Description

In October 2015, The Body Shop is launching its new fragrance Black Musk, following the lines of White Musk from1981 and Red Musk from 2014. Black Musk is announced as the darkest and the most sensual of all the scents. It represents a contrast between light, sweet flavors and dark musk with oriental woods. The creation is signed by Cecile Matton and Ralf Schwieger.

The opening of the composition symbolizes desire with notes of sweet pear infused with pink pepper and bergamot. Intense aroma of heliotrope, which varies between marzipan and almond, is interspersed with ylang-ylang and aphrodisiac notes of licorice. Hot black vanilla, musk black, earthy patchouli, vetiver and chocolate end the composition.

Black Musk is available as 60 ml Eau de Toilette, 50 ml Eau de Parfum and 20 ml Perfume Oil.

The mist version reminds me of zara femme (hypnotic poison dupe? Idk, never smell it lol). I love this scent from the first sniffed, it’s sweet rich a little bit warm but not overwhelming. Longevity? Blah. But it’s a mist anyway so….

This one was love on first sniff. Unfortunately I couldn’t buy it the first time around. However my one lovely friend took note of my longing and gifted it to me 🙂
Onto the fragrance itself, this is how I imagine someone fierce and sexy would smell. The concoction of vanilla with sensual musk will make you one delectable person. I have received a lot of compliments on this. My only gripe is the lasting power. The mist one stayed on my skin for a maximum of half an hour.

Black musk body spray, in glsss bottle.
I think quite nice, this is warm, soft spice, musk, creamy ness.
Perfectly acceptable and valu for money.
Applied one squirt to hand around 10am, and beyond the 3pm mark it’s still there.
I have reviewed the edp and perfume oil much earlier.

Strange.. The mist version lasting longer than the edt and edp version on me :

Layer it with a coconut/monoi scented lotion or fragrance then voila! You get Bronze Goddess eau de parfum
And also, the edt and edp version smells almost like Fantasy while the mist one smells more like Black Opium flanker

  6. :

It does reminds me of the dry down of Fantasy by Britney Spears! Sweet vanilla cake scent without the sour fruit on top. I like it!

(based on the body spray version) I have a knockoff version of loverdose that never smelt quite right to me, but it does smell almost identical to this.
    Mixes interestingly with TBS Strawberry.

Warm musky deep sweet yummy vanilla. I can see the similarity to Black opium except it doesn’t have the coffee note which I personally prefer.

I can’t find the edp or perfume oil pages to add this review, so I’ll put it here.
Impressed there body shop, you made a long lasting fragrance (edp and oil version)
I tried this, the British rose, and satsuma the other day.
I got some notes that are shared with black opium, so if you are on a tight budget this black musk edp will give you the mid to end notes of black opium. Not the same but not far.
    I got,
    Warm
    Sweet
    Slight spice
    Creamy
    Maybe coffee at a push.
Both the EDP and the oil did well, I prefer a spray personally.
It’s not unlike paco rabanne xs either.
Pretty good for a body shop frag, they don’t usually last on me but useful for freshening up in the car etc. you could have this as your touch up bottle for when you wear these type of fragrances. Mixing is an option?.?

Vanilla, probably you have anosmia to it. Granted, on my skin Black Musk lasts 2/3 hours but 5 min is too little. Your nose was overwhelmed by some note (perhaps the chocolate, perhaps the sweet notes, this scent is veeery sweet) and whitenoised the scent, so you didn’t feel anything. Try the smallest spray possible, each month and you can perhaps lift the anosmia.Anosmia happens to all of us with different notes, sometimes it lifts by familiarizing with the scent in very small quantities, sometimes it doesn’t.

The perfume oil smells so nice but after 5 seconds I can’t smell it AT ALL. Not sure if I purchased a dudd but I will be returning this. I have purchased other Body Shop perfume oils in the past and the longevity was always great. Pretty disappointed.

  12. :

I have Black Musk and it smells like soft vanilla and musk. It doesn’t smell like YSL perfume at all, because Black opium smells sharp like cheap coffee.

  13. :

I love The Body Shop products, but their fragrances unfortunately don’t last on my skin. Since they are so affordable, it’s not a big complaint, but it does bother me when I have to reapply constantly. Other than that, I cannot fault Black Musk: it’s a very wearable soft fruity gourmand on a warm vanillic-musky base. Smells like Christmas market stalls with chocolate and mulled wine. 🙂

Black Musk by TBS is not very dark but it is sensual for sure. I usually choose Vanilla EDT or the fruit series (not a fan of white musk at all!!!) but I wanted to treat myself something different so I purchased Black Musk. I wasn’t a mistake at all. I love it with all my heart. From the initial spray I find peppery scent followed by warmth and sweetness, but not so sweet (don’t be mistaken, I am a sweet tooth person). There’s a lil freshness of fruit in there too. I also think there’s some amber-y in BM.
I wear this to work and it’s a perfect scent for quiet cold office just to spice things up a lil bit 😉

have the perfume-oil in the ‘ink-bottle’ ( bottle is nice + recyclable 😉 ) , NOT strong enough. Take a AL-REHAB instead ( musk/patchou …let’s say the ‘Original’..but any of them is better then THIS). Not worth your money.

This is such a well-balanced fragrance, i really love it!
It is a little sweet and a little spicy, very seductive.
The only downside is the longevity. It’s gone after a couple of hours. What a shame, otherwise could have been one of the favourites!

  17. :

    3 out of 5

A very seductive scent. Sweet but not sickening, deep. Dark but charming. It calls attention to itself, but it is not intrusive. I can imagine a young, feminine woman who has a complex personality (a mix of strenght and fragility) wearing it.
Definitely a date perfume, and a very good one at that.
    Sillage and longevity are moderate.

I’m a sucker for musk scents. Up until now, I use Guess by Marciano ’cause, on me, it smells sweet and musky. It also has a great longevity.
Unfortunately,I couldn’t obtain it anymore so I searched for the substitute. Then I tried to buy this Body Shop Black Musk EDT. At first, I was a little bit hesitate because in the past I’ve tried Body Shop White Musk but it didn’t have a good longevity. But luckily, this black musk has better longevity than the white musk (though it’s not as long as Guess). It stays in my skin for about more than 8 hours

  19. :

    3 out of 5

It’s remind me Black Opium YSL and Black Orchid by Tom Ford, it is sweet buttery delicious bit spicy and musky in dry down, love the EDP the most because it is sexy sensual and alluring.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

I dont know why but on me it last like 4 hours plus ,even im sweating soo much, and i have an EDT version. But anyway love the sweet vanilla scent , kinda reminds me of YSL Black Opium

  21. :

    3 out of 5

really can’t complain about this too much because of the price but I’m still disappointed. This scent is very nice. It’s not a dupe for YSL Black Opium but in the same scent family. It’s gourmand sweet with sexy and musky notes. My issue is that this has the strength of a body spray! In fact, I have body sprays that last longer than this “EDT”. The alcohol content is quite high and it leaves an oily residue but hardly radiates away from my body. Within 10-15 minutes, I can no longer smell it on myself. I’ve tried putting some onto my hair or clothes but that only minimally increases the sillage. Considering the 3-5 sprays I use each application and the number of times I have to reapply, I imagine that this won’t last long. There is an EDP version as well as an scented oil but I doubt they’ll be much of an improvement.

  22. :

UnearthlyAppothecary, they don’t last at all. But, on my skim, Tolmis from Korres and La Nuit Tresor Lancome are far better in this class of noir very sweet perfumes. And Tolmis, not that expensive, whose main notes are iris, sandalwood and praline, lasts for 7/8 hours with moderate sillage (and natural ingredients, just like Creed).

  23. :

The body shop makes amazing smelling scents that have terrible silage/longevity. I have the EDT and yes it’s beautiful. It smells better to my nose then Black Opium OR Sofia Love. It is basically a dupe of BO with musk. Brilliant. But of course this amazing swoonworthy smell almost immediately begins to fade. Heartbreaking 🙁 please Body Shop, can you do something to make these beautiful scents last a bit longer ? Also, I don’t think it matters if you buy the oil, EDT or EDP they all perform pretty much the same, I spent so much more on the Red Musk EDP and it is no longer lasting then the other versions.

  24. :

Beautifully composed, dark and mysterious – the name is not misleading here. Perfect for girls who prefer to wear black even during summer.
    ****

  25. :

    3 out of 5

If I blind test this along with Tresor La Nuit by Lancome, Loverdose by Diesel, Black Opium by YSL and Gold Couture by Juicy Couture, I could not tell the difference. This is my favorite of all of Bodyshop’s Fragrance. Obviously it is not unique but it is well done, crowd pleasing, longevity is very good (but does not leave a trail or sillage to coin it properly) and budget friendly. For the price you could not go wrong, I mean there are perfumes that costs 3x as much and yet will last only a couple of hours, if that.

  26. :

I have the perfume oil. Is it just me? Or not? All of the musk series from TBS are the same plastic note! Red musk, Smoky Rose, white Musk, black musk, all of them are sweet with a sweaty note in it. Plastic smell with some rotten fruit. In the beginning it smells good, but when the dry down part in the end comes in, it all smells the same unpleasant plastic sweaty sweet smell. No! big no for me.

  27. :

Reviewing the oil. Really nice wearable gourmand. Sweet, vanilla and cocoa. No idea why it’s called Black Musk. Was expecting something different based on the name. Lovely scent with the wrong name.

  28. :

    5 out of 5

First impressions: lovely blend, in the beginning I thought it was cherry combined with musk, but as it warms up on the skin it turns deeper, smoother, creamier, borderline gourmand; wearable. It stays close to the skin, but it’s a wrist crack. Swear though there is something cherryish in the perfume.

  29. :

    3 out of 5

I have the edt – I prefer the edp, but this was a gift, and I am very impressed! I find it similar to Deep Euphoria – I don’t detect any vanilla/chocolate, just a beautiful spicy light musk. Layering with Jovan Musk makes it last all day with soft projection. Longevity is great on clothing.

  30. :

Purchased the oil. Couldn’t be happier with the scent! Black opium vibes, loving the coffee and pear in it. Definitely a winner. Absolutely amazing layered with Lancome La Nuit Tresor.

In a desperate bid to find something wintery and also affordable, I finally tried this fragrance today. I liked it enough to purchase. I think this will satisfy my craving for something like Opium, but not Opium. Black Musk is just a little spicy on my skin, in a very pleasant way. I do not become overwhelmed by those two nemesis of mine – patchouli and moss/woods. For the price, I think this is a really decent fragrance. It will see me through the Christmas chaos, quite nicely – giving off a gentle vibe. Should also add that I don’t find this scent particularly gourmand, either. If I was Goldilocks, I would declare this fragrance, “just right”.

  32. :

    5 out of 5

    Black Opium with affordable price!
it is very sweet, “Coconut Pie” scent, very sensual but not that sensual, very “cute outside, sensual inside”.
though i love both Smoky Rose and Black Musk (Slightly prefer to Smoky Rose), but this perfume reminds me- or should i say the EQUAL level as Black Opium by YSL.
Smoky Rose reminds me with myself so much, but this one reminds me with my brother.
the sillage is better than any other Musks Series, the longetivity is quite the same for all Musks series
this perfume is very much for someone who has an “Innocent Sensual” personality

I have a love-hate relationship with this one … partly because i expected so much more from it, i think.
On my skin it smells very sweet… almost overwhelmingly sweet.
I can definitely sense the vanilla and the (sweet)licorice, but the pear note smells more like plum to me.
Overall, i would describe this one as a mix beteween dark, sweet vanilla, licorice and ripe dark fruits (like plum and black cherries).
The overpowering sweet notes make me feel like there unfortunately is a lack of depth to this one, which for me gives it a rather cheap feeling. The staying power (on my skin) is also disappointing. I thought it was just the EdT, but i have the same issue with the EdP – it wears off in less than an hour(!)
Despite the downsides i face with this perfume, i really do like it, a lot. Not sure if i will end up buying it, or if I’ll get a similar scent with better staying power.

Hmmm, bit disappointed with this. I bought the eau de toilette and it literally disappeared off my skin within minutes of spraying it. The initial first spray is nice, nothing new though and quite a generic smell, but then it’s gone. I wouldn’t buy this again

  35. :

    5 out of 5

I remember when it first came out in stores, I gave it a sniff without expectations, and I instantly fell in love with it. I bought a bottle right then. For me, this is the best fragrance that TBS has released so far. It smells so luxurious, it can pass for a designer-made perfume. However, it doesn’t last long on me (around an hour or two at most), so it was a bit disappointing. I don’t mind bringing it with me for reapplication though, since it is not that expensive. 🙂
The scent from the initial spritz reminded me of Britney Spears Fantasy, although they are not too similar (Fantasy is much stronger). Also, I think YSL Black Opium Nuit Blanche’s initial smell is a bit reminiscent of this fragrance, although that one is coffee-based and this has cacao instead.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

It’s my favourite perfume after Kenzo by Kenzo. O have the EDP. It smells so good and has very good silage and is very very long lasting. I’ve got compliments wearing it. People just stand there in shock and say: oh what’s your perfume?
It smells like vanilla and it’s woody and a bit fruity and something so enticing and dark that hugs you warmly.

  37. :

    3 out of 5

There should be no chocolate in the notes; just “chocolate-like vetiver note”.

  38. :

    5 out of 5

As compared with the red musk, this one is more complicated and mysterious. Although the oil version just sits on my skin. It doesn’t have a very good silage. It’s likeable too, but not enough for me to buy it.

  39. :

    3 out of 5

I really, really like this! It is fruity gourmand, similar to what others have said. I do not detect musk but that’s not to say it isn’t there. I bought the body mist and hope I don’t regret that – and should of bought the EDT//EDP instead? (they were more expensive — yikes!) I love this 🙂
Dark -black- musk is sexy, sweet and creamy YUM
Doesn’t seem to have good sillage or longevity though!!! URGH! >.

Black Musk by The Body Shop, why did thou leave with all these existential questions?
A dear friend got me The Body Shop gift coupon. I grew out of their fabulous smelling body butters long time ago and, as my skin is stupid and problematic, I couldn’t allow myself to try out their skin care. Naturally, I decided to check out the available perfumes. I disliked Polynesian Island Tiare and wasn’t sure I liked Indian Night Jasmine. With both my wrists already occupied, I sniffed Black Musk and thought: “This is it”. It was all I wanted from a perfume – sweetness, the effect of smelling like a pie/something delicious; I felt comforted by it from the first sniff, it developed nicely on my skin too without any unwanted suprises; notes blended well. I know some describe sweet smells as sirupy, and sirupy can be used here, but not to describe the smell per se, more to describe the concentration of smell (metaphorically, of course) – Black Musk drapes smoothly onto skin and stays close. I can even understand why some might catch an old lady wibe off this. However, as I laid in my bed still sniffing the wrist before falling asleep, I started thinking to myself – as much as I enjoy sweet gourmand smells, can I really say I love this one? Could this be one of the perfumes defining a period in my life? Would I take it to an inhabited island with me? There are millions of oher perfumes in the world, why this? What was The Body Shop’s idea behind this smell – was it just to jump on the Black Opium & Co. bandwagon? What’s the story behind the color Black in the name, is this an automated impression that vanilla + gourmand note (chocolate in this case) + patchouli = “dark”, “exotic” and “sensual”? After all, maybe I should look for sweet, but more unpredictable and less known? In the end I made the decision not to buy this perfume. In the world so interesting and endless I can’t settle for The Body Shop. I think I will have to train my nose a bit longer to know how to separate life treasures from one night stands.

For a cheap perfume, it is pretty nice. To me, it smells like sweet black licorice. Wearing it at work I got compliments of how it smelled like candy/cotton candy. What I like about it is the fact that it has a kind of dark intensity along with the sweetness (although it feels kind of weird to be getting compliments of smelling like candy at my age—-I like the perfume, so whatever).

  42. :

I read reviews on here comparing it to a few fragrances I like, so when I happened upon it in The Body Shop, I gave the EDP a go…
It seems to be a smell that links several perfumes I like together. I have adored Hypnotic Poison for years, and I can smell something of it in Black Musk. Then I fell in love with Flower Bomb… same again. Before long I noticed similar notes in everything, LVEB, Bon Bon, the recent Opium flankers, Poison Girl.
I think this kind of smell – vanilla, sweet, patchouli – has now become ubiquitous.
Shame. I do love gourmands, sweet and dirty patchouli’s, but after CD jumped on this bandwagon (what a surprise) I really am thinking this fashion will be just a phase.
I still like it though. It’s sweet, soft, delicious, even if a little predictable.
I’ll enjoy it, until I don’t! Maybe I’ll dig out perfumes with these notes as an old lady, like I’ve done with Obsession recently, for memory’s sake!

  43. :

This is a fine, but very basic and barely there kind of scent. It’s sweet, but there is no strong vanilla note in my opinion. There’s fruity and milky kind of mild sweetness. Nice, but not interesting enough for me.

  44. :

    4 out of 5

To me it’s like a much more interesting and wearable Hypnotic Poison. It has sexy sweet vanilla but it’s not smothering as HP and it has a warmth and darkness to it. I like it a lot.

  45. :

    4 out of 5

What a waste of money!!! I bought the body mist and the perfume oil. The body mist lasted longer than the perfume oil??!! I can’t detect anything musky or otherwise. After a few mere minutes of a fruity vanillary sweetness, nothing…. ugh. Waste.

  46. :

    3 out of 5

I am very confused on this perfume so I have decided to leave my honest opinion here.
I bought The Body Shop Black Musk EDP for 28 euro and I was so excited to discover all those promising notes.
I sprayed this on my temples, waited for a second and then… No scent!
    Ok, don’t panic, Let’s spray this again. A bit more this time… 1 2 3 …
No scent! or maybe, JUST A BIT. A fade scent of pepper and musk, sugary and plastic.
Of course it disappeared in seconds.
To conclude, my nose and my skin don’t have chemistry with this perfume and now I am left with this, knowing that it’s worthless to use it again.
If someone is interested to try this, I will be happy to swap it with anything else at the same size (50ml).

this review based on the fragrance mist
Black musk, the name conveys that musk will be overwhelmed and mixed to give a dark mysterious fragrance
In contrary, I get a vanilla-flavored chocolate bar.
It is a gourmand fragrance that gives me the same feelings as Britteny spears fragrance believe
I was waiting for mysterious seductive kinda smell but the smell didn’t follow the concept.
it should have been named sweet musk, Delicious musk not dark musk, if we assumed that there is even a musk which is not accurately correct
It is supposed to be a body mist that will be applied on body , but ,as soon as, I spray it a huge amount of alcohol is always released that made me afraid to apply it directly on my skin which is a bad thing for a brand claims it uses natural ingredients.
Its longevity doesn’t exceed 5 mins, and there is no sillage to talk about it I hardly smell it on me.
overall I regret buying black musk I wish that I would have trusted my guts and went for British rose instead

  48. :

I tried this on today. It smelt pleasant but subtle, I was unable to discern notes as described. The oil lasted a mere 2 minutes on my skin. Wondering if I was anosmic to this scent I asked sales staff if they could detect it and they couldn’t! The perfume lasted a bit longer. Maybe an hour. I’d be fond of it for a skinscent however I like my perfumes to last, even if they do lack silliage, so this has to be a no for me, sadly.

  49. :

    3 out of 5

Delightful scent. Rich, sexy and sweet. Simple pretty bottle.
It smells (to me) like a sister of YSL Black Opium. Not an exact dupe – but good if you want a similar smell!
Sillage is OK. Longevity fairly impressive for an EDT!

  50. :

    3 out of 5

I’m sad to say I don’t like this. It had potential for me, being a delicious chocolate-vanilla gourmand, but there are a few things that make this fragrance a dud for me.
First of all, the search of the lost musk… Seriously, where is the musk? I think that if a perfume has “musk” in its name, the musk should be sooo much more prominent than this. In this case it just hides beneath all the chocolate and vanilla and licorice and that freaking pear, which is a note I’ve discovered I usually hate in perfumes, including this one. The pear is really synthetic, it almost makes me nauseous.
Another things is the longevity – I have the oil version, and it wears off in about 3-4 hours. Not something I expected from an oil. Regardless of that, it still manages to give me a big headache every time I wear it.
I think you would like this perfume if you liked very sweet, heady perfumes. Surprisingly this is too sweet even for me though, I think it’s because of that synthetic quality that I smell. I would advice people not to overapply this one as it can be very cloying. And get the EDT or EDP, the oil really is not worth the price, the longevity is so poor and I found that the EDT and EDP are a tad bit fresher.

  51. :

    5 out of 5

I must admit I’m rather obsessed with Black Musk, the EDT is good, but the EDP is superb, it’s so rich and dark, the notes are beautifully dark and heady. On my skin the vanilla/pepper combination is beautifully smooth, smells so good and lasts really well. The only thing I don’t get a lot of, surprisingly is musk, who cares, this is a cracker.

  52. :

    5 out of 5

This review is for the EdP, wich is in my opinion the one to pick. (EdT being to “teenage-y” and the perfume oil just being to weak)
Black Musk is a crowd pleaser, for sure. A sweet fruitchuli with a lot of vanilla and liquorice. Very trendy.
This is what we will remember what 2010-2015 smelled like in a few years. Just like we do with the aquatic unisex fragrances from the 90’s, The obnoxious oakmoss and white florals from the 80’s, the spicy and smoky fumes of the 70’s.
“Hey, remember back in ´14 when everything was patchouli-vanilla-fruit-chocolate-and liquorice blend?
This is in the same family as Loverdose, Black Opium, V&R Bon Bon and Dior Poison Girl. If you like fragrances like this, then Black Musk is definitely one for you 🙂

  53. :

    3 out of 5

Black Musk opens fruity, a bit chemical, then when that part is finally over the good stuff begins. Sweet, smokey, sweet.
I was sooo underwhelmed with the oil. Sillage is non existent and longevity maybe 2 hours. To me the oil was a total waste of good money.
If you like the scent of Black Musk and want sillage as well as longevity, get the body lotion! I apply it after my evening shower and my husband who usually doesn’t smell a thing commented that he could smell my perfume. The next morning I can still smell Black Musk on my skin, so I’d say it lasts a good 10 hours or more.

I tried this one because somebody voted that it smells like surrender by avon, but I can say 100proc. it’s nothing like that, it opens very sweet compared to surrender, I can’t recognise other notes besides strong vanilla. I am not saying it’s bad, it is good in fact, but for the people who not get tired of strong sweetenes for longer time.

Very disappointed with this one. Tried both the oil and the spray.
Overwhelming opening of Molasses and the dry down is just White Musk.
Very soft and wears close to the skin, at least I could smell this one. The Red Musk I could not smell at all.

Perfume oil: This sounded so wonderful, and yet it’s the first perfume I am completely anosmic to. (The second was Red Musk). Not even an initial burst of scent like CK Be. Nothing on the paper but wetness. It’s a surreal experience, and very disappointing, because it sounds luscious.
I’d advise, if you suspect you are even a little musk anosmic, don’t blind buy this whatever you do. I went off to smell the Jovan Musks, and they were still there…

Update: my favourite out of all versions is the edp so had to purchase. The edp is sweet buy I like sweet fragrances as long as it’s not heavy on the vanilla. I get licorice and less vanilla. Think of the licorice in Lolita and add Paco Rabanne black xs (wonder If the bottle colour ideas came from that).
The oil which I wanted and is similar to the edp but smoother, was far too weak in scent and longevity. In fact ridiculously so for a perfume oil. The edt is too fruity for my liking where the patchouli reminds me of that acidic juiciness that I’m not keen on as seen in flowerbomb or la vie et Belle.
Another note is that the edt version reminds me of black Opium but better.

Black musk EDP review: for those who like sweet, very sweet scents. For gourmand lovers.
The vanilla is very powerful, together with the chocolate. To me it’s so sweet and powerful that it’s intoxicating. I do like gourmand perfumes but this one is too much. I would compare it in its power and sweetness to Acquolina or Prada Candy.
This is not for a blind buy.

Was able to purchase the perfume oil via Ebay from a UK seller last month. Love the smell. Tried it yesterday, (I put on 10 sprays) in the morning at 8:00 a.m. Sillage only lasted 4 hours on me. I would have thought it being a perfume oil that the sillage would have lasted longer. Big disappointment. Perhaps the eau de parfum or eau de toilette have better sillage lengths. Hopefully will be able to find these products in the U.S. Body Shop stores before Christmas (would make great presents)!

Has anyone found this perfume in the U.S. Body Shop stores yet? I see they have it in Canada now. Thanks!!

I’ve tried all 3 versions a few times each. Only because I couldn’t smell them properly as they appeared to be light.
Eau de toilette seems to have the best sillage and is fruity sweet.
Eau de parfum is more intense than the edt less fruit and more licorice. This lasts long on the skin and on me appeared to have the best longevity than edt and the perfume oil.
Perfume oil is very intense initially the licorice and patchouli made me queasy and as it settles it’s much better. It’s concentrated version of the edp with more licorice. Unfortunately the sillage is minimal.
Generally I don’t get much wafts with either versions. Had these been better in terms of sillage I would purchase. Still, pretty but not in a wow way. All versions are nice with edt wafting the most. I like the edp version and the oil as these are lacking that fruitiness of the edt. Edt reminds me of black Opium. I find definately prefer back musk to black Opium. The latter is far too fruity and the former appears to be better blended. That’s if we are comparing the edt version of black musk.

I tried this the other day and to me (the tester bottle was almost empty so I dident get a good spritz) its similar to black opium. I have a perfume parlour spray bottle of black opium which is a very good match and it only cost me 8 pounds so I wont be buying this. I do like it though, if I dident already have similar I would buy it

I went in to buy makeup, and I left with Black Musk, it smells very nice, sweet, with fruity undertones, it isn’t overdone, too sweet, or too much of anything, just very wearable…right away it reminded me of The Bath and Body works Forever Red..same type of fruity sweet vanilla scent…
I can’t say it is lots of musk, but I detect some…so not a love, but definitely a like!!

Another fragrance that confirms the trend: sugar is the new black. Yeah, what a fun 🙁
Almost all new perfumes with a “noir”, “black”, “dark” word in their names smell just like sugar or burned sugar or caramel.
I didn’t expect much to be honest. TBS made musk their trademark, but their musk is a syntetical lab stuff that smells like volumised laundry. The White Musk killed my nerves for ages and especially all the dupes that its success brought along the years.
Red musk is laundry plus tobacco and cinnamon.
Black musk is a more gentle laundry with a weird but nice licorice note, quite subtle and vanilla.
It made me a strange effect: I could not smell it after a while or in a very faint way.
Then it came back to my nose after hours. It’s very sweet with ylang and licorice and a lovely vanilla. It plays pikaboo with my nose.
My bf said: “Strong! almost a headache”
Not a fave of his, which is a shame since the slogan in shop was “For when you want more than a kiss…” Maybe you want a headache?
If he could smell it after many hours I cannot imagine what the crowds around me smelled.
Anyway the projection is not big.
I still can smell it after many hours, so longevity is not an issue.
The problem is that I smell it faint (and addictive) while others are probably searching for fresh air.
Not a sophisticated one, but perhaps not too bad.

Thanks, Meliana, I emailed them too, but didn’t get a reply unless it went to my junk mail folder. I look forward to licorice and ylang-ylang, together.

    Allen-at-home,
I e-mailed and Facebooked the corporate office. They told me Black Musk will be coming to the U.S., but they don’t know when. Hopefully it will be released in the next two weeks, I have coupons I want to use!!

A waste of a great name and packaging. For those of you expecting something that is 1) Black and 2) Musky get ready to be disappointed because what you are going to get is 1) Sugar 2) Berries. Not only that, you’ll also get 3) The same synthetic base TBS uses in a lot of their fragrances.
I really wanted to love this one but it’s like one of their strawberry/raspeberry/whateverberry limited edition fragrances that they introduce all year round.
    Put it this way, whil
