Description

Bottega Veneta launched the self-titled debut perfume in 2011. This fragrance of simply elegance is inspired by Venetian landscapes. In early 2013, a new version of the debut, the second fragrance Bottega Veneta Eau Legere comes out.

Tomas Maier, the creative director of the house, explains the idea behind the new fragrance: “I wanted something completely new, a creation that combines the sensuality of the original Bottega Veneta fragrance with the clarity and freshness of water.”

Michel Almairac, the creator of both perfumes, described the process of developing a new version as “passing the original fragrance through a waterfall.” The composition is leathery – floral – chypre and it opens with refreshed dazzling top notes of the original which include bergamot and pink pepper. The scent retains its unique floral accord of jasmine, this time animated by delicate gardenia. Combination of oak moss and musk form a feminine and delicate trail.

The new advertising campaign will again feature Nine d’Urso. The campaign is shot by Bruce Weber. The fragrance is available as 30, 50 and 75 ml Eau de Toilette.

I recieved this as a sample from the lovely Mr Scent Man when he sent my friend out two bottles of Misia EDT she purchased for us. Now, I’m not one to make blanket statements – but the Bottega Veneta fragrances I’d tried up until this point had never quite been for me, being lovely in their own right.
THIS on the other hand, is the perfect modern chypre. At least on my skin, because I don’t really see it being mentioned as one anywhere. Think 31 Rue Cambon, but with more spice: the pink pepper REALLY gives it a punch. However, it’s also a bit like a Sarah McCartney (4160 Tuesdays) chypre creation.
It seems highly unfair to me that this would be discontinued. The strongest love that I’ve had for a new fragrance in a long, long while … and it’s no where to be found. C’est la vie, or c’est bullcrap?

I ordered a sample just now, had to because of gardenia oakmoss and leather, and because it inspired so many eloquent reviews!
(will update when my sample arrives)

A very safe cool office scent for over 40, the oakmoss is over the top.

WHY WOULD THEY DISCONTINUE THIS MASTERPIECE!!!!!! I am heartbroken and I hate anyone who is putting it up on Amazon for TWICE the original price!!!! ughhhhh

It was a blindbuy based on my love for original bottega veneta and didn’t dissapoint.I’m hooked.I like it even more than bottega veneta!they have a lot in common like at least 70% of similarity.eau legere version is less leathery, more musky floral and more feminine in my book.leather isn’t listed here but it’s definitely there just doesn’t cover gardenia and musk.grounds it and adds a touch if warmth which makes the scent alive.moss also has a balancing role hand in hand with leather to prevent it from being a soulless soapy musky gardenia by binding it with earth and life and warmth
It’s not a watery version of first bottega IMO but I agree that it’s a spring version of first bottega not that it’s fresh,it’s suitable for daywear and spring because it’s less heavy, more floral and clean.longevity is great,it lingers firmly on skin for +10 hours!,sillage is also very good when first sprayed but after half an hour softens to moderate.I can’t decide where and when to wear it,though it’s softness makes it easy to wear,it’s so luxurious, expensive smelling, sophisticated and classy that I want to save it for a real special occasion
It’s a shame that this masterpiece isn’t well known and popular where I live.of course I like to wear something unique but at the same time I believe it deserves to be loved more.I also love it’s bottle which is as chic as it’s scent, mine is a 1.7oz which is perfectly placed in hand and easily sprayed.I bought it for 75$ and it worthes this price tag
    Highly recommended

Interesting that you should mention that, vos. I have a 2016 bottle of BV EDP, and its sillage and lasting power sucks. I see it was made originally in 2011, before the Year of the Reformulation. I’d be interested in an older incarnation to test longevity. I had a sample in which the leather, patchouli and oakmoss nearly knocked me down (in a good way). My 2016 really does smell like Rihanna’s Rogue. The sample didn’t!
I have 2 bottles of BV Eau Legere. One (from 2014) is almost gone. It is heavy on the bergamot and florals. My backup is from 2013 and is much more pink pepper and oakmoss-centric. If my BVEL backup is from 2013, it would be reasonable to guess that it is the original formula that Bottega Veneta released. I don’t know if they’d change it the year after releasing it, but the smell of my 2014 bottle is so different, and the lasting power isn’t excellent. The smell is so luxurious (please see my previous review!) and I love it, but I love the scent of my 2013 backup bottle even more!

The original Bottega veneta is one of my all time favorites and so i had to try the au legere. At first sniff i find it to be quite similar to the original if not somewhat lighter on the patchouly. This makes the scent fresher and more of a daytime choice yet stil classy. No reason for me not to like this perfume. But with the original BV lasting more than triple the hours of the eau legere, i do not think i will invest in another bottle.

Well I agree with reviewers that this flanker of BV has a very refreshing, bracing opening. I like the zesty, bitter and uplifting feeling of it. But sadly enough it just doesn’t stay that way on my skin…. It becomes a very smooth, creamy but also a musty white floral on my skin. I can’t really explain it; it’s just plain weird and I have never smelled anything like it (at least on my skin). It has a sort of metallic, plaster tinge which makes me rather nauseous combined with the creaminess of the white florals. It dries down to a musky floral, which is perfectly fine and elegant, but something just goes wrong during the middle stage on my skin. Too bad because it smells great on a blotter. The original EdP works great on my skin, this one doesn’t however. Recommended that you test this one before blind buying it, even if you like the EdP.

I ordered a sample of Bottega Veneta on Ebay and was sent this by mistake, and I figured it wasn’t worth the bother of returning… and I’m glad! BV Eau Legere is downright gorgeous; earthy and outdoorsy, yet very, very elegant. It opens with a bracing blast of what smells very much like pine to me, which then intermingles with a musky white floral. The resulting aura is clean, refreshing, and just a tad soapy, and I repeat, almost unbearably elegant. Perfect projection for my taste and stellar longevity. I’ve re-ordered a sample of the original, but if I don’t love it more than EL, I’ll definitely be buying a bottle of this.

    This is Not Slight Water
This perfume has a dumb name, because it doesn’t do the perfume any justice! This is not a “Slight Water of Bottega Veneta.” Maybe I am taking the French translation too literally. This is not a suggestion of leather, hint of flowers, watered down & timid perfume. If anything, Bottega Veneta Eau Legere is stronger, richer, and lasts a hell of a long time on the skin.
Instead of insisting that there is oakmoss in this perfume, why not go for pine? Conifer? General green notes? Soil and mulch? Because that is what makes this perfume–it is very, very green, and fresh–fresh in the way the wind smells when it blows through a coniferous forest on a cool day. Oh, and you’ve bathed with a gardenia and jasmine infused bar of white soap that day, and you’re wearing a leather jacket.
So–pine, greens, woods, earth, soil, light but buttery leather, smooth gardenia, soapy jasmine, and a bit of pepper to mix things up, but in the spirit of BV all the notes blend seamlessly and nothing is overpowering. In a way though this is more earthy/leathery than the original BV, especially as it dries down, and I was SHOCKED at the performance of this perfume–it will last 12+ hours with nice sillage/strength. I’ve always found this house to be a bit expensive, but in terms of strength & lasting power you are getting your money’s worth.

I much prefer this Eau Legere flanker to the original Bottega Veneta. There are very few differences between the two compositions, however I do find the Eau Legere lighter and more powdery on the skin.
I do enjoy leather fragrances, but only if they have a softer, more feminine side. I adore powdery leather scents like Molinard’s Habanita and Hermès Kelly Caleche. Bottega Veneta Eau Legere has all those feminine qualities I love, and I may purchase a bottle to replace my vintage Habanita when my bottle runs out as the newer formulation leaves me less than impressed.
This fragrance is all class. I feel very elegant and fashionable when wearing this fragrance. It wears on the skin like a smooth, creamy lotion. In other words, very inoffensive.
Bottega Veneta Eau Legere is also not surprisingly rather sensual. It pairs nicely with a lacy lingerie ensemble and a silk kimono. A creamy, powdery floral-leather combo that suits my every mood.
Bottega Veneta Eau Legere has been on my wish list for some time now. In due course I have no doubt that it will soon be part of my ever-growing collection.

I don’t think this one and the original one are very different from each other. They are in the same style and smell quite similar. This one is just as outstanding in my opinion. It’s leathery and very-very woody. It smells like freshly cut wood.
There’s this country club elegance again. Country club and not city elegance, because it smells close to nature and reminds me of an evening in the countryside when it’s getting slightly cold and you can smell the scent of trees and bonfire.

  14. :

This perfume is not the costliest I’ve ever purchased, but it SMELLS the most expensive. I love it so much. After the initial blast of bergamot, the other notes emerge and it is fairly linear and quite long lasting.
It is smooth (Musk and gardenia combination, I’m guessing) and sharp (due to the bergamot) at the same time. The bergamot and pink pepper come through strongly, and the oakmoss to a lesser degree.
Interestingly, I tried it on my brother, and it smelled very floral on him. The gardenia and jasmine really don’t feature prominently on my skin, but they do for him.

Catty, I fully agree with your review. For me this perfume is a perfection. Love it!

  16. :

Why would you want a diluted version of the original? The original Bottega Veneta is lovely, but much too weak, IMO.

  17. :

    3 out of 5

More citrus, more acidic and less deep. If you love The Original, I wouldn’t recommend blind buy this thing that still has gorgeous drydown though.

  18. :

    5 out of 5

Basically the same fragrance as regular BV but better according to my tastes, because here proportions are changed.
“Passed through a waterfall” sounds like a poetic way to say “diluted” 🙂
It is actually diluted compared to the original, but I prefer this leathery bag once it has passed through a gardenia bush. At least it gives relief to my breath with a whif of flowers.
So Eau Legere is still totally BV in a lighter form with more White flowers.
It might be too light for some people, but it’s more interesting than its 2-dimensions sister brick-on-head.
The floral edge really adds transparency and elegance. I wish they made an Eau Legere Intense.
That would be a real modern classic feminine woody-floral.

I bought it for my wife. She loves it, me too 🙂

  20. :

    5 out of 5

My bottle of Eau Legere marked my first blind buy and subsequent addiction to perfumes. Thinking in retrospect I suspect Eau Legere was the beautiful trap: it had me fallen so hard over to love each part of it. The notes, the bottle, the smell, the image it gives off… all of it. It made me appreciate what a quality perfumes truly is.
Without a doubt the backbone of Eau Legere is the oakmoss. The oakmoss in here is earthy, slightly dry and potent, and opens up very quickly after the initial blast of bergamot. The bergamot is very short-lived, at most 5 minutes on my skin, however to me it’s such a crucial component for Eau Legere to successfully bring in the white flowers (mostly gardenia) and oakmoss while remaining airy and fresh. Thereafter the oakmoss tops the chart for about 5 hours before musk gradually takes over. White florals waft in and out all the time and I really have trouble pinpointing when they will show up.
This is a very classic chypre and can be compared to some Guerlains as other reviewers commented below. On me Eau Legere has a very comfortable sillage and good longevity (~8hrs). It’s a truly versatile scent and can be worn day and night. I see this fragrance being worn by a woman that is independent, thoughtful yet effortlessly feminine and open to changes. My type of female role model, really.

Gorgeous! When sweet or fruity just won’t do this is the right choice. This absolutely fabulous scent is the perfect balance between those two. The passing of the original perfume through a waterfall, well I totally get that. I’m super excited to have Eau Légère in my collection! ♡♡♡♡♡♡

The scent a little reminds Laetitia Millesime Rance , but she is the sweet ambergris and nuts. Can try as you like the quiet ambergris ? 🙂
I personally chose Bottega V L and the sorrow that so long I had a sample which I did not use.
    Well Bottega charmed me .
I feel the woodly- iris patchouli. So if spring I went to the clean , green forest. 🙂 mmmm my <3

  24. :

    5 out of 5

yes, it smells like Cuir Amethyste. but lighter and less sweet with surprisingly good longevity (7+ hours) and moderate sillage.
the opening is quite fresh and masculine which i love but that only lasts like 10 seconds. then it becomes smooth, warm and floral. and the drydown is my fav part, a new leather bag with a metallic vibe, smells like it’s just the fragrance of your skin!
    definitely unisex.
    and the bottle is stunning.

I tested Bottega Veneta Eau Legere completely by chance. Flicking through a 2013 issue of Vogue magazine at the hair salon, I was amazed to find an advert with a sample (the foil, peel-off kind) that hadn’t been touched! I rubbed it all over my wrist, and that was it… when I got home, I was straight online to hunt down a bottle.
BVEL is all class. It starts out with a nice peppery blast, flowing though to white florals. The mossy, musky base is just divine. I find it very comforting and cosy.
The longevity is excellent – it does become a skin scent after a couple of hours, but it holds well. I get around 8 hours wear. Sillage is moderate, turning to soft.
This elegant beauty is easily in my top 10 fragrances.

My eyes were closed when I sniffed this perfume at the store for the first time. I had to make sure at least one of my senses were shut so I can focus more on one when I tested this fragrance.
Of course I went home with the bottle.
Bottega Veneta Eau L’egere is my first Bottega Veneta fragrance. I fell in love with this fragrance right away as it smells very unique and lovely. It is very sophisticated, lovely, and totally different.
This scent is not overpowering yet is has some nice silage. I can tell if someone is wearing a Bottega Veneta fragrance ..and it smells very lovely. It is not a typical floral fragrance but it is very pleasing to the nose.
Eau L’egere is something I will always want to have in my perfume cabinet. This is something to wear when traveling in a boat, in a yacht for a weekend, or in a cruise…or something like that. I don’t know but it somehow fits a water adventure.
Did I say it smelled lovely ?

Tried a sample of this today, and from first spray to right now (about five hours in), I have been really enjoying it! The word “chic” definitely comes to mind with this fragrance. So far, I haven’t been detecting much floral or musk, but plenty of bergamot and pink pepper with a hint of oak moss. I wish I had put on a little more at first, though, because I’m starting to lose it a little. Perhaps this problem will correct itself once sprayed from a regular-sized flacon! Otherwise, this will be making it into my rotation a lot more. Sophisticated, but still… Sparkly, in a way.
    P.S. Potentially unisex?
UPDATE: Now about 8 hours in, it’s become more of a skin scent, but now I’m getting so much floral! Now I’m a believer that the flowers are there.

To me, it`s exact copy of Gucci Rush 2. Honestly, I can`t tell any differences. It`s young, powdery-soapy-clean very neutral and likeable scent.

  30. :

    3 out of 5

obviously sensitive and though striking changements have been made.
it beautifully starts with a refreshing sprizz of bergamot.
the violet- and cinnamon-like (or spicy peppery) qualities have been turned down and partly replaced by a subtle creamy gardenia. I am not “allergic” to watery notes, so they don’t irritate me here…
I like it a lot and think it is FBW- even if you already have the EDP! it is different enough….will be my next purchase!
(and it blends deliciously with traces of classical colognes like “eau de guerlain”, just found out…)

  31. :

What’s amazing about this perfume, among other things, is the similarity – but developed in lightness – with the original EdP.
More often than not, the lighter version is a watered-fruited-aquatic version of the original, as if this was the only way to go.
    Not here.
Bottega Veneta Eau Legére maintains the original body with a certain lightness around, the scent is the original one, longevity and projections are the same, drydown is very sophisticated as in the original.
So what are the differences with the EdP?
    It’s as if it were the same lady: EdP in a beautiful cashmere sweater, expensive leather riding boots on a crisp autumn day through the woods with a horse under her saddle;
Eau Legére is a walk on a warm sunny day in spring with the same lady wearing a light silk dress, hand in hand with her kid, picking up flowers in the countryside.
So, which one is the best?
    Both!

  32. :

I want to love this more than I do, because the benzoin smells so amazing on the paper sample, but on the skin, I get mostly sharpish gardenia with watery notes. Not nice on me, though not horrid. Just nothing I’d ever wish to smell like.

  33. :

It take’s a long time, when I could recoqnized this beautiful scent about my youth, but this is a lighter version of Trussardi Donna, the first edition!
Typical Italian chic, and so stylish, love this very much, it´s so special for me!

VIOLET WOODY Elegance and brings me back to childhood. .., it’s not as earthy as the original. I love the original a lot and I have it but this is great as well, it’s basically the summer version or day version of the EDP. It has gardenia added as well as musk and the leather and patchouli note is taken away. So its fresher and less earthy( still keeping some earthiness due to the oak moss) and less leather. Not that the orig was leathery but it has that earthy feel and to me both smell like violets yet I come across plum quite a bit when I google other sites. Yes I may smell plum as well…. I still swear I smell violets. And it’s certainly does smell like Cuir amethyst but a lighter version of it. Cuir amethyst indeed is more leathery and violet sweet, minus the mossy part.
Well done gorgeous scent. Love it !!!

I like this charming and elegant perfume.
I had tried the original Bottega Veneta which was spoiled for me by a persistent patchouli. In this Eau Legere version, the chypre is far more apparent, it really does come across as a modern chypre, not just a patchouli stand-in. The soft flowers are very pleasant but chypre lingers most after half an hour
I sense there’s something like beeswax or honey, definitely something that lends a slight sweetness without being a ubiquitous vanilla. Also a light musk – the variety I really enjoy – like very clean cat fur, cosy.
Some perfumes are literal in their ideas, some evoke moods, atmospheres or emotions and some seem to be like personalities. I think this perfume is one of the latter – wearing it makes me feel like I’ve graduated from charm school, and I could probably use a little more charm!

  36. :

i had a 1,2ml sample. It reminds me a bit Freya not produced any more by oriflame. It has its speciallity. But i will not buy a bottle of it, its not me case. The scent seems woody and sweet but not obviously sweet its rather something misterious.
Well i think not for a blind buy. Try it ,give it a time ,at very beggining i was more fascinated by this perfume ,now when i finished sample i am not much.

  37. :

    4 out of 5

I like it better than the original, which was too earthy/ masculine for me, but the Legere version is real floral and classy, and doesn’t develop much on me…honestly it isn’t really my style, I admit it is in its class a stylish floral scent, a bit cold, and maybe too linear for me,it has a peppery edge, but not too much…I get lots of Gardenia, it is crisp, nice floral..just not working for me…

  38. :

    5 out of 5

I have tried this and to my nose its just a watered down version of the original…its pretty first few mins but I would rather keep wearing the original..its more sexy, and has more creamy clean punch..even though its soft scent on me..for the price why go softer? STICK to the original..its numero uno:)

I need this perfume in my life. The first time I smelt it was a sample in a magazine and it was like my nose had had some sort of epiphany. It encapsulates everything I want to be as a women! strong, feminine, intelligent, all without smelling dated, its still young. I think I have found my new signature!

I have sprayed it on my scarf and I wanted to buy it immediately! I loved initial burst of rose pepper, jasmine and moss! So elegant, classy and understated but same time utterly feminine. Unfortunately after 10 min almost everything I liked about this fragrance was gone and what I was left with was a very faint (but pleasant!) smell of white flovers and musk. I am glad I haven’t bought it. Do not get me wrong- its not a bad fragrance but its not what I am looking for right now.

BV Eau Legere is beautiful, understated and completely lovely on my skin. It stays close, a warm hug but with a fresh breeze wafting florals gently in the air. I love the original BV, it is absolutely decadent and rich in a subtle and sexy way. Eau Legeres is less commanding, but equally as unforgettable. I love them.

Heaven in a bottle!!, oh how I love this, very nice reminiscent of the original but lighter && fresher in smell which I really like, the original is just as amazing but was a bit loud for me, this is just enough, nice green woodsy mossy scent with just perfect touch of floral && spice. Perfect for year round, testing it out now will update with longevity/sillage. I so want this now!! 😀

  44. :

    3 out of 5

For me it does not deliver much of any scent at all. I wouldn’t disagree that I could have a bad sample, but it’s also possible that this is just one of those chemistry things. Too bad because it sounded like something that I would like. Soapy gardenia is the faint message. I have learned that perhaps gardenia is not for me.

My boyfriend is terrible at picking out gifts for me, so, being the understanding girlfriend that I am, I took the liberty of picking this out for myself (my birthday is in a week). I was so excited when we got home, I was about to drench myself in it, when he snatched it from me and said I’m not getting it until my birthday! Heartbroken, I decided to log on to here and tell you all about this gorgeous scent.
This perfume is fantastic for so many reasons. It is unique, it is a long-lasting skin scent (that never happens!), and despite its loveliness, it kills my appetite! Maybe it’s the bergamot or the pepper or maybe it’s just its sophistication, but I spray this on and make good choices in my meals.
This starts out sparkly on me, fizzy. It stays that way for quite a while and then dries down to this muted fizz on leather, as if I accidentally spilled an expensive italian lime soda on some Louis Vuitton leather gloves.
The original version of this is also gorgeous (dries down divinely), but it’s a bit too warm for summer. This Eau Legere is the perfect response. I love both equally, it took me ages to decide, and I think I’ll get the other one as well come fall.
One last word on it. Wearing this makes me feel like I should be reading classic leather-bound books, wearing natural looking makeup, dressing with sophistication. It’s not cute, it’s not chic, it’s not sweet, and it’s not va-va-voom. It’s perfume for the lawyer, the Philosophy professor, the smart sexy lady who is understated yet still entirely noticeable. And that’s what I’d like to be. For now.

This fragrance makes me happy; its just wonderful, retaining the integrity and familiarity of the original but with a sophisticated, feminine and clean presence. Its rapidly becoming my Summer favourite – I needed a break from citrus for the summer. A must try for those who appreciate scents that are not floral and girly.

    Superb chypre!
I tried a sample today and although I’m fond of the original EDP, this is a very interesting development. It’s similar to the Bottega Veneta EDP classic handbag leathery whiff minus a little of the ‘hay’ and with a tad more citrus.
MOST INTERESTINGLY – it could be an alternative to Mitsouko! It’s ‘not Mitsouko’ but a sharper more citrus heavy version with a summery vibe. It’s Mitsouko for people who love Mitsouko but fancy a change rather than another bottle of the same smell. It would also project magnificently on a man.
    I’m quite smitten.

Hmm… What I am gonna say now is gonna be very weird.
I tested this today and on me it smells almost exactly the same as Ellen Tracy – Tracy.
They do not share any notes at all… yet they are so very similar on my skin.
And this might be a good thing for me, because I own ET, but unfortunately has no sillage/lastingpower on me at all, so this might be a wonderful alternative for me 🙂
I will definitely test it out again to see if I will then still feel the same about it (resemblence to ET). If it does I will surely add it to my wishlist.
It’s a very crispy, clean and just… different scent that I happen to like a lot!!

I was given a 5 ml sample and the first time I tried it, it turned to awful shampoo with heavy, acrid musk. I washed it off in the shower after trying and finding it unbearable for 20 minutes. It still didn’t come off after scrubbing with castille soap. I have no idea why I had such an awful reaction to this fragrance, but it seems like all I get is musk, musk and musk with an oakmoss slap in the face. Sorry. The original BV didn’t work for me either, which is strange, because usually leathery scents fit me well.

a refined perfume..a modern.. classy.. sophisticated.. harsh.. mean.. scent ..almost masucline.. with a leathery.. peppery.. accord. .full of musk.. and jasmine.. and gardenia.. in a discrete manner..its not a common perfume.. its unique ..in its own way.. it reminds me of ellen tracy ..the one from 2002.. there is something animalic in it ..its the kind of perfume that you either fall head over heels for.. or just disregard ..and forget about it..its a perfume for a university professor.. or a phd student..or an executive ceo.. its truly a sophisticated.. clean.. and warm scent.. its a skin scent.. it really depends on your skin chemistry ..i think guys love this on a woman.. for it portrays a masculine side to it.. which men find attractive..its a confident perfume.. hmmmm i dont know if i can call it a perfume.. its more of a potion or an elixir.. its not perfumee ..from the initial spray you might wonder why anyone will buy this.. but give it a second chance.. let it set in.. and develop ..and it will change in to something.. tantalizing.. wonderful.. or atleast unique.. and special.. and mesmerising.. under a subtle vail of strangeness.. and tranquility..

I LOVE it sooo much! For me it feels just like amzingly FRESH musk, if musk can be fresh:) My next buy definetely!
“passing the original fragrance through a waterfall” – it DOES smell so!

I tried it today and loved it. The creaminess of the original version smells curdled to me, like milk that’s gone off. In this version the note reminds me of Bassett’s Milk Gums – but fear not, it isn’t sweet. The shampoo middle note comes in but doesn’t erase the leather which gets stronger as time goes on. Close and snuggly, a joy to wear.

Edit: this review was actually meant for Bottega Veneta EDP and NOT Eau Legere….Sorry for the confusion!
I tried this today, and I actually like it a lot! I was expecting something opulent and sweet, but instead I got surprised with sophisticated musk and white flowers. I also get a crisp leathery note, which I surprising like here much better than in Kelly Caleche where I found it sharp and cloying. BV brings to mind images of expensive leather mixed with perfume…. Its smells like a rich and refined young lady.

I actually tried it today, and i thought it is a nice one. It’s fresher than the older version. So basicly lighter that the original one.
