Description
Apples and cinnamon, dry leaves and hot apples pies remind us of the first days of autumn. Demeter Fragrance is launching a fragrant duo which offers autumn in a bottle with its sensual, gourmand and warm compositions.
Bonfire is sensual and intoxicating. Its composition depicts the scent of burning maple leaves, which fall off trees in autumn and create piles.
All three autumn fragrances are available as 15ml cologne purse spray, 15ml cologne splash, 30ml cologne spray, 125ml cologne spray, 125ml atmosphere spray, 125ml Calming body lotion, 125ml foaming bath and shower gel, 90ml tender bath oils and 200ml olive oil infused soap.
Bonfire was launched in 2009.

This one sounded great, I was expecting that burnt-leaves, wood-smoke smell you get on your jacket after a night sitting around a bonfire. I was very disappointed to find this did not smell smoky at all. It’s really hard for me to describe; a bizarre chemical smell that I cannot place. I gave it a couple chances, but I really can’t stand it. I sprayed some on my sleeve, and within half an hour I had to change shirts because it smelled so awful.

bonfire nope don’t see it. smells like a incense stick or a candle then a couple hours later it’s gone. If only it lived up to the name.

Only if they would’ve juss kept it bonfire n smoke it would have passed the test. The spices aspect seems jumbled and those notes undiscernible. Also, those spices are very cloying and synthetic smelling. My wife hated it. It really smells like burnt candle, waxy.

I like Yankee Candle and Woodwick’s “fireside” scents, so I picked this one up, thinking it would be similar. – Not exactly. Those scents have a subtle sweetness/spice and the “wood” and “burn” notes are not overdone.
“Bonfire” is a very strange take on a “fireside” scent. It tries hard to be sweet, but it never quite gets there. It’s very very strong. The scent reminds me of the smell of burnt cookies. Imagine putting sugar cookies in the oven, falling asleep, and awakening to the sound of your fire alarms going off. -Sugar and flour reduced to burning carbon. There’s something weird about it… I’m not sure how I would feel about wearing this or smelling it on another person.

To me, this was quite piney. A bonfire of pine logs, perhaps? Somewhat soapy, too. It reminded me of Sung Homme.

This is just what I wanted from a perfume called Bonfire! Lovely smoky, dry but with a little sweetness in the background, and surprising longevity for a Demeter. I sprayed at least half an hour ago and can still smell it on my skin.
DEMMON – :
On my skin, there’s a strong resemblance between Demeter’s Bonfire, and Demeter’s Bourbon. Both thoroughly enjoyable, although conceptually diverse. Both start with a B, and contains 7 letters.
It’s possible my sample was mis-labeled. 🙂

Was wondering what to get the hubby as an extra Christmas present. We had a little conversation the other day when I asked him his thoughts on my latest decant acquisition (POAL if you’re interested), and he said “why does it all have to be so complicated? I’d really like it if you could get simple single note things, I’d like something that smells like wood smoke, or dirt, moss and leaves.” So of course my perfume encyclopaedic brain kicked in and thought of Demeter! And there it was, Bonfire, right up his grubbing around in the garden and burning things street.
Review: This is not an active bonfire, more the sweet, smoky residue it leaves on your clothes. It is cool, dry and rather melancholy. There is a sweetness that is rather like amber. Very well done, and wearable. And it lasts really well!
Hopefully it will fit his demanding requirements!

It is not really a bonfire. That would be Tauer’s Lonesome Rider. This is very cinnamon, sweet, fruity and a little smokey. It reminds me of a weaker less complex version of some of Deep Midnight’s lovely oils on Etsy.

Smells like burning leaves…..but something here is way too synthetic to enjoy. VERY strong as well. It will give you a headache if you are prone to them.

I used to say that someone should make a men’s fragrance that left you smelling like you had a fireplace or woodstove, as I always found that scent to be incredibly masculine and sexy. Demeter has done it.
It doesn’t open well at all, honestly somewhere between spittoon and pine-scented urinal cake for a few minutes, but once the alcohol dries down, that sweet piney, smoky aroma comes through, and there it is: a big thick sweater and a roaring fire keeping you warm.

This smells too synthetic to me, like walmart candles/wax melts. Headache-inducing.

I absolutely agree with sarahelizabeths comment. Its a spicy sweet with a smoky mixture with pine needles.

I was braced to be disappointed, since a significant minority of people find this fragrance meaty, or reminiscent of lighter fluid.
But, hooray, it’s almost exactly what I was hoping for! Not a whiff of meat or BBQ. For me, it’s all wood and smoke with a hint of spicy sweetness. I only wish it were more leafy than woody. (The leafiness is there, but it’s not nearly as prominent as the wood.)
Also reminds me a tad of the smoke from freshly-extinguished candles.
Longevity is significantly better than most Demeter fragrances.

Oh man, oh man, I LOVE THIS!!!!!
I found this last winter and I had been wishing for something like this for YEARS!!!! This reminds me of when I was a kid and it was like OK to just BURN leaves in your backyard, those teenaged bonfire parties way out in the woods, the smell of fall and the big red harvest moon, oh and that song from Type O Negative – Black no.1 “Her perfume smells like burning leaves, everyday is Halloween”, camping trips! Good times!!! This was my signature smell in my Goth youth and it wasn’t even from a bottle back then! Sure the top notes are of barbecued chicken but it’s worth it in the dry down to smell burning maple leaves whenever you want to!
I love autumn here in Wisconsin by the farms and forests in the brisk dewy air it always smells like this!
P.S. I don’t think this smells of meat but the sweetness and smoke at the start has a Liquid Smoke tinge that can remind one of BBQ sause. Don’t worry that effect doesn’t last long.
DANTE13 – :
this doesn’t smell like bonfire, it smells like grilling hotdogs with mustard and some cooking sauce, really weird.
stanislaw.moshkin – :
I love campfires.
sahivva – :
I got a small bottle of the splash based solely on Demeter’s website’s description of it. Its smells as advertised, shockingly so, however I can’t imagine an appropriate occasion to wear this scent.
Its pleasant, but for me its primary value is as memory trigger for being outside on cold winter days when wood smoke hangs thick in the frozen air.

amazing. smells exactly like a bonfire. literally.
it’s amazing, i mean, i’m not sure that it’s a scent i’d wear, more just love the novelty of having it.
