and appealing. Reminds me of conch seashells on the beach that give off the sound of the waves. A true summer treasure– fresh and sweet.

(review from a man, tested on my girlfriend)
Very very simple fragrance with 3 components. Yes, sometimes less is is more, but not in this case. The top is a really wonderful pear note, but the middle with the peonyisn’t good. I really love the poeny, but this flower is only a good suppliment note, nothing more… The base is a single musk, with a hint of woody notes, nothing special, boring. Forgettable scent.
    – Spring/summmer daytime scent
    – Sillage and longevity slightly under the average, maybe 4-5 hours
    – Safe blind buy
    Scent (open, top-mid): 7/10 (x2)
    Scent (drydown, base): 7/10 (x2)
    Sillage: 4.5/10
    Longevity: 4.5/10
    Uniqueness: 6.5/10
    Versatility: 6/10
    Total: 6.188/10

All I smelled was soft rose, as if this was a bottle of essential oil. Nothing like the original Cool Water! Also I’m totally confused by the note list. No rose!?

This is not even rose scented! It’s more of an aquatic sweet teenager-y fragrance. Not for me, it’s for a younger audience.

Pink always my favorite color and this light smell make me feel good and fresh. But yes it can’t stay longer. However, worth to try it out! 🙂

Soft delicate pink peony that oddly enough can pass for a rose to anyone who is not familiar with how rose smells in a perfume. When we think of roses we think of actual roses we smell at the flower shop or in our backyards/gardens. But in perfume the rose note is very complex and can turn into even other floral scents that smell similar to rose. I think peony smells very similar to rose in perfume. This is a pink rose, very girly girl and feminine like this fragrance. The pear note at the opening is very sweet but not cloying, not strong fruit. It dries down to a light musk. The whole thing is over in less than 2 hours and it’s just great for putting on after a shower and when you don’t need to wear any heavy perfume. Office friendly, wearing this to work won’t hit anyone’s noses. I find it refreshing and sweet and wear this when I’m around children and when I’m very close to people at my job so that they won’t be able to smell any perfume on me at all.

Fragrance Review For Davidoff Cool Water Sea Rose
    Top Notes Pear
    Middle Notes Peony
    Base Notes Musk
3 note perfume a la Thierry Mugler’s Alien 3 note formula which means that no you do not get only 3 notes as they’d like you to think. This is a light scent and very innocent, not very complicated simplistic but not too dull. It’s linear and smells exactly the same at the first spritz and down to the dry down. On me it lasted no longer than 2 hours which is such a shame. This is a very ephemeral fragrance. I enjoy layering this with other fragrances that enhance it such as Rose De France by Historiae which has actual rose and pear combination plus other notes that really deliver amazing results. This is also great when worn with soft floral body lotions like Japanese Cherry Blossom by Bath & Body Works. This actually did smell of cherry blossom. There could be more floral notes in here not being listed. I swear I smelled a soft white flower could be freesia or jasmine. This starts off with that synthetically produced pear I do like. Sweet and fruity but not too fruity. The peony stands out and it smells pink and sweet, flowery but not heavily floral. The scent warms up and becomes just a tad spicy and musky at the dry down. This is not bad but it’s only good for a pick-me-up scent to spritz on after a shower. This is of course very much a Davidoff Cool Water fragrance. All the Cool Waters are the same. This is a bath product or fresh after the shower scent. I don’t find it aquatic enough and I don’t like the name sea rose as there is no such thing as a sea rose. And there is no rose in it which is frustrating and misleading for any of us thinking there could be a rose note in it. It’s sweet, subtle and perfect to wear for your morning commute if someone else is sitting in the passenger seat next to you. I have received compliments on it because it is very soft but detectable from am arm’s distance and it’s described as sweet and floral. Very nice. Not my usual type of perfume but not bad. I’m going to check out other Cool Waters.

I love it! Smells soooo good but doesn’t last.
By far the best Cool Water “rose”
    Very angelic smell!

Summery, carefree and youthful – fresh peony with a little bit of pear and a hint of the sea. As mentioned before the dry down is subtle enough to pass as a nice shampoo. I think that this is one that will smell nice to the people in close proximity to you. It would be a nice one to wear to class, the library, work.

I love the original Cool Water but summer is almost over so I’m looking for some twist.. had high hopes that I’ll find it in Sea Rose…
The initial spray is just awesome! Uplifting and very feminine, pear & freesia are dominant, could hardly detect the rose. Sits very close to the skin and stays for only an hour on me. Poor sillage and leaves traces of alcohol on the drydown. To my nose it’s like a watered down version of Chanel Chance Eu Tendre which I adore. Won’t repurchase.

light floral perfume – true to the name. However its sad that within 5 minutes of application it just fades away.. this could have been a little stronger..
    Sillage: 1/ 10
    Longetivity: 2/ 10

I love this fragrance!!! I went for buying Cool Water and ended up buying this instead. Its a very light fresh floral fragrance. Top notes are nashi Pear which is a hybrid of apple and pear. Its a fruity note. Heart notes are of peony and they are so beautiful and delicate. I dont get any musk note in this. It stays fresh and floral throught out the day without getting powdery or nasty. I wished it lasted longer! Its a very delicate fragrance and wont last for more than 2-3 hours. And at this price range the longetivity is pretty bad. Sillage is low to non existant. Thats the only sad part about the fragrance otherwise its my most favourite floral fragrance!!!

You just don’t put the word “rose” into the name unless the fragrance actually contains rose water. It’s like putting a picture of a cow on a carton of goat milk and naming it “Mountain beaver”.
Sea rose, mountain rose, river rose, wild rose, valley rose, wind rose….none of them belong into the name of the fragrance that smells of peony and peach. I know, I know, it’s poetry but, let’s face it – we all expect rose in it. Misleading, if you ask me. 🙂
It’s actually a nice fragrance but extremely short lasting and very, very weak, both in sillage and character. I would dare to say – non ambitious!
And it comes in a lovely bottle in ROSE pink!

what is it with “rose” perfumes being so light? even if they have no actual rose in it, just having it in it’s name implies soft sillage and seems to not last that long anyway.
Don’t get me wrong i like this perfume a lot, the peony is definitely there, and the pear is less noticeable on me – but i wish it could be stronger, not having to re-apply every other hour for other people to notice it.

I’m wearing this today layered with Avon’s Tahitian Holiday (which is gorgeous- coconuts and beach mmm!) I think it adds the sweet note missing from Sea Rose….ok so it’s coconut and not rose but trust me, they smell lovely together!

  22. :

    5 out of 5

I would say it is fresh, feminine and soft scent. It is definitely a lovely daytime perfume which is not overpowering. The only problem is that it does not really last long.

  23. :

With this one is only one problem for me: can it be that so simple parfume can be interesting? Fresh opening takes me among young girls having fun in a pub or on the beach. It makes me feel: oh, so girlish and easy. But the truth is that after a while Rose Sea become something really nice, pure and not complicated in a good way. So, yes sometimes it can be so simple 😉 like with life.

I am so disappointed 🙁 At first I tried this on paper and I liked it; I could smell sweet pear and lovely peony, not so strong and smelling like shampoo as a whole. It was a typical fruity and flowery scent and because I like such a scent I bought this soon, and I tried it on my skin for the first time today. Yes, it was not a unique or special scent but I thought it was very general and that it wouldn’t make anybody disgusted. However it’s making myself disgusted. I can’t feel any sweetness or freshness that I smelled on the paper, it just feels like a bomb of flowers and it’s making me sick. Definitely not for summer and not for me. I knew that perfume could be different when actually tried on skin from testing it, but this is the first time I’m actually experiencing it and I feel so sad 🙁 Lucky that I purchased it in a smallest size.

Fresh and sweet with floral and fruit notes. Picked it up for my wife for a quick after-the-beach scent. Not going to blow anyone’s mind–its Cool Water after all–but it does the job just fine.

I really like the Davidoff fragrances – most of them are clean, simple perfumes, suitable for everyday wear. Sea Rose is no different – even if it is recommended as suitable for all occasions, this is deffinetely not a fragrance I would wear at a fancy party, for example. What I love about it are the pink peony notes – I am a big fan of peones. And even its color and bottle made me think of a pink peony bouquet. Today I found it on Strawberrynet and I could not believe my eyes when I saw the price – it is 25% off and it is a real bargain

I like this. Simple conposition, nothing yucky smelling. Nice floral with a hint of sweetness from the pear.

  28. :

    3 out of 5

This is a pretty nice fruity floral in its composition but nothing exciting. It smells like shampoo. I have said before, I don’t mind smelling like shampoo or body wash, its simple and there is absolutely no rose, but it’s a geraniol, peony-type pretty pink floral with enough ozonics, a touch of aldehydes hiding in there.
Its a good composition for this style of fragrance in this price range. Dry down reminds me of a lighter version of Lacoste a Touch of Pink.

  29. :

Awful. Smells like a £2.99 body spray from a chemist. Generic and sad. Had to wash it off.

Very light and fresh, suitable for summer and daywear. Peony is quite nice in it. Very simple composition. The good thing is that it’s not overpowering or slushy. The downside is that it’s a little boring.
Wearable scent, but I am not amazed by it. Cute pink bottle.

In my view, this fragrance might be too warm if you live in a country where Summer can be too hot, sometimes. Uruguay.

  32. :

The official notes from Davidoff’s website:
    DELICATE FRESHNESS
Nashi pear & subtle violet petals
    BLOOMING FEMININITY
    Peony and freesia delicate flowers
    LASTING TENDERNESS
    Blond cedar wood & musk
Yes, it doesn’t have an “actual rose” note, but this is so nice, fresh with a hint of floral sweetness.

  33. :

This is light and elegant. Sea Rose is a delicate and soft fragrance – it’s not one for lovers of only bold scents with heavy sillage. I found it rather lovely and comforting.

  34. :

    4 out of 5

Fresh, floral, delicate, fantastic fragrance for hot season! Musky base is also subtle and very nice. For sure it is office safe, won’t bother anyone.
Update: Just too aquatic for me.
    Update2: Also a bit ‘salty’.

  35. :

Beautiful. The name ‘Sea Rose’, the attractive bottle. It reminds me of Burberry Brit Sheer & Versace Bright Crystal for it’s fresh summery scent. First spray the scent takes my mind go travel to a quiet pool, fresh cool water pool with flower petals scattered on it. The air filled with fresh flowery scent. Fresh, delicate, innocent, alluring. Good longevity.

  36. :

I really like the fresh, feminine yet innocent aura of Sea Rose. Nothing dramatic or sexy – that’s what I want.

  37. :

    3 out of 5

I got it when it came out, because I liked the idea of a sea rose smell and it was very hot when I bought it. Luckily I only bought a small size. It fades away so quickly and is hard to trace. Also: isn’t it strange that there is no rose in this scent?

  38. :

    4 out of 5

I got a sample of this and while I do rather like it, I won’t be purchasing.
It’s a very nice, pretty ‘pink’ smelling fragrance; however, it smells remarkably like Bath and Body Works Japanese Cherry Blossom on me.
I love both and during sales, the bath and body works scent is much less expensive.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

Well, isn’t that an odd disappointment.
Normally I would not be interested in anything from Davidoff, anything in a pink bottle or anything having to do with roses.
And yet. The name “Sea Rose” instantly caught my attention. Bushes of rosa rugosa, also known as beach rose or sea rose, are abundant at the seaside where I spend my summers, and also a memorable part of my childhood playgrounds. I started thinking of something salty and beachwood-smelling combined with a wild rose would not be so bad, would perhaps be the perfect essence of summer.
Then I looked up the notes and found this perfume has nothing to do with either sea _or_ roses – it’s supposed to be all about pears and peonies. This is the first time I’ve been majorly disappointed by a perfume without even sniffing it first.
Maybe the whole thing is some sort of Japanese in-joke, I thought. Being that peony is supposed to be big there and the Nashi pear is Japanese and Rosa Rugosa (Sea Rose) is called literally “shore pear” in Japanese.
I decided to smell it anyway, on the odd chance that pears and peonies could be combined to smell somewhat like roses on a beach, as unlikely as that sounds. I didn’t get the pear (must admit I’m a bit of a stranger to nashi pears, so maybe just couldn’t place it) but I’ve smelled a lot of peonies this summer and there’s no comparison. I couldn’t have called this a peony perfume either, without knowing it was supposed to be one.
If it reminds me of anything, it’s one of the less obnoxious and more expensive fabric softeners. Very generic, very linear and persistent. I kept expecting it to fade away quickly, but 2 hours later it was still strongly there, enough to become bothersome. After scrubbing off with hot water and two different soaps it was still somewhat detectable.
Still wish there was a real Sea Rose perfume.
Or maybe I should just try some layering…

  40. :

    4 out of 5

I tried this Sea Rose 2 times at duty free and everytime I had a weird feeling about it.
The bottle, colour and name are very appealing.
The perfume itself… nice, I cannot say it doesn’t smell nice. Fruit-flower-musky syntetics. Very common.
On my skin it behaves good, it merges with my chemistry and it’s confortable to wear.
Pear is not so pungent or obnoxious as in other frags.
All together is a very wearable, nice and pretty fruity-floral and quite longlasting, too.
Less heavy and syrupy than the golden version “Sensual” it can be worn in most occasions, especially in summer and it wouldn’be out of place, just your average girly scent with a background of greater elegance than most fruity baskets.
Then… nothing else. It makes me feel like most Davidoff perfumes: a safe choice of acquired tastes, nothing scaring, nothing that could let others think you’re nothing else than a pretty inoffensive girl with some manners.
Is that made on a purpose? Bf said it smelled “normal”.
It’s his way to say: “I wouldn’t run away from a girl smelling like this”
From my part, and I must say it’s only my personal feeling, it’s something I would wear around people if I had to kill someone going unnoticed and this particularly makes it weird and no-buy for me.
Too much of a clichè, too much of shown off normality, if it makes sense.

Nice soft opening, but very fleeting. Had to spray myself about 3 times on the way home from purchase to even smell it. Still, it is a very lovely 10 minutes until it fades. perhaps it will bloom in today’s heat!

Smells fruity, fresh and sweet. I like it, but have the feeling that it smells like a lot of other fragrances in the same category. It’s mostly a young fragrance.
