Every fragrance site has reviews of people saying they had this cologne, it was their favorite and want them to bring it back. So why don’t they? This cologne is so good that people would stop me and ask what cologne I was wearing. It is my all time favorite. Especially when I would say “Baryshnikov” and they would reply “What?” lol

So I’ve been wearing this off and on for well over a year, and I finally nailed down what this fragrance reminds me of. To me, it is like a vintage YSL Jazz mixed with the wondrous slightly aldehydic original Bogner Man. It is slightly “cleaner” than Jazz and I really like Bigsly’s desription below also. I am a huge vintage Xeryus fan, and all of these frags are very herbally green, but not bitter…none of that petitgrain, or at least not much of it. This is a wonderful sweet herbal mixture…geranium for sure.
Is it worth the huge pricetag? Well, that is something you wil have to decide for yourself. My advice, buy one of the occasional minis that goes up for sale.

According to the Estonian site, the notes are: spices, fruit notes, amber, myrrh, labdanum, patchouli, and sandalwood. Think of vintage Xeryus except with sandalwood and without the “oriental” wood. Baryshnikov feels lighter and doesn’t have the fougere quality of Xeryus either. It’s got a hint of sweetness and the main accord in the base is a sandalwood and amber combination. This is a very nice fragrance that is blended just right. It’s not for the niche crowd that wants a note or accord to come roaring out at them, but is instead for the aficionado of vintage designer fragrances. I just did a dab sampling because I had already applied something else so I’ll have to update this review when I can wear it normally.

I used this product and my wife loved it. She has asthma and can’t get along with alot of colognes. This one was subtle and not overwhelming. I myself really liked it because it didn’t project it’s scent around the corner alerting others of your presence like many do colgnes do. I wish they would reintroduce it, or make something that is very close to it. Barishnikov sport isn’t even close.

I still have my old bottle of this. It reminds me somewhat of Calvin. I love the way it starts off like a herbal, floral scent but I like the drydown somewhat less because it transforms into a leathery, somewhat salty, sandalwood scent with little hints of the floral, herbal. My biggest complaint is that it doesn’t seem to last very long on my skin. All-n-all, it was a pretty good scent but certainly not worth the high price I’ve heard people asking for it on e-bay.

I was lucky enough to pick up an 8ml mini of this fragrance online. It is correctly categorized as an aromatic fougere, as it starts off with an absolutely beautiful soft plush herbal accord. It quickly moves into a floral dominated phase with carnation definitely in the mix along with artemisia and a lush mossy base. This middle phase smells very similar to something else I have smelled, but I can’t place it yet. Slightly like the original Calvin, but not nearly as rough, much more novice friendly. I would put his in a category with some of my favorites such as Aramis 900 and Van Gils original, maybe even Jules, but there is very little animalic about this scent, much more floral/herbal, until it dries down. Then there is something like sandalwood and even a hint of leather. I have to say that I do like this well blended fragrance. Is it worth the astronomical prices people are asking for the remaining bottles? I would have to say NO, but if you can get your nose on some for a reasonable price, there is enough worth sniffing here that I will recommend it. Thumbs up.

I had a bottle of this 20 years ago. I can’t remember all the notes but I loved it and thought it was a quality fragrance. I have seen bottles on EBay go for lots of money. Wish I could find an affordable bottle somewhere or that it would be re-issued.
