Description

The English brand for hair and body products, Molton Brown, suggests this aromatic adventure for men. The company launched two fragrances this year: warm, spicy Black Pepper and cold, relaxing Cool. Both are created of high-quality etheric oils from different parts of the world.

Black Pepper is thin and warm, but a rich, spicy mixture is burning in its heart. Etheric oils are combined in this composition: temperamental Italian coriander, Egyptian cinnamon, Italian bergamot, Nigerian ginger, Slovenian oakmoss, Indonesian patchouli. The perfume was launched in 2007.

I was a big fan of the shower gel, very invigorating but this one didn’t get a edt for ages. The opening is sharp, citrus ginger and spices, the pepper is evident but for a fragrance with pepper in the name some might consider it a bit tame and not as peppery as something like Marc Jacobs Bang! This wouldn’t be a valid criticism however because this has a much more fleshed out base of mellow, woods and earthiness, I love this fragrance it’s great.

I’m a girl but I really like this 🙂 The rest of the reviews are pretty much valid and accurate in my opinion.

This fragrance is very easy to enjoy and like. When first applied, you get a aromatic pepper, it’s not harsh, it’s well blended. After about 5 minutes it morphes into a bergamot and ginger fragrance with a subtle pepper and a faint hint of coriander. You really can’t go wrong with this. This scent out does itself because what you expect and what it transitions to will surprise you. It’s captures it’s pepper name but it sweetens and stays very fresh.
The wearer of this fragrance would be a distinguished gentlemen in two forms – 1) with a sport jacket with a wine or cognac and a cigar. 2) An athletic guy who is very active — physical trainer or professional athlete. Its masculine and appealing to women, per the compliments I’ve received. Unfortunately, this scent seems to wear close to the skin after about 4 hours. It won’t disspate completely but it does require close contact to really smell it after a short time unless you sweat a lot.
Projection 7/10 good projection when first applied. Warm skin will enhance it projection.
Longevity 7/10 it lasts but becomes a skin scent quickly
    Anytime of day scent
    Year round scent
*To help enhance the projection and longevity, I recommend pairing the fragrance with its black pepper counterparts, deodorant and body wash. Excellent scent for people who sweat a lot. This scent is at it best when applied during warm months or on warm skin. This is an perfect scent for when your being very active the heat really helps to make this scent perform at its best.

A really lovely fresh, clean citrus/ginger/black pepper scent. Smells the same as their shower gel. This immaculate refreshing scent is a great choice for warm weather. Pretty linear, but so-so longevity. I have used this since it was launched and enjoy it as much as ever. For some reason it reminds me of a very old favourite much missed and still mourned from the late 1970s: Ted Lapidus PH.

It’s funny that this was created because of the popularity of the shower gel, since this is what it reminds me of, shower gel. Fresh patchouli and corriander, with violet in the background and some ginger here and there. Nice, but nothing amazing

From the iconic black pepper body range (Shower gel and body lotion etc) from Molton Brown comes the long awaited and much requested (according to counter staff in London) Black Pepper fragrance.
Sadly, this scent bares no resemblance to the invigorating peppery fragrance used in the body range. It starts off with a relatively sharp burst of spice but fades into nothing after about an hour.
Perhaps this is a cheap cynical cash-in on a successful range with an already strong following. Or perhaps Molton Brown is simply not equipped with the right know-how or technology to make a decent fragrance. In most cases, the fragrance comes first, followed by the body range. Black Pepper edt is taking a back to front approach – inventing an edt to compliment the body range instead of the other way around.
Either way, it hasn’t worked and a huge disappointment. Stick to the body range if you want to experience the peppery scent in its full glory.

The first time I tried this, I was absolutely blown away. Second time, not so much, but actually let down. Maybe my expectations were too high from my first experience.
I did initially swear I found some cinnamon.
The smell itself was still nice, but the projection was quite weak.
I hadn’t remembered it this way at all.
What really gets be down about it is that 5 hours later, ive had a shower, and the smell is almost gone from my hands, which some will think “well that’s what happens”. I would have previously thought so, although most other perfume I ever try, whether I like the smell or not, would still be on my hands after peeling potatoes, cutting onions, washing dishes and having a shower. And these are the perfume I find at chemists and cosmetic shops.
Charging $88 for a 50m bottle when the product can’t withstand a shower is a bit rich for my blood.
So, nice smell, shame about the lack of silage and endurance, designer needs to take another look at prices. Yeah it’s made from essential oils but it doesn’t last, meaning constant reapplication is essential and costly.
I am no longer in love with Black Pepper.

    Tried it today.
ginger, peppery smell, and coriander present, and was present for a good 2 hours. The scent became stronger and overpowering(i sprayed it on my wrist and could smell it). It then altered and appealed to me like a men fragrance with the ginger still strong.
After 5 hours the scent died down on me and for the remaining 3 it smelled boring and unappealing. fragrance lasts for a good 10 hours.
not too strong to burn your nose, and not too complicated. a good fragrance for the office, but this is a close but no cigar… it couldve been alot better. but its still better then most ive tried
