Description

The name of the perfume Eau de Camelia Chinois has been changed to Camelia Chinois. The fragrance is aromatic floral with dewy nuances of tea, grapefruit and bergamot. The heart is composed of Nulu balsam and basil above the sensual base of sandal and musk. Camelia Chinois was launched in 1997.

Charming. A little like putting together EA Green Tea ( citrus ) and Jessica McClintock ( basil ).
This begins with grapefruit. I usually do not like this note, however it is sweeter and more like a blend of citrus with the bergamot. The tea, citrus, camellia, and basil are pleasant and last throughout.
Good longevity. Just what Spring ordered.

This is not entirely bad, I have to admit this IS very boring and doesn’t inspire any thoughts in me, but it’s kinda pleasant and refreshing, full of tea and delicate floral notes and of course citrus. There is some synthetic smelling white musk in the heart and drydown that makes this a tiiiny bit weird on me, but nothing too groundbreaking.
All in all non creative and boring everyday scent that you should buy if you see it for 30$ and not a penny more.
Silage mediocre, staying power very good – 8 hours, for this type of scent that’s at least something a bit more unique.

I never made the association between Camelia the flower and the green tea until researching for information about this fragrance. I can agree that this is a linear fragrance, but i don’t see it as a literal interpretation of tea. It seems more like an abstraction over the flowers and not the tea leaves, not at least the tea leaves that i know. It has a clean, soapy, chic aura with something green, musky and slightly sweet. At the very first minutes it seems old-fashioned, but this impression doesn’t remain. This is a fragrance that i didn’t thought i’d like but it’s another slightly, chic and fresh creation that is great on summer.

This smells of fabric softener but in a good way, I love soapy clean scents. A fresh green (somewhat bitter) start on a soft clean musk base. Long lasting for an “eau fraiche”. Lovely!
Barney’s La Route du Thé is very similar but Eau de Camélia Chinois is better IMHO.
I think Eau de Camélia Chinois started the trend of the fabric softener type of scents in the niche parfumerie. A style that was further developed a year later with AG’s Petite Cherie and more recently in the compositions of Olivia Giacobetti and Francis Kurkdjian.

I can not agree with perfumeaddict.
This is one of the best “aquatic” scent I ever had. Very unique and sensual perfume appropriate for every season and occasion. Yes, I can agree that this is not complex perfume, but I dont care – I like it as it is (sometimes less is more)!
I also had Bvlgari , but it is totaly different interpretation of tea.
This is the best “everyday” scent for me!

“Camelia Chinois” is the French name for the tea plant, and this scent is quite a literal interpretation of tea. I had hoped for something more complex (Bvlgari has certainly done a lot with the tea note!) but this is really a rather unimaginative tea scent. But in addition to the lack of creativity, there is a sharp/sour note in Camelia Chinois that I find unpleasant.
Save the money you’d spend buying an MPG scent, and buy two or three Bvlgari tea scents instead.
