I was hesitant about this fragrance upon first test because of the immediate heavy clove you get in the opening. In fact, I was quite sure that this fragrance wasn’t for me precisely because of it. The cypress is prevalent enough to provide the accord a green backbone, but the clove is really the star of the show. But stick with it because at the two hour mark the clove drops back just far enough to create one of the most deliciously creamy clove-nutmeg-cedar-sandalwood blends I’ve ever smelled. This, to me, is the true beauty of this fragrance. For the first two hours its brutish green masculinity, but from then on it’s a refined and balanced, woody green fougere. At times there is a soapy quality that comes and goes.
I’d prefer the clove bomb opening to be shorter, but over time I’ve warmed up to it and now I can pick out some of the other things going on..still, it is challenging for the first two hours. Longevity is a great 7-8 hours so if you can get past the opening there is plenty of drydown time to enjoy. Projection is a bit loud for the first hour (especially for those who are clove sensitive), then a perfect arms length or so for the next 3-4, and continues to project nicely for the remainder of its life, never really falling completely to a skin scent until the very end.
One more thing.. I don’t understand how anyone thinks this is close to Fougere Royale at all. FR is so floral and bright, and this is anything but. The florals are buried in this one and the overall accord is dark and green. I would describe FR as bright and cheery. I have (and love) both because they’re so distinctly different.

So glad I sampled this first. I love green fragrances and was over t he moon when I heard about Amouage Bracken Man. Lush forest, damp and mossy… right? Right? Um, no.
Such a disappointment. Clove bomb. That’s really all I get. Maybe some of the lavender and cinnamon. But barely. Unfortunately this is what tends to happen when clove is added to a perfume – it becomes a clove perfume. Pass.

This is nothing like Houbigant Fougere Royale.
The dry down is clove heavy.

Brilliant fragrance. Another top notch scent from the house of Amouage…… This starts off with a massive hit of cloves and then dries down to a great strong woody smell with cloves hovering in the background. This is one of the best deep forest, woody fragrances ever produced. It projects for a good 5 hours and stays on my skin for 10 hours, which is great for me. It stays on clothes for ages.
Very mature scent for a strong minded person. Good for day and evening wear for any occasion as it lets people know that you are serious minded with a playful attitude also.

Bracken Man is probably my favourite Amouage scent for men or women. It’s a soft, spicy green/woody scent that just makes one feel rugged. Or something like that, anyway. I’ve always been attracted to fragrances that star cloves and this is no exception. Where some clove fragrances are harsh and scratchy, Bracken Man levels it out with the help of a creamy sandalwood & cinnamon mix. This actually makes me think of Egoiste in a weird, far distant way. The pine in this prevents it from becoming too woodsy and brings it in to the woods. It’s a hard thing to describe, my love for this. I guess that’s a good thing.

A very polarizing fragrance, but… I love it.
The first time I have tried it a year ago, it didn’t appeal to me. Too bitter I taught. But, I revisited it recently and got a totally different experience out of it. So glad I did.
It is quite bitter and maybe a little bit harsh. A fougère, yes, but with a large amount of spices. Cloves and nutmeg really stand out on me. It is biting green, invigorating and all this stands on a refreshing woody, earthy base. A very refined take on an undergrowth after rainstorm. To me, Bracken is almost elevated on the basic accords of a fougère & a chypre. I think Bracken is extremely well done despite what some might have expected coming from Amouage. I admire the risk the House decided to take with this Midnight Flower Collection (a trio so far of Sunshine, Bracken & Beach Hut) stepping out of its already well established and respected trademark.
Not for everyone, but really worth the try.

Almost 100% the same as Fougere Royale by Houbigant. This is not as sweet but otherwise the same. I do like both. The Houbigant is much cheaper of course as far as pricing… Bracken is a sweet citrus and woody juice with hints of spice from cinnamon and clove. I really like the dry down which is a sweet wood and musk essence. Overall a winner. Enjoy!

First impressions: Great aromatic opening but all I’m really getting in the drydown is clove with a hint of cinnamon, pleasant none the less. Would make a good Autumn/Winter daytime scent.

    Today i test this perfume
You know one this about amouge is great projection and longevity but about this
    Its not really great frag
    Lets be honest :
First spray of this it has something like insence very deep alcoholic and after that its too minty and cold and feep and also its fresh but what im talking about freshness in green and plant i mean not fruity
I also get some rosemary vibe too
I love vetiver fragrance but this one is not mine its like usual old cologne of men nothing special
For me its too similar of something in old days I don’t know what
    But it’s not unique
Anyway this really great longevity about 10 hours and 3.5 hour projection
Performance is really nice but it could be better
I didnt get nice balance of this
Any way this is something thst i get maybe you like it so test it befor pay for it!
    Hope you like it.

I don’t understand how people get citrus or florals on this fragrance other than old decaying woods with nutmeg desperately trying to mask it but makes it even worse!!
Amouage bracken man would be much more ideal as a flanker to the zoologist house (which is a great fragrance line) but specifically bat which evokes the dark, dirty atmospheric vibes accentuated by various plant matter. That direction makes sense, bracken man is extremely hard to wear unless you plan on living in a forest.

Received Bracken Man from a swap and here are my thoughts:
Bracken (a tall fern); the fragrance, is just that….fern, green, fern, and more green! I think someone else might have mentioned this already, this is Sunshine Man minus the sweetness and vanilla!
I’m a fan of Sunshine Man, in fact I think it is a lovely wonderful fragrance however, I’m not sure what Amouage was aiming for here.
Maybe to bring back the mature style of fragrance with a twist, don’t know! But what I get is a dry soapy woodsy, yet lemony citrusy fragrance that is lite but pungent (and that’s with one spray…image more). As the fragrance dries down, it remains linear and sharp.
In the dry down, it remains a green scent with a barbershop feel in the end. I am more into oriental fragrances with a hint of sweetness, therefore this is not really my cup of tea. (This is not like the green in Original Vetiver, however more along the lines of Creed’s Bois du Portugal even Polo [green 90’s ] bottle…a toned down Polo-and more modern Creed’s Bois du Portugal.) If you like those, you will be a fan of this!
The wife’s first thought, “smells like something my grandmother use to wear.” Not sure if Amouage was going for that, however maybe this is hinting at the mature essence of the scent. As the fragrance continues to macerate, she gives it another smell and says, “its meh.” Well, there you have it!
Overall, a nice fragrance for what it is; artistic, linear and green. Sold my bottle; for the right person who is into green fragrances, this will be a gem!
    Performance: 7/10
    Longevity: 8.5/10
    Silage: 8.5/10
    Projection: 8/10
    Overall, I give: 6.5/10

Ordered a carded sample of this with a couple other Amouage fragrances off eBay. Ended up getting 2 Bracken even though I only ordered 1, which I’m super happy about. Between this, Sunshine and Myths, Bracken is by far my favorite. Amazing stuff. There’s something magical in the sillage.
Starts out very green and earthy, very nice smelling cypress with almost a soil vibe along with cloves and nutmeg and a little lavender to support it. Probably an earthy patchouli note is where some of the greenness come from. Then combination sounds strange, but to me it’s so magical and unique.
I’ve only sprayed it on skin twice, so can’t really comment on performance. But, I’m definitely buying a bottle, I like it that much from trying it 3 times.

Love the name Bracken, which conjures up Victorian fairy tales, and this scent hits the spot! Those stories were not fluffy pink unicornish tales, just the opposite, and Bracken just about covers it. Great contrast between earthy piney (ok cypress) forest floor and uplifting warm spice … I adore clove but not cinnamon which is masterfully blended here so the Red Hots quality is nowhere to be found. The cool / warm sensation lasts throughout, but the warm is what sticks in the drydown. Amouge scents are ( almost) always an interesting ride, and while this is a departure from the Arabian vibe, it is rich and surprising as usual. Yum! I wonder what Amouage Woman could be like but usually I like the Man scents, go figure!

Fougere Royale Houbigant

Bracken Man is another great EDP by Amouage. I love the cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg rounded by the cypress, lavender and patchouli. I don’t smell any citrus here. It’s all spicy/floral in a very well done way.
It’s very earthy which is brought on by the patchouli.
It is also herbaceous, ferny, green and mossy.
    A real winner!

    Spicy – aromatic – green
    Color impression: rustic orange
Amouage puts finger on a focal point and targets the generation who shares remarkable moments with Jaïpur Homme, Caron L’Anarchiste and Montana Parfum d’Homme.
Yes, Amouage Bracken Man is a retrospective to magnificent barbershop spicy gems of past. A fine multi-purpose aromatic fougère with punchy top and refined classy green heart. Opens with majuscule spicy rendition and settles in comfortable lavender, cedar, patchouli and green geranium; which means astonishing masculinity. Strong longevity and perfect projection.

Bracken is a great lavender fougere for Winter.
I loved it this chilly morning as something brighter in a Winter rotation.
I loved the oomph, the projection really punches you with a raw lavender, coniferous cypress, and some really well blended spices. There is a nice freshness here, light citrus, and nutmeg, cypress with some ambroxan, that gives it a fresh zestiness.
I normally like my fragrances very natural. Here there are some synthetic notes that are nicely used for zest, but the overall composition is natural smelling.
The greatest fragrances have opposing contrasts. Bracken has fresh and warm. It has the fresh lavender, the terpen cypress and citrus, maybe a bit of ambroxan, and then the warm spices, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and creamy Sandalwood.
I love cypress and woody fragrances and this has lots of nice woody notes.
It’s in the league with CdG “Wonderwood” as far as the woods and spices, but Bracken Man is a Lavender fougere at heart.
It is one of my top 3 Amouage fragrances with Interlude Man and Memoir Man.
    Great performance, longevity and projection.

A bundle of spices (heavy clove, nutmeg, cinnamon) in a cedar bowl. Mostly a linear smell but there are peaks and valleys with bright spots of lavender and geranium. An extremely masculine scent but could be worn by a woman who likes feeling hugged by kitchen spice. I grabbed a sample to compare it to its ‘female counterpart’. I have to say that this perfume is outpaced in every way by the Amouage Bracken Woman, which is a far superior scent. True, they are doing different things, however, this smell is simply not as well considered or crafted as the Bracken Woman.

I tried it on my skin today. It was pretty linear and intense with a warm and aromatic character. It didn’t develop much on my skin and the smell was like an overdose of a single note. The single note was probably a combination of cloves, nutmeg, and etc. but blended so well that was giving the impression of being a single note.
To be honest I tried this with the expectation of getting a ‘fantastic’ modern fougere. I feel disappointed with what I’m smelling on my skin, however. Specially when I consider the price tag, it’s a clear no for me.

Nutmeg! I get a voluptuous, creamy, nutmeg cloud. This scent is odd and lovely.
EDIT : like in cooking, a little of that spice goes a long way…

I am a big fan of Amouage, own several bottles (8), and considered blind buying this one since I have been going through an aromatic/fougere phase this past year. I recently received a sample of Bracken Man and I am so glad that I didn’t pull-the-trigger on a full bottle.
On the positive side, as with all Amouage perfumes, this one smells of quality ingredients – no doubt! I cannot describe it, but you’ll know it when you smell it. Bracken Man performs well in that it lasted a solid 7-8 hours and projected slightly above average on my skin. Moreover, it never gets too-loud or out-of-control, which is perfect since I consider this fragrance to be best suited for daytime, professional use. Offhand, I imagine a serious businessman conducting serious business to be wearing Bracken Man.
Sadly, I just didn’t bond with this fragrance. Let me see…Cypress, lavender and patchouli wrapped in a cornucopia of spices…what’s not to love? Well, there was just something running amok in this fragrances…dank, pungent and unpleasant that managed to raise it’s hind leg and piss all over the other pleasant aromatic undertones in this fragrance. So I looked up the notes pyramid and noticed my fragrance nemesis, Cloves, dropped by to annoy everyone and starts a bar-fight, so to speak.
I’m sorry, but I have difficulty with most fragrances that feature a prominent cloves note – Bracken Man is no exception. Strangely, the cloves really rear its ugly head for a good 20-30 minutes because the other ingredients largely kept it under control. However, just like Neo, from The Matrix, there was something wrong with this scent and it was a matter of time before I pulled the wool from over my eyes to reveal the true nature of Agent Clovis Smith. LOL!
Overally, I found Braken Man to be an interesting scent (and certainly a quality fragrance) but it wasn’t made for me so I’ll pass on this one. Hopefully your experiences with Bracken Man are better than mine. Cheers.

Bracken does start like Fouger Royale, but not that green and more floral and airy. It calms down after that quite a lot and becomes a very comfortable scent for all climate/weather/occasion until it finally resembles a vey suave and ultra masculine version of Heritage/New York/Bois du Portugal/Lalique Lion … I guess people don’t like Bracken because it is not oriental, gourmand, aoudy, spicy, sweet, cloying etc … Bracken is a lavender scent and pure class. Some are going to hate it forever …

Bought it after a very long research. Smelled it first in a big italian shop and it filled a room from muillette. Power in a piece of sheet. I loved it first sniff.
Liked and bought a full 100ml after 5 months. It’s a green, mentholeate breath, like a little forest i a bottle. Wow. I really really really can’t understand disappointment from others owners. I suppose it depends on the regionals tastes. American friends, i really can’t understand you: i find it really odd but into the same amouage mood: quality is there in a greenish and pleasing and creamy way. I risk everytime to drink it. It’s divine like a walk in a tuscan cypress peripheral road.
Found a more discrete power in the bottle than in mouilette and sample that were really louds: what a disappointment.
It’s the last perfum i bought in the italian summer. I’m waiting for the cold weather; i suppose it will be a perfect match with the windy weather here in Piedmont and i think it will be more powerfull in winter, under a shirt. I think it will clearly show the base notes in a more cold season.
I love it but i hope in a sillage/projection upgrade due to the season.
Scent is a perfect green, mediterranean, forestal match. Persistance: not at his best.
    Thumbs up from me, anyway.
    8 maybe 9/10

I avoided trying this due to my bad experiences with Sunshine and Myths although when a kind friend sent a sample, I was overjoyed to finally be able to try it! I went in with very low expectations because I love this house if not their recent offerings because I understand they have to make fragrances for everyone and not just what I like!
When I sprayed this, I was instantly hit with a blast of mentholated creamy earthy patchouli. Then it almost vanishes into a cloud of earthy notes and a bit of manure which is not offensive at all. After a few minutes, the clove magically comes to life and takes the centre stage and this is a phase I am really enjoying because I breathe it in and it opens my nostrils. The clove is quite dominant but it doesn’t overtake the whole composition; a semi creamy patchouli reappears intermingled with the spicy clove with undertones of nutmeg and the composition stays like this for a few hours. I don’t smell anything else really but I think the cypress is present at the very beginning which gives off a menthol like vibe. This does somewhat go into the pilaf rice territory but then pulls back because of the patchouli.
I’d like to refer to the reviews down below… this is not Amouage’s answer to Creed’s Green Irish Tweed… They’re not even remotely in the same zip code. Not related in any shape or form whatsoever…
The very beginning and end phases remind me strongly of Patchouli Imperial. Once my bottle of that has finished, I will buy a Bracken just because the clove gives the fragrance an edge I really enjoy and works like coffee when I smell it, I feel I am kind of breathing new life into myself. That’s what I liked about this fragrance and recently I have noticed that Amouage compositions are actually changing instead of being linear.
The composition on the whole is very well rounded and smooth and I personally didn’t experience any screechiness. I think it does stay for a good 4.5 hours with average and close to skin presence but I can’t tell unless I get to spray properly from a bottle.
Overall, I do not hate it and actually would rather quite like to have it so it’s on my to-buy-list when I can find it for a good price 😀

Im a Paco Rabanne vintage fan, which was my first ever cologne, so I love this one since PR is not the same anymore.Very fresh and invigorating, it captures the spirit of fougeres from the 70″s.
Prices are going down at discounters, so I picked up my full bottle for $ 175!

A reminiscence of freshly cut forest plants with a touch of lemon in the opening. Patchouli is very dominant afterwards and gives an earthy vibe, but it is very well blended with cloves. Base is sweet and musky. It’s interesting how it transforms from herbal scent through spices and patchouli and finishes as a very smooth, skin scent.

I love amouage because they don’t make anything boring. Even in the classic genre that this one resides in. That said… I’m not sure I’ll be getting a bottle. I’m still experimenting with it. So far I regard it as interesting and likable. It’s sort of spry…snappy…professional. But it lacks the passion of my favorites from this house…at least as they play on my imagination.
So that for the price… a pass.

  34. :

The opening is a sharp, brackish combo of earthy patchouli and astringent, grassy vetiver. It smells like moss, soil and chlorophyll on a wet day, intensely natural and rugged.
However, not soon afterwards, there arises a note that reminds me of a poorly maintained men’s toilet at a public park. My guess is that the nutmeg, which I often feel tends to have a bit of spicy skank to it, mixed with that bitter lemon and clove, is producing an image of a disinfected urinal. It’s not full on animalic pee horror, certainly on the cleaner side, but it’s enough to sour the experience for me somewhat. “Bracken” may be made with good ingredients, but the overall effect is not luxurious or elegant, rather it’s a bit hobbled and ugly smelling, not quite the tone I have come to expect from this brand.
So it’s a thumbs down from me.

  35. :

Some people might think that Amouage have gone off the boil, non moreso than me as I’ve been vaguely critical of their last couple of releases but I still believe in the creative direction of the brand. I’d go as far as to say that Bracken is an effort to further diversify and broaden their range away from the super complexity and incense laden compositions they became famous for.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with covering the fougere base and I think this perfume does a really good job of evoking ferns and woodland greenery.
Bracken is gently masculine and grown up composition which opens with clean citruses and hints of spice from cloves and cinnamon and I got quite a bit of lavender. Then giving way to an awesome combination of earthy patchouli, cedar and cypress. It hints all the main criteria for a classic fougere fragrance and I for one can dig it. I need to try it again properly to determine whether it is worth the money and has the lasting power compared to cheaper alternatives. Speaking of those it does bare more than a passing resemblance to Fougere Royale but definitely stronger and more brash.
I like Bracken very much but depending on expectations some might see this one as a filler release from Amouage.

It reminded me of the fougere from the past, 70s and 80s , Azzaro Homme original formulation , If you know where I am coming from. Very masculine , Last for hours and hours , All the way to the end ; I can still smell the clove and cinnamon , I have to say I have never been disappointed by the creations of Amouage , Another job well done by the house of Amouage!.Cheers,
    Scent 10/10
    Silage 10/10
    Long Lasting 10/10.
    Peace and Love!

Bracken was a wonderful surprise. It starts off very earthy, very green. At the height of the opening there is almost an element of; “where is this going to go now?”. Then the clove kicks in and wow what an unexpected shift! The fragrance then transitions into this great woody, spicy mix and then you’re left with this cozy patchouli and musk dry down. Bracken is a great homage to fougeres and is really original in its simplicity. This fragrance of course true to it’s brand performs well and has great longevity. To me Bracken is full bottle worthy.

I get a toned down Aramis Havana from this – with maybe half the strength, but cloves still being the dominant note. a more mossy, herbal fragrance over all. If I were to describe it simply I’d call it an earthy shaving cream. Still the most wearable of the Amouages for me, as I’m not big on incense in pretty much anything

I did test Amouage Bracken today on my skin, I don’t think this smells like Antidote (mentioned by FragranceAndF).
But I like it. It’s very nice and longlasting, smelling it now for 16 hours (put it on at 05:15 now is 21:13).
No incense in this like many of the other Amouage fragrances

Bracken is a fragrance of great complexity. You can feel almost every note here… It is green, it is earthy, it is aromatic and it is spicy at the same time.
Bracken has a very interesting patchouli and cypress accord that plays a major role in the earthy nuance. The scent transposes me into the middle of a forest after the rain when you can smell all the vegetation and the damp soil; it gives an unique sensation of freshness and then you have the cloves that counter-balance the composition giving it warmness and depth.
This is a fragrance with a beautiful aura of masculinity, an amazing modern fougere with really good performance.

Purchased a 100ml bottle together with Beloved Man after testing both for 3 days in Dubai. If Creed GIT was the smoothest fresh grass scent(creamy salty dry down) then this will definitely be the smoothest tropical forest fern scent(creamy sweet dry down). Well blended and definitely classy. Last 12hrs in warm weather easily. Excellent job in doing away with the usual oud/incense/spice and focusing on blending quality fresh oils. The opening really brings back memories of a relaxing morning walk through a dewy forest. A breakthrough and masterpiece indeed.

Bought a full bottle yesterday made in oman. Its something different from the house of amouage, no incense, no leather, no amber, no myrth, not balsamic. I am loving this scent this summer in sydney.
Very long lasting, projection is also very good

Unfortunately I cannot join the chorus of approval and appraisal for the latest offering from the house of Amouage.
For mine, this smells like a dusty old attic.
