I don’t really consider this line for the body, after testing. They smell more like linen mists for spritzing on your pillow. The kind you get at hippie shops and later regret buying. No complexity. Just herbs.

The Aveda Chakra balancing body mists are intended to be functional fragrances. Each one has a mission explicitly stated on the label. In the case of Chakra 4, which features sandalwood, mandarin, and palmarosa, the mission is harmony, which is apparently “what you feel when the heart chakra is balanced.”
These compositions are based on ancient Indian Ayurvedic practices, and to be honest, I do not appear to be capable of distinguishing the particular alleged aromaology effects from one to the next Chakra. Maybe that’s because one cannot feel grounded without being in harmony or … To me, these creations all smell earthy and natural. Simple but satisfying, and perfect sleep scents because they never, ever induce in me the sense that I am poisoning myself.
All natural and produced using organic essences, they also smell very good, provided that one is into natural scents–or perhaps I should say provided that one has become disenchanted with scarily abstract, laboratory-synthesized molecules bearing no clear relation to any plant in existence. Maybe it’s just the power of suggestion, but I do feel good when I wear the Chakras. Maybe it doesn’t matter if it’s only a placebo effect. It works!
This entry in the series, Chakra 4, has a somewhat astringent quality to it which reminds me of the bitterest of geranium. The composition also seems rather tangy, so I wonder how this would work on some people’s skin–it could end up twangy. I am happy to report that it holds up well on my skin even on a hot 95F day here in humid Boston. All natural colognes are my first choice in such conditions, as they do not seem to morph into the products of unwanted science experiments, which I have sometimes found with less-natural perfumes.
I wonder whether palmarosa is related to geranium? Well, in any case, this bitter but appealing floral fragrance has an invigorating and uplifting scent. I like it less than the two geranium Chakras, #2 and #6, but I still appreciate this composition and will certainly use up my 100ml bottle, one of the best bargains in natural fragrance around, especially since the longevity is easily that of an eau de toilette, not a cologne or body spray.
Come to think of it: shouldn’t all fragrance be functional anyway?

This scent is really nice. It does work to calm you down. Sometimes, I have a hard time letting go when negative things happen in my day and I can’t get them off my mind. This really does help to make you feel more at peace. As with all the Aveda Chakra scents, while they are pleasant, they are not really what I would use as a perfume. I use them as tools to help make me feel one way or another. For that, they are very good.

I find this Chakra spray is helpful in moderating feelings of hostility. It truly works! I spray it in the car when I’m struggling with “road rage”, and I spray it on myself when I know I’m going to be in people-dense environments (like clubs). It’s not that I love the scent, it is just very effective at making me feel less irritated and more calm, and for that, I love it.

#4 is the heart chakra. I purchased this around new year’s because that was something I wanted to work on for the year. Being open and more forgiving. So far it’s working. I like to spray this before I do a yoga session. It’s light and uplifting. Mandarin and sandalwood are about all I smell, it’s really nice though.
