Description

Moment of life, the image of the passing days as a carousel that rotates to the rhythm of our lives. Greedy, profligate and lovingly powerful, this fragrance takes us on a flight of notes. Energizing notes of pepper, eucalyptus, grapefruit and lemon welcome us and then we train at the heart of the sweetness of jasmine, violet, pink and Turkey lets us slide on a white background musk, amber and vanilla.

A musky, floral freshness in an explosion.

Carrousel was launched in 2014. The nose behind this fragrance is Patrick Bodifée.

The opening of this one had me really interested. It’s got a very unique eucalyptus note and the first ten minutes are really pleasant. At this point I noticed the presence of my personal kryptonite – a common aromachemical that has ruined many a niche and mainstream fragrance for me including Like This, Penhaligon’s Elixir, Pacific Mountain Temple and many more. OK, so at this point I know this frag isn’t for me but I’m still thinking I’m going to write a good review because I loved the opening so much and there’s still a lot of that left. Quickly though, everything but the aromachemical monster fades. And it is soooo strong. I don’t think I’ve encountered it at these levels before even after scrubbing and changing my shirt. Usually I just don’t like frags with this stuff in them. This time I’m nauseated.
Sadly, I have to conclude that this is one of those fragrances that put all the interesting bits in the opening and then use cheap aromachemicals to extend the rest of the frag.

Talk about a scent that makes you take notice, this is simply a great modern fragrance. The opening is peppery but honest, with grapefruit, lemons and barely tanned greens. I found the citrus musk combo to be ultra stylish and likeable for both genders. My exuberance is usually met anytime I see turkish rose in the pyramid. Surprisingly here, it wasn’t the scene stealer I’ve known it to be and I say this not to sully Carrousel but instead to add perspective. At this juncture in the fragrance, the musk created a good reputation of being appealing. In the drydown, the reputation is in tact as the musk proves better than ever. To no disadvantage are the truant notes of amber and vanilla.
