You can’t please all of the people, all of the time. There’s no shame in that. The only real sin, of course, is to be boring. The 1975 Bogart can never be accused of that. Certainly, it will not be to the liking of young, or not so young noses in search of modern, crowd-pleasing fragrances. This is anachronistic masculinity at its best. Not unrefined—just hard, brutal and honest. It’s serious and no-nonsense, without so much as a playful wink or nod to the softer side of humanity. Bogart is the CEO kicking ass and taking names. And while it may not be the fragrance of choice when you want to win hearts; it most definitely is when you want to win negotiations. If and when that’s your vibe, Bogart might just be your new favorite. It’s definitely mine.

Bogart (Jacques Bogart) what a strong character and personality in this bottle, I had opportunity to wear this fragrance in the past, then I got a bottle of 95 ml and for my surprise it still keeps that integrity and very manly characteristic that make this man’s fragrance part of the power house in the fragrance family for mature and conservative males; it has been provably reformulated as well as the majority of the great man’s fragrances from the late 50s to the middle of the 80s where in my concept the real deal about man’s aftershaves and colognes was born; today the shelves of fragrance shops are flooded with new scents of too girly and metro sexual directed potions for the new boys that cannot reach manhood and stay in the same level as their famine side; these boys are too afraid of wearing something they can not tame and Bogart is one of those beasts that need a real man to understand it, to forge it, to bend it so it can be worn by a real man; as only an alpha male knows when and how to use a cologne like this, if you are a man that wear your fragrance because it is part of your personality and no to please others, then BOGART is your scent.
    I always wear:
    ARAMIS
    QUORUM
    BOGART (SIGNATURE)
    POLO (GREEN)
    GIVENCHY GENTLEMAN
and if I want to be a bit flexible and to come out of my normal style then I have also BRUMMEL, AGUA BRAVA and CUBA RED;………I believe in using a fragrance because it is part of your personality, and when it shines on your skin, then your energy irradiates all around you; and not to wear it because you want to please people next to you.

I generally like the house of Bogart. They release fairly unique scents which are competently constructed, make Montale fragrances seem like body sprays, and at low prices. With that said, the only ones I really love are Bogart Pour Homme and One Man Show Oud Edition.
After giving the original Bogart a few wearings, it climbed its way to the top of my favorite Bogart scents. I was completely wowed from the first spray. It is absolutely gorgeous, restrained, and sophisticated. Where some other Jacques Bogart scents occasionally show their budget, Bogart is exceedingly smooth and rich.
Upon initial spray, I’m hit with a bracing, dry, green, herbaceous note. This is paired with rich, dark, and smoky leather. As the scent develops, the moss and floral notes start shining through and giving the scent a soapy profile, although the leather stays throughout the duration of the scent. I can definitely smell the similarities with Quorum. I don’t really smell Santos here. In comparison with Quorum, however, Bogart is much drier; less spicy, woody, or citrusy; and far less complex. Instead, I feel like the richness of the scent depends on blending a few dense notes rather than a bunch of lighter and heavier notes. The approach almost comes across as just spraying on the heart and base, without a set of topnotes, which is handled perfectly. Some might dislike that approach since that makes Bogart linear.
Performance is relatively tame considering the house which released it, but it’s still a very strong fragrance. I think it’s also much stronger than Quorum. Bogart lasts beyond the 12 hour mark, and projects very strongly for an hour or two. It starts to sit closer to the skin, but it still radiates for a while. It’s not a skin scent for at least 8 or 9 hours. If you like older leather chypres (this really doesn’t smell like a fougere to me), you should not pass this up. A 3 ounce tester can be had for less than 15 bucks.

Very nice scent. A great, masculine Fougere. The Father of Quorum and the son of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme.
Very aromatic, green mossy and herbaceous and perhaps a slight soapy dry down.
    Green, clean and classy.

This is a beast of a perfume! The DNAs of Kouros, Paco Rabanne and Quorum run strongly in this impressive old school perfume.

Emanuel Ungaro pour Homme, Quorum, as said before. They are identical.
I like such incent-birkey-smokey fragrances, but i’m sure that not very many women do…
I own now 7 Bogart perfumes and i must say i am very dissapointed in one thing about Bogart: CINNAMON. There’s cinnamon IN EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR PERFUMES and it’s actually the main smell of them, and I hate cinnamon.
    AND NOONE MENTIONES IT !!!
    And noone warns about it!!
Else a very nice intoxicating grandpa perfume…
Only men over minimum 50 yrs old can wear this…

The first 15 minutes I cannot notice any difference between Bogart and Quorum. After that, Quorum leather becomes stronger. That’s my nose ‘talking’

Okay so thought I would give this one at least one more wearing since it’s been neglected on my shelf for so long now. I can definitely appreciate this for what it is… A very, very strong old school masculine scent! I mean I had heard Bogart was beastly but this stuff is beastly to the beast power! A scent strong enough it can last through work and sweat and washing off and still be noticeable on the skin kind of strong. Not really digging the scent as much as I’d hoped I would though and my wife doesn’t care for it so probably will be passing this one on in the next giveaway I do. Still much respect for this fragrance especially for the price, this is a very affordable old school powerhouse!
    scent – 6/10
sillage and longevity – off the chart!

A real bargain for the money. Thumbs up! Very powerful and masculine. Beasty mode, is the only set it comes. No possible to wear it subtlety…

I have been on a Bogart kick for a few months now :
    OMS Gold
    OMS Ruby Edition
    OMW Oud Edition
All have been fine purchases for me.
Recently Purchased but have not yet opened :
    Riviera Nights
    Silver Scent Intense
    Enter SIGNATURE…
I am reminded of Krizia Uomo immediately. I owned a bottle of it during the 80’s and the current reform. THIS Bogart is much better than the current Krizia and the overall feel is darker and richer. It smells like an expensive hotel soap that you wished they made into a cologne….” ta dah ! ”
This is green/leather 70’s style. Those were incredible days for music , fashion, perfumery and many other forms of art. This fragrance emits 1970’s style and elegance.
It sits heavy on the skin and has very good sillage for awhile then lingers awhile longer on clothes. I’d say the show goes on for 5 hours. I haven’t figured out yet how long it last on clothes.
I just purchased two more bottles tonight. You cannot find this vibe in the high end stores anymore. Tom Ford’s Italian Cypress was in the same vain , although different but the price was not 70’s 🙂 This is doable.
To those of you who think this is grandpa’ish , pay no attention to greatness and continue bathing in watermelon shpritzers, daddy has work to do. 🙂

Very good! A bit old school (reminds me of Pour Lui by Oscar de la Renta or something similar), but very very pleasant.

There’s masculine and theirs kick ass masculine. This Bogart is the latter. Absolutely manly with the alpha top notes of a rugged burly lumberjack. But wait a half hour and the middle notes dry down to a fresh, green, gentlemen king of scent. The opening and base are so different it’s like having two fragrances, literally.
This is not a crowd pleaser, it’s more of a statement. Like saying “I’m a man and I will not apologize for my manhood. Deal with it or shut the f*ck up.”
Although this can be worn by guys of all ages with a more masculine, mature and confident personality, it’s probably best for those over 35. Having that said, if you are a young buck and want the attention of that 35+ hot milf you’ve been thinking about… Bogart Signature will unquestionably get her attention. Just remember 1 or 2 sprays is all you need. Anymore will be counterproductive. Light application will get her to want to lean in to get more of that masculine scent. The boys wearing their sweet unisex scents will be forgotten quickly.

    Much better than I expected!
Seeing it was launched in 1975, I was looking forward to a bombardment of loud oakmoss and nutmeg with a pinch of cloves – and suddenly this leathery chypre/fougere (I cannot decide which?!) pops up and impresses. Agreed, Bogart pour homme (AKA Bogart Signature due to the handwriting on the box) could seem kinda dated and is probably not for guys under 30 years but the style of it also gives me a slight resemblance to Davidoff Zino which was first released more than ten years efter this, so somehow it must have been ahead of it’s time. Being a Bogart fragrance (and especially from the seventies), I also expected it to go beastmode and fill the room within seconds – but it doesn’t. It is noticeable indeed, and also lasts me a good six hours with no problems but either it has been reformulated since the seventies (most probably) or it has always been suitable for most occasions, as it seems restrained and never out of place.
It is deep and very masculine, no doubt but also dry and herbal. Leather, oakmoss, geranium and rosemary blend together and form a blanket of selfconfidence and gives you a feeling of “Here I am, like it or not”. If the term “oldie but goodie” was ever fitting, this would be it.
In my head I imagine a bar in the late seventies, with lots of people laughing, smoking and drinking – Bogart Signature would fit perfectly in this setting!

I really wanted to like this scent but alas, it smells like a damp, dirty ashtray. There is some similarity to Equipage, but Guerlain quenches the ash with a subtle sweetness.

I would like to convey to the great house of Bogart my deepest respect for producing this masterpiece made with better ingredients than regular Paco Rabanne PH and Santos, and with tremendous longevity and sillage at such a cheap price! To the lawyers of coty, loreal and other destroyers of the masterpieces of the past, illegaly acting here on Fragrantica: The Great House of Bogart does not obey to the ifra’s regulations?

Bogart original is one of the most mature scent available,it has an uncompromising smoked leather and some green aroma fleeting around it,i wish it existed more products like this today in the market,i mean new releases with bulk like this one.Recommanded!

As for me this is nothing but just a copy of Guy Robert´s Hermes Equipage. The old version smells to me like tie. Very medicinal, like in a hospital. That´s what I like about Equipage. And exactly that´s what I get from Bogart Signature Fragrance.
It has a limited projection within your aura (signature fragrance). Staying power is ok. A good Hermes Equipage copy.

A fougere in the same family as Paco Rabanne and Captain by Molyneux. Bogart opens with a fresher, brighter citrus note than Paco, and as it progresses, the middle and base notes emerge more smoothly. It doesn’t have the complexity of Paco, but the drydown is a very pleasing leathery-spicy mixture with some greens, and it manages to be smooth and rich without being overly sweet. I seem to choose this one more for daytimes than for evenings, and it always puts me in a positive frame of mind.

  19. :

    5 out of 5

Very, very impressed with this one as I have been by almost all from the Bogart house.
Slightly raucous and harsh on first application, this softens and mellows on the dry down into a beautifully balanced green and leathery scent.
Projection and sillage are good and I’ve had it on for six hours now. It’s still radiating nicely.
Sure it smells old fashioned but it was released in the 70’s, of course it does!
It’s not dated by any means though and I think it can more than hold its own in this current climate of so many so called ‘bubble gum’ sweet clubbing style fragrances (quite a few of which I adore by the way).
It’s manly, it’s powerful and it pretty much smells of assertiveness and alpha dominance.
When you first put it on, it almost wants you to rip off your shirt and challenge random passers by to a fist fight……..but then it calms down and tells you to give them a hug instead.
Green, mossy, filled with lavender and leather then smoothed through with citrus flowers – it’s awesome…..man!!!
Go and buy some if you can find it.

Okay, this one had me scratching my head. From the previous reviews I thought this was going to be a no-brainer, in a good way. So, based on those, I did a blind buy. When I tried the first few sprays on myself, I got nothing but unpleasant, almost acrid SOAP. Or, as a previous reviewer said, “headache-inducing”. This led me to believe I had gotten a stale bottle (Check Fresh says 2012). I wasn’t ready to give up on it yet, so I tried spraying it on an article of clothing. In this case, a shirt cuff. It’s now a completely different bottle of cologne! I get the opening notes of rosemary and lemon, and yes, while there still is a soapy note, it isn’t nearly as prominent, nor as long-lasting. The drydown takes a while and I’m left with a wonderful nutmeg/clove/moss/leather and slight birch finish. The birch would remind you of sipping a root beer. I think this clearly is a case of (my) body chemistry affecting a fragrance!
And I had a similar experience with Quorum Silver regarding skin application v/s clothing. So…if you have encountered the same experience as I…don’t give up yet. Try it on clothing…a shirt collar, cuff, even a T-shirt. When I did this, I was rewarded with a wonderful scent. I have elevated my opinion up to where I can truly say “I love this stuff!”
    UPDATE:
I kept thinking my bottle was stale, so I ordered another one. It comes from a much more recent batch. It’s great stuff! The soapiness I detected from my first bottle, well…that must have been the staleness creeping in. The opening from the new bottle is a very pleasant lemon blossom and rosemary. Very nice! The mid and base notes are much more prominent than in my old bottle, and the drydown is a MUCH more balanced and pleasant mossy/birch/leather.
    Two thumbs up!

this is a great cologne that is very soapy, smells sharp like habanero peppers.this cologne smells like a new magazine in a dr.’s office.the pepper smell is actually rosemary but the leather is unmistakable.

Thumbs up for Bogart. It’s a very green, slightly soapy, leathery scent. Very masculine. This reminds me a bit of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme but I greatly prefer Bogart. This is as if the sharp herbal notes of Paco were blended with the smooth leathery woody notes of Quorum.

Another Blind Buy win as a wearable alternate for JB’s One Man Show. I just went back in time with these two creations. Either one would work for me in my world other than during the scorching heat of Las Vegas summer. Given prudence to the initial spray and restraint from overdoing it, there is no reason a disciplined powerhouse fragrance like Bogart couldn’t be worn regularly in a professional environment.
Come to think of it… we did – we used to! Along with AzarroPH, Quorum, Polo, Drakkar, PacoR, Aramis & ODR Pour Lui!
Now if we could just get David Lee Roth back with Eddie VH for one more Tour…

    Superb, pure class.
Jacques Bogart never disappoints me. What distinguishes Jacques Bogart from other designers is not only the notes they choose, but the way these notes are combined, they make complex fragrances but yet they are clear and amazing.
For this one, I get all the mentioned notes, specially the smoky leather note which is amazing.
This fragrance is different than other old ones, this you can easily like and enjoy from the first spray till the end.
    projection and longevity are great.

Green herbal smokey with a retained hint of animalistic notes. The opening reminded me of l homme by roger & gallet but bogart’s longevity is superior. Leathery drydown. This is definitely for the mature crowd. My fav bogart frag along with Witness

Between the classics that are quorum and Antaeus we have this beauty. Puts me firstly in an outdoorsy mood and then the soapy herby drydown emirates a calmness that’s sublime. Doesn’t smell as cheap as you’d think even though you paid a tenner. Grab it if you see it

Bogart is a blast from the past, in a good way. It reflects its era: 1975 was a time when “macho” was considered a compliment, and when hairy chests, gold chains and mustaches were connected with manliness. Most men’s fragrances from that time reflect similar attitudes. Bogart included. Which doesn’t mean it’s outdated, but it isn’t likely to be an everyday scent in 2014. But men who prefer to have variety of fragrances in their cabinets would be well-served to try Bogart as an affordable addition. For me, perhaps for a day when I am feeling aggressive or want to come across as someone not to be messed with. In 2014 this is definitely a winter scent, and probably not one for the office: too smoky/earthy.
That being said, what does Bogart smell like? The base notes of Oakmoss and Leather show up early and stay late! There’s a smokiness as well, which I think is a result of the Oakmoss-Leather fusion. Bogart isn’t a linear scent, but it works through the top and mid notes quickly enough for me to largely dismiss them. The strong early sillage also dissipates within half an hour, and stays moderate from then on. Which is good, because Bogart’s first sprays border on obnoxious, and don’t reflect the more-controlled personality that Bogart quickly develops. Bogart is strong, but not harsh. It smells of natural ingredients with no hint of chemicals or artificial elements. For me, Bogart exudes old-school classiness and quality, and represents sold value-for-money. It is strong enough that caution needs to be used to avoid over-spraying: I stick with one spray to the chest and one per wrist, at most. For the office, I’d probably just use the single spray to the chest (but haven’t dared to wear it at work yet).
Some reviewers have called Bogart “dated” but for me that’s both short-sighted and harsh, and probably reflects a trial-spray rather than an evaluation after a couple of full days with Bogart. Bogart is closer to a “classic” than “dated.”
Bogart reminds me of the earthy, dirty elements of Polo Green, without the pine. Anyone who finds Polo green to be too retro or old-fashioned probably will not like Bogart. Bogart is something of a “love-it-or-hate-it” fragrance, and definitely not one to buy without testing it first. And Bogart deserves a proper test over a few hours: smelling it on a test-strip just won’t give you a true sense of this quality fragrance.
    Scent: 7/10

It has been a decade since i first smelled it and fell in love with it. i recently bought a third bottle after a gap of about four years. And, even after so many perfumes, the old magic and charm of Bogart’s signature perfume is still intact. The beauty of the perfume is that it doesn’t change much through the dry down yet it lasts for well above 10 hours.

I purchase this frag with all the positive remarks posted. After trying it on my skin, I could understand why so many enjoy this frag. The first notes I can pick up is the clean fresh scent combined with a spicy scent from nutmeg, cloves mixed with the aroma of leather. The base notes including oakmoss gives it a woodsy/smokey scent.
I LOVE the aroma of spicy/greens…very SEXY. Without a doubt this a VERY SOPHISTICATED frag, it has a very distinct aroma…no way would anyone find this frag generic.
Longevity is excellent, well past 8hrs.
Sillage is also excellent, you can smell it and its not heavy at all.
    Overall opinion,
What can you say about a frag that has stood the time and has become a CLASSIC !!!!!!!.
It is amazing that it is only a fraction of the price of most frag’s yet I would pay more because its a well made frag.
This is a TIMELESS frag and well worth every drop. This frag is perfect from the fall through the winter. I’m sure most women find it very sexy/masculine as well.
In my book, this is 100% or 5 stars…PERFECTIONS.
I hope that Jacques Bogart never stops producing this frag….Bravo

I blind bought Bogart based on the many positive reviews, and I am absolutely loving it! Tame the sweetness of Paco Rabanne, add some herbs, smoke, spices, burning leaves, soap and place everything inside a well oiled baseball glove to mature for a year. It also reminds me of being a more elegant and classy Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve after shave Cologne. Very mature and sophisticated. One of the best deals in town, especially if you like a leathery fougere with a touch of the past.

Well well…just bought this blind and I think it’s FABULOUS. I get aldehydes and spices and herbs and its lasting power is very good. The dry-down is a beautiful soapy smell which reminds me of a blend of Photo and Versace L’Homme. I really love this charming masculine scent and it’s shot straight to my no.1. To sum up, I think it’s a retro masterpiece. 9/10 for me.

saw it on sale for a throwaway price and picked it up. a total throwback to the 70’s in a good way.. no green apple or calone note in sight!! sillage is decent, longevity is good on me, i get 8 hours plus. if you like the original Polo or Paco Rabanne PH and are on the lookout for a similar cheapie get this. if you want to smell fresh and fruity, look elsewhere. I for one am glad they still make frags like this.

There may be so many perfume lovers like me who do not understand so many minute details and fine notes…but can feel and understand a great fragrance on a whole….
For them I can say Bogart is a power packed masculinity. I just love its opening…fresh spicy and green blast of masculinity…. great classic aroma… Dry down is fantastic!!! Definitely for mature MEN , not for the boys who admire those sweet-fruity modern fragrances. Good projection and longevity.
Bogart can really be the signature fragrance of a sophisticated successful MAN.
I LOVE IT…!!! Go and get one. If you are a classic perfume lover , I am sure BOGART is for you.

This is a total 70’s fragrance all the way, a good thing in my book. It starts off green and herbal, like a lot of 70’s scents, then dries down to a fat but smooth leather and moss base.
Bogart is not brash like a lot of aromatic fougeres from its era, and I consider it to be mainly a leather fragrance. To imagine what it smells like, think about the smell of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, smooth out the green notes a little, and add a big wallop of brown, oily leather to it. That’ll give you an idea of what Bogart smells like.
This is not a happy, cheerful scent at all. It’s dark and even brooding. However, it’s well composed, VERY old-school, and rather sophisticated. Definitely most suitable for guys over 40. I don’t wear it much, but I really like it.
    MY RATING: 8/10

Between this and One Man Show, Bogart for Men was always the sleeper fragrance and in my view the superior of the two.
It was a solid, leathery fougere that while powerful never was so over-the-top that it couldn’t be worn as a good daily scent. Some of the reviewers are correct about the top lemon accords tending to hide the remainder of the scent at opening, but given a bit of time, the rosemary, nutmeg and clove would take over and provide a very seamless and subtle transition into the leather/oakmoss base. Well-composed, tame compared to One Man Show, and elegant considering its period. It’s likely to seem somewhat dated by today’s standards, but were it to be more available, I’d include at least a sample in my own collection.
Simply, it’s nicely polished and constructed, mature and elegant. Totally maasculine and very befitting of someone 45 and up. Definitely worth sampling if you have a chance.

Bogart is a very wearable, everyday-type fragrance. Very green opening (think fern). I like the latter stages much more than the opening (after it looses it’s initial sharpness), and transitions to the oakmoss, woody, leathery dry-down. Caution should be used with application; It’s easy to over-apply.
The fragrance is similar to a couple of older, popular fragrances. It is similar to English Leather (Dana, 1949), but doesn’t feel quite as dry. It also reminds me of Kanon (1966), but not quite as powdery. Of the three, Bogart is my favorite. I can not envision this being anyone’s signature scent. Having said that, I wear it occasionally to work or to outdoorsy activities.

I love strong fougeres, real blast-from-the-past scents, but this one is just awful. So dry it sucks the life force out of the wearer, with a musty smell like an old garage. If you can imagine what a dead wino’s funeral suit smells like, this is it. Oddly, it’s quite intriguing from the bottle, but noxious on my skin.

It should be sold with a label – Caution!
    Apply with a toothpick!
It is definitely a powerful aromatic fougere, despite of the spices in it. This is a rare case of spices humbly standing aside while rosemary is having a blast. If you over-apply (and that`s what a lots of people do, hoodwinkled by a a fresh lemony scent from the bottle), you will never, ever experience no cloves, no nutmeg and absolutely no woody base. The rosemary and mega-concentrated lemon blossom will knock you over way before that.
The only one other component that dares to raise it`s head is leather, it gives Bogart a pleasant masculine twist that will strictly remind you that it`s a scent for a serious grown up man, not some pagan rosemary potion.
I heard a lots of compliments from the ladies on this scent here and there – but please, I beg you, if you ever wear it…See above 🙂
