Description

Coco Noir ilaunches in September 2012.

“For Coco Noir, I thought of Coco and of Coco Mademoiselle too, because it’s also part of the history. I wanted to continue exploring an entire esthetic range of CHANEL perfumery, a range that distinguishes itself from the Florals, one that is illustrated by Bois-des-Iles and Cuir de Russie. I took it up with Coco. It’s what I like to call the CHANEL Coromandel culture, what you see and feel in her apartment. The night vision of the ‘Orient that starts and ends in Venice’ imposed itself upon me and that is where I wanted to go.” perfumer Jacques Polge.

In 1984, there was Coco, that sumptuous blend of wood, resins, flowers, spices and fruit. A treasure trove of splendours and an endless source of discovery and sensual delight. Then, in 2001, came Coco Mademoiselle, a breath of air that lightens this cornucopia of fragrance, in which everything is simplified and accelerated in a radiant burst of fruit and flower. And today there is Coco Noir, a great nocturnal Baroque. Another journey in the wake of a Gabrielle who fully embraced the dazzle of black and Venice, incorporating them not only into her creations but into her life.

Top notes: grapefruit, Calabrian bergamot, Heart: rose, narcissus, rose geranium leaf and jasmine. Base: tonka bean, sandalwood, vanilla, patchouli and white musk frankincense.

Coco Noir was created by Jacques Polge and Christopher Sheldrake.

If you have smelled Coco Mademoiselle, you will instantly recognize it as a Chanel offering. The white florals smell similar. Its a nice floral fragrance, not ground breaking though. I would prefer coco mademoiselle to this any day, especially since it outlasts coco noir by hours. I like Coco Noir, but do not love it. No 5 and 31 Rue Cambon are still my best loves from Chanel.

Love this layered with Mademoiselle. For day, I do 1 part Noir under 2 parts Mademoiselle. For evening, it’s 1 part Mademoselle under 2 parts Noir. If you are new to layering, try layering within Chanel families (ie. Chance with a another Chance). I mix other brands with each other but because Chanel is SO distinctive, I only mix Chanel with Chanel.
I can smell this more then 12 hours later if I’m close (the pulse point of my elbow when I go to bed). It’s SO addictive.

This is one of the most mysterious, deep and beautiful scents I know. It has a powerful, unisex feel to it; I can imagine it could be worn by both women and men. It is very strong, so a little goes a long way. Top notes can feel a bit aggressive to some, but it settles so nicely that after a couple of hours you are left with a satin soft and deep scent that lasts hours and hours. I think it only gets better during the day/night and I never reapply it.
Many compare it a lot to the original Coco, but for me those two scents are words apart. Coco is more feminine, warm and oriental.

When I first tried this perfume, i was hit by something balsamic and spicy. It was sharper than expected, notwithstanding that this is Coco Noir.
It was definitely sophisticated, but I didn’t think I could wear it.
A few hours later – and WOW – I found something smoother, creamier and more mysterious.
This is definitely on my wishlist – after spraying the perfume it is long lasting and settles in a magnificent way.
    The bottle is also gorgeous.

All the base resins gave this scent a nice spicy berry feel to it. Not a fan of all Chanel mademoiselle and its family, but this one is different. I really like it.

I bought the body lotion first and fell in love with the scent, then I bought the EDP 35 ml and I have a feeling that it’s lacking something and it’s not as elegant and mesmerizing as the scented body lotion.
My bottle is 2017, perhaps they reformulated the EDP but didn’t with the Body Lotion and Body Cream.
Maybe the Pure Perfume is another story, but couldn’t find a sample or a tester where I live to check it out.
I sense that Coco Noir EDP has less grapefruit than the Body Lotion/Cream.
The sillage is good and the lasting power is about 8-10 hours on my skin.
In general Coco Noir EDP resembles Coco Mademoiselle a lot but smoother, creamier, a bit darker and more chic.
I’m waiting for the hair mist to see if it’s as beautiful as the body products, otherwise I would rather buy the Body Cream than getting another lacking version.

OG. This is a complete travesty compared to Coco, original, the MASTERPIECE!
Other than the cool looking trendy bottle, there is nothing truly dark about it. More like Coco Léger (Light). The citrusy, fruity aspects are really in your face. Another indication is its disappointing longevity compared with its Oriental predecessor(s).
It’s also kind of odd how it seemingly cycles through and end up resembling other feminine perfumes from the Chanel House. I am taken aback at this. It’s as though the perfumer is a DJ orchestrating a mashup of a record label’s greatest hits in order to generate yet another hit.
Coco Light, l mean, Dark has a time and place. It’s definitely more casual and daytime appropriate. It can be worn to the office. Even more sporty types might like this because of its inherent fresh-spicy identity. I was thinking one could could wear this on the summer as well. For me this freshness is off-putting, synthetic and air freshener like (similar to masculine perfumes). The Rose germanium smell is nice and carries a more masculine vibe.
Come evening, if you are looking for a “dark”, heavy perfume, clearly this one does not cut it. Time to go back, to the original Coco. Or Coco M. If you can afford it, Coromandel.
Another one to consider is of course the infamous Mugler “Angel” the innovator of the gourmand-Oriental-patchouli genre. The EDT version is comparable in feel to Coco Noir but still much darker, has better projection and ultimately lasts longer! Both can be worn by guys. But l still think Angel is the better buy

I wasn’t impressed with this perfume on first introduction. The name really threw me off- I was expecting a rich, dark intoxicating elixir like Coromandel and what I got was not that. Trying my sample again in high summer and dropping the baggage of expectation, I am really enjoying this now. What has thrown me off is the lightness of this perfume- it’s citric, slightly aquatic and the base notes are dry so that it almost smells like fine paper. I keep seeing St Augustine FL in my head when I smell it- Spanish moss, salt air and chalky stone. Noir doesn’t really add up in winter, but this is a lovely summer perfume and I may see at least a 1.2 oz bottle in my future.

I’ve not been investigative towards the Channel brand of perfumes, since the most famous of them target a female audience. However, curiosity made me try some of the fragrances, and after just one spray I bought Coco Noir. I must say that the perfume from the tester bottle was much richer and long-lasting than the one I purchased. Nevertheless, I am not disappointed with my purchase, since I find the perfume very nice. It starts dark and fizzy, and soon some fruitiness with a floral undertone appears on stage too. I must also add that I found this fruitiness heavily pronounced in the perfume from the tester bottle, and I found it to be a bit too feminine for me. However, in the possible reformulation with which I ended up, this element is more balanced and polished (but still kind of odd), and I feel more comfortable about it. The perfume does not develop much, and it is just dark, fizzy, somewhat fresh, fruity and floral. It feels like black meets burgundy in colour comparison. Coco Noir is, in my opinion, an excellent accessory to black attire and just makes me feel luxurious and somehow timeless. Alas, this feeling only lasts for a while as the perfume does not perform quite well as time passes.

Beautiful scent, master work. I always have to.

  13. :

The top of this is all fresh citrus. That first spray is so confusing. It’s bright and sparkly and juicy. Noir what?
It then settled into a very nice Woody patchouli rose. Still not noir. Still not Coco.
It’s nice but I don’t see the connection to my beloved Coco at all. Still, nice and very wearable don’t be scared off by the name.

  14. :

    5 out of 5

I agree with reviews that say it is the Noir version to Mademoiselle. The initial spray is undescribable to me, literally, I can’t even figure out or remember what it smells like. Any other Chanel, you could easily tell apart, this one is just fresh. It becomes Noirish in the dry down, which is very pretty, and has more resemblence to Coco. It becomes more balsamic. I really like it. It is lighter than Coco. But I adore and have Coco, so Noir is redundant. If you can’t decide between Coco and Madmoiselle, get Noir 2-in-1.

  15. :

    3 out of 5

So this is a really beautiful perfume. I find elements of both Coco original as well as Coco Madamoselle. I find the patchouli, musk, vanilla, and cloves stand out the most. The musk reminds me of a 70s style musk. Its a very comforting scent, warming and luxurious.
But sadly, this fragrance lasts only about an hour on me. This is unacceptable for a fragrance of this price point. It seems to be the case these days that quality has gone down but prices go up. But for a house like Chanel, with such a stellar reputation…I expected a lot more.

I had read so much about this one, and was determined to buy myself a bottle of this, because I own the original Coco and quite like Coco Mademoiselle.
I tested it on my skin, and it was as if the perfume bubbles shot up through my nose intoo my brain, giving me an enormous headache! I think it is trying to be too many things at once: it wants to be deep, but also fresh, the patchouli want to come through but then I also get clean powderiness because it needs to appeal to a large crowd… make up your mind, Coco Noir!
In the drydown it becomes a nice warm scent, with hints of spice and lemon but nothing too pronounced. If only it would smell like that all the time. I like the drydown, but those first 45minutes ruin it for me. Unfortunately, because I really had my heart set out for it.

Chanels for the most part do not work with my chemistry well. I bought Coco Mdmlle but cannot wear it, even though my favorite note in perfumery is patchouli.
I have a small bottle of Coromandel that I LOVE. That is the only Chanel I can wear.
As people say about Guerlain-how they all have that Guerlinade smell-so it is with Chanel.
I was very surprised I love this and am thinking of a bottle. It’s not as harsh as Mdmlle. It’s a burst of fresh citrus in the beginning, but what really stands out is the rose. And what a beautiful rose it is! It’s not an old rose smell, nor almost dying, not cloying nor artificial. For the first time in perfume, I now know what people mean when they say “a jammy rose”! It lasts from the beginning of the perfume to the end and really, it’s just a lovely perfume all the way through.

  18. :

    4 out of 5

    Very nice, safe Chanel.
I wouldn’t call it Coco Noir (=like a Noir version of original Coco), but more like Coco Mademoiselle Noir(ish).
In comparison to the Mademoiselle it has less citrus, more rose and patchouli is darker and sweeter together with the resins and tonka.
Nice balance, nothing sharp or screechy, very wearable, good for present, for day or night. Can also work equally well in summer or winter. Nothing too noir here, but that’s fine.
The only down side is that the last versions have such a poor longevity. Mine is bought in 2018 and doesn’t last more then 2 hours. I did some reading about the reformulations and learnt it is best to find pre-2015 batch code since the fragrance from 2012-2015 was a totally different category in terms of quality: the scent, the ingredients and longevity.
Either that or extract, but i would always go first for the old formulas.

Coco Mlle is the only Chanel that’s ever worked on my skin. I tried Coco Noir, because I liked the Intense but found it didn’t last. Noir is spicier than Coco Mlle (cloves!), so it’s less versatile and smooth, and since it only lasted an hour on me, it’s not worth having.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

I decided to finally buy and keep a bottle of this. I bought it when it first came out in 2012 I believe and I swapped it out as I just didn’t love it. I think the problem is that I expected to love it as much if not more than the original Coco which I must unapolagetically say is one of the most beautiful things I have ever smelled. Over time I just am drawn back to the heavenly Chanel Coco and it must suit me well as it earns many compliments. Don’t listen to anyone who says Coco or Number 5 smell ‘grandma’ or don’t avoid it because your mother wore it – Chanel is all about body chemistry. Example being my mum and sister wear Number 5 and I don’t recognize it immediately on them even though I wear it all the time. We have often all worn it and asked each other what the other is wearing when we meet! I think after a while it becomes more clear but it takes a while as it just evolves individually on everyone’s skin. Anyway I got a bit off track! So I bought Coco Noir and found it to be very different to Coco and I still do. I don’t see a great resemblence between them. I think personally it is best to just look at it as not related to Coco when taking it all in. I still don’t love it but I do like it. It is strong and has a Chanel sweetness that isn’t too sweet but for some reason doesn’t last long at all. That is quite unlike most Chanel offerings that have decent staying power. I have to admit it was gone within an hour. But I have bought it again and if it lasts longer now I will update my review as I didn’t test this yet. I do like the scent itself more this time around perhaps knowing what I was getting. One thing I have noticed is that people who love Mademoselle love this one and while I like Mademoselle I don’t love it. I think this almost has more in common with Mademoselle than Coco.

Since I own all three: Coco Mad, the new Intense and this Noir, beside the main stream DNA of the line, I can see the slight differences between them.
The Coco Mad has the “freshest”/”brightest” patchouli (with mimosa and ylang ylang as supporters. At some levels, it can be considered “sharp” to someone’s nose).
The Intense has more “spicy” note, and feels “warmer” (mostly from tonka bean and amber).
And this Noir has the distinctive “smokey” sweetness in it (perhaps from olibanum, benzoin and geranium). I found in some “intense” or “noir” fragrances, geranium (versus regular roses), pomegranate and raspberry (versus cherry and strawberry) have an interesting “darker”/”low pitch” sweetness in them. I think they serve perfectly as “enhancers” to “deepen” the sweetness of the composition, to also add a “vintage”/”old perfume” vibe to the fragrance.
I love them all as they offer me different prospectives. I prefer Coco Mad sometimes during summer/fall, Intense for fall/winter and Noir for winter/spring.

I absolutely hate this… there’s a weird note – something fruity and slightly sweet that stands out… the grapefruit? It just jerks me and makes me nauseous. I expected a smooth, deep-smelling oriental. And for the most part we have it, but the fruity twist makes this composition anything but NOIR.

@LiliaBetty Sample Coco Mademoiselle Intense. It’s what i expected/wanted from Coco Noir. No screechy citrus at all

  26. :

    4 out of 5

I love the bottle.. and the accords sounds quite right for my liking, but sadly I could only smell screechy lemon on me. Like a lemony floor cleaner scent, a little floral on the drydowns but the citrus remained. And nothing else, that’s what makes it so frustrating for me.
Not a blind buy. I’m quite disappointed because I was expecting more out of this as I totally adore coco mademoiselle, coco and no5. They don’t smell alike at all. Will give it another try in a few months time.

Very nice perfume that would pass as a daring floral on an elegantly dressed masculine and confident man, dressed in dark or black clothes preferably.
On my skin it smells like a fresh floral soap supported by some slight powdery creamines, no mystery or darkness at all, and stays like this for more than 3 hours, then it dries down to the tonka note, very close to skin.
I’d easily wear this around the house because the quality is nice and it smells very pleasant.

  28. :

I used a sample of this to try out for a wedding. What I am surprised about this fragrance is that on me, the opening spray and the dry down smell almost the same! The powdery, musky floral notes were so beautiful to smell and at the end of the night I could still smell the perfume on my clothes as if I just sprayed it on!! It is not dissimilar to Coco Mademoiselle but it is more intense in terms of floral notes but very feminine. I will definitely invest in a bottle to add to my growing Chanel perfume collection. And what girl doesn’t like Chanel?

I find Coco Noir truly intoxicating. It almost seems addictive – once you smell it you can’t get enough. Every time I wear this I will receive comments from both men and women about how amazing I smell. This is definitely an autumn/winter/evening perfume as it’s quite strong. A very sexy perfume.

Pleasant scent, in a balsamic way (sandalwood I smell) with some citrus. It reminds me very much of Bohemian soap by Lush.
This perfume tells the story of a tall, slim woman in sharp black suit, short hair gelled back, striding through a packed room with all eyes on her.
I am not that woman, though 🙂

I loved this so much when first tested in the store, walked around for an hour and then could not stop myself anymore from buying it. But every time I used it, it was too much… My husband summarized it as ‘you smell like sandals’, ouch… I don’t know if it is my skin chemistry or anything, I really do want to be able to wear this. For now I swapped it, will try again some day as I agree that it is a beautiful perfume.

    – the first try:
Green & bitter bergamot peel with crystal sugar, earthy patchouli & a few rose petals. That is all? Oh, it´s not enough.
    – the second try:
Sweet & fresh bergamot, intensively herbal patchouli & a bunch of roses. Well, it´s much better!
    – the third try:
Bergamot is turning into bittersweet grapefruit juice. Patchouli is fading to smoky & herbal incense /what a pleasure/ & red roses compete with heavy and intoxicating jasmine blossoms. And what is even better – this scent is spiced with aromatic cloves & warmed up with mild sandalwood. And I´m in love. Definitely.
In sum, I think this fragrance should be tested in a cold & humid weather because then this scent reveals all its deeper & darker facets that make it so beautiful & irresistible.

WOW, this is one incredible fragrance. I have worn Coco for years, yes I am a guy. I read that Brad Pitt also loves and wears Coco eau de Parfum. If a man can easily wear Coco, a man MUST wear Coco Noir. Coco Noir is warm, spicy, sexy, intriguing and very similar to Coco, but there is an underlying “greenness” that comes out, especially in the beginning. When I first apply Coco Noir, and I know this might sound odd to some, but I get a very prominent whiff of vintage (and awesome) Magie Noire 🙂 Coco used to be a Powerhouse, but of course since the 80’s it has been reformulated. Luckily, it still smells almost the same but longevity and sillage are not strong anymore. Coco Noir lasts longer, much longer, on me. Coco Noir is a Chanel Masterpiece!

All I can say .. is that its EFFIN BEAUTIFUL ! ! ! You guys said it, Elegant, Mysterious, Luxurious. Its nice there’s always something you can wear that immediately injects that “Non cocky, unafraid of anything” type of confidence, without the sweet-girly-fruity-sometimes described as slutty-attention seeking from the fellas. . Which i must admit, as the average girl, like to blanket myself with those kinds of scents, too.
    Coco Noir is something special.

Mysterious, elegant, yet not as dark as the name and appearance suggest, this beautiful creation is surprisingly wearable, mostly as an evening scent, yet might be worn even during daytime and it could be suitable for many occasions.
As a highly sensitive person I really have to be careful with heavy scents, since most of them give me an instant headache , finding a heavy scent I can actually wear, feels like winning the lotery! This beauty is an exception and I’m very happy I’m able to wear it, I only need to apply it lightly.
Coco Noir is by far my favorite scent from the Chanel mainstream line.
If you haven’t tried this beauty yet, you’re in for a treat, I highly recommend it!

This one is really nice. I get a soft smokey fragrance. I am surprised to see there is no incense note listed. It also smells a bit sweet and clean. It not as dark as the name and bottle imply.
I think it is a well blended fragrance and even though it is light, i think it is kinda complex.
I like the slightly sweet smoke with the cleanness. It really makes this fragrance stand out.
This is one of the few Chanel fragrances that i would gladly wear.
I don’t think this is a sexy perfume, and it is not really office appropriate. I imagine someone wearing it maybe at the airport, maybe at an art gallery…
Sillage is close to the skin, but it resists a shower.

  47. :

In the opening is balsamic then sweet rosy yet spicy is quickly appear. From top to the bottom are grapefruit, roses, patchouli and bean. Not much different compare to Coco Mademoiselle. In past 4 years, it is very potent, rich and strong perfume but now a day, it is really modern, I can say, it is sexy and sensual, by the way, I love it very much
I can’t wait to try Coco Mademoiselle Intense, soon

  48. :

    4 out of 5

It took me while to appreciate this one. Noir is very fresh and clean but not dark at all. Actually I can describe Noir as a cheerful fragrance but not playful, bubbly or candy like. That would be Chance from Chanel. The bottle is very very chic but doesn’t reflect the character of this perfume.I get mostly vanilla and citrus from Noir which to me is very elegant but not distinctive among other Chanel perfumes. I really thought for a while to buy one for myself but I think I prefer Coco over this which is more old school and classic. Noir is more like a modern elegant perfume.

  49. :

Love this! A warm,woodsy,spicy/sweet and feminine scent. Classy and absolutely captivating. I ordered shower gel and body lotion because I can’t get enough of it. I need a Coco Noir body suit! 😀

  50. :

I have already reviewed this fragrance but I have to add something. If anyone has the chance to smell the body lotion, please do – the lotion, not the cream. It is divine and pure luxury and smells like what Coco Noir should smell like. There is heavy emphasis on the orange note and the underlying salt adds a sweet softness. You will not be disappointed!

  51. :

Grapefruit, bergamot, francincense, geranium, rose, patchouli, fruit and an added kick of sandalwood. My nose is very confused. The individual notes don’t come together for me. On my skin, this fragrance lacks cohesion. A cacophony of notes but no melody. Y vanilla or tonka that might be in this fragrance, is not not noticeable to me.I have been known in the past to change my opinion on these grand-dames of fragrance, but I have given CN several chances and have come to the same conclusion each time. This Chanel is not for me.

  52. :

    3 out of 5

For me it is a classic and unisex parfum. My skin brings out first the spicy side of this fragrance, especially cloves and then garanium and narcissus. Strangely the fresh citrus top notes come after a couple of hours and quite intensively. The balsamic sweet base is strongly present on me at the end of the day.
I love the bottle, because it suggests a sweet, balsamic and woody parfum with strong personality, but it doesn’t fit to the parfum I smell on my skin.
A very interesting evaporation process on me what I’ve never had before but there is too much contrast between the different phases for me.
I expected a more envelopping and creamy blast as a whole.

  53. :

    5 out of 5

Oh, how Coco Noir makes my heart ache. It took me over a year to wrap my nose around it and fully understand it. Having gone back and forth between complete disgust and absolute adoration, I’ve settled on the latter. Coco Noir is the smell of inward confidence, of self assurance and actualization. Determined, headstrong, demanding, yet somehow still demure and sensitive. I am completely in love with the fragrance and the way it makes me feel when I wear it, but there is so much to be desired quality-wise. While its sheerness is part of its character, I wish more than anything that I got more than a couple of hours of performance on both skin and fabric alike. It has such an interesting combination of textures: something honey-like and viscous, smoky and weightless, lemony and aqueous, rosy and gauzy…but it all fades too quickly. Shame, but I can’t help but fall in love with it again and again.

  54. :

Very recognisable Chanel. The patchouli accord in Coco Noir is the same as in Coco Mademoiselle, Chance and Allure Sensuelle; however it’s different from Coromandel (that one is smoother, powdery).
It’s a very understated, sophisticated, elegant perfume. It’s not noir in the modern sense of perfume advertising, it’s French noir. It brings to mind a night stroll by the Seine, in November, a quiet chilly late Fall weekday. When nothing huge happens but you are in Paris, and that’s enough. In a similar way, Coco Noir has it all, without screaming it’s presence. Rose, patchouli, earthy dryness. My only complaint is its average sillage and longevity, otherwise it’s beautiful.

The DNA of Coco Mademoiselle is in this one, but deeper, sexier, and “darker” as if Coco M has an older and “naughty” sister 🙂 I love them both!

Note to Chanel. I adore and love Coco. So when you attach the “Noir” to the Coco Chanel name I’m expecting a fragrance that is darker, richer and deeper, as is suggestive of the name. A fragrance evocative of the mysterious night. I would have enjoyed a dark spicey rose, patchouli gourmand type of fragrance, sadly this is more of a gray shadow, a lighter version of Coco. Disappointment. This fragrance is a shadow to Coco rather than noir, should have named it Coco Ombre. It’s still a lovely fragrance, just not what I was expecting, given the name.

If someone said, “Hey! Try this perfume with patchouli and rose!” I would’ve 100% declined. Luckily, I gave it a chance and ended up really liking it. I now own a full bottle and my favorite part is the dry down.

I’m using the second 100ml bottle & also have the 35ml version (in the purse).
In the beginning – the scent is very strong, it might even remind sexy masculine perfumes. It’s oriental and oily, but quickly softens.
Later, you are left with a balmy, warm and sexy veil of mystery.
For me it’s like “Mother” of Coco Mademoiselle (which sits right next to Noir on my perfume-shelf), as some notes are the same. But while Coco M. is way lighter and ‘easier’ & I can wear it day-night / summer-winter; NOIR is more ‘serious’, deeper and heavier.
I love smelling my clothes & hair the next day, as it is still present and gives off the best.
    I love the perfumes.
It might be useful to you, that I also:
<3 love: Lancome Hypnose, Dolce & Gabbana BY, Olympea Intense
like: Gucci by Gucci, Gucci Guilty, Hypnotic Poison, Black Opium

The only legitimate reason for this to be called “noir” is that it makes the bottle look bloody gorgeous. The black, the gold and the Chanel logotype is just so aesthetically pleasing to me, and will be the figurehead of any respected vanity.
Anyways, this is my absolute favourite from the Coco fragrances, and I think it’s because the lemon balances out the patchouli in this perfectly. I struggle to wear Ropions “Portrait of A Lady” sometimes, because it reminds me of someone layering the same heavy perfume on musty clothes for several years. (Aaah patchouli, what a moody lover you can be)
But Coco Noir manages to be very classy and feminine in the same way that POAL does, but without the slightly moist furcoat vibe going on.
A deep, dark rose with patchouli and sandalwood base, and a fresh trail of lemoncest and green crisp geranium is what I get. One of my favourite “vamped up” fragrances. Always feel a bit extra with this one on. Great big thanks also to the hubby who gifted me the 100 ml bottle for christmas. Needless to say that he did well. Very well indeed.

Quite disappointed with this purchase. My first chanel bottle ever. Nothing noir or dark about this.

The fact that 4 people likened this to Shalimar Souffle de Parfum shows that people will find similar notes in things, and because of this say ‘wow! smells EXACTLY like it!’
Really nothing alike. Shalimar SDP is not like any Chanel.
oh yeah, and I found this to be okay. Nothing great, nothing horrid. Patchouli & rose … can’t go wrong, I guess.

I am going through a big pile of gifted samples and Coco Noir is one of them. I’m pretty sure I’ve never sniffed a Chanel. I am not as enamoured by the brand as so many people are (though I do love ol’ Karl).
On each sample I have been writing a note and I’ve put a YES or NO about whether I want to buy it.
This is firmly in the NO pile. I don’t know where the “noir” is supposed to come from. It isn’t even an overly complex floral to my nose. It does shift from opening quite bright and sunny with the citrus, and then quickly veers sweet and generic after a brief plastic spell (is this the rose?). Drying down it becomes even sweeter – not resinous at all…I suppose it’s vanilla. It somehow becomes stronger in it’s generic-ness. Completely safe and forgettable. Why bother?

To the last two reviewers who have longevity issues: in my opinion Coco Noir smells extremely similar to Chance by Chanel but Chance lasts longer. The initial spray is different but the dry down is pretty close. If you Luke the scent but not the fleeting quality of Coco Noir give Chance a try.

I was in the market for a new office friendly perfume having just finished a bottle of Madamoiselle. I decided to give this one a try instead of sticking to my tried and tested workhorses. Sadly I can’t seem to get any performance out of this. Forget 9-5, this doesn’t even make it to the lunch hour! Barely lasts 3 4 hours on my skin (and clothes) and I’m being generous. The poor longevity makes it too expensive for its price considering the beast that Madamoiselle and even Chance (the original one) are. Plus you have to douse yourself in it to get any projection and lasting power from it so the pricey pricey bottle is draining at warp speed. Too bad because I do really like the smell. Won’t be buying this guy again.

Coco Noir is my biggest disapppiontment ever! I purchased a small bottle of 35ml and honestly, I can ‘t smell it, it is undetectable on my skin. Other people can smell it on me, but only very faint. I douse myself in it and then I get a whiff of sandelwood en some faint patchouli, but that is it.
I am just so upset spending my hard earned
