Description

Black is a still very new (released in October 2011), but this fragrance deserves your very careful attention. Black Ananda is an ultra feminine fragrance which you might wish to call a great classic from the time of the soft feminine looks of 50s, but its delicious floral, juicy and graciously powdery melody doesn’t sound old to me. No way. I only can wish fragrances of this quality and power ruled today. The star of this season in the Micallef line is ylang-ylang, which shares its sweetness and delightful fruity juiciness with jasmine, tuberose and neroli in the heart of Black Ananda. The top notes reveal a combination of orange bigarade, fresh lemon and irresistible plum. The final notes give a powdery soft impression and help the flowers (this is a floral fragrance) to sit comfortably on your skin. The nose behind this fragrance is Jean-Claude Astier.

After a couple of times of full wear I decided to change my vote from like to love
There’s hundreds of floral perfumes out there but I can’t name even one that smells like Black.I know a lot of people are going to disagree but on me It’s a very unique, memorable and addictive fragrance.
Now I can pickup tuberose and powder but still a chewy,banana-like ylangylang is the most prominent note on me.this floral heaven is sweetened by a jammy fruity undertone grounded by vanilla, powder and warm, creamy base notes (I can’t detect benzoin as a separate note)
Black is super feminine, rich, refined, smooth, voluptuous, very expensive, fancy and classical.memorable, impressive and attractive
Now I’m very happy to have this beauty

    Warm, cozy, elegant.
Classy and femininie. Just the price is standing away from buying it. But who can buy it, you should. For autumn and winter better than for spring and summer.
Love this scent. Combination of ylang ylang and tuberose is one of my favourite is perfumes.

Totally different with my imaginations.I can see that a lot of people find it similar to Organza and Poison.I agree that it belongs to the same category of charming and sultry in a classic feminine way perfumes but doesn’t smell like mentioned ones
Ylang ylang is the star of this show.I couldn’t name any other notes without checking it’s pyramid.it opens with fleshy,banana-like ylangylang and dries down to a beautiful blend of ylangylang, white florals, some vanilla and musk.tuberose isn’t strong on me,neither is powder
to me it’s not a black scent,it’s dark golden and there’s something magical specially in it’s drydown.it’s rich and soft at the same time if it makes any sense, truely sophisticated and luxurious.probably a bit too mature for a below 30 or even 35
not a love for me and I’m not sure I’d buy it if I could go back in time but now that I have it I’ll keep and happily use it
Bytheway I LOVE Micallef packagings.all their bottles and boxes look gorgeous, expensive and exclusive.I’d like to try Ananda Dolce now

Black is a beautiful whiteflowery scent. It reminds me of a kinder/milder version of Fracas. Fracas is a monsterscent – Black is not in any way shy, but a bit milder, happier and more easy to wear. With the white flowers I also detect a mild powdery note and a hint of musk and vanilla. If you love white flowers and Tuberose this is a must-try. A beautiful bottle and box – which makes it a scent perfect to give to a special woman.

This perfume was a gift from a gentleman caller in Charleston over the weekend. He must know a thing or two about my tastes in fragrances or he’s been looking through my reviews or collections and came to know me through Fragrantica.
    Thank you!
The bottle is so beautiful. This is a strangely shaped bottle/packaging. It looks like a black cauldron or kettle. It has a needle stopper that resembles gold. It’s totally a boudoir dresser table perfume. I was expecting something heavy and Oriental based on the look of the bottle. I was also expecting musk, leather, incense or darker and not-so-fresh scents. After all this is called BLACK. But no. Instead this is a very powdery and delicate sweet fragrance of lingerie, silk, satin, lace and make-up. It’s almost in a pin-up model mode. It’s the kind of fragrance I love. I’m super into powder. This was an interesting progression of perfume too. At times it reminds me of POISON GIRL, so I was shocked. Is it possible they stole the formula from this scent? There was also familiar whiffs of the New Miss Dior. Whatever they did to it, it works great on my chemistry.
The orange citrusy opening is very fresh and perfumy, sweet and delicious, and that neroli is also providing the scent with a long lasting citrus but not too sharp. The orange scent turns into a rose but it’s bigger on the white floral notes of jasmine and tuberose. This is a good tuberose. Not too big, not showy not the Giorgio Beverly Hills tuberose and more along the white floral tuberose of Madonna Truth or Dare. This is also a pretty good ylang ylang. There’s probably an unlisted note of heliotrope or gardenia. The white florals are soft and well-behaved.
There isn’t much in the fruit department other than plum and citrus but because the citrus is so big at the top it’s fruity enough for me. This is easy to wear and doesn’t hit anyone’s noses hard not even your own. It’s something to apply lightly on your neck, or a scarf, or a blouse, and the scent will waft softly into the air like little powder puffs or clouds. It’s elegant and simple. I wear this with my evening gowns and black dresses (Black with black). It’s also very much in the style of a lounge singer or Old Hollywood star type of perfume. I’m a Marilyn Monroe impersonator and this is so me right now.
Thanks friend. I am so happy with this gift!

This is a feminine powder perfume with vanilla and white flowers. The black bottle doesn’t mean it’s strong musky or mysterious. It’s really quite simple, casual and sweet. Plum and citruses make it fruity. The tuberose jasmine and ylang-ylang are each noticeable but the tuberose is the heaviest of the floral scents. Vanillic richness. This smells expensive luxurious and it’s beautiful. I wear this from time to time and it’s one of those gorgeous bottles that look good on your dresser table.

This was a really interesting one for me to sample. It was reminiscent of Organza but given I can’t wear Organza (it’s too ‘pow’ for me), this is a beautiful alternative.
The fascinating thing is this dries down into the same scent as 1270 by P Frapin et Cie. A timeless oriental. I enjoyed the sample.

Black opens with a lot of citrus and a dark salty sweet note that reminds me of black liquorice– perhaps it is the benzoin already showing up. There is also a hint of zesty bitter orange. Then the white florals appear. Tuberose and neroli are the most prominent. Ylang and some light fruity plum notes join the party later. Jasmine is the last to show up. Black dries down into a balsamic vanilla with white flowers on top and a hint of plum, on a benzoin base with a bit of musk on the side. The musk is not prominent at all.
Sillage is soft on me, longevity is moderate. I wish the sillage was stronger!
This scent is lovely, sometimes even gourmand for me. What a shame about the poor sillage! The tuberose is very prominent from the bottle but less prominent on my skin. It is never screechy or blaring as tuberose sometimes is, it is well balanced with the other florals and a hint of fruit. I’m a sucker for powders, resins and white florals so this one is really my thing. A true shame about the performance.

I’m really happy that I found Black – I love it!
Oddly, I would not call it “black”, it’s more “nude”, if it has a sense. It’s not a femme fatale type of perfume that pretends to be noticed or desires to conquer everyone. It can be associated to black velvet and lace ( better nude, beige than black), but without being vulgar or too flashy… Black has been created for night, but not for clubbing… It is the candlelight “tet à tet” evening perfume – sensual and intimate… It’s soft, retrò and ùberfeminin…
Usually I do not like fruity perfumes, but this one is more powdery than fruity, the plum is noticeable, but adds just freshness to the composition and avoids it to become too cloying. I detect tuberose balanced by ylang, plum and powdery notes. It is really well crafted and there is not the ONE dominant note. It has a bit the same vibe as Citizen Queen by JHAG or Peau de Peche by Keiko Mecheri or even Moulin Rouge – for me it is the same kind of powdery makeup-like skin scent; Citizen Queen is a bit more plastic and leathery, Moulin Rouge is more dusty, Black wraps you in a soft sweet floral powder cloud, that despite the sweetness, does not lose its juiciness even up to the dry down…
    Silage moderate, longevity 8 hours.

I am now officially confused. A couple of days ago I reviewed a perfume in a vial labeled M. Micallef Black Ananda. I assumed that it was really Ananda reissued in a black bottle. This morning I discovered another sample, labeled “Ananda”, in the same set. They are obviously not the same perfume, because the color of the two liquids is completely different!
Ananda is clear; Black Ananda is orange–like Trésor, which it wafted a bit of as well! How to get to the bottom of this? It’s time for a side-by-side comparison. I have Ananda on my wrists, now I’m going to apply Black Ananda to the insides of my knees. Really. Here goes….
Okay, it’s true: these two fruity compote perfumes are not identical–not even close! Black Ananda definitely features tuberose. It may have been blocked by the fruits the last time I tried it, but now it rings through as clear as a bell. This is a billowy pile of petals embellished with fruit.
In a direct side-by-side comparison, I find Ananda to be MUCH fruitier than Black Ananda. The latter now strikes me as a fruity tuberose while the former seems closer to something along the lines of the ultra-sweet Miss Dior Chérie (now known confusingly as Miss Dior). Lots of fruits either way.
Both compositions smack of pre-Y2K designer perfumery.

This is a sweet, very fruity floral.
I was expecting white flowers and citrus, but I don’t feel any citrus to speak of, and it is also quite powdery.
It smells edible, on-and-off, which for me is not a great thing.
I have a mini with no spray mechanism, so I wonder what it smells like when sprayed. It’s pretty strong as is, with just a couple of dabs on my arms.
I can imagine wearing this again only in a precise mood: I feel good. Not overjoyed, just content. I feel lighthearted or even playful, but not at all naughty. For some reason I don’t feel like wearing the other perfumes I have that would suit my mood. I’m planning on being outdoors. Maybe I’m going to a picnic for my wife’s colleagues. People I don’t know well, and probably won’t get to know well. I feel like enjoying life without making a fuss. I don’t want to smell my wrists obsessively in this company. I’m sort of self-contained within a group.
Maybe I’d wear it for that kind of situation, if that kind of situation ever happened. More likely I’ll test a bit more to confirm and then pass this one along. Not even close to being worth the steep price.

I have a new name for this one!
    Black beauty!
It took me 1 to 2 months to consume a full bottle of this beauty!
    I loved it.
    I adored it.
I loved how it made my room smell after spritzing it all over myself.
I loved how it made my clothes smell.
    It’s beautiful, sultry and sexy!
I couldn’t stop sniffing it from the bottle. ( when it finished)
It took me a while until I was able to dispose of that elegant bottle!
    Enjoyable experience.

Very ladylike and classical perfume.Smells really good but lacks originality. It reminds me a lot of Lady Caron. The longevity is rather poor for such a pricey fragrance.
