Description

The Chanel No 5 Eau de Parfum was created by Jacques Polges in 1986 as another interpretation of the iconic original fragrance introduced by Coco Chanel and created by Ernest Beaux in 1921.

Top notes include neroli, ylang-ylang, peach, bergamot and aldehydes. Middle notes include fresh jasmine, lily of the valley, iris and may rose. Base notes capture deep blend of Mysore sandalwood, vetiver, moss, patchouli and Bourbon vanilla.

Carole Bouquet became the face of the fragrance.

Does anybody else only spray this when no one is around and play Tino Rossi or an old 1950s movie? Lol
I feel like Chanel no. 5 is an acquired taste. Only for people who don’t associate it with old ladies. I also personally think it’s the best Vintage fragrance, besides English Prominade of course 😉

Timelss, sexy, classy, clean, ladylike and feminine. I love The aldehydes and The roses. A perfume who has earned a place on every womans bathroom shelf. Longevity and silage is average. Its so inoffensive and yet stylish and soft. Makes me feel like Marylin Monroe in a good way. Love love love

Not quite as I remember it, but still gorgeous. It takes my breath away – in a good way.

All my life, I’ve gone after perfumes with certain notes. “Best musky perfumes?” “Best patchouli?” “Best vanilla?” With these questions, I built my list of must-haves. As you can imagine, it was extensive.
Little did I know I wanted something that, at least to my nose, I can hardly describe in terms of notes.
This scent makes me feel like I’m in a warm bath filled to the brim with bubbles and luxurious oils. While it’s true this scent is VERY clean, there’s a humanness to it. It’s almost like when you take a bath but pin your hair up, so while your body is clean but have a bit of sweat beading up on your forehead. “Clean” feels different with this scent than it does with other “clean” scents I own. This one is not astringent. Powdery, yes.. but not sterile. If it’s soap I smell, it’a a soap that’s so finely milled you’re not able to detect any bitterness. No, this is no dollar store glycerin bar. The first 30 minutes of spraying this scent is bubbly. One of the notes I can detect, aldehydes, dance around. The entire concoction is so well blended I have a hard time deciding if it’s citrus I smell or if my nose is imagining it. The scent is truly an enigma.
Sayinf no. 5’s popularity is only due to a “great marketing campaign” is ludicrous. You don’t have ~100 years of popularity on marketing alone. And I work in marketing! I have almost all of the modern interpretations of this scent, from Parfum to EDT. While they’re all similar, like sisters, they can also stand on their own and are all definitely worthy to have in a collection. I imagine the vintage versions would be even more lovely.

It is indescribable how Chanel No 5 makes me feel. Few perfumes elicit such a feeling of longing and nostalgia while still feeling like a current, fresh fragrance. That is what I adore about Chanel…their perfumes are truly timeless and classic. They combine old world elegance with modern sensuality. I can imagine Marilyn Monroe luxuriating in this fragrance back in the 50s and it doesn’t feel out of place to wear it today, not at all.
The aldehydes in No 5 are so soapy and lush. Sexy and clean. Smooth ylang and fuzzy white florals compliment and give a sunny, golden aura. There is also a fresh baby powder note that provides a bit of comfort, like a fluffy warm sweater fresh from the dryer.
I own a bottle from last year, made in France, and it is incredibly strong stuff. I have a vintage from the 90s on the way and am eager to see the differences.. but for now my new bottle serves me well, I don’t feel this to be a weak reformulation at all. Maybe the vintage will be too much.. we shall see!

N°5 Eau de Parfum is a grand dame. She is definitely not what she used to be in the 90s, though. No where near as strong. People could tell me that it’s all to do with my memory but I have a large decant, given to me by a friend from her 100mL splash bottle (in that heavy, heavy crystal) and it is something entirely different. Apply it to the skin and it could last for DAYS. N°5 EdP current fades in a matter of minutes. Sad. Gone are the days of grandeur.

I have been liberally applying Eau Premiere all summer and wanted to try the grand dame herself…but to me it just smells like Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere mixed with Dana Chantilly, with a bit more depth. Not the powerhouse I was expecting, but a love nonetheless.

2018 Chanel N°5 EDP / Eau de Parfum
A pale shadow of its former self! The aldehydes have been cut down to almost nothing, it’s become the perfect weak watered down spineless N°5 version for women who always loved N°5 but were too intimidated to wear it but now they can easily pull if off. As far as I’m concerned, N°5 EDP is dead, I only wear the pure Parfum which is still relatively good.

Up till now, I’ve not bothered to give a review of No. 5 since, at first, I didn’t like it very much, even though I know it’s a classic that includes excellent perfume ingredients.
I thought – why upset all its dedicated fans with my negative response to it?!
But the only people I might upset here today are those who believe that perfumes don’t change according to skin chemistry. I think they do when a high degree of naturals or absolutes, alongside aroma chemicals, are used. This was a theory born out by Elena Vosnaki (of Perfume Shrine) who speculated that aroma chemicals tend to remain more ‘stable’ or unchanging into drydown in contrast to natural absolutes or similar (and Vosnaki knows her stuff!)
Having experienced the silage of Chanel No. 5 recently on someone who suited it to a ‘T’! I get it now – I really get the enduring appeal of Chanel 5.
This occurred a few days ago when I’d arrived by plane and was being picked up by the two gallery owners (husband and wife team) who were hosting my exhibition (I’m a painter). As soon as I entered their car I was enveloped in a dewy, intense and classy cloud of Chanel 5.
You’d think that, having not been a fan before, I wouldn’t welcome the scent, but I did. So I said ‘mmm, lovely – I’m smelling a Chanel I think – No 5?’.
You could almost have heard them both purr – it turns out that he loves perfumes and has a super sensitive nose, he’d first bought it for his wife years ago and it became an enduring mutual favourite.
Now why did I appreciate it now when I didn’t before? I’ve smelled it on many other women, but on one it smelled musty, on another it smelled cold and prissy (which is incidentally the effect it probably has on my cool, dry Scottish skin! Most probably aldehydes and lily of the valley not melting as they would on warmer or more oily skin).
I’m now convinced absolutely that this sort of perfume works with skin type or chemistry.
I also thought the style of Chanel 5 suited this woman – a neat, classic, minimal dresser with straight ash blonde hair and an eye for detail and aesthetics (her husband was more the business-minded marketer of the two). Also I’d say a strong conscientious streak with an innate conservatism.
Is that not your quintessential Chanel 5 woman?!
The two other women I know well who wear it a lot are more grounded bohemian types – it doesn’t quite work. But because Chanel 5 is seen as a feminine classic they wore it regardless of how it suited them I suppose.
Just goes to show that there’s a Chanel out there for everyone – my own is Chanel 19 in pure parfum, since my skin loves orris/iris and leather – powdery notes don’t get cloying on me, and narcissus has an animalic, maybe buttery intense edge that also works nicely with cool skin. The effect straight from the bottle is bitter green, but it develops into a soft, powdery, porcelain-like green scent on skin.
Interestingly Chanel 19 on my sister turns a touch bitter then disappears, but she really suits tropical white florals with a hint of spice – I think it’s because she has warm oily skin.
I could go on with these observations but anyway you get my drift – Chanel No 5 is fabulous on the right person!
I also wonder whether she was wearing pure parfum – I know it exists in No 19, so presumably also in No. 5 (I do know these are still different from the original pre-80’s versions).
And the moral of the tale is – when it comes to perfumes containing natural absolutes, it has to suit you. To me that’s the most fun part of perfume – wearing and testing.

Simply fantastic. The modern incarnation lacks something of the original, I think but it is still a wonderful perfume. My mother loved this perfume and was given a large bottle not long before she died, which I still have and use regularly. I also use the body spray and body lotion and and was very sad when Chanel stopped selling the shower gel version.
The perfume lasts for several hours and whilst strong is not overpowering and I adore it!

I first experienced this perfume at 16 when my mother was given a bottle. I had a lovely boyfriend and would spray this on slyly before going out. I thought it smelt like warm, honey tea – no big deal. But I found that it changed into something ethereal over time, sensual, pretty, powdery, just lovely.
This is my memory from 30 years ago. This perfume has that special something, its hard to explain. All I know is that it needs to be worn for the magic to be experienced. The magic is in its development.
I love smelling this fragrance on my clothes – its divine!

For some time I wondered why I don’t like and don’t wear this perfume like I used to before. In the 1990ties it was the ultimate perfume for me, far ahead of any other. Suddenly, I realized it must be reformulation in the last years that ruined the aura this legendary scent used to have. What happened? Before, it was this oily consistency, not really in the material sense of the word. But you had feeling that perfume flows around your wrists or chest or wherever you put it. I can’t remember any other perfume doing this trick, perhaps Allure. And that what flowed and travelled around your skin was like liquid gold. Warm, full, glowing. Now, it’s the other story. Still good, especially after first, rather unpleasant smell of glue goes away. After that it settles down pretty intensely on you, with the feeling that it’s something strange and stiff, although beautifully rounded and composed, like a ring that is valuable and you see the craft but you still think it is not your style and go for something more soft and closer to your personality. I am so sorry that this happened.

I do not believe anything really smells like an old lady , and I am now an old lady . My grandmother ( who raised me ) always smelled good and I never thought she stunk because she wore a lady fragrance . She wore Youth Dew and a few things from Woolworth’s .
I do remember this fragrance as a child being worn by my aunts . I also remember smelling it in the bottle and it burned my nose . I thought it was harsh , cold and sterile . I still do , though I respect those who find it inspiring , as well as the house of Chanel . ( I love Allure and Coco EDPs ) .

my office friend said it smell like incense.

    soap heaven
a snowy morning relaxing in your home…lost in a great book which transports you to a magical place
somehow it also smells very salty….like the air on a stormy beach
however this might only be the memories that it triggers for me…years ago I went to a touristic beach in the south for the new year’s holidays (in my country it is at the beginning of spring)…it was there that I smelled No. 5 for the first time and bought a decant…throughout the nice ride that we had that day on the beach road, this is what I wore, while I had my window down, and the smell of No 5 was perfectly mingling with the breeze coming from the sea
the next day when we were out, an unexpected rainstorm started, and the same street flooded in a few minutes…people had to abandon their cards and stand on the highway bridge….for about an hour that we were up there, I was feeling humbled by the powerful beauty of nature, and enjoying the sight of the stormy sea waves crashing forcefully into the beach rocks
No. 5 may not smell natural…but for me it is forever reminiscent of the forces of nature

I’ve always avoided this because so many claim it smells like old lady. I don’t get that. I sorta get beachy sunscreen. A fizzy neroli with a vanilla-licorice base. It smells like butterscotch. The soapiness reminds me of a bath soap I used as a kid. A very nostalgic smell. I’m 19 but I could definitely see myself wearing this one. Idk why they don’t make more nice perfumes like this anymore. The whole Chance line smells like frebreeze to me.

    Hiya DomfromBE
I’m so glad to hear you love Chanel no 5 EDP , amazing isn’t it.
I can’t answer your question about new formulas as I’ve not got a new one yet ! ( will soon just to try so will get back to you on that) I’m lucky enough to own most of Chanel no 5 items , soap , EDP, edt , parfum, dusting powder, elixir , eau premiere etc , I was given some as gifts and others I spent ages on the Bay bidding for as part used to try blind.
The vintage EDP version is so lovely and rich but I must try a new version just to see what’s changed !
I was very young in the 80s but I still love some of the music and TV shows that were around then !
By way I recommend the after bath powder it is very very scented and is a very sweet version of no 5, just lovely, also the lotion/body cream can help lock in your perfume and make it last more !!

@ camden-girl What a N°5 Encyclopedy you are but I really would like to have your opinion on the current batches of your favourite and grondly known perfume.
I was deeply in love with the pre 2015 EDP, heavy sandalwood, vanilla, overwhelming soapy cloud. Now, I sadly can’t anymore… It’s too weak for me (have to say that I’m an heavy sprayer in my late 40es, have more than well known the 80es, lol).
    Greetings from Belgium.

Sadly I have avoided this lovely perfume for years because it is my least favorite aunt’s signature scent, but recently I was in a duty-free shop and I decided to give it a try. I must say it smells totally different on me and I love it, it smells clean, fresh and beautiful. I am sorry I have avoided this wonderful juice for so long, it will now always have a place in my collection and I am going to wear it often, just not to family events.

Because YES I’m reviewing again haha !
    EDP old version 80s
    Omg
    Wowsers!!
This is more licoricey , more dark and slightly spicy and jammy than the wonderful edt , edt by way is lovely , but
My EDP was at back of my collection so had not sniffed
This one for a few months….a few seconds ago I did ….
Boy oh boy , even my long suffering ( constantly forced by me to perfume smell ) hubby thought this was the business !
He said ” ooooh that’s my favourite”
    I couldn’t agree more 🙂
If you can get a sealed box with no ingredients or a short list only GET it !
    STUNNING !!!

I’m not sure how I feel about this perfume. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I think the first hour is the best part – with the bright, sparkling aldehydes. It’s the powdery drydown that I struggle with. Also, this seems a bit different to me each time I wear it. I think I will have to spend more time with it. But as of right now, I won’t be purchasing a bottle.

THAT was Chanel No 5? I thought I’d never smelled this before and was excited to try out such a classic. I walked into a Sephora and doused myself in the stuff only to find myself running away from the overpowering “mature woman” smell I’d associated with my great grandmother (who I had assumed must have lost her olfactory sensitivities). Yikes. I’d definitely smelled it before. When someone’s searing, powdery, overwhelming smell makes you want to leave the room? It’s probably this. I could still smell it after a shower!! If only the new generation of perfumes were built to last like this one.

Its Chanel no5, what can i say that hasn’t been said over and over already?
Ive always loved Chanel no5, always.
And I know the one i bought recently is not what it once was, but its still a beautiful scent, i think the reason a lot of women wear this exclusively is because its just so easy to wear, its classy, feminine, a little bit of everything really; not overbearing but still loud enough to be noticed.
I actually think that if you want the true old school No5 smell but dont wanna fork out for vintage prices, then a good quality dupe would be ok, they are made to smell like the real deal, not the new reformulated versions that are out now, i tried one in a chemist and it had that really unique drydown that the older chanel once had and it costed all of about 12 dollars.
What i do is layer the edp with the edt; the edt has a lot of the notes from the first no5 edp so it resembles the good old stuff.

I resisted buying this fragrance for a while before finally acquiring it. My first Chanel fragrance is Allure EDP and I love its sophisticated but soft floral scent. Then I added Coco Mademoiselle EDP and Sycamore followed to my collection. After a while I finally brought No. 5 home and I must admit at first, I did buy it for my Chanel collection rather than its scent. Very aldehydic floral notes that give the perfume a heavy scent but also makes it my most “grown up” fragrance. Classic, elegant and sexy is what Chanel No. 5 represents. Happy she is part of my Chanel fragrance family.

Chanel No.5 has a lovely opening. I tried it on at the counter at the mall and loved the classic scent and bought a bottle. The woman at the counter had the lotion and rubbed it all over my forearms and hands. By the time I got home the dry down was aldehyde, powder overload. I’m allergic to some talc in powder. I had to immediately scrub it off. I also got an awful headache. Just chemistry? I don’t know it’s just not for me. Returned it unopened the next day. The scent smell memory has actually affected my dislike of many fragrances.

I once had Chanel N5 and loves the scent at first spray. The scent also have good chemistry with my body, but unfortunately i can’t wearing this perfume even only for special event.
until i found out the reason, that maybe because my age, i’m 23 and Chanel N5 kind of classic fragrance that usually wear by more mature women. So i decide to kept the perfume. But my neighbor knows that i have this gem in my vanity desk and wouldn’t wearing it.
She is 45+ and seems like she’s really want this baby, so i sold it to her. However i still left my heart for Chanel N5 and definitely will repurchase again when my nose ready for it.

This is very sad for me.
I took one from the Airport 2 years ago
and WAS reformulated and my bottle lasted
    for 1 week.
It is a shadow of the true masterpiece it used to be.
Such a waste of money and you have to spray at least 10 times just for a “body mist”?? An EDC as you’re saying.
I wanted it to be my signature but…
You can try Chanel no22 from the Exclusive line from 2015.
So very sorry.I just wanted it so badly.
    I have a bottle of No5 but…

I remember even back in 2012, this used to last longer. However, my bottle seems to be almost shiny new. Barely lasts 3 hours. May put it away for a while. That being said, the scent is pretty close to what I remember my grandmother wearing 15 odd years ago. It really is indescribable- it’s just N°5. One of the loveliest examples of popular designer fragrance. Reminds me a little more of the Eau de Cologne than the EDT, but that’s just me. Beautiful jasmine and aldehydes. Powdery, fresh out of the shower feel – with a little animalism.

I realize what I’m about to say has already been said – but I’m going to say it again anyway.
It is insane how reactive this perfume is with different skin chemistries. On me, an initial 10 min blast of soapy/clean comforting aldehydes, then turns to sandalwood/sunscreen, and ultimately dries down to an almost gourmand vanilla. Hardly any florals on my skin. Its gorgeous.
On my sister, it is pure powdery rose/jasmine, not a hint of vanilla. On one of my guy friends – pure woods, bergamot, and vetiver. The only thing in common is the initial aldehyde blast. Basically, what I’m trying to say is sample this before buying – the scent can completely change based on skin chemistry.
On a side note – I sprayed this on my neck then applied unscented pressed powder foundation, and the perfume began to smell of lemons! Very reactive. Have fun experimenting!

Today, I tried Chanel No.5 EDP, EDT & L’eau. This one grasps me.
I had Coco Chanel before, the first perfume I bought for myself in 1989 with my first pay check. I thought I would still be a Coco Chanel girl, I love Coco, but didn’t have the resources to own one since those carefree days.
So today, I craved a bit of luxury, I smelt Chanel No.5 on a client yesterday, she said she uses No.5 edp, edt, hair mist and body lotion. She smells Class.
Once, many months ago, during a visit, she sprayed some of that hair mist on me and I was charmed and transported from a dreary working girl to a rich socialite in an instant.
So today, I tried all 3…..I like edt but it doesn’t hold, 2 hrs and gone with the wind, edp is a lot richer and last longer on me….
One day, one day, I will own one……
Every woman, no matter how working class, needs a little self love and luxury in life, There’s only so much chocolate a girl can eat to feel better, but chocolate and Chanel No. 5, now, that goes a loooong way…..
    Dreams are free….

@ klix27 You are right. After 2015, Chanel N°5 EDP is ridiculously watered down: projection is gone and it turns into a skin scent whithin the two hours. When it was released (1986) and up the early 2000’s, it was a power house of a scent.
FYI, I’m not into sniffing after dabbing. I’m an heavy sprayer and enjoy a scent that makes a cloud around me, not “office friendly” at all.

  35. :

Doesnt last long like it used to be decades ago even though EDP. While the smell is good, i doubt its lastingness and sillage is very poor. And every year Chanel keeps increasing the price… unjustified.

I’ve had a love/hate (mostly hate) relationship with this fragrance for many years. It just never seemed to be “the” one for me. As much as I tried to love it, it simply didn’t love me back – at least not for very long – until now.
Now, we can’t seem get enough of each other! Clean, crisp, sophisticated and oh, so very feminine! Maybe I had to “grow” into it? No matter what the reason, No 5 is absolutely divine!
I’m a little disappointed that it doesn’t seem to last as long as expected (or as long as it has in the past). But…perhaps layering with the body cream, will help solve that problem.
So happy to be part of the Chanel No 5 club! Even if it did take nearly 40 years to get there!

Classic perfume but just because it classic doesn’t mean it is a must have. I don’t like this one bit. I prefer Coco Mademoiselle because its vanilla notes on the dry down. Chanel perfumes are very strong. I would only go the Chanel Chance route or Mademoiselle route while dealing with any Chanel perfumes.

You’re a bar of soap in a porcelain bathroom, the lemon-scented bleach eating through a janitor’s shoes, the dust-covered collection of tar and chemicals left in a barn. The acidic, the abrasive, the bitter, the powder. You’re the crippling headache in a department store and the distinct memories of getting them every Sunday afternoon as a child. You’re the one thing people think of when they talk about hating perfume. You’re absolutely definitive. You’re absolutely timeless. Chanel N°5 by Chanel.

This is far weaker than the original no 5 toilette even. This is possibly because it’s missing the animalic notes. The added peach note is interesting, but if you want bang for your buck, go with the original.

Friend let me try hers. It’s very old-style soapy and you can immediately tell it wasn’t designed or conceived in this millennium. Not bad at all, if you want to project a mature/confident vibe, but aldehydes are not my got-to for that. Reminds me of some of the older Hermes frags.

  41. :

Seeing as this is considered a perennial classic, I so, so wanted to like this. I’ve tried it several times over the years, but it never quite worked for me. When I was younger, all I got was aldehydes – pungent, sterile, medicinal. The other day I wanted to give it another chance and applied it to the wrist. The aldehydes settled down soon enough, only to reveal an unpleasantly strong smell of plain baby powder. No complexity whatsoever. I’m sorry No. 5, your historical charm is lost on me.

I received no.5 eau de parfum as a gift from my husband who was visiting Paris. I have never smelled this before since they dont sell chanel in my country. I am not a fan of florals but I can say i like this perfume. Not for everyday use of course, and on my skin (in humid weather) one spritz is enough. It starts with something fresh like citrus, then the florals come, and suddenly I am enveloped with powdery satin. I told my husband I wanted the EDT but he bought me the EDP…. which is very strong indeed. This will be a dearly loved in my perfume inventory. Not to be used till the last drop, but as a fragment of memory of my husband and I, and his journey.

  43. :

    5 out of 5

I’ve had this in my collection for about 10 years and it just never smelled right to me. It’s definitely authentic. I just thought it wasn’t quite the No. 5 experience I expected each time I sprayed it on. The fact that I formed my early opinions of No. 5 from my mum’s 1980s bottle when I was young probably explains it. This version is clearly supposed to be No. 5, I wouldn’t go so far as to suggest it should be a different perfume – it’s like a fraternal twin perhaps. And I’m not nose trained enough to comment on individual notes that are different from the original. It’s just… a bit different. Still a lovely perfume, and still very No. 5-ish. But if you’re expecting the original (not that 1980s is original, but it’s closer) you may be left feeling slightly unsatisfied. If you have no pre-formed opinions and have never smelled other versions, you’ll most likely be very happy, as I said it’s still lovely in its own right.
Sometimes I feel like banging on with the whole “they don’t make perfumes like they used to” theme gets a bit old and annoying, like anyone who hasn’t experienced the older versions is missing out and those who have experienced them are somehow privileged and a bit special. It’s just that scent is so evocative of memories, and if you have special memories, like of your childhood and your mummy smelling pretty and everyone’s happy lah lah lah, it’s disappointing when you can’t get that scent quite right to take you back there. And soooo darn thrilling when the scent is just right and you’re whirled away in a time machine for a few moments.

I finally went to a Sephora (don’t have one in my small town) and smelled this. Yes, it’s everything I hoped and wanted it to be. Simply put, it smells like a classy rich lady. I’m not one (maybe some day), but why shouldn’t I smell like one. It’s going straight to my wish list. Also, it’s not some wishful thinking on my part, I was expecting not to like it after I heard so many negatives about it, I was expecting a sharp, bitter aldehydic nightmare (In fact two of my friends warned me that it smells like …you know…o** l**y, in fact they used a harsher word :()and I also didn’t like the other Chanels I tried. It’s truly wonderful.

I can’t believe how much I love this perfume now. I never thought I would own a bottle of No. 5. Yes, it has been reformulated but it’s wonderful. Classy, elegant, powdery, clean….the list goes on. The longevity isn’t the best but that is typical of new perfumes. I just have to spray more heavily if I want it stronger and to last longer.

I’m pleased I have this classic scent (although reformulated) in my collection but I wear it very rarely. I am 26 and although, in my opinion, perfume has no age or gender restrictions I feel it doesn’t suit my personality. I love this scent but mostly because I have fond memories of many important people in my life wearing it and still do, it just is not for me yet, maybe I will grow into it.

Too mature for my tastes. 40+ age group I’d say. Perhaps 30’s if you’re a mature high power business-type, not a youthful scent.

The Eau de Parfum edition selling at every Macy’s is my mother’s favorite and signature perfume. On her it’s absolutely beautiful. As for myself I prefer Chanel No 22 and Coco to this but I recognize it’s beauty and it’s appeal. No 5 has long been regarded as being the best fragrance for women ever made. Besides it’s history as the first aldehyde, and as Ernest Beaux’s masterpiece which launched Gabrielle Chanel’s perfume line, No 5 has long been associated with our grandmothers and mothers. It has become much more than a perfume but a part of the household. Whether one likes it or not, No 5 has achieved a status as a fragrance that transcends times, culture, sex, age, geography and social class, when at one time it was the crème de la crème of French couture. I bought the EDP as a Christmas present for my mother sister and myself but we have agreed to wear it at different times and never at the same time at the same place. That would be like wearing the same outfit at the same place at the same time. Whenever I inhale the scent from the bottle, other than the technicalities of notes that pop up like opening up a champagne – aldehydes, neroli, citrus, lemon, ylang ylang, rose, vanilla – this perfume has a magical time capsule effect on me. It does not smell old fashioned old lady to me. It just smells like time travel. It immediately brings to mind, to my mind, a specific image. I think of a beautiful glamorous 1920’s or 1930s glamour girl, a movie star, a lounge singer in a form fitting gown of gold or copper lamé, gloves, lipstick, diamond earrings. She sparkles. It’s a Cinderella moment like literally changing rags into a princess gown. Once you put on the perfume you have been transformed from an ordinary or even obscure existence into a celebrity.
Opens with aldehydes and citrus which are quite strong and perfumy. This perfume has been called ‘soapy’ or similar to luxurious soap but I feel this soapy quality comes through as it’s dry not when it’s fresh. The freshness o
