Just blind bought this perfume 3 days ago..
That balsamic opening is propolis and its a masterpiece
3 days after I sprayed 2 puffs on my hand its still here
    Very powerful stuff!! 🙂

Incredible fragrance but that does not make me crazy. On my skin it always remains like the first spray. It does not seem to evolve because Cannabis is still there, unchanged, preserved. However, it seems to me that someone exaggerates in saying that it is the best Oud ever. Absolutely the Top of Nasomatto!
    Great!

    Amazing left of field scent.
I won’t indulge as I usually do – just say that it was strong and pretty unique (slumberous Norne comes close).
Dont care for the notes other than the woods, sweetness and incense.
To me it sang like Subdued Lime, Green Olives and Stainless Steel. thats how it felt.
Its just on the unfriendly side of left field to say get sample before a bottle purchase.

This is just a dark green, smokey, ashey and most of the time overpowering juice that i dont find to be very pleasant and when you consider how expensive this thing is, you simply dont come around the question: Wtf? What for exactly?
Duro is the way to go when it comes to Nasomatto fragrances, yes its still way too expensive for what you get and it has that synthetic feel like all Nasomatto scents but it atleast smells pleasant and not like burned plastic, hay and marijuhana.

If the cannabis you are smoking smells like this you better have health insurance. I don’t find anything good about this fragrance. It really is a thick haze of smokey oud that somehow doesn’t manage to have any real characteristics beyond that. It’s like looking at a painting through an opaque window. You know the painting is there, but you can’t recognize any of its features. It doesn’t remind me of any other fragrance I’ve ever smelled, so I guess I could call this unique, but I wouldn’t want to even give it that. This is definitely a fragrance you should sample before buying.

I finally tried a sample of Black Afgano, after reading about it for a couple years.
I have “Fortis” and I had heard they are similar. I’m surprised the scent overall is 95% same as Fortis, with better performance. You can buy 100 ml of Fortis for a little more $ than 30 ml of BA.
They are not very dark Orientals, but kind of fresh in a herbal zesty way. Synthetic oud, with cummin and bergamot…

Well, Black Afgano doesn’t smell like any hashish I’ve ever smelled (…and I’ve smelled a *lot* of hashish :), but it *does* have an elusive, dark, tarry, mysterious, (dare I say Oriental?) quality. Not your typical fragrance for sure. Sniff, sniff, what *is* that? Kinda nutty maybe? Stink bug? Opium? Labdanum? Stale beer? Not for everyone, but *I* like it. You’re a misunderstood genius, Alessandro! Are you single, and do you date trans women?
I can say for sure that it layers well with Comme des Garcons Avignon– probably other incense fragrances as well.

I spray this perfume in my wrists today, the opening is a little harsh but the base notes are stunning, warm and sultry I feel quite special wearing this. It has this balsamic smoky lovely sexy smell it’s mesmerising.
I’m not good in describing notes so I’m sorry guys I can just try to describe how it make me feel.
I never smoke pot in my life and the only time I smell it was in a 30s guy birthday party and I did not like the smell when somebody told me what it was that awful smell. I can’t smell that in Black Afgano.
It was sold out in the shop I tried but this perfume is in my wanting list. Love it.

I purchase this and so did my best friend, I still think is very beautiful, and I don’t smell like a candy factory. Highly recommended.

Another coarse blend by The House of Overkill. Without exception, each of their fragrances is laden with base notes to the point where you can’t distinguish anything and can only smell a dense muck. ISO E Super is especially overdone. It is like a dish by a chef who has a heavy hand with salt because for some reason his tastebuds are gone, perhaps from smoking too much Afghan weed. Blamage is the other over-salted ISO E disaster, except in that one labdanum is dumped in by the truckload rather than hemp by ship-load. On top of being a total hack house, Nassomato seems to be regarded as the ultimate snob’s preference. No offence, but I hate this house and I’m tired of all the buzz. Argh.

This is not a review but a comparative test of similar to BA scents and finally with the original.
I want just to share my first impression with two similar to Black Afgano fragrances. But if you have a better alternative, please feel free to post your ideas and thoughts. Thanks!
Les Liquides Imaginaires Fortis VS LM Parfums Black Oud
Fortis has edp concentration. The Black Oud is an extrait de parfum.
    First impressions, differences.
The Fortis feels darker, dusty and woodier with a tiny animalic note (very faint, it’s completely safe), a mild woody sourness at the background and a noticeable safe cumin note while Black Oud feels more resinous/ambery with a vibe like shoe polish cream/gasoline and pronounced labdanum. The resins feel like M. Micallef Spicy for Him. Even if Black Oud is an extrait de parfum it doesn’t feel so. Its performance is decent, regular as any modern scent. I can’t feel the difference. The Fortis projects better though. The Black Oud stays closer to the skin but it’s not a skin scent.
Both feel nice at very high temperatures but the Fortis is a little challenging but still it’s bearable while the Black Oud doesn’t become cloying, feels decent at 35 Celsius degrees/95 degrees Fahrenheit.
Overall, side by side comparison seems to favor the Fortis as it projects better and feels slightly darker but Black Oud feels better rounded and much smoother.. Separately both are wonderful though and personally I love them equally..
    UPDATE
    Side by side
Nasomatto Black Afgano vs LM Parfums Black Oud vs Les Liquides Imaginaires Fortis
    Winners
Cannabis accord : Black Afgano. It feels slightly like Kinski, Smoke for the Soul, but not so green still acidic though and strong but bearable. And this is the main difference with the other two fragrances.
Projection and sillage : Fortis. This is the strongest from them and it feels closer to Black Afgano due to smart use of woody notes. Black Afgano has limited projection and stays close to the skin.
Longevity : Two winners, Black Afgano and Fortis. And among them, Black Afgano.. Black Oud was a disappointment but it has beautiful smell.
Smoothness : Black Oud without any doubt. The other two feel quite harsh compared to the velvety Black Oud.
Versatility : Black Oud. It has the best versatility because of its nature, its limited performance. I can wear it in hot summer days as well as in spring and fall.
Darkness : Two winners, Black Afgano and Fortis.
Personally I prefer the Fortis among them.

I was hoping for a cannabis note at some point but nope, it started with oud, continued with oud and eventually faded away with oud. This shouldn’t be a surprise when looking at the top-voted notes, but if it weren’t for the name suggesting it to me, looking for a cannabis note would not come to mind (neither buds nor hash). Oud is one of those notes that I tend to struggle with, but I found it tamed enough to be tolerable in this composition. Granted, I was only able to try it in hot weather, maybe this made the oud note bloom at the expense of the other nuances?

I appreciate the love this fragrance is getting but this smells terrible to my nose. Definitely not for me.

  13. :

Naughty. One word with many definitions, but every definition suits that fragrance.
It’s like a 6 years old boy have come home – dirty, ragamuffin; mother stunned; father smiles. No one understands what happened, but the boy is happy – so all is well.
I’ve chosen all the seasons for night out. For me this one is not about seasons, but about an occasion. You need to be well dressed and have a bit of vulgarity. And yeah, you definitely need balls to wear this thing. Even if you’re a woman you also need them(sorry for this sexism). You know, that kind of person anyone can’t joke with.
P.S. There are a lot of fakes(indistinguishable by the box), I suggest buying in boutiques or official store.

  14. :

    5 out of 5

I tried it out of curiosity to test its performance. Well, it’s not the beast I remembered, this feels weaker than LM Parfums Black Oud and definitely it doesn’t have the superb longevity of Black Oud or the decent projection of Les Liquides Imaginaires Fortis.
I’ve tried it in an official dealer.

    (Review from a sample)
I couldn’t wait to try this one, and I was right. The hype is justified, because this is a super classy perfume, and a very good quality one at that.
It is mostly linear on me: oud is the main note, joined by tobacco, incense, resins. Not much coffee, and concerning cannabis (or hashish? Sorry, I do not know), I’m not sure because I’ve only smelled it once from an acquaintance who was smoking it in a dark and dubious place. Weird memories.
It is generally smokey, not very green. Oud does not smell animalic or barnyard-like, just a bit lived-in if you know what I mean. I personally find it very pleasing even though I’m still a noob when it comes to oud. But it is noticeable, deep and dark.
It is unisex to me, but leans on masculine. Very long lasting. Projection-wise, you only need 1 spray of this, otherwise it’ll get too heavy. Trust me on this ok?
Needless to say, this is on my list, bye bye money.
EDIT: bought it. Couldn’t resist 😀 this smells like black magic haha
    COMPARISON with Diptique Oud Palao
1)Oud Palao changes during the performance, whereas Black Afgano is linear
2)OP is much stronger, but BA is still pretty strong and Long lasting as well
    3) OP is animalic/skanky, whereas BA is not barnyard-like skanky.
    4) OP is more sirupy and tends to be cloying due to the rose, while BA is dry
5)OP gets powdery and shows almost no oud in the drydown, while BA’s drydown is basically like the whole performance, not powdery, just more subtle
    6) OP is cheaper, when comparing price/quantity, but both ouds are good and smell Natural
    7) both unisex, but OP is more feminine

I bought a bottle and it took me months to figure out what to write.
It is very long lasting-the sillage is not that big thing after a while.
It is undoubtedly the kind of fragrance some may love but most people around you are going to hate.
And that happens because there is absolutely nothing in it that smells clean, fresh or friendly. Which means one is going to smell dirty. No good.
It does smell a bit like hashish combined with woodsy notes and the mix is the best and most pleasing part of the fragrance.
But there is a middle note, which tends to last for eternity, that stinks. It really does stink. People around might not be able to tell precisely why they get that uncomfortable feeling of repulsion. I believe it gets right to some primitive olfactory thing about something rotten, decaying. Someone described this note as “cat urine”, which I think is more appropriate for Terre D’Hermes. I’d say a cat that died a couple of weeks ago.
It might be the oud’s quality-a bad one, of course.
So, my bottle is more than 80% full and I can’t even use this as a room spray since I am not living in a cave.

  17. :

    3 out of 5

Maby there is something wrong with my sample but I think it is almost identical to Bvlgari Man In Black. I don’t smell any of the notes like hash.

  18. :

    3 out of 5

This to me smells like chocolate (I’m guessing that’s the oud) with hints of coffee. I don’t really get the cannabis note too much but I think I can detect it in the background. Sillage is moderate but somewhat soft while longevity is moderate at around 4 hours on my skin. It’s good but I prefer Nasamatto Pardon as this leans slightly feminine. This may need some more time to open up the sillage/longevity and scent.
    3.5/5

  19. :

Beautiful, if you enjoy the smell of weed! It is exactly the opposite of every fresh, shower gel, blue scent that is mass produced.
Right from the bat you’ll get that cannabis rounded up with oud and incense. I also get some tobacco and coffe in the drydown, but the weed and oud are there pretty much all the way.
Projection? About 4-5h on me. Longevity is huge on my skin, and I basically have to wash this off. It lasts me 12-15h on skin. So go with one spray to start with.
If you spray your shirt, make sure it is a dark one. This will leave a stain (black juice).
Also, do not ware this if you are driving. If you get pulled over, the cops will believe you smoked some green. That’s how sweet and strong the weed note is in this joint.

  20. :

    5 out of 5

Given the hype surrounding Black Afgano, the fragrance itself is surprisingly quiet and abstract in general. It opens with a slightly animalic oud accord and acrid burnt incense, but soon mellows into a dense yet clean musk and creamy tobacco, with a discreet amber warmth humming underneath.
Speaking of the cannabis note, I can’t vouch for it as I haven’t any experience with any kind of drug substance. But the fragrance does have a faint yet sharp herbal twang which I find similar to that in Jardin d’Ecrivains Junky and Smell Bent Mountain HIgh. While this note is fairly strong in Junky and Mountain High, it’s really only a whisper in Black Afgano, which I consider primarily a nebulous tobacco oud fragrance.
The fragrance doesn’t have much significant development during its almost 11 hour longevity, and remains mostly close to skin.
Black Afgano is consistent in style with the other Nasomatto fragrances, relying heavily on certain synthetic smoky oud accords which unfortunately is not my cup of tea, although Black Afgano is thankfully not as heavy-handed as their later entries. And despite its hype and mystery, it’s not that controversial olfactorily speaking. If you enjoy the latest viril woody amber trend, but prefer a relatively quieter fragrance, Black Afgano might be an adequate option to consider.

Is it just me or can anyone detect spicy notes in the fragrance? It smells spicy and woody to me and I do not like it. I have tested it a few times trying to fall in love with it as it is so popular but NO. There is a spicy-woody vibe in common among all the Nasomatto male fragrance collection which I don’t like.

    @mounirscent,
My friend, where do I start? Why do we go to the movies? Why do we pay to watch a computer-generated image of the allegedly supernatural, make us tremble in fear? Do we not know that the images on screen, are an illusion?
There may a hundred ouds for a dollar each, currently on sale in narrow, bulb-lit, bazaars, that may smell just like Black Afgano— but, why won’t people switch? Because it’s rarely about the product, but instead all to do with the experience, appeal and pride of ownership. Products such as niche perfumes fall into a category of economic products called “Veblen Good”, i.e. it is the exhorbitant price that actually drives the demand.
The chase, the search for the elusive, the thrill of owning something that claims to contain the forbidden, the validation of self worth, and embellishment to pride that comes from the ability to purchase a bottle of juice that costs £4000 Per litre— that my friend, is what the Black Afgano is about. It is, will be and has always been about power.
    It also smells good.

I was extremely disappointed with performance but indeed it is so unique and nice scent but I would not recommended for any one to buy. I believe it has been reformulated and it does not last or project very well

  25. :

I didn’t think this was worth all of the hype but it is very nice. I don’t think this smells like hashish at all but there is a hot mold stinkiness in there. Incense, heat, tree saps, witch hazel astringent.
Update- this oddly grows on me. Initially it seems like there are better scents out there and this isn’t that original but something about it draws me in. It is comforting, a little sweet and easy to wear,

Love it, dark and smokey, as I expected. The packaging went along with the dark theme. Maybe not one to wear at work or on a date, but one that I enjoy wearing during my down times in the evening. Not familiar with the smell of hash, I love it and to me even has a little green note to it. But, this is nor for everyone. Owning also Baraonda and Pardon, both of them I love, this fragrance house is outstanding.

Got a 5ml decant of this and Le Labo Oud 27 the same day, so I got to test both.
Black Afgano isnt the beast I thought it would be (Oud 27 has it beat in that category).
This to me is a bit of a challenge, I’m not sure what exactly it is that I am smelling. I am trying not be be influenced by the note description or what others say.
It makes me think about an old boarding house rented by hippy college students I used to party with back in the 70’s.
Lots of leather, dirty cloths, burnt coffee pot, full ash trays, and a resiny residue of cigarette and pot smoke.
I will need to live with this one longer to decide if I even like it or not.

    The scent of Woodstock.
Coffee, smoke, weed, hashish, cigarette ash, smouldering incense, tobacco, wet soil, herbs, burning liquor, dust, hot melting tar under your feet & 1960 Chevrolet leather seats /a cheap thrill included/.
Black as ink, smoky, addictive & lascivious. I can´t get enough. And I´ll be back for more.

Just straight-up rotten weed. I love heavy, complex winter fragrances, incl. ones that turn off many – Kouros, Interlude, Afrika Oliphant, etc.
This one, sadly, has no redeeming qualities. It just smells awful.

Scored a teeny sample at Barneys and I’m madly in love. Received a compliment from a very stylish woman sitting next to me at my daughters dance class the one time I have worn it out. This is CREAMY almost milky and has a pronounced amaretto liqueur note that I’m surprised only one other reviewers mentions Marlo.refael. It’s got a nutty sweet accord that is wildly discrepant from what you’d expect. I don’t understand how this can possible feel bitter. There seems to be a great deal of disagreement about notes leaving me wondering whether some testers had the real juice. In any case I feel the trick with this is to dab the tiniest bit. Agree try to be impartial from all the hype. This is a masterpiece and my favorite of the line.

This is one of those unexpected FINDS that makes life all worthwhile! It has been a good four years since I have passed someone and asked what they were wearing because I actually LOVED a fragrance on them.
This is THAT KIND of GREAT FRAGRANCE!
    Ohhhhh La Laaaaaaaaah….!!!!
    GREAT!
    ——–
Keep in mind, I have not yet experienced this for myself – so I have no idea how this will gel with my own chemistry, but I was blown away just walking past this woman at the grocery store in La Jolla.
This scent is rich, dark, mysterious, it is a derivative of an incense of some kind that lingers in your mind. It is simply AWESOME! A show stopper!
The lady that was wearing this confirmed that she is stopped continuously every day that she wears it. She was dressed down, unassuming wardrobe choice for this rich and elegant perfume… but this fragrance made her appear “more than” the sum of her parts.
This fragrance will either have you at “Hello” — or you will be running for the hills! I can see how this is either a love — or a hate fragrance. It has that type of resonance. It is too bold to be liked by those that are over powered by a heavier fragrance.
If someone is sensitive to fragrance, this could easily be an over dose putting someone into a mild coma. This is NOT the type of fragrance to wear in a tight quartered office, the movie theater, or a tightly packed meeting.
You need breathing room to appreciate this.
I love it… but then again – I really love fragrances with more substance.
    ———–
This has a very similar quality to Rose Oude fragrances… where it is a very distinct and unique fragrance… very rare in today’s market of Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Shoppe perfumes. This is a rare classic. A much different refined breed. This is a thoroughbred. Awesome. Lovely. Unmistakeable. Leaves an impression. Great stuff! Have to acquire this… SOON! Loved it!
This is like a fine bottle of wine – probably best saved for a special occasion, but seriously daaaaahling… if I had the money – I’d be wearing this type of fragrance every day!
    I LOVE IT!

Luckily I only bought 6ml decant from this ”way over exaggerated” fragrance… I knew it was different and I expected that, but I didn’t expect that I could not get rid of that horrible smell off my skin for hours !!! Not even scrubbing in the shower helped much…
The opening is musky , sweet at the same time, mixed patchouli and wet grass…Tolerable!!!But the drying down process is the disgusting part. All I could smell was dirty laundry smell and a dry spit. I appologise for explicit explanation , but that is the truth, at least for me… In over 100 + fragrances I own in my collection, I have never smelled that horrible stink. It is my opinion and I’m entitled to it…Defo DO NOT BUY IT before you smell it !

“Intoxicating and potent… potion in a bottle.”
Black Afgano is a 2009 fragrance from Nasomatto and conceived by the brand owner, Alessandro Gualtieri. The brand’s fragrances are somewhat said to be a reflection of the owner’s eccentricities, and Black Afgano is the most (in)famous of them all for having a cannabis (read: marijuana) note. I received a small decant of this from years ago.
This is some potent stuff; on my skin, it strongly smells of incense, bitter oud and some hints of tobacco as well. As many have claimed, it smells very similar to Carner Barcelona’s Cuirs, but there are some subtle yet stark differences. Whilst both have notes of oud, Cuirs smells spicier because of the caraway/cumin whereas Black Afgano is more bitter because of the incense. And the big question: does it also contain cannabis note? Well, yes and no. I do get the hint of it but I highly doubt it’s the actual thing: the cannabis note is more impressionistic and play on the senses than the actual drug.
The longevity lasts a lifetime, and the sillage leaves a trail of even across the room. Personally I don’t recommend wearing this in the office daily (unless your colleagues can tolerate it). However, I imagine this smelling amazing in winter or very cold weathers.
Quite a unique fragrance, albeit a tad overrated. Worth trying at least once.

I have had my bottle of BA for over a year now and had only worn it once as I have over 200 fragrances to choose from. One of the days last week, I decided to spray some on my neck (very light spray as it is super potent) and about 45 minutes later, I was in the kitchen when my 24 year old Daughter (who hardly ever compliments fragrances) walked in and said “WOW” you smell good. I made out to be surprised and said, “really” and she said YES, you smell rich and it’s so nice. Another 30 minutes later (my nose was used to it by then,& olfactory had kicked in) she said again, wow Dad, every time I walk past, I get a wonderful waft of that scent and asked, what is it.

  45. :

I am already used to the excellent oud line presented by amouage, let’s say: I love them, I got no problem wearing Interlude all day to every situation. So it was more or less a coincidence that I came across this one: Black Afghano. And yes, what a blast it is. Just to state at the beginning: no, it does not smell like black Afghan Hashish or Weed or Cannabis at all, trust me. It is also safe to wear any time in any location, and no, the police will not arrest you because you smell like a coffeeshop from the Netherlands during its rush hour. But you will get arrested by some man or woman who can’t stop taking a whiff of you ;). BA is a well blended and strong oud dedicate with very dark nuances of leather, tobacco and maybe some cacao. Some people say that it is very linear but I say “au contraire” . The opening is a very strong nearly oily tarpit like and it dries down to a dominant oud with those dark scents I described above. And it projects very well, but not to obstrusive, other people will notice you and as far as I can tell they will like it. And it will last for an eternity.
All in all I really recommend this one and except all other opinions it’s a very nice scent at least I can and I will wear all day to every occasion, speak Business Meeting as well as Restaurant or at home with family. Excellent! I think I will try some more of Nasomatto Parfums line.
    Thank You for reading!

I observed this on a test strip for 48 hours. The opening had loads of oud and incense, with faint greenness in the background. By the 24 hour mark, a strong sandalwood note emerged which was all that was left by the 48 hour mark. As someone from India, for me this is very reminiscent of attar oils that you get in old perfumers’ shops. Ultra-strong and of unmistakably middle-eastern flavor.

This is going to sound pretentious but, I love that not many people know about Nassomatto. This niche house concocts beautiful, unique fragrances and what I love most is how very small their line is. Black Afgano is truly an esoteric, and lurid fragrance. If you are one of those individuals who like to be mysterious yet want to make your presence known, this will be your fragance, and by “make your presence known”, this really will make it apparent.
Notes: I felt like I was being taken to ancient North Africa. My mind immediately went to black veils, hundreds of endless corridors, the beat of the darbuka and Arabic melismatic chanting. This was a fantasy fragrance that I never knew would be captured in a bottle. On first spray, I got weed. Surprisingly I am not a fan of smelling like ganga, but this was a sweet and wet cannabis. Of course follows a lot of velvety grasses like hay stacks in a cedar barrel. Then that barrel is smoked out and pounds of olibanum and frankincense are dropped in and catch fire. This smoke remained on my skin for a very long time. It was not incense, but oud burning. I am pleased to say that this smoke didn’t feel like twigs in a burning dirt pit in a park, none of that kerosene bite. This was voluptuous, earthy, and delicious. The body of this scent is a jewel/bottle nose green texture in a black cauldron. Many say there is a very intense coffee, but for whatever reason, that did not project on my skin at all (which is great in my opinion, I would hate to smell like burnt coffee beans).
Sillage is robust. Longevity is intensely long but not to the point that it irritates others around, though I do recommend not to spritz generously. This is quite a concentrated fragrance as is all of Nasomatto’s fragrances. This is definitely a unisex fragrance, but may I just say, if you’re going to wear this; be confident as hell! This is for the strong and intrepid individual.
    10/10!

This is one of the strangest fragrance experiences I’ve ever had. First impressions were no way – that this takes balls to wear and it is just too much, too dark for me and would be too polarising.
Next try – a whole new experience and one that is utterly addictive. I mean, I cannot stop smelling it – the only way I can describe it is like smelling petrol, which you would not want to smell like but still is a smell everyone loves. This DOESN’T smell like petrol – just that Black Afgano is almost habit forming despite never in a million years would most people ever think they’d want to smell like it. I can’t get enough of it.
This does smell of oud, incense, resins – I get a hash note and a sweet balsamic core – but I don’t get the hash note as much as others do. This is a difficult one to describe.
I love this, and whilst I thought women wouldn’t – well, the only time I have worn this around a girl nothing was mentioned at the time but she couldn’t stop texting about the sexy scent on her pillow the next day. This scent just wins you over.
This is weirdly sexy and it has no right to be. But whether others like it or not is especially irrelevant here – this is a fragrance that you wear for you.
My only concern is the black ink which I think will stain clothes – thankfully this lasts very well even on my skin! Caution is definitely needed with where you wear this and personally I think this is much more suitable for men.
    This has to be tried

This is like if chocolate was a herb .
With some liquer amareto and a nice soft wood powder from the carpenter.
So the weed note is not like the brown hashish or weed….to me it reminds me of
“jaras” from la pass in india the black soft creamy smelling weed oil they make by hand…..this is creamy as well .
    Such a butifull sent.
But…on my skin its a scent bubble
It not a projection munster but longevity
And silage are great 10-12 hours .
Enjoy but also try befor buy i blind bought it i knew i would like it somehow.

This is one off scent that cannot be mistaken. Black afgano is great in the opening and the dry down is addictive. It is an addictive scent. I understand how some people may not like it, because it doesn’t compromise. The author here wrote an authentic script; he needs no approval.
