The pine is a bit overpowering when wet, but almost immediately mellows out to a darker, luscious earthy smell as the musk and ambergris kicks in. I don’t love it to wear all the time, as it has a tendency to go a little powdery on my skin, but it has a nice sort of comforting vibe that I like to pull out every once in a while.

The lab’s description of this (cf. below) is dead on, I think. This tells a bit of an imaginative story like many BPAL scents do. I picture in my had a dark forest of green with a soft fog around all the tree trunks with a winding path that leads somewhere that I am unaware.
BF reminds me of Vagabond Prince Enchanted Forest not because they necessarily smell identical, but they’re both alike. They both tell a similar story. ‘Black’ Forest is a good designation. The pine and cypress are the wood notes in this and the juniper and ambergris give this a slight cooling or chilling effect, adding to its mysteriousness.
I traded this and I think got the better of the deal. Anyway, I enjoy this more on each new wear.

This scent is definitely “viscous” as the Lab describes, as the pine is somehow juicy smelling in this. Absolutely NOT reminiscent of a dry Christmas tree, or worse: Pine-sol cleaner.
It brings to mind a damp, deep, dark forest… full of mysterious creatures of the night. A soft black musk emerges in the dry down, with remnants of the evergreen tree notes. Gorgeous. One of the best evergreen/tree perfumes I have ever come across.
I don’t usually wear this one out, since it is a bit too masculine for me, but I enjoy it at home on a winter night, usually as a room scent.

LAB’S DESCRIPTION
“This is the captured scent of a cold, moonless night, lost deep within the darkest wood. Haunting and desolate, this scent evokes images of fairy tale tragedy and half-remembered nightmares. Thick, viscous pine with ambergris, black musk, juniper and cypress.”
PINE!
It’s not as scary as the pine in say…the lab’s “Jabberwocky” (Which was the last Pine scented oil I pulled out). However it still dominates quite a bit with my chemistry.
The dry stage of this is way way softer, the musk comes out loads and it’s more powdery, I take it this is the ambergris. It’s still foresty because the pine has left a trail of greenery behind.
This is a good fall scent along the lines of “Samhain” to my nose. Quite powdery and slightly green with a big twist of musk!
