A boozy woody beauty that was one of my most complimented frags. Sweet citrus that lasted well on me. Due to my changing tastes and simply not enough days in the year to wear/try all the scents I want, this one has fallen out of my rotation. I have about 40% left of a capped, well-stored 100ml vintage bottle if anyone is interest in acquiring this classic for a song. Please PM me.

If you loved this vibe, now there is a new release from the house of Michael Kors, called Extreme Speed, put your nose on it. The opening is quiet different, but the dry down surprised me with the memories of the beautiful Canali, which was quite a masterpiece and unique frag.

    Ah “Pierre Bourdon”!
I’ve seen many of your frags evolving around “pineapple”. It seems you like it very much.
I think “pineapple” is his signature in perfumery.

I had this fragrance back in HS and went thru it like no ones business because the ladies loved it. Wishing I had this fragrance back I went on a frag-hunt look for something similar. Low and behold I found one thats near 99% similar yet better. Lancome Hypnose Homme! Go get that one while its relatively cheap and available people!

i feel your pain gypsy parfumista. i have 2 1/2 bottles left and i’ll only wear it once in a full moon:) all my ex’s love it and my current one love’s it as well. and what made it a badass cologne is it’s uniqueness and overall clean leather smell. I’ve tried to find something similar to it and found non:(. so in the beginning of 2014 i started wearing Penhaligon’s Endymion total opposite of Canali but i had to find another frag so i can savor the last two i have.

When I was a younger more starry-eyed parfumista just beginning to embrace the world of designer scents, less than a decade ago THIS particular fragrance (realized now only in hindsight) was the very first “fruity floral” manscent I had encountered; pre-Quasar and years before the advent of Aventus. I was impressed enough with it to get a sample, wear it all then swap for a nice sized decant…but opted instead for the full bottle of the even more floral sweet and musky Summer Night. This was, after all, the company’s signature scent and wouldn’t be going anywhere…would it??!
Now, today I am met with two very hard blows to my perfumed psyche: while digging through one of my many decant and sample organizers (for an AWOL sample of SL’s Santal Majuscule) I was nearly crushed when I came across the CANALI Men decant and noticed *heavy sad sigh* that there was only about 5% of the original liquid remaining-a thick light golden liquid obviously no longer EDT concentration; lying now somewhere in the neighborhood of pure parfum. Rushing to Fragrantica (in the habit of reading about whatever I am wearing, when I can while getting other members’ opinions) I kept thinking: “I can just go to Sephora’s website and order it,…free shipping too”. I get here and WOE IS ME-this is now discontinued (and, I already see, has been marked up accordingly by greedy cold-hearted online vendors…)
Having C. Summer Night (and lemming madly for the Winter’s Tale edition) and having sampled both the C. Style and the C. 1934 versions, I realize that wearing this elegant, relaxed and stylish statement scent will now be something I miss dearly. This fragrance is now analogous to that chap you knew at university and wish you had kept in touch with, then later when you miss him in your life you look him up and discover he is gone…and was someone who fit in with everyone else but had his own very unique charm.
*Review based on evaporated decant dabbed and memories of previous wearings of the EDT*
Opening in a scent cloud of Hesperidic citruses warmed with gentle velvety spice and attenuated with tart apple and sweet tangy pineapple, this surrounds in a cloud of classic freshness fleshed out with warmth and pulpiness. Very often, on my skin anyway, tropical fruits and indolic flowers can result in a strange sour “twang” that depends greatly on the supporting base notes, as to whether it’s a scrubber or not. Jasmine, normally more tawdry, is here refined and dusted with the powdery musky warmth of orange flowers balanced by the cool sweet violets. Lily completes what sounds like a white floral overload but keeps it rounded and soft with creamy petal and spicy grains of pollen, resulting in a subtle cloud of closely shaved, freshly washed and subtly powdered masculinity settling on skin.
Hints of heady yet sheer musk waft around regal woods as cool iris and earthy vetiver coalesce into a smoky leather-dominated finish, underscored with delicate sweetness. The perfumer Pierre Bourdon flawlessly wove seven possibly overpowering materials into a sensually sublime trail of erotic mystique, luxurious class and just enough “naughty” to make it all the more desirable.
Perhaps, it’s that I know it is “gone” and chose now, wafting the slowly fading heart notes preparing for its pseudo-divine dry down to begin on the last of my precious jus, to concentrate on only the good in CANALI Men…but, right now I can’t seem to notice any “bad” or remember anything other than the sigh and smile that came involuntarily every time I had previously worn it. A sigh that now is tinged with melancholy and a smile that will remain in my heart and nostrils, at having experienced this scent. Bravo and Au Revoir!
    Sillage: Moderate
    Longevity: Average to slightly above
    Overall: 3.75/5
Each and every time I see a nice suit, in say GQ or Details magazines, I look at the bottom and ultimately the ones that seem to go with everything and never really look “out of style” are, more often than naught, Canali. They may look like just any other suit, and their scents may seem or “read like” many others, but one wearing SHOULD change your mind. I am kicking myself now for buying A*Men the day I got this as a free sample since it was on sale AND I had a coupon! DOH!!
IF you have this cherish it…or, if you have it but aren’t or don’t wear it, PLEASE pass it on to someone who can and does. If it sounds good, get moving online as they are going for more and more money each time I look!
True genius is never appreciated during that lifetime-I am guilty of it myself. Posh and prim from tip to toe, but slightly wild and delightfully feral underneath, this is/was way ahead of its time and remains, at least for me, timeless.

    All Man.
    Empowering, Amazing and Unique scent.
So sad to discover it has been discontinued.
My first bottle was really inexpensive for such a great impression.
2nd bottle (still in it’s sealed box) was twice the price but worth ten times more. Now it’s a rare gem.
Excellent everyday scent for indoors and on me awesome projection and longevity in the heat of summer, day or night, casual or formal.
Canali Men…I will miss you when you’re gone.

Has anyone found a cologne that smells like this one? This was probably in my top three colognes along with Wood Oud & the black I Love NY by Bond No. 9. It’s a shame that it was discontinued 🙁 If anyone finds anything that smells close to this please post it! TY!!!

I kept thinking this was such a typical designer fruit and light wood fragrance that I’d find a zillion more like it. Looking back, though, there have been a lot fewer copycats than I expected, and I still see this one as the benchmark. It’s all alcohol at first but soon a vague sweetness appears, bringing just a drop of vanilla and a smooth, delicate, almost floral wood. It’s not strong per se, but a bit heady as the florals and some gentle herbs take over for a while. I’ve seen this routine done before, but in the other cases it’s been so harsh and synthetic that it’s offputting. Here it’s intriguingly gentle, quiet and warm. I actually smell the suede that so many contemporary designer frags claim on their note pyramids; by using the suede plus a trace of berries and fruits to compliment the wood (rather than the usual spices, resins and amber) they’ve made Canali a totally different beast. It really doesn’t evolve much at all, but I’m pretty happy with it. There’s a slight chance that it might come across as shampooey, but the effect is subtle. Honestly, I’m very glad to see that there’s a toned-down, designer analog to those opulent niche floral wood scents which everyone loves so much, but are always too much for me.

A very unique looking bottle and simple presentation. Canali has successfully captured sex in a bottle. A light fragrance that stays close to the skin and is very versatile. Pineapple, leather musk and other notes which makes it very appealing and perfect for anyone. Women love it! Unfortunately all good things come to an end as Canali has discontinued it. I hope they reconsider a remake and this will replace all my other fragrances except YSL La Nuit.

So sad that this one was discontinued. A very powerful, long lasting, and magnetic fragrance that would make people impulsively ask what I was wearing. It had the fruity and woody notes of Abercrombie’s Fierce..but..it also had rich notes of musk (LOTS OF MUSK) and leather. Lasted forever too! Savory; it would just saturate itself into your clothes..even if the slightest hint of it would get on the collar of your shirt, it would linger for days on end. I really hope the Canali label reconsiders pulling this one from the shelves for good.

Definitely a good fragrance. Very fruity in the opening, but the leather mellows it out.

When i finished my last bottle i also new it was discontinued and it was a terrible feeling. So i made many phone call and finally my day was joyful again. I had found two 50ml EDT. Classy, women love it and it suit me all year long.

Sweet mother of god..what’d happened? I bought my Canali about 2 years ago (100ml) for about $20 on ebay and just checking it today it jumped to $100-$150. Did it become a vintage scent of any sorts? It’s a real good sweet, woody fragance and I always get compliments. Only 2-4 sprays do the job for a good 6-8 hours.

So many notes, oh my! Ok, but where the hell are they?
Nice and traditional. Enjoyable Smells best when first applied. Really did not do much for me after that.
I get the Azzarro refernece (a former fave) but clearly not in the same league.
    Bottle is nicely styled.
Sillage below par and longevity right behind it.

  21. :

    Very nice indeed.
Starts with a fruity mix, but not too sweet. 20 minutes later, the best real leather I have smell anywhere. 2 Hours later, a sweet woody scent with leather still lingering.
Longevity issues, common guys, just layer it with a small amount of petroleum jelly, and Voila!, problem solved.

Wow! This is one versatile fragrance that’s almost impossible to categorize. It’s definitely not your typical Woody Floral Musk. There is some great citrus at the top, and not the typical lemon bomb either…subtle pineapple and orange, even a touch of apple. The leather is definitely noticeable from the start as well, it firmly anchors this in a very masculine way. The florals mix with the citrus wonderfully…this thing just fires on all cylinders. If I was forced to liken this to something else, I would say it kind of resembles the original Bulgari Pour Homme, in the way that it is non offensive, not really loud, but this is better if you ask me (and I love my Bulgari Pour Homme). It would make a great year round signature scent. Warm and potent enough for winter, yet light enough for summer. A winner in every category. Why this isn’t on the top of everyone’s list is beyond me. I am perfectly happy keeping this discovery all to myself, and keeping the price super reasonable on this. This is a total score! 10/10 Winner, winner, chicken dinner!
UPDATE: I do wish this had better longevity. This is the one place this fragrance could use a boost. Many of the flankers are EDP strength to make up for this, but Canali Men fades after a few hours, and reapplication is necessary if you want this to last all day.

Somehow comes out as oily smelling and medicinal on me. It’s not bad overall, but the undertones are pretty dreadful. I can wear many men’s scents, but this isnt’ one of them.

Don’t let the low pricetag fool you – Canali Men is a superb, abstract fragrance. Like Azzaro Pour Homme, it seems to contain all of the major ingredients found in masculine fragrances – wood, citrus, musk, leather, tobacco and lavender – and balances all of them perfectly to create a very manly but sophisticated scent. My only complaint with Canali, however, is that it’s kind of “safe” and is reminiscent of a lot of other fragrances I’ve smelled before (Azzaro, Must de Cartier Homme, Tuscany, Aramis, etc.) – it doesn’t take any risks. Canali Men is no Yatagan. But if you’re looking for a masculine fragrance that’s really makes you smell like a man and not like a pineapple or a plate of cookies, Canali is an excellent choice.

One woman described it as. “Thats SEX”. so I bought it. and I love it. It’s kind of a secret this one. You can spray this head to toe and it doesn’t get any stronger, but it doesn’t go away either. Very Special I’d say ok for all seasons.

This is a good classic scent. It light and more of a woody citrus fragrance on me (at least today it wears that way).
