Oh no. So very much no.
Ran out of the house before a mini-road trip to another city and forgot to perfume myself before leaving. At some point I guess I’ve become one of those people who gets anxiety if I’m not properly scented, so I stopped by the Nordstrom on my way.
This smelled so lovely on the paper strip, and it smelled okay, if a bit iris heavy, for the first few minutes on my skin, but just after I committed to a full two sprays and a sample, it turned into a synthetic vetiver bomb.
Maybe one of the worst turns I’ve had a perfume ever make on me.
Fair disclosure, my skin doesn’t like vetiver 9 times out of 10, but normally it doesn’t smell **bad**, just extremely masculine. That and bergamot. Other typically “masculine” smells go femme on me, so I consider myself lucky overall. Lavender, leather, tobacco, whiskey, oud – all good.
This vetiver wasn’t masculine, it was just nasty. Enough so that if I hadn’t smelled it on paper ahead of time, I would assume they had gotten the bottle too hot and it had gone rancid. Also, there was a heavy dose of drugstore musk. I’m thinking maybe it was the combo with the bitter orange?
Orange blossom, rose, and amber are usually amped when I warm up, so looking at Tiwalli’s extended note list, I’d have expected that. I wish that “incense” wasn’t a note in and of itself. It’s like listing “wood” or “white floral” and doesn’t mean a whole lot. There’s too many variations of incense. Is it myrhh? Is it “church” incense? Is church incense myrhh?
Anywho, it was such a vetiver overload that, if it wasn’t for the list posted in the comments and other places online, I would have convinced myself that something went terribly wrong and they shipped the wrong perfume in the bottle.
Luckily, it didn’t last very long. Maybe two hours? As soon as I got home I put on the girliest of girly girl scents I own to counter the horror.
Try before you buy. You may be like all these other lucky reviewers and it’ll be awesome. Or you could be like me and it’ll turn into a fragrance abomination.

Thank you Tiwalii for listing the correct and complete note list!
I got this beauty recently and l am absolutely sure that l smell incense!
This is absolutely beautiful on my skin. The incense is most apparent on my skin. It is rich, yet delicate and somewhat airy. All the other notes are blended really well together and go beautifully together with the incense.
Soft floral notes, powderiness of iris, creamy, sweetness and warmth from amber and vanilla.
Projection is delicate yet ever present and longevity is very good!
This is unlike any other scent in my collection and unlike anything l have smelled outside my collection.
This will be one of my favs for sure! ♥️

I bet the person just going to every fragrance and choosing Invictus as the ‘reminds me of’ thinks they’re funny…well you’re not, you’re just annoying
**edit – so now the piece of **** starts adding all the other Invictus flankers and thumbing down my comment like I care. People like you should be banned from this site, what a waste of time.

What an unfortunate synthetic overloaded mess. Gave me a headache. I am not schooled enough in the identification of the various synthetics but I know I’ve smelled this one before, just not in such a dominant fashion. For me it is all I smell from top all the way to dry down. If there is anything else there, I couldn’t tell.
My first introduction to this house and it was not good.

Tied it on a paper strip and I’m very angry with myself not to try it on my skin
Parfum de marly isn’t a popular perfume house among perfumistas here.they seem to have their own reasons but the most important thing I care about coming to perfumes,is that wether I like the scent or not.
The only one from this brand that I really love and own is safanad(among feminine ones)it never disappointed me so when I saw notes list for athalia I knew I have to try it,these are all my beloved notes
On paper, orangeblossom is the strongest note.orangeblossom is among my favorite notes if it’s done right and it’s so right here.I couldn’t detect much iris on paper but there was definitely a luxurious powdery element mingling with orange blossom when I sprayed it.white musk and amber seem to be light and bright here
It’s not a dark scent by any means, still it’s bottle matched it.this black bottle with golden cap stands as something simple, elegant, mature and formal.just like it’s soft, feminine scent
I’ll edit as soon as I try it on my skin to see wether iris comes out to me or not.no doubts in liking it,I just need to see can it convince me to pay the asked price because I think it needs something more than being gorgeous and elegant;factors like good projection and a twist in scent to give it more depth
I think it’s four season perfume but specially nice for springs.lt stayed ages on paper.more than all other perfumes I tested at the same time

It’s pretty, it’s lovely, and it’s a joy to spray on. But, something is seriously lacking here. Development? Breadth? Depth? Character? A dimension or two? I am no philosopher, so I cannot answer this. It’s enjoyable though, if you are not asking much of the perfume you are wearing.

I got this for Christmas, and I really love it. It is warm, sexy and comforting at the same time. The fragrance smells a bit expensive, not like the onedimensional cheap one. One of my favourites for sure!

This might state for women but seriously guys you should try this. I’m not the type of guy to usually consider female fragrances and find the majority of ‘unisex’ to lean more feminine but this is amazing.
It’s like the cousin of Pegasus and is easily unisex in my opinion, don’t ignore it like I did for all this time, because it’s amazing!

Really beautiful perfume. The loveliest, most unusual iris I have ever smelled. It’s very feminine and absolutely gorgeous.

This perfume has been growing on me for a year. I first tried it in the airport duty free and it stood out for its intimacy and warmth. It is a very classy , very sophisticated scent. I really enjoy wearing it. In cold weather it seemed to me much more appealing than in summer months. Strongly recommend. It’s one of my favourites – a bit more than “safe” perfumes.

All I get is flowering jasmine which is gorgeous and it smells really beautiful for that one note but the juice seems to lack a depth or complexity beyond that. It is a beautiful scent though and even as a guy, I would wear this. I have had it on my skin for a while now and it smells really authentic, not like the overhyped and overexposed florals too many perfumes go to.
If it were cheaper and had some actual projection I would buy it and layer it with green Irish Tweed by Creed and feel super fancy.
    Scent 6-7/10
    Projection 4/10
    Sillage 3/10
    Longevity 4/10
I’m starting to feel like PDM is one of the most overrated houses there is. The scents deserve praise but the performance nearly across the board for me is laughable. Creed is just as pricey sure, and it has legendarily bad longevity and sillage…but still better then most of what I get from this house.
    …Exception being Safanad.

    The correct notes:
Top – Incense, rose, bitter orange.
Heart – Iris and orange blossom.
    Base – Amber, vanilla, vetiver.

I tried to see its beauty but all I can sniff is a one-dimensional cliché.

Beautiful. Received a sample today, have reapplied several times. Love the warm, almost roasted (? can’t make sense of it quite) quality of the iris. Earthy?
Reminds me of Infusion d’Iris edp & Chanel no.5 edt, equality but for different reasons.
Having a nice first impression 🙂
    Update/Dec 11, 2016:
I am enjoying my sample,a nd might even chase down a second when I run through this one. It’s my sitting-on-the-couch-feeling-luxurious-while-I-knit perfume, and I think it would also make a good work perfume, similar in some sense to how Prada Infusion d’Iris is a great work scent. Which is sort of obvious due to the iris as common denominator.
Would save up to buy a bottle if it were 1/2 the price. That’s an issue with my wallet, not the scent 🙂
    Update to the update, 1/7/17:
Uh oh, drained my sample. Will have to get another, this is too lovely. Want shelf!

I just receive a sample of the newest product of Marley which is called Athalia. This feminine perfume opens with Orange blossom scent and then the scent of Iris appears after a while. I also can smell a blend of Musk and Amber. Both Longevity and projection is good.
