PAUL & JOE – GHOST
It opens with a blast of metallic almond and heliotrope, enchanting and beautiful. A few seconds later, BAAAAAM!! It disappears like a ghost – leaving traces of broken glass on the ground that turn into floral seeds of sweet pea, freesia, lily, angelica.
She is an icy ghost with long and pale lilac hair – dressed in almost transparent chiffon and sheen taffeta.
One second she is here, next she is not. Just when you think she has gone, she is right before your eyes and nose.
You want to catch her but you can’t.
In a more technical word, Blanc is a skin scent – the closest ever you can imagine, but she is dearly there. Longevity is short, as she has to return to her nature. But you can always call on her anytime you wish and desire.
She is just one spray away.

What a beautiful fragrance! I got this as an added ‘extra’ with another perfume I was purchasing this past week. I usually wouldn’t feel comfortable writing a review after such a short acquaintance, but this one impressed me on first sniff and hasn’t let me down yet.
As others have pointed out, this is a very light scent – very slightly floral and with the sheer translucence and gauzy, ethereal texture that is characteristic of so many of Jean-Claude Ellena’s creations. On my skin, it opens with an almost linden-like note (perhaps the angelica or hawthorn?) and a suggestion of almond and heliotrope that reminds me of a daintier, more floral version of Olivia Giacobetti’s creation for L’Artisan, Jour de Fete. The scent burns through a few floral suggestions (just the barest whisper of lily and other pale flowers I can’t quite identify) but the almond sticks around longest, becoming the slightest bit rose-y in the dry down.
Other reviewers have suggested a similarity with Ellena’s L’Eau d’Hiver for Frederic Malle, and I have to agree – they’re surprisingly alike. I haven’t had time to do a side by side comparison yet, but I’d say the opening to L’Eau d’Hiver is a little brighter, most likely due to the bergamot, and the dry down more substantial, while Blanc is milkier and ‘paler’ overall. The sillage of both is soft and the longevity is, sadly, only a couple of hours – the only downside I can find to this truly lovely scent.

My second review ever on this site, (first was for Paul&Joe Bleu) i wish i could come up with better words to describe this scent. I normally hate any perfumes that use the word fresh, or floral so i will avoid using those words although i can smell why some folks have used them. This scent is completely unique which i love about it. It is not too strong although i love the scent so much i wish it were a little bit stronger. I am a scent fanatic person, been sampling scents for years and i am newly obsessed with this one. When others used the word fresh i expected green, or citrus type sharpness but there is none of that, it is more clean powdery just showered soapy fresh. This is my new favorite scent. If you like loud floral, heavy sweet, or strong citrus it is not for you. If you want something soft, unique, and just plain good give this a try. I agree perfect for Spring and Summer, in fact smells like a soft spring day.

This one starts off very pretty, hawthorne, angelica, and a little rose with a hint of almond. Mellows out into a musky vanilla – a cool clean vanilla, not a warm gourmandy one. Not much lasting power, and it’s very subtle while it’s there. Not sexy or provocative, but very sophisticated and clean. The kind of scent you could wear comfortably to the office.

This fragrance is rather bizarre, I cant say I have smelled anything else like it. There is a cold, metallic element that is very jarring, its rather chemical and pungent and noticeable from the first sniff. I get the almond and milk, but its not soft and dreamy, instead sharp, sterile and synthetic. There is a perfume-y undercurrent throughout it that is beautifully compelling, but the whole fragrance feels like its boxing with itself. Nothing seems to fit well and its a series of jabs and punches, bobbing and weaving. It just doesn’t flow. I cant wear it because I know it will gnaw on my brain and give me a headache, but I cant get rid of it because its so unique and addictive. Its not a bad perfume by any means, its just different.

This perfume reminds me of Ti Amo Iris, it has that very similar milky almondy scent. The bottle is beautiful, it’s pure white with silver. On the picture I thought the bottle looked cheap, but when I finally got it I was wow, this is beautiful and smells beautiful as well. It actually lasts a while on my skin.

I have to say this is really nice. The top notes come across a little strong to me at first, and the freesia seems noticeable for a while, but then the dry down is really soft and slightly addictive. I wish it had a little more strength in the dry down phase, but it wears very close to the skin. Kind of a “your skin but better” type of scent. I’m keen to try Bleu now.

I sought this one out for a sample as it sounded charming. This to me is Kenzo Amour Florale through the heart notes (luminous transparent white flowers). It doesn’t have the same fruity top notes and it’s a little less orange blossom. They both have a beautiful sweet pea note which is uncommon in fragrances and always a treat.
The base here is a little richer, a little creamier and woody. The draw backs are the sillage and lasting power. I would give it half that of Amour Florale.
If you want a good all rounder this is lovely but I would choose Amour Florale over this any day.

Blanc is a fresh floral created by Jean Claude Ellena. Blanc, which features notes of hawthorn, angelica, almond, sweet pea, freesia, lily, rose, musk, heliotrope and cloud of milk. Blanc shares several notes (hawthorn, angelica, heliotrope, maybe iris) with another Jean Claude Ellena fragrance, L’Eau d’Hiver from Frederic Malle, and in fact, while they are not identical twins, they might fairly be called relatives. What differences they have are more obvious in the first 20 minutes, when Hiver has considerably more presence, and Blanc feels rather like Hiver’s younger, fresher, calmer cousin. The new bottle is very pretty – white porcelain+silver.

First off, I was very disappointed by this fragrance which I had heard described as ‘a cold glass of milk.’ I get no milk notes at all, ever, anywhere, in this fragrance. What I do get is the top notes clear and clean, sweetening down to a watery floral. There’s no other notes at this point, just flowers: sweet pea, waterlily, sunny lily. Very fresh. Very flowery, no milk anywhere to be seen. That being said, it’s a very lovely scent, fresh and like a picture of spring. But I sure would’ve liked to smell the milk. I usually like Jean Claude Ellena’s creations..and I’m finding as I add this last line, that I do like this quite a bit. It has grown on me and now I crave it, in the middle of winter. It is somehow comforting and lovely at the same time. Pale, cool and still all floral. In larger quantities, I detect distinct similarities to Apres l’Ondee. Sniffed side by side (or wrist by wrist), they are very close in character. Lovely. EDIT: And I’ve bought the full bottle. Fell madly in love with this light, clear and yes, after much acquaintance, slightly milky scent. An all time favorite now.

Paul & Joe Blanc is a seriously underrated fragrance. When I first tested it, I was quite taken aback, as it stirred some deep emotion in me which only Angelique sous la pluie had stirred. Something about this is reminiscent of the excitement and freedom of the 1960s, it’s very short skirts on long legged girls with sexy natural hair blowing in the breeze. When I was five, (in the 60s), we had a family friend by the name of Frankie Geraldi who owned an ice cream firm. I remember him lifting me up to look inside the big steel vats where the delicious ice cream was being churned. That smell. Metallic, milky, cold – that is the essence of Blanc. Next time you go to an ice cream van, beg the driver to lift the lid of their freezer and sniff. Someone somewhere said it smelled like a sucked silver spoon. Spot on. Metal without the teeth grinding. Sharp and luxuriously free, this is the love children dancing naked in the rain with flowers in their hair of fragrances. Little surprise to find the same nose was responsible for the creation of both Angelique SLP and this one, namely, Jean Claude Ellena. In short, understated, gentle, innocent, comforting, stratospherically clean. Sunny days by the cool stream, daisy chains and sleepy warmth. Comforting and compelling to me, in a “you are five and in a very good position to dive into a vat of your favourite ice cream” way. Very bi polar, very exciting. I immediately bought a bottle. Just lovely. Spring forward to 2016 – my lovely daughter just scored me 100ml of this for my birthday, so yes, I am still in love with it. And, for the record, sacrilegious though it may be, a few sprays of this over a light dusting of Chanel Coromandel is rather nice too. 😀

This is a lovely, light, sheer white floral, perfect for Spring and Summer. On my skin I smell only a whisper of almond; instead, it’s a beautifully blended floral, appropriate for any setting, and for any age group. The “milk” grows a little more pronounced in the dry down, and that adds a touch of comfort to this discrete masterpiece.
