Azzaro pour homme has a very special place in my heart because this is how I remember my dad, a made man, who was very well respected. I know its also known as a latin lover or Al Capone gangsters perfume.

Maybe I will go to many criticisms but I do not find this perfume so special or original. First of all, it was a vain attempt to copy Eau Sauvage but similar (because of the caraway, oak moss and vetiver) the latter is better. Second thing: Many have expressed their opinion saying that the peculiarity of this fragrance is its aromaticity … You wanted to say Lavender I think.. As fragrantica has pointed out, lavender is the one that feels the most. Then the caraway takes over and before “enjoying” everything else, the fragrance dies out. Summary of everything: You have a simple soap bar that lasts a little before revealing its facets. I’ve never heard the vintage version but if it’s like this (reformulated) it’s not that great. Sorry Azzaro but copying Eau Sauvage you do not succeed!

Not for everyone, but a classic manly, masculine barbershop scent. The opening is a bit harsh and will not please everyone, but drydown after 20-30 min is amazing.

I wasn’t expecting much from this, but I actually kind of like it. The anise and lavender opening dry down into a soapy clean woody and green fragrance that is not offensive in any way and would be fitting at work or on a date night. It doesn’t make me feel anything though because it is so middle of the road. Pleasant, but not worthy of a FB purchase.

to Saud before me; I don’t know about smelling cheap; I usually associate that with synthetic and this may be a little bit. Comparing it to Tuscany as others have (Aramis), I would say less synthetic and less cheap.
I love it, personally. It’s dated; and I think the anise opening is screechy but it morphs in about thirty minutes to a beautifully fresh citrusy woody scent with some smoky undertones vanishing in and out.
Similar voyage that Tuscany takes you on as well; but I think Azzaro has created a better blend, and a better experience.
This is going to be a staple for me; working in an office this will get bi weekly rotation no problem; all. year. around.

In my previous review I had a lot of good words for this perfume, but I said two things that proved wrong quite quickly:
    1) It’s not sexy – NOT TRUE! The more I smell it, the more it DOES make me feel sexy and masculine, and nothing makes you more sexy than feeling sexy
    2) My 30ml bottle will last forever – I almost can’t stop wearing it although I have many other fragrances waiting to be used… Next time I’ll get 100ml, and next time is not that far…
    Update:
Last time I was at my mum’s I discovered an almost empty vintage bottle that belonged to my dad… luckily the smell remained the same but oh boy the old one’s way more robust!

So similar in many ways to Tuscany and Havana which I own so unfortunately no need for this but great value for the price. I did find it wore off pretty quickly and did not project or last like its Estee cousins. I prefer heavier frags so not really my cup of tea.

This scent is amazing! I love it, it has something masculine, sensual and clean after shower or shave feel effect.
Compared to the Tuscany from Aramis, even though they are very similar, I really prefer this one. It has a more complex smell, the dry-down is better as well as the longevity. Tuscany is a bit more simple, not as elaborated concoction and a bit harsher alcohol smell. The drydown of the Tuscany is more soapy shaving cream smell (which i love as well). This one also have that feel but I don’t know it smells more high end, and more elaborated than Aramis Tuscany.
A masterpiece! and women love it.

In the journey of searching for what my father and uncle used to have. Of the perfumes that have been established in my nose in childhood, I must remember this fragrance. It was and still is wonderful.

I recently purchased Azzaro Pour Homme and have just fallen IN LOVE with the stuff!!! Crazy, but I simply can’t wait to spray it on every morning! My only regret is that I waited SO long to jump in!
APH is the perfect classic barbershop scent, not having lost much, if any, of its style through the years and reformulation (as noted by many of the reviewers here). This is a HUGE accomplishment in itself when you consider the overwhelming number of “hatchet-job” reformulations foisted on these older gems. An unquestionably mature and masculine scent, not dated smelling in the least, owing to its solidly classic aura. Projection is nicely persistent as a fairly strong skin-scent the whole way through, while longevity is a respectable 6+ hours for me. And one of the best values in the entire fragrance world at $18! Wait…….just let that last sentence “sink in” for a moment……as there are almost 10,000 men’s fragrances presently in Fragrantica’s archives. Absolutely MIND-BLOWING, considering APH is simply a sublime treasure in men’s cologne today!!
For those of you interested in either a barbershop scent or a masculine classic, you won’t come any closer to a “no-brainer” purchase. Truly an undisputed masterpiece not to be missed!
Azzaro Pour Homme (current formulation): Overall 9.5/10

I was in doubt to buy it or not?! I did blind buy! I am wearing it since last day and I’m in love with it! I see similarities between this one and Givenchy Gentleman 1974 but Azzaro P.H is better.
Longevity on my skin 3-4 hours
    Sillage 7/10
    Scent 9/10

I was hoping for a good experience after all the praising reviews, but whew, i was blown away in a sense i would be by a messy public toilet. Opening does have that no.1 and no.2 residue stench, sorry 🙁
So i survived the first hour somehow, and the drydown was ok. Still dirty in a way i didn’t like, but tolerable in comparison.
I like weird and dirty, but with a depth – incense, oud and such are ok, but this thing lacks any depth, even the drydown has screechy and high notes. Probably iris, lavender, anis but with a dirty, dirty vibe.
Sill hope it’s something i’m missing for now, maybe it’s just for much more mature crowd. I’ll give it a chance in 10 years again.

This has a sharp lavender opening. Then it settles down to lavender. Did I mention lavender? I hate lavender. Yuck!

I was wearing this when I walked into the building where I work and I passed A woman standing and talking to some guy. As I passed her she turned and said, “Dam, now thats what A man should smell like!” Over the years I have gotten many complements from Azzaro, but that one stood out the most. I was first introduced to Azzaro PH years ago by one of my college roommates, he was from Iraq and had A decent fragrance collection..I will never forget when he said , “Hey smell this it’s my new favorite!”…it instantly became mine as well….I had Never smelled Anything like it before, it was so captivating..I think I wore it for 2 or 3 years straight before I would even consider wearing another scent. Now years later I still wear Azzaro 4 or 5 times A week….It’s become part of me ..like my mourning cup of coffee.

“Pour les hommes qui aiment les femmes qui aiment les hommes.”
Azzaro Pour Homme: “For men who love women who love men.”
How awesome is that for your product slogan?!?
    Enough said.

Amazing barbershop feel, it doesn’t smell dated because many barber shops still smell like this nowadays!
Refreshing and invigorating, super masculine, super versatile, sweet just enough to not make it too dry. Definitely a great choice to smell clean in the office or on a family occasion, definitely not sexy and you wouldn’t reach for it for a night out or a date.
You will get the best out of it by spraying on your chest under the shirt, trust me! The waves you’ll get will please you a lot and it will smell much better that it smells directly from the skin!
£13 for a nice 30ml bottle that will last forever as I will use it occasionally, a great deal to have such a classic in collection!

Azzaro Pour Homme is still a great classic fragrance even in 2018. This is one of the best barber shop scents of all time. This to me is pure spice and dosen’t smell off one bit. It just really smells great and masculine but not to extreme. I really like wearing this and having it in my collection. I give this a 9.7/10.

The smell after the first spray repulsed me and made me regret blind buying even a small bottle. 10 minutes later i smelled again and was shocked at how nice it was after the initial blast. Very nice old school-ish scent!

This fragrance, this is what i want to wear every time i embrace my children. It is the scent i want my daughter to say, “this is what my dad smelled like when i was a child”.
It smells absolutely to die for, soft, warm and comforting, yet sure of itself. Not old, but classic – respected all around and full of class!
It is a barber shop in Florence after the Sun has gone down, and the chatter of the day has begun to surrender to the laziness of the eve.
It is the smell of an afternoon stroll with your dad in the park. It is the scent of a warm hug from your old man, that feeling of trust and safety in his arms knowing he watches over the family and protects you to no end.
This is the fragrance of hard working men, who love their family and work hard at life to live it to the fullest.
    This is Azzaro pour homme.
    10/10 Masterpiece!

On the drydown, this smells extremely close to Ferragamo F Black (a fragrance I’m not fond of, quite honestly).
This is an 8-10 hour skin scent on me. Overall, I’m happy with my purchase.

Don’t get hooked on the vintage nonsense. The latest formulation is more modern and smoother, and of course a far better value. I have both vintage and a 2016 bottle and nobody can tell the difference except me because I know the scent so well. It’s true vintage is stronger, but it’s also harsher and some people find it dated. If you want more projection with the newer formulation simple apply more sprays. But honestly 4 sprays is plenty.
I found my newer bottle got stronger after aging for a bit. Leave the capiff after using some of the juice and let it sit for a few months to a year. You’ll notice the juice will be stronger. I decided to sell my vintage bottle and keep the newer one.

Fantastic scent for summer evenings, warm cossy but spicy. That was in 1989. I tried this one today, thought that I sprayed something else by mistake. Todays edition has nothing to do with the one from 80’s, my advice – buy a vintage one.

My grandpa used to wear this, my father been using this for a long time, and one day my father gifted this perfume to me in 1995 like it is a family tradition:) Azzaro is a true classic thats for sure and my 2nd fav davidoff zino. Even my 4 years old kid wants to wear it:) There will be always 1 bottle in my collection and 2 backup bottle 🙂

After being dissatisfied by the post 2015 edition (no silver band on the black cap), I found a great deal on a slightly older (circa 2012) travel kit. I’ll write more soon, but it is a better experience for sure…
We’ve had unseasonably warm weather here lately, and something about this reminds me of drinking a negroni (gin+ sweet red vermouth + campari) on a blazing hot day… Somehow’s its wrong, but that makes it good: too bitter, too strong, too syrupy, too thick, too light, too damned Mediterranean… (pour me another…) I’m not always a stickler for vintage, but older Azzaro is better Azzaro because the ‘too much’ (the hint of ‘vulgarity’ Luca Turin addressed is still in evidence.)
Update: as time passes, we get a handle on what reformulations mean & how they are implemented. For an old-school aromatic fougère like Azzaro to lose its oakmoss extract is a bit rough, but the silver banded bottle I had was not poorly fixed nor lacking in character…So the issue with the ongoing ‘updating’ of Azzaro is not only a materials issue I think. Newer (post 2014 or 2015-ish?) bottles feel lighter, smoother and more pointedly abstract. The experience of the heart is not nearly as complex, lacking what Sergey Borisov recently identified as, “recognizable chord of geranium, eugenol (cinnamon-clove) and patchouli, resembling soap or talc” that sets up a dynamic spicy-powdery softness to play off against a suave leather accord. Instead, the brightness of the opening citrus/lavender transition (as spiced with anise) heads straight for a relatively sharp and shallow soap note with very little in the way of a coefficient of friction (‘plushness’ or ‘ruggedness’ or ‘new-car-ness’: most great leather impressions are experienced as texturally) to supply a soft landing. Instead we get synthetic amber, smooth woods and molecular patchouli.
I may be way off, but I think this is the house trying to make Azarro Pour Homme ‘youthful’, and I think it’s a mistake. When I think about other things the house has made (Chrome Flankers or the new thing rather regrettably shaped like a gun barrel) I see that they are aiming at younger guys and a kind of well-groomed date night ethos… Everything feels as smoothly photoshopped as Ian Somehalder’s stubble in those ApH print ads. I really don’t see anything trying to communicate some sort of board room/club chair/downtown martini bar vibe, which is a shame really, because that is probably the marketing niche for this perfume. Unless Tom Ford has picked it up and dusted it off, I really don’t see younger guys going in for complex aromatic fougère compositions… It is an mature man’s game, someone unlikely to identify with the kind of brand imagery the house currently uses to push its product. Better to go the route of Ralph Lauren’s reformulations of Polo, for instance, and let dinosaurs be dinosaurs.

    … strong but not unpleasant…
… not old fashioned but a classic …
Citrus, lavender, anise, patchouli rule… a touch of bitter notes…
…similar smell to Tuscany by Aramis.
A must have in a 35+ age group or in a 50+ perfume collection.

This is a fabulous scent. I love it and especially at the top, but all the way through. It is probably the one scent that if I had to have just one – this would be it. if you don’t love this scent, and don’t like lavender, and want pachouli and iris instead, and you would want this changed or something else, then why would you wear it and not just wear something else?? there are plenty of iris scents for men on the market today, but this is an elegant scent from the late 70’s for men.

What can be said that hasn’t already been said? I don’t know, I haven’t heard anything, other than one poster who claimed Mr Belvedere wears this. I’m pretty sure Mr Belvedere wore a dandy type scent, not this. Historically the Marlboro ad dudes from the seventies wore this. All guys who were hairy studs back in the day wore this, their children respect the smell out of this one also. Who doesn’t respect THE scent that is considered by experts to be the peak in male fougere scents? It’s all downhill after this one

    Azzaro pour homme vintage

Extremely outdated scent, reminds me Mary Kay Tribute for men (my father used to wear). Very common oldschool barbershop cologne. Dries to a lot smoother, leather dominant, timeless classic fougere. Makes pleasant impression on older men, but they really do like to overspray it.

I like everything about this frag in the opening notes.
Massive load of synthetic lavender in a dry down is a big turnoff, makes it smell very ordinary.

    The scent of memories.
Very comforting masculine fragrance with vintage vibe.
Pure barbershop cologne that gets better as it dries down.
It is elegant but not many now will appreciate it so don’t expect complements with this one but also you will not offend anyone with it.

I came back to the “roots” !!
Never boring! It always works ….
A classic scent that never goes out of fashion ….
Rejuvenating, natural and yet special gentleman smells!
The bottle is classy! The juice is timeless and sophisticated!
It has a kind of sympathy that it radiates from itself!
When the quality is flourishing and captivating …….
If I had to choose a single scent I would only use it?
I could easily choose Azzaro Pour Homme …..
    Perfect!

This is my kind of cologne! A manly beast of a cologne all mossy green with pronounced patchouli and musk with touches of aromatic lavender and lemony citruses in a concoction that comes through as clean strong and soapy masculine. Unfortunately and shamefully this is the kind of men’s fragrance which is hard to find. There is nothing remotely similar to this selling out there today. It has a lot of quality ingredients found only in vintage 1970s 1980s men’s cologne. The bottle is iconic and heavier than most bottles which weigh nothing. I bought my current cologne from eBay where one can buy practically any discontinued frag in the universe.
The fresh citric notes at the opening are lemony and a tad medicinal but traditional and typical of aromatic fougeres with a top lavender note. The lavender is quite potent and deep smelling of patchouli herbs and spices with green touches courtesy of basil. The spices here are light but detectable with anise and caraway. This part of the fragrance is evocative of such frags heavy on greens and spices as Tuscany by Aramis to which this frag has been compared. For me though it’s greener and fresh before it gets into familiar fougere territory and mature masculine scent in the vein of Drakkar Noir Tsar Van Cleef & Arpels and definitely vintage Bijan. I love Bijan and this fragrance is like a close cousin.
The dry portion is musk, green moss and leather. There’s very little on the sweet side but a few flashes of sweet clean notes come through such as ginger (cardamom) juniper berries vanilla courtesy of the tonka bean. The leather comes through communicating a confident masculinity and elegance like a leather glove. This fragrance contrary to what some people say is not an old man smell as in Polo Green but it has a classiness and elegance with an alpha male quality missing in today’s gourmand fresh aquatic day to day boring soapy men’s colognes. This fragrance has a depth and complexity that speaks of timber, patchouli, leather, spices, woods and musk, all the aspects of a strong and very long lasting cologne masterpiece.
Sillage and longevity are excellent. Works great in cooler colder weather so this cologne is suitable for wearing with coats and leather jackets in the autumn and in the winter. The scent is evocative of lumberjacks and forests, horse leather, cowboys and a manly musky scent that should be easy to wear with the chemistry of a man between the ages of 37 and into the 50s 60s. This is a beast cologne so one two spritzes is enough otherwise it’s overpowering and cough inducing. This is a classic manly fragrance and has a following that is beautiful to see after all the years.

A true classic treasure. I don’t know the vintage version, but can picture it being a beast! I think most people who gave negative reviews are either One Million type boys or they just spray and immediately come to conclusions in few minutes. Azzaro PH needs time, it needs a review after a day it lasts on your neck and white shirt’s collar. This is the best barbershop vibe you can get in my opinion, together with A&F Woods. I think it’s timeless in a way, which differs Azzaro PH from other classic men’s frags like Aramis, Paco Rabanne, Kouros etc. Azzaro PH smells more modern in a way, especially after the top notes. The silage it gives is so different than what you smell up close, so pay attention to this detail when judging this masterpiece!
It opens up sharp with levander, oakmoss and anise with hint of spices. I personally hate anise in fragrances, because it’s the main ingredient of our national alcoholic drink – Raki – in Turkey. But Azzaro PH nails it with an amazing blend! And after few minutes my oh my it turns into this modern classic scent, that makes you feel classy, confident. I think oakmoss is the most dominant note accompanied by vetiver, patchouli and woods. For what you pay also this is waaaay much to get in return.
Best occassion i can imagine is on a cool sunny Sunday after a clean shave, going out for a bit- or as an everyday office scent.

Both powerful and soft. I would call it balsamic. The anise is the star. It stands out. I do not love that ingredient, but I love this edt. The scent pyramid is vast (I admit I cannot identify all the listed scents when I wear this), but the melange is supremely satisfying. I feel majestic and powerful when I wear Azzaro. It is a past and future classic. I love to wear this on days I attend an important meeting for a real morale boost.
I would purchase this at a higher price point.

This really is one that you need to try the vintage version of to understand what a masterpiece this used to be. It was the best smelling scent period.in the 90’s i used the aftershave splash and would get compliments 8hrs after applying after being in a club all night. both sexes loved it and it left a huge scent trail with people trying to get a whiff .I have the latest version and i dont wear it because it makes me feel so disapointed . It does not have the sharpness, dirtyness or the strong spice. there are still some original bottles available usually overseas for a price and i am thinking of getting hold of one to bring back the feelings this used to give me.

You enter the room wearing this, you’re the boss. The top-heavy sweetish boyish crap that is so trendy at the moment couldn’t hold a candle to the seriousness of this powerhouse. Never mind the affordable price, this stuff is a legend, perhaps the most important fragrance for men ever created.
In this you’ll find formality, discipline, adventure, ideas, confidence, solace. It cuts out a pocket in time and the universe that is just *you*, you will wear this like full body armor.
This is a classic that decades after its introduction still steamrolls the pretenders. Azzaro Pour Homme is all the things Paco Rabanne 1 Million and Trussardi Uomo are trying to be, the standard set in the 1970s that no other would-be tough guy smell has managed to live up to. It is unbeatable in its sophistication, an absolute masterpiece.
I don’t think age matters much with this one. I can pull it off, and I’m 35, and my grandfather wore this right up to his last years. But confidence does. I can’t imagine this working with anyone who uses it too casually. This isn’t a just-so choice. You need to be serious about wearing this. If you are, it will amplify all the strongest and most appealing features of your character.
No matter how you wear this, whether to the office, outdoors, for a drive, or for an Italian summer holiday, and no matter what you are, whether that’s a banker, a designer, a pilot, or a teacher: This is for the kind of man who is comfortable where he is, doesn’t have anything to prove, and has not the slightest hint of a doubt about his masculinity. This is the shit.

    Fragrance -Azzaro pour Homme
    Bottle from – 2015
Azzaro pour Homme is a aromatic, earthy, spicy, masculine, just a little bit herbal, classic and enchanted by the old-school ways scent with powerful opening notes of citrus, lavender and spices that give way to a earthy, woody, spicy vetiver-patchouli blend in the middle, and a nice mix of leather, vetiver and amber in the drydown.Reminds me a little bit of a passionate middle-aged gentleman.Azzaro pour Homme is a classic scent, but I don’t think it’s outdated.”Quality/Cost Ratio” is high.

Silage/Projection – 7/10(nice projection and silage for the first 2-3 hours)

la Azzaro pour Homme. Spray 5 or 6 times and it lasts all day, but normally I just do 1 or 2, and then one to the wrist. make sure one of them hits your shirt somewhat.
It’s like a lavender musk with orange, some elegant dust and sandalwood, some anise, definitely anise, definitely lavender, and juniper.
The anise and lavender combo makes it a little candy like, the juniper gives a berry smell, and add the sunny citrus, amber and all the other notes and it becomes quite complex and just smells real nice. it’s not rough, but rather soft, sunny and wafting with various facets. There is a lot of natural lavender in this mixed with anise, like pulling your hands through lavender plants, stems and flowers and all. This is a good dose of furry musk.
Azzaro lists vetiver, but it’s not a main player. I mean you can smell some dry juicy greenness, but it doesnt get smokey or come centerstage.
This is fresh lavender clean, but also musky soft spicy too.
Sprayed onto curtain and wafted it smells very elegant, and I assume this is what the sillage smells like.

A lot going on in this fougere. Lavender, anise, oakmoss and maybe some kind of leather are the most prominent. Similar style to Grey Flannel or Guerlain Vetiver albiet different notes. Barbershop, bold, clean and classic.
This smells like grandpa. Very “masculine”; probably more wearable in cooler months. Sillage, projection and longevity are all average. I get around eight hours from this. Formal, not very sexy, might offend at work. Bottle looks cool almost futuristic to me. Sprayer is okay. It is dirt cheap online but try before you buy. Definitely one I wear for myself. Not expecting compliments but damn this stuff is good!

The “Refillable” version is so weak now…
The beautiful base is now gone and I hardly smell any anise in the current version.
Edit: The “Refillable” version is not so bad but, I won’t be replacing this current bottle I have whenever it’s done.

This scent reminds me of my grandfather. APH is pretty old school and quite different from the sweeter or “fresher” fragrances that are popular these days. It’s distinctively masculine and definitely better suited to slightly more seasoned gentlemen.
I’m not experienced enough to describe the notes, but here’s my impression of this cologne. I get a strong herbal mossy opening with anise and oak moss. Then after a few minutes, it turns soapy and clean. It dries down with lovely leather that is soft and not rustic.
Projection was pretty strong for the first 2 hours after which it was a little better than a skin scent. Total longevity was about 4 hours with 4-5 sprays which is average given I live in a high altitude desert.
Definitely a great cologne for work since it’s clean and dry. Might not be a good choice for a date night fragrance especially if you’re young as it is lacking in sexiness. It’s just more of a professional gentlemen’s scent.

Nothing to what it used to be back in the late 70s/early 80s. This fragrance has been destroyed.

Death of a legend.I am disappointed with the state of the scent now.I won’t be using “reformulation” tag as I hate the word but I must admit something has changed. It is not the same scent anymore.I have the latest formulation without oakmoss & tremoss with refillable bottle.Longevity & the anise opening is same but it lacks the gorgeous drydown which the previous iterations with oakmoss and tremoss had.The drydown had heavy musky ambergris. It is gone now.
By the way I am a regular user of Azzaro Pour Homme.
Am I the only one feeling this or other users of Azzaro pour Homme feel the same way???

This might be an odd thing to say about the fragrance that epitomises chest-thumping 80s masculinity: I’m surprised how easily wearable Azzaro pour Homme is, even today. Yes, some of the old powerhouse scents are hard to pull off these days, but this isn’t one of them.
The problem is that in the era of spinelessly transparent body mists men have forgotten the most basic rule of fragrance: Less is more. If you use the standard dosage of a modern freshie cologne (2 sprays each on the neck, ears, chest, groin, buttocks and baseball cap) with APH, you’re going to drag around an antiseptic cloud that will give everyone a migrane. However, if you limit it to a singular spray, Azzaro is a subtle and elegant scent – simultaneously fresh and earthy, vibrant and smooth.
A fragrance for men who are not ashamed that they have chest hair.

Didn’t like this, and I love powerhouses.
After reading many reviews I’ve come to the conclusion it has been overrated due to Luca Turin’s 5 star appraisal. Many of his scores are bizarre, and this is one of them.
It is dark and interesting but truly joyless.

There’s not much else to say about this masterpiece. Yes, it’s an older style fragrance. Don’t expect for this to smell like your typical citrus or gourmand scent. Recomme
