Typically I go for sweet scents or citrus type of smells. My signature is Chloe EDT as a point of reference. I purchased rollerballs of every Nest scent that I could find and this one is my favorite. It smells nothing like anything I would typically wear but it has an addictive sensual scent that I cannot get enough of. I immediately ordered the 1.7 ounce from QVC. Before I got the rollerballs, I thought that citrine or dahlia would be the one but both of those are EXTREMELY mainstream and boring. Smells like generic everything else but this Black Tulip reminds me of Black Opium but better with better longevity. Very nice and going to be great this winter.

I bought a rollerball of this today to test it out, mainly because I was attracted by the unusual name. This is the scent of tiny Spring violets nestling in a deep dark wood, with the sunshine finally breaking through. You can sense the richness of the earth at its heart. An underlying current of rich spice gives it longevity. Three hours later it was still gently wafting my way. An ode to Spring. I am definitely seeking out a large bottle!

Yes yes yes a thousand yesses!!!!! This is my jam like I can’t!!!!!! Like this is the scent of my soul. It’s is sweet patchy like LVEB. But slightly less sweet. This is like sexy Woodstock ‘69 girl, bathing in a river girl. So good.

This one is my first fragrance purchase. It is deeply and darkly sweet, with a bit of spiciness and just all around good. I got it because it smelled more unique to me than the other selections I went through, although that could be due to my inexperience. The longevity on me is medium. I smell the fruity plum more than the floral, but it’s also there. I feel like this would be a good introductory scent for people who don’t like smells that are “too perfumey”, as it was for me.

I gotta say, this smells very similar to YSL Black Opium. So much so that I tried both on each wrist to compare. Black Tulip lasts longer, but Black Opium dries down into a softer, richer scent. I wish other Nest fragrances had this much staying power.

On the strip test, it smelled like LVEB for few minutes from the opening. But on my skin, it went straight to a heavy plum scent and developed “darker”, “deeper” and started to show a reminiscent of Angel EDP. I don’t detect a close similarity to Flowerbomb at all. Plum and patchouli still stood out the most here. This fragrance is wearable and nice but it got me “confused” with other fragrances. I can live without it for now 🙂

Awesome sauce !! A surprise for me,since I have not enjoyed any of the Nest fragrances…yet. This has just “tones” & “vibes’ of LVEB and Flowerbomb…it is that type of scent..but not as heavy as LVEB and maybe woodier-ish than Flowerbomb…The patch is light to my nose.I see NO connection to Angel….??..(thank God)…lol….But…average sillage & projection….really good scent! I get all the notes at different stages too…nice blend. I will be getting a full bottle at some point…Yea !!

I didn’t think I would like this when I first sprayed in on my skin but now that is has settled…I am in love! This is stunning!

This smells very pretty. Plum and violet, two of my favorite notes. All it needs is better projection and longevity.
. I’ll just have to reapply often.

There’s nothing really to say about this fragrance except that it smells almost exactly like Flowerbomb on me. It’s a beautiful fragrance!

This smells like an essential oil version of lveb. With only one note in common, this knocks that popular perfume out of the game!

Nest’s answer to Flowerbomb, but sooooo much better. It has better projection for one and is just a nicer scent, period. I love this house and I need a FB of this one ASAP

Almost a dead ringer for LVEB, personally, but far more tolerable. Nice and spicy, can easily overspray. Longevity and sillage are great. Warm and floral.

I went to Sephora last weekend to get the Wisteria Blue. Hmmmm — smelled that one and 5 minutes in – ugh. So I toyed around with the other roller balls and found Black Tulip. WOW! This is amazing! Yes, hints of Black Amethyst and LVIE but truly — it’s a gorgeous fragrance all on its own! The drydown is amazing… I’m going back to get the spray and will cherish this for awhile.
I have about 500 bottles of perfume…OMG I can’t believe I admitted this to the world — I mean, like I have a whole bedroom assigned to my addiction. And honestly, I probably only really like 50 of them! Eeks, I need help! 🙂
Happy sniffing everyone!!! Grab this – it’s really good! It lives in my top 50 FOR SURE!

The opening of Black Tulip strongly reminds of LVEB; it sweet, spicy and bold, like other reviewers have noted. On me, it doesn’t smell like Flowerbomb or Black Amethyst. I do get some reference to “potpourri”, which I think is the fruity notes mixing with the patchouli.
The dry down though, on my skin, does a complete 180. It turns dusty, powdery with a vinyl accord and only hints of patchouli. I know vinyl isn’t listed in the notes, but that’s what I’m getting. The sweetness is gone and it’s much darker. It’s kinda weird, but strangely addictive. It has a little bit of a Goth vibe going on. When I first applied it, I was ready to just say “Eh, I already have LVEB and this smells just like it”, but since it changed so much in the dry down on me, I’m rethinking my initial evaluation. I don’t mind linear scents, but I really like perfumes that take me by surprise by changing so much, and this one did. I already own a few Nest fragrances, so this one might be another addition. Longevity is moderate on me with moderate sillage. To me, I think it’s best for late fall, winter and early spring. My advice would be to just try it and see how it develops on your skin.

This was my favorite right out of the box of 5 Nest collection I purchased. Every time I wear it, I like it more and more! It opens beautifully sweet and fruity floral yet has a mystery to it that grounds the notes and makes it feel classy and dark…maybe secretive. Every note in this works perfectly with my chemistry. It makes breathing more fun 🙂

Reminds me of La Vie Est Belle and Black Amethyst. Very sweet.

B&BW Black Amethyst clone. Nice if fruitchoulis are your thing and you miss this scent. Now if I can only find a dup of the one-off Pomegranate Martini. Sigh..

Looks like I’ve finally found a clone of the long-forgotten “Black Amethyst” by Bath & Body Works. Wow! I realize some will find this too potpourri-ish, but it’s intoxicating to me! And it doesn’t have any *vanilla* in it to make it more palatable for the masses, only plum, pink pepper, violet, and patchouli. DEFINITELY in my Top 5.
UPDATE: Very strange, wearing it again (full sample vial from Sephora) and it doesn’t smell the same. I understand I MIGHT either have a cold, or possibly something else… but it doesn’t smell the same. Will have to wear again ANOTHER time to know for sure how much this smells like Black Amethyst.

Wow. No fruit on me at all! Just floral. And some hints of rubber(?!) for a while. Weird!

A nice fruitchouli. Sweet and spicy plum and patchouli. Simple, but I like it.

This is between a like and a love for me, but leans more toward like. To my nose this smells just like flowerbomb except this is more fruity instead of floral. It’s sweet and refreshing but not something you would want to go too heavy on.

Bought a rollerball of this perfume at Sephora because at the store it smelled really great. A few days go by and I put some on on an empty stomach… and man did it make me nauseous! I have a love hate relationship with this fragrance. Sometimes it smells lovely, other times it is wayyy too sickeningly sweet. If you get this perfume, please do not overspray. A little goes a long way! Anywho, on me I get a lot of plum and patchouli and the scent lasts a long time.

  24. :

On first spray Black Tulip is deep and sweet from the plum and slightly spicy/sexy from the patchouli and pepper. The patchouli becomes more prominent as this dries down and this is when the similarities to LVEB and Black Opium are most apparent. I’m glad I tested this on my skin as I would have much preferred this if it stayed true to the opening rather than the drydown.

This is one of those perfumes that I keep spray samples of in my bag as a “oh crap I forgot to put perfume on this morning” sort of scent. It pretty much goes anywhere, does anything. I wear it winter and summer, work or not. I can’t imagine anyone finding it offensive.
It won’t win you any awards, but it’s easy to wear and comfortable. On me it’s mostly fruity plum and in that way reminds me just a touch of Midnight Poison. The rest of the scent is lightly sweet, a little very clean well behaved patch and some other light floral notes. Longevity is good but not mind blowing. I probably wouldn’t buy a full bottle, I’ve just got more interesting stuff but I do enjoy it when I wear it.

  26. :

    4 out of 5

I like most of the Nest fragrances I’ve tried (Indigo & Midnight Fleur are gorgeous!) but most of them just don’t work with my chemistry. However, Black Tulip is a welcome addition and it actually smells great on me too! The initial scent is very fruity and delicious from the plum, with the undertones of violet. I find the plum note is more bright in the opening and mellows as you wear it. It dries down nicely, and ends up being more sensual with the warmth of the amber and light woods notes. I’m not getting much pepper in this mix and strangely enough when I first put it on I kept smelling it and thinking it reminded me of something else in my collection. It was YSL’s ‘Mon Paris’ that it was similar to. Although they have different notes, the overall feeling is comparable with a sweet fruity quality and slightly woodsy dry-down.
Both are super romantic and seductive in my opinion and have good longevity and sillage. If this works for your personal chemistry and you want a sweet yet sensual fragrance, you can’t go wrong 🙂

I enjoyed this, don’t get me wrong, but I found it somewhat generic and quite fruity. It felt deeply sweet and, yes, dark. The fruity scent to me was somewhat like maybe blackberries and booze. It reminds me of a less screechy version of Victoria’s Secret Scandalous. I caught no patchouli. I’m prone to migraines and most fragrances don’t work on me because of this. I didn’t find this triggering at all. I enjoy it for this fact alone and because it is pleasant and inoffensive.

For years botanist tried to find the right mutation to create the ever elusive black tulip. I think a very deep dark purple is the closest they got.
Anyways. We read “black” and all our senses turn to sweet, heavy scents. A suffocating room.
And yet, besides all the familiar and unsurprising notes, Black Tulip hides a quiet attractiveness. I smell a tart fruity note, it’s not the plum. I can close my eyes and imagine a cherry in the center of a dark chocolate.
The patchouli gives a kind of dirty vibe which combined with the plum creates an odd pair.
It isn’t bad but for sure I wouldn’t take the risk to give this fragrance as a gift.

Oh the lovers are going to be the haters. This is unoriginal sweet basic fruitchouli. Nest makes functional fragrances and that’s what this is. Functional. It has a boozy plummy sweet opening with a patchouli bite that is a little refreshing and then it settles back into sweet chemical mess. It’s a slightly different take on Vince Camuto (that one doesn’t feature patch, at least not predominantly). I was reminded of VC with this, then did a side by side. Very similar. I think it is also like LVEB and Flowerbomb. It is not distinctive to me.

This one is strong. I’d say strongest out of the bunch, even over Midnight Fleur. Sort of smells like Black Orchid if you took out everything edgy and weird about BO. I disagree it smells anything like LVEB or Angel or any of the Miss Dior incarnations. I think most people are going to be disappointed if they go into expecting it to resemble any of those. It’s very floral. Smells like a big huge floral arrangement and dark, jammy plum and spicy patchouli. It isn’t as fruity as it is a sort of powdery floral. There’s a bitterness to it as well and I’m not sure where it’s coming from. Almost has a vintage feel to it. There’s more in this than listed here. I do not think this is a crowd pleaser so please test before purchasing.

This is nice. I wouldn’t buy it – I’m not a huge fan of patchouli, but it smells like a plummy garden.

So glad I did a spray and wait test in this on myself. It ends up smelling exactly like DIor Absolutely Blooming on me. From middle notes to the dry down. Whew. I like my AB better. It lasts longer and projects louder. Still a good perfume tho! The bottle is really stunning and this has impressive longevity sillage is more moderate than heavy.

I went perfume shopping with a friend, and I tried that one…I don’t know , Nest just doesn’t really impress me much..
Black tulip is warm .floral, a bit spicy, but doesn’t open up much, and on my skin, it takes a turn I don’t quite like,..darker, very classy…I think some will enjoy its warm winterish vibe, but I didn’t like it that much..It is in the end a linear patchouli scent, not bad, certainly not great..
I like la vie est belle, it didn’t smell similar to Black tulip in my opinion..it reminds me of of a Tom Ford, LVEB is more gourmand ..not one I need to own .

  34. :

My first spray ,I felt it was another LVEB type fragrance and nearly a dead ringer! But the patchouli is really present in the dry down and it starts to smell like Angel to me…If you love LVEB, Flowerbomb, and Angel, this is definitely worth a try. Longevity is very good-have you noticed the ones you don’t like seem to last forever???

Our youngest daughter chose this fragrance for her mum. What a beautiful choice for Mother’s day. I adore this fragrance on my wife, very mysterious, soft, feminine. Gents, buy this one for your significant other and she won’t be disappointed. A beautiful floral bottle as well.

I tested this today and I think this is my favorite Nest fragrance..I really dont care for the others at all but this one is really well done and I would definitely wear it! Its soft and fresh with a little sweetness..and i totally get the black tulip vibe in this haha! I dont really get any pink pepper in this much (which is fine as its not my favorite note ever haha). I will come back and give a better review when I get a chance to wear it, I was testing so many I didnt get a chance to put this on my skin. I would definitely like to have this some day though!

For me, it is a little bit heavy, but I enjoy that at night and especially in the winter. I can’t think of anything else that this reminds me of. There is patchouli, definitely, but it’s much more complex than that. I generally don’t care for sweet scents – I much prefer the smells of the forest than those of a garden that may be a little past it’s peak. I found Nest’s Indigo to be a bit too woody – it would be lovely in a candle, but not as a personal fragrance. Black Tulip feels as if it has depth and a bit of mystery – qualities I wouldn’t mind being associated with myself. I bought the rollerball, but I’m looking forward to getting the spray soon!

I like this perfume, although I feel like it smells very similar to La Vie Est Belle by Lancôme. Sort of a more intense version.

I waited for a long time to try Black Tulip. It finally arrived in select Sephora stores last week, so I went by to sniff it and also get a sample.
The combination of plum, violet, and patchouli is very well-done here. Fortunately for me, I did not get the pink pepper, as pepper on my skin can go horribly wrong. The resulting fragrance is quite pretty — definitely more of a dressy scent, as the previous reviewer noted.
I’ve read reviews likening Black Tulip to the old Miss Dior Cherie. While I do get that reference point, I find Black Tulip to be more floral, whereas MDC was always very fruity on me.
If you like Nest’s Indigo but found it too sweet, or Midnight Fleur but found it too pungent, I think Black Tulip is the perfect in-between. I think I have finally found a favorite Nest scent, and will be going back to get the full size soon!

My favorite of the Nest fragrances. Something mystical and old fashioned about this fragrance, very Victorian lady. I love the soft, violet floral, powdery scent this fragrance envelopes me in, best suited for evening. I’d purchase this again.
