Description

Balmy Days & Sundays is a perfume about perfect moments on a relaxing Sunday; lying in the grass,
breathing the smells of sweet scented flowers and fragrant leaves.

Balmy Days & Sundays is about lying face-up to the sky, dappled light flickering
through the pale green
of overhead branches.
Green freshness of leaves, grass and white freesia opens the composition and leads into the sweet floral heart, which is blended of honeysuckle, rose and mimosa. A pleasant chypre accord and musk are in the base.
Balmy Days & Sundays was launched in 2006. The nose behind this fragrance is Ineke Ruhland.

    B is for Boring.
Green note is my favorite, and unfortunately it’s usually done in utterly unoriginal way. This perfume is an epitome of such unimaginative, no brainer type of fresh green scents, the cliche of cliches.
If it were sold in Zara or HM, I’d be thoroughly delighted; but for a niche brand, try harder.

Trying this from the Ineke Deluxe sample Collection that I purchased. Along with the notes listed above, the pamphlet that’s included in the set, also adds “chypre accent”. However, do not purchase this scent thinking that you will get a chypre vibe as it isn’t there. I don’t detect oakmoss at all. After wearing this for about an hour, my impression is that it just remains one of those scents that falls in the “clean and fresh” territory, hence the references in some reviews to “laundry detergent” and “toilet spray”. It’s not horrible or anything, it just isn’t that interesting for a niche scent and would fit well within the average department store offerings.

this is my ‘spinal tap’ two-word-review review:
    toilet spray.

Grassy, green honeysuckle, mimosa and musk. It’s all fresh and alive, makes you want to run out to the park and have fun. Perfect for a warm summery day.
UPDATE: After 1/2 hour this completely turned on me and now smells like the original herbal essense shampoo from the 70’s.

A spring staple and huge love for me. Balmy Days And Sundays smells clean and fresh without being aquatic. I’m reminded of my childhood days when my mom would hang the laundry outside in our backyard. It’s the scent of clean clothes drying in the sunshine over a green lawn lush with clovers. Long lasting and smells great from morning to night. My wish is to always have a bottle of Balmy Days And Sundays in my collection.

Upon the opening, I indeed perceive Ineke Balmy Days & Sundays as a ‘green’ fragrance, along with a light peppery freesia touch. However, there’s no earthiness to be found on my skin, and the ‘greenness’ also gives out a clean, aquatic vibe. These two effects combined, acually push the scent towards artifical ‘laundry detergent’ territory. The drydown sees a clean white musk joining in, which only pushes the fragrance even further into this direction on my skin.
The sillage is relatively soft and the longevity is around 9 hours. I’m quite sad that on this ‘Balmy Sunday’, I have to do all the laundry instead of taking a nap on the meadow under the sun. Arguably, I’m not among the biggest fans of clean green fragrances, but I’d still strongly suggest testing before buying due to the aquatic, synthetic presence. And I have to admit that, I’d probably not recommend it over some of the more readily available clean green designer offerings, considering my not very pleasant personal experience with it.

Despite the lovely name and idea of notes behind this fragrance I find it to be unpleasant. It sprays on with a loud, harsh, soapy scent that’s underscored with a large helping of men’s aftershave. The eventual drydown is tolerable and a touch more in the direction of where I want it to be, but it really is not what I was looking for. I’m not a fan of soap smelling scents, or scents that have a harsh chemical/men’s aftershave type scent, and that’s what this is. There’s a touch of sunshine and grass to it, but they just cannot save this scent from being a huge letdown for me. With a name so lovely my expecataions were high that this would be a dewy, grassy scent with touches of florals and little kisses of sunlight. Alas, it was not to be.

I am not sure about this perfume. For the first half hour or so, I get a strong chemical smell- reminds me of nail polish. However I do enjoy the dry down.

Opens very green. I can smell the mimosa, the freesia, some grassy, herbal notes like crushed stems. Not too sweet : a summery fragrance that has no aquatic element, thank goodness. It reminds me of lazy afternoons sitting on clipped grass watching children frolic on the swings and sandbox, of polite diffident conversation with their young and vital parents, of sleeveless broderie anglaise summer dresses, of twirling clover between fingertips, of books left open on a blanket, their pages warming in the mild sun.
I, too, waited to see if a chypre element would emerge, some concealed patchouli maybe, but detected nothing, so I agree with sweetnspicy that this is not a chypre floral (despite the listed oak moss accord). It is not perfumy at all, but is a mood and a scent impression rather than a fragrance: smelling good rather than smelling of any perfume. It doesn’t last that long, or rather, the scent tends to blend into the skin, and those who have been washing with green-scented products for a lifetime may not register the closing exhalations of Balmy Days and Sunday for what they are.

My skin radiates earthy notes (to my chagrin). If it smells like soil, mulch, roots, leaves, leaves, branches for some reason these notes linger and overpower anything else in the fragrance so I usually avoid anything described as “green”. I tried this as part of the INEKE sampler and OMG on my skin it is EXACTLY as described in the liner notes above . . . Fresh cut grass, flowers and stems on a dewy morning. Amazingly realistic olfactory experience and I actually enjoyed it, but it is indeed “green” and not my cup of tea for a perfume. But if I had to wear a green scent this would be it. I highly recommend as it is a lovely compilation for lovers of green and scents of nature!!

This reminds me very much of a perfume I own, Mimosa by Christiane Celle, which was my signature scent for a couple of years. I prefer Christiane Celle’s perfume because it’s a tad sweeter. Balmy Days smells very strongly of mimosa with just a touch of honeysuckle. The fresh & vibrant green-ness is prominent. It reminds me of a beautiful green lawn in the morning, covered in dew.
Ineke categorizes this as a “green floral,” so I’m not sure why Fragrantica calls it a chypre floral. It definitely smells like a green floral and qualifies as one of the best I’ve smelled in a long time.

The opening of Ineke BALMY DAYS & SUNDAYS reminds me of the opening of Moschino CHEAP & CHIC. From there, however, the composition turns into a somewhat synthetic-smelling green, green, green perfume. My cat hated this one, so it fell immediately from contention. I guess that I do in fact agree with him that it seems a bit too chemically to qualify as a green that I’d reach for. Green and synthetic are natural enemies, n’est-ce pas?
In the interest of fair reviewing, I should make clear that I number among those who eschew all Irish Spring green colognes (chez Creed et al.). If you like them, then you might like this one as well.

    Really like this one!
On me: goes on juicy green — but doesn’t remind me of grass so much as mulched flowers and stems.
Then it’s a perfectly lovely floral. I wish I knew which particular flower it is I’m smelling. Freesia, mimosa and honeysuckle exist where I live, but just aren’t common enough garden flowers for me to recognize. I’m familiar with rose (and I’m not a big fan of the flower’s scent), but cannot detect it here.
Can easily be worn to the office. On my wish list!

I love this scent! It is soft and light but lasts a long time. On me, there is no sharpness and very little green. I get the dewy sense and the warm florals. It is just slightly sweet. For me, it is hard to pick out specific notes. It just blends together into a unique, very nice and wearable scent.

    Revising my review for this.
Balmy Days & Sundays is, as advertised, a “balmy” green fragrance. I get grassy green notes, a bit of honeysuckle (which adds to the “balmy” character), and a big rose note. I must say that the rose kinda spoils it for me, just because I really don’t think it blends well with the other notes, but it’s a nice idea. I guess this works as unisex, but it’s really nothing I’d wear. It’s not so much a masculine or feminine as it is a conceptual niche fragrances, which most niche’s usually are. Balmy Days & Sundays lasts about 5 to 6 hours on me.
Not bad, but nothing I’d wear.

It makes me think of a sunny afternoon, not too hot but appropriately warm for sunbathing. Green and refreshing. It’s very suitable for a day out in spring and summer, and I think men can also try this on.

The impression of lying in the grass is unmistakable! I get sweetness in the air and mimosa, but I must be keeping a freshly torn blade of grass in my hand!
Initially it’s sweeter, then it gets green and stays for good 5+ hours.
I am intrigued by green perfumes, so I couldn’t wait to try it and I like it. I would say it’s floral green, not quite comes out as a chypre on me. I think chypres would be stronger.
Very nice for daytime in Spring or Summer.

Refreshing and bright. This opens green and stays green but the florals are what catch your attention. You can pick out the mimosa and honeysuckle. On me there’s an herbal note that I can’t name. Great juice for a day when you need some energy or want to feel like you’re in sunshine.

If Ineke’s ‘Evening Edged in Gold’ deserves a night out, ‘Balmy Days & Sundays’ would serve perfectly for the morning after (e.g.bagels and coffee in bed, read the paper lying in the grass at the park). I like the name a lot — so much so that I couldn’t wait until Sunday to try it. ‘BDAS’ is a subdued, fresh floral with lots and lots of grassiness. This isn’t a sharp grassiness, but almost spearminty without an overload of camphorousness that you can sometimes get with mints. Is there lily-of-the valley here? Smells like it! ‘BDAS’ is labeled here as a ‘chypre floral’ but truly, it doesn’t come off as a chypre so all you chyprephobics -fear not! This is a tiny well-tended garden in a huge field of grass; the flowers always playing second fiddle to the grass. Clean and warm and comforting. I don’t like it *quite* as much, nor does it last as long on the skin as ‘EEIG’, but still think it’s worthy of a full bottle — should my ship finally come in.
