I don’t know about others, but this definitely smells better then Davidoff Cool Water IMO. It smells great when drying down and it lasts at least 6-8 hour on my skin! For the price it’s an awesome cologne! A must try guys. It was a blind buy though…and I don’t regret it. I have this on for almost 10 hours and I can still smell it.

This smell very synthetically to me. Reminds me some kind of insect repellent.

I got compliments on this without thinking of getting any. Based on experience the chances of getting most compliments on this one is during the first 5mins. of wearing the juice. This i can attribute with the fact that aspen has that very familiar, manly, crowd pleasing, classic projection.. All these instances occur while i was walking towards the people who gave their compliments it might also happen if the person who might give you compliments is someone who is very comfortable with your personality..
I guess the reason it doesnt work for me after the 5 mins. timeframe is because as ive mentioned above and most of us know the cologne has a very familiar smell that when someone catches a whiff of it will register to them as something that they have smelled before or would just say to themselves that this guy is wearing CW. Etc. They will like it but most of the times they will just keep the comments to themselves
A very good cologne to smell when you want to uplift your mood, the aromatic green vibe will want you to wear this during spring while taking a rest from a long walk in the mountains, standing in the shade of a hut while observing the beauty of a rain forest during the rainy season or just lay and fell asleep in the grass of early morning breeze of summer.
I will always chose this one over its contemporaries on its price range, this is something i wouldn’t want to smell in me throught the day but because of its calming effect i would love to smell this on different instances on a given day

Manly….check, fresh….check, longevity….hmmmm, Well I didn’t need it to be. It worked for exactly why I had it. A quick blind reach for a freshy to run errands that would be gone when I needed to rock the beastmode frags for an evening on the town. Great scent.

Smells really uncannily similar to Davidoff Cool Water, except it’s more green. There is no pine or fir note; it’s a pleasant green fougiere aroma. Sillage is moderate but leaning weak, as is longevity. It has a powdery accord that smells kind of dated; like an 80’s cologne. It smells very synthetic – but in a pleasant way. I think having this and Cool Water together is a redundant purchase as they both smell very similar (but Cool Water has more aquatic notes and is a bit more complex). But since this is so cheap it’s probably worth getting as a sort of extension to your Cool Water supply. I do think that Cool Water is better to my nose however, due to its more aromatic opening and drydown (with the citrus and lavender notes). Overall I like it, and really enjoy the pretty sophisticated looking green glass bottle as well, but it’s not as good as Cool Water at all (though smelling similar initially, Cool Water has a way more complex and less powdery dry-down). It was so similar to Cool Water that I ended up giving it to my dad. I just smelled both side by side on both arms (Aspen vs. Cool Water) and to my nose, Cool Water is far superior. It smells more lively with an aquatic calone note and more pronounced citrus, as well as a noticeable mint note. Aspen is greener but less intense in sillage and more powdery. However I do have to admit I really enjoy the drydown of Aspen. It’s very green and pleasant (but with less sillage and projection than Cool Water).
    4/5

One of the safest clean scents. Definitely smells like Davidoff Coolwater on the initial spray with Davidoff being sharp and watery while Aspen being soft and green. On the dry down though, Davidoff retains that sharp, earthy and aquatic vibe to it while Aspen transformed into a mixture of green, coconut-y and somewhat flowery vibe. When I get my nose close to my skin on the dry down, i get a little smell that reminds me of Johnson’s Baby Oil lol. Does not smell that on the air though.
    Overall:
Scent: 8/10 (safe and clean scent good for summer and spring)
Projection: 7/10 (projects above average on high heat)
Longevity: 8/10 (7 hours maximum on my skin)
Age group: anyonee can pull this off
    Price: Bang for the buck

A great room spray or new fragrance enthusiast buy.
You get a green, bright, and good smelling synthetic.
Recommended for a fresh clothes spray too.
If you want a 3 hour, cheap, Green Irish Tweed then this is it.
    Try Tres Nuit too.

In high school, I wore Drakkar Noir religiously for years. One day I smelled a cologne that just blew my mind. Like another reviewer said, it smelled like a forest after a rain. I was obsessed with finding out what the scent was. After a lot of searching, I figured out it was Aspen. I wore this religiously in the 90s through college and I wasn’t hurting for dates. I would just do one spray, arm held out from my body. I wore this until I got my first bottle of Green Irish Tweed. GIT is obviously way better, but way more expensive.
I don’t know about reformulations or synthetic smells. It seems like I paid more for Aspen in the 90s than it is selling for today. I didn’t really know much about frags back in those days. I didn’t have a collection, just the one bottle of Aspen. I liked the clean, green smell. If it smelled too synthetic I wouldn’t have liked it and worn it so much. I thought it just smelled awesome. Maybe it got reformulated and cheapened, idk, but I was in love with Aspen once upon a time.

I do like this one for it’s uniqueness. Theresa top note. I don’t know which one. That I’m not liking so much. Once the perfume settles it’s pleasant. Earthy. Ill wear it again.

This fragrance smells exactly how it looks. It is the epitome of a green cologne. It’s fresh and piney and green. Great smell for the price and a true classic. Not much to say about it except it’s green. Decent smell but CoolWater is better.

Actually great. Great smell. $8 for 4oz/125ml.
I call that a Bargain. The best I ever had.

This is still the best cheapie on the market today. Fresh, green, clean & masculine. Is it GIT? No, but does it give you the same feeling once applied? Absolutely. One of Coty’s Greatest creations… Don’t let the low price fool you. It gets great compliments, it’s ridiculously inexpensive, and you’ll smell like a Sexy Viking while wearing it!

I honestly find it to be more aquatic than cool water. Suitable for use year-round, and you will never offend anybody and with this, it’s incredibly fresh and clean. I have both of this and cool water and I definitely wear this more. For less than the price of meal for 4 oz, what more can you ask for?
    8/10 for me

  15. :

I blind bought this from the reviews, its OK, but no way as good as cool water, it smells clean and possibly better than the price tag suggests, but by the reviews the percentage is raised from nostalgia rather than the actual quality.
I am from the UK so I had not come across this before and so I can only judge it from smelling it for the first time and like I said its nice enough but will not be a further purchase for me.

An inexpensive gem. A former boyfriend of mine wore this and he smelled fantastic. He was an outdoorsy type so it suited him. Don’t judge it on the initial blast – it’s quite strong and needs some time to settle on the skin. It’s very dry, green, and crisp with a musky drydown. The bottle is pretty elegant for the price.
Don’t think I’d want to smell it on another guy, though, because it would remind me of him. 😉

Another cheapie but goodie that is still one of my go to dumb reaches when I want something that will be pleasant for daily wear but don’t want to use 1 of my more expensive colognes.
Don’t let the price fool you as this is a great fragrance for the price ! To describe this scent I’d say this is a green, freshie that has that fresh laundry smell but out of those type of scents this is 1 of my favorites for sure. It also has a real outdoorsy smell as well.
Not all of my colognes get compliments but actually this has gotten me a few but usually these type of scents work well on me. I used to wear this a lot when I worked in a factory and I got noticed multiple times in a positive way wearing this cologne.
Performance on this is above average in the longevity category as it lasts 5-8 hours and has decent projection but nothing too extreme that will offend.
Overall rating — 7.5 out of 10 ! Above average but loses points due to originality

It’s awesome in the beginning and quite chemical in drydown but definitely in a antiseptic ,neat, detergent way. A company comforting fragrance.

Oh my, this stuff brings back the memories, it was the cologne a lot of guys wore in high-school. For it to be as inexpensive as it is, it is a great cologne, but I can’t force myself to wear it. If you like Cool Water, this is a great one to look at.

Coniferous forest after the rain. The air is fresh, clean, fragrant and green. A breeze of nature at your home. That’s exactly what Aspen works for me. Tones of lavender, citrus, and fresh flowers. This unobtrusive and very pleasant scent should not be missed in any men’s bathroom. Longevity is rather average, but it surpasses many renowned and more expensive toilet waters. And maybe because it’s been a long time on the market, the price is great. So if you are not supportive of the extremely heavy and sweet oriental scents, do not hesitate, it’s worth a try at least.

Aspen for Men by Coty is more than two decades of nostalgia in a bottle. Which comes at a gorgeous price tag. And the bottle does justice to its juice: it’s a scent that’s green and comforting.
Recently I purchased this fragrance for myself, along with two other fragrances (which will be given as gifts). I had never owned this fragrance in my life until now, but somehow it brings back a huge part of the past. Maybe someone from my childhood owned it. One of my brothers, or both. Or some of my sister’s male friends. I don’t know. But it’s very familiar, and I’m certain that I’d personally seen this bottle before. Maybe it was a staple for almost everyone way back.

The scent is pretty good, imo it’s better and more interesting than cool water’s, Abysmal performance though, can’t really complain since it’s such a cheapie

I blind bought this to fill out hub’s growing wardrobe with some cheapies that he can spray like crazy. He’s barely even tried this, I don’t think. But I think it’s quite lovely. Underrated and more sophisticated than one might think.
Hopefully when his CK Eternity and Truth get low, he’ll give this a good try. If not, we might pass it on, but I think it’s certainly worthy of a refined gentleman!
I wore it for the review.

This is my most bought cologne ever since I started appreciating colognes and perfumes. As a 90s student who can’t afford Cool Water, CK colognes or Polo Sports and wants to shy away from usual cheapies back on the day, this was the best choice I had. Smells like Cool Water with great sillage and longevity. The scent lingers on clothes even when they are already on the bin. Atleast the bottles I bought compared to the current ones on sale. Now that I am already a working 30s man, I still keep a bottle as segue to my other perfumes. And all are still cheapies! Haha.. Aspen and Milton Lloyds are a cheapskate’s friends.

My old buddy cologne. I have used this for decades. I always carry a bottle in my gym bag. After a long soothing shower after a long workout, that’s what i want to wear. A fresh green and pine scent. Last long on skin, and projects reasonably well. You can’t go wrong with this one. It smell like Cool Water, which i also always have around, but i prefer Aspen over CW.

Quite possibly the best value in men’s cologne today. For under $10 you can get a 4oz bottle of this magnificent juice. It often gets compared to GIT and Cool Water, and all 3 do have similarities. But each goes in their own direction and has their own personality, if you will. Aspen and GIT is more greener, while CW is more ‘blue’ with aquatic notes. Aspen is not piney like you might think because of the pine/spruce tree graphic on the bottle. It’s more of a mountain fresh air kind of smell – clean, cool, airy, woodsy and just AMAZING! It has to be one of the most versatile fragrances in my collection because it shines in all seasons and can be worn for just about any occasion — casual, suit, date, formal, etc. Although there are better choices for each of those occasions, Aspen is not going to be out of place for any of them. It’s excellent whether it be a cold winter night, warm summer afternoon, rainy day in the spring, or a breezy autumn day. As for me, it will remain a stable in my spring rotation for two reasons, First, I prefer to rotate my fragrances by the season. Second, Aspen just reminds me of a New England spring season when the snow is melting, and that fresh crisp air is most noticeable. Aspen’s performance is much better than you would expect for a $10 fragrance with a solid 4 to 5 hours on the skin, and easily all day on clothing. It’s definitely a man’s cologne with its outdoorsy, rugged, woody kind of vibe. It’s not as synthetic as some of these reviews make it out to be. Although it’s not exactly all natural either. I think most people that are not fragheads would have a hard time telling the difference between Aspen, GIT and CW… but they are all different to me, and worth having in my collection. However if I was to chose 1 of the 3, it would be GIT because it is more natural and the performance is obviously better. But Aspen is a very close 2nd. However, when it comes to value it’s no contest… Aspen easily wins. For under $10 it should be in every serious collector’s wardrobe.

Just between Davidoff Cool water and GIT by Creed this scent is a beautiful safe gentleman fragrance and definitely an excellent quality price ratio even if performance is not the most impressive.

This is a shell of its former self. I recently purchased a bottle to use as a gym scent and something I can toss in my truck for emergencies. I do have a history with this; It was one of the first colognes I wore as a teenager. I used to love it. Of course, Coty had to F it all up just like they do with everything else. Want to know what it smells like now? Smell any “mountain fresh” laundry detergent or drier sheets. That’s exactly what Aspen is now. It’s the definition of synthetic. I’ll use it as an air freshener now, since that’s basically what it is. I’d generally recommend this to a teenager or someone looking for cheapies, but you can skip this now. Spend an extra $5 and get something much better.

I just finished an old bottle of this juice. This always was a nice scent for it’s day, and still good now. I wore a few bottles of this, smelled good, a bit synthetic but relatively safe. I smelled it again today after smelling Creed GIT, I can definitely smell the resemblance, kinda bums me out on Creed as well. I’ll probably pick up another bottle of this again, it’s definitely worth it’s asking price.

When I first “got into” perfumery, I immediately hit up every single store in my immediate area. This was one of my earlier grabs. I honestly feel everyone should smell this at least once. Simple, green, and soapy; it’s a hit with women, and is very much a “power” scent, for a ridiculously small amount of dime. Are there better scents out there? Of course! But at this price, there aren’t many that can beat it.

  35. :

Yes this one here resembles cool water but there is also a soapy laundry synthetic touch that annoys me while wearing it…. I dont like Cool water as well but i never got a headache or a bad vibe when someone is wearing it and i bought it just for a comparison but this blind buy is the first cologne i regret buying thank-god its worth only 9$….

Aspen is, unashamedly, one of my absolute favorite fragrances of all time.
It’s a very clean, easy to wear, inoffensive, and long lasting fragrance. It smells exactly the same as it smelled the first time I smelled it; when a classmate accidentally spilled almost an entire splash bottle on the floor of my 8th grade science classroom. A couple girls cringed and a few expressed how much they liked Aspen, but the scent memory remains.
Almost 20 years went by between that first experience and when I actually bought a bottle for myself, and it still smells the same. I also regret having let so much time go by between then and about a year ago when I finally bought a bottle for myself. I can’t get over how great a fragrance Aspen is.
The notes seem extremely well blended, especially for a fragrance made by Coty; maybe the difference between Aspen and fragrances Coty has reformu-hacked is that Coty developed Aspen and didn’t just buy out a failing reform frag or a failing house who’s cheapened everything in an attempt to keep in the black.
As far as notes go it starts out green and citrusy with herbal lavender in the background. As it dries down the cedar, juniper/fir, and a bit of earthy moss and a touch of soapy musk become more prominent. After about 4-6 hours most of the original green has faded and the lavender and citrus have all but disappeared and it stays a wonderful coniferous soapy musk with a bit of moss for the next 4-6 hours becoming more of a skin scent toward the end of this period. It keeps going as a skin scent much longer than the 8-12 hour mark depending on how warm (and sweaty) you get.
You want to talk about value for your money? Bang for your buck? Look no further because Aspen has you covered. Not only does it smell amazing, and last a long time, but a 4.2 oz bottle can easily be had for less than $10.
Also my wife loves it, so that’s a huge plus in my book.
I haven’t unintentionally left out the comparisons to Davidoff Cool Water; although there are some aspects that bear some resemblance to Cool Water, there is nothing aquatic about Aspen. That and I, personally, like Aspen exponentially more than Cool Water.

This is somewhat a mild version of Green Irish Tweed by Creed. I also smell a bit of Calvin Klein Eternity and Estee Lauder Pleasures in this. Except the staying power is not very long-lasting. Other than that, very good stuff!!! One of my favs..

Aspen is a wonderful cologne and I’ve worn it long before I ever heard of or smelled GIT. To be honest, I prefer Aspen to GIT and and after 25yrs I still catch myself smelling my wrist when I wear it. Personally I believe Aspen should be in everyones collection and for the price (around $8 for 4oz) it really is a no-brainer.

I smelled the talcum powder on a friend and was blown away instantly. Tried the perfume, good, nothing mind-blowing. Pretty good is all. This one projects well. And if they ever decide to make an EDP of the same formulation, improving on the sillage and longevity, God help GIT.

Not reading any reviews so I do not get influenced. I bought this a while ago for my son. He never wore it, so I reclaimed it, and thought it the bottle smelled good enough to wear as a woman’s frag. Well, it’s definitely for men, imho.
Initial application ~ Acidy lime and herbal.
Lime note is constant and going more herbal.
Lime is disappearing passing by Chanel 5-ish scent, as if a woman just breezed by, but never quite getting there
Few florals I cannot make out, lime is constant but mellowing, but definitely herbal, green, lightly sagey, sweeter on the outer wrist than the inner wrist.
15 minutes later~ at this point rounding out nicely to a mellow lime with herbs, almost like Earl Grey with a smidgen of soap not bad.
I can’t consider this a floral at all. It’s a clean scent, pleasant. True aftershave scent. No staying power though.
Yeah, I can say it smells cheap.
    I guess that’s why he didn’t wear it……lol
Faded out in 30 minutes, stays close to the skin at this point.

Smells like cheap cologne from middle school. Does not smell “green’ to me… When I think green, I think Cerruti 1881 or Paco Rabanne PH.
    This smells synthetic and cheap.
Gave to my stepson ( 12 years old).
It smells good on him but i hate smelling it on myself.
Just revisited this a year later and I still dont like it. But thr heart does smell like GIT!!!
Theres a cologne called Swiss Alpine that is very similar to this as well

This afternoon, my brother presented me with a 50 ml. bottle of this cologne, which I wasn’t expecting…and it smells really nice!
Aspen is an all-year round fragrance that can be used for most casual occasions (i.e. going out with friends, BBQs, going shopping, etc.), when you don’t need to impress anyone. It’s mostly suitable for warmer weather, especially during the daytime; as for the similarity with Cool Water, I don’t think it’s exactly the same, but maybe the current formula of Davidoff’s scent is. Longevity and projection are low, but, for the price, it’s a pretty nice choice. It’s never offensive, and it would be a waste to use it at a dinner or for dating.
To conclude, Aspen is a very nice, inexpensive cologne–a safe buy for those who are perfume amateurs and don’t want to make a big statement, or cause an impression. It’s been a nice Christmas present.

Smells like weaker version of precious not reformulated Cool Water by Davidoff. After 1 hour it smells like Indian spicey. A little bit bitter. Not a good fragrance for the dry down.
Or maybe the one I have is not original. Saw it selling real cheap and not sure whether is it original. But I just grap it since I cant find it anywhere.

Thoroughly masculine, though wearable by women, too. Pine-y, though I’m not sure if there’s any pine in it, and one of the most creatively advertised fragrances I can recall.

This is really pretty decent, and a steal at the price. I’m a woman and wanted something clean, green, and fresh for very hot summer days, (and i hate aquatics) and this should fill the bill nicely. It does not smell cheap, is reasonably complex, enough to keep it interesting and to have some development. It probably contains just enough naturals to give it this complex non chemical feel. It is not groundbreaking or innovative, but there will be a use for it in my large fragrance collection.

  51. :

Coty Aspen is a green smell alike of Cool Water. It’s one of the cheapest scents in regards to price and cost per ounce. For the typical 4oz/125ml bottle of this fragrance, you can find it online for about $2.00USD/oz from eBay and Amazon. DO NOT buy this in stores. You’ll easily pay double if not triple the price. It’s not like other scents where you can get it for a dollar or two cheaper, this is a huge difference between online and brick and mortar.
Coty Aspen is one of the more versatile scents in comparison to the Cool Water style scents. I find this is because of the more green, mountain-man smell that comes with Aspen rather than Cool Water and its many similar aquatics with sea water or aquatic-like notes. This make the scent mostly unique to this style scent which is common today, a great thing since most just copy that and not try to be something different. To me, this and the cost are the fragrance’s real pluses of Aspen. The scent also lasts about a day of work as well.
The good comes with the bad though. For one, the scent while lingering as a skin scent through a work day don’t really project. At best, you get about an hour of projection off one spray. Secondly, it smells far more synthetic than anything I’ve smelt and I don’t typically have that nose. In all honesty, this was the first one I noticed it was synthetic. This includes various clones I’ve bought in Dollar Tree, Big Lots and Walmart. Does that make it bad, no but it isn’t a good thing.
Overall Aspen is one of the better non-clones in a drug store. I still wouldn’t pay drug store prices of $25USD for it because honestly, it is a ripoff especially when you can easily find it on eBay and Amazon for under $10USD. Overall I give Aspen a 7 out of 10 because it is unique enough since it is cool water minus the water and tobacco notes and it does last a workday but it doesn’t project and even an unknowing nose can detect the synthetic scent from it.

  52. :

    3 out of 5

I agree with those who say it smells most similar to original Irish Spring soap. I don’t get the GIT references, this is not nearly as “fresh” or well composed as GIT. If I get close to my skin to smell, it is quite strong and synthetic, which is what I would expect from a 90’s aromatic fougere fragrance. If you want to smell like greens and clean linens (fir/citrus/lavender blend), this is a good bargain fragrance, but I don’t really enjoy the smell on my skin all day. I blind bought a big bottle for $6 it and use it sparingly as a air/linen freshener.
TL;DR: Oh, why not try it?

Aspen by Coty has a reputation as being the “cheap” alternative to Davidoff Cool Water. I’m not going to get into a discussion about which fragrance is the dupe for which and how similar they are. This is a review for the fragrance I experienced on a boyfriend of mine from a couple of years ago. He loved this scent. He was an NYPD cop and he thought this fragrance was refreshing, summery, cool and casual. He wore it every day at work and acquired a matching aftershave. He would kiss me before he went off to work and this scent always brought me pleasure.
I don’t see this scent as being like Cool Water. Cool Water smells like a man’s ritual in the bathroom first thing in the morning. He showers, he puts on soap, he lathers, he steps out of the shower, he wraps a towel around his waist while shaving his facial hair and puts on an aftershave. The Cool Water cologne is easy on the nose, aquatic, and very fresh and like an extension of an aftershave, so he spritzes on some Cool Water and puts on clothes. That’s what Cool Water has always been like for me.
Aspen by Coty is a trip to Aspen Colorado. It’s the moment of arrival on a cool winter’s morning. The mountain air is frigid but energizing. It’s like being on the top of a mountain slope when you go skiing. Whereas Cool Water is an every day fresh aquatic after-shower scent, Aspen is a sports cologne to wear while skiing! Maybe I’m exaggerating. At least it could be a cologne for a guy to wear while traveling or while on a vacation. It smells like a mountain, like a ski resort. It’s outdoorsy, a nature scent, green in color and tone, fresh, somewhat floral, somewhat woodsy, mossy, a fir tree scent, balsamic, aromatic and superb.
This isn’t aquatic. It’s oxygen. The first spritz of Aspen is a fresh citrus, not sparkling but coldly sharp and very in your face with the pairing of citrus fruits: bergamot orange and lemon. The green galbanum, my all time favorite note, appears and creates an outdoorsy natural forest smell. It’s galbanum alright. It’s also nocturnal, like being alone on that mountain, when the moon is out, and the scent of fir trees, pines, oak trees and moss is perfuming the air around you. It’s a wilderness scent, aromatic, and woodsy.
But it isn’t all woodsy. Aspen has a floral side. Your nose will detect some sweeter notes of juniper berry embracing flowery scents of orange blossom, lavender and geranium. Orange blossom is a note I’ve enjoyed in many women’s perfumes. I wish the orange blossom was heavier but it seems to be there at the very end of the trail of citrus. The heart is mostly floral with lavender, a pastoral lavender which comes off as unisex/masculine, aromatic, spicy and like a fougere’s lavender top note. The lavender is also mixed with geranium, which to me has always smelled like a more masculine rose. This fragrance is more floral than Cool Water and nothing like an aquatic floral at all. It’s a chypre. This is a man’s chypre fragrance of citrus, flowers and woods.
The wooden notes are redolent with cedar wood, oak moss, the same moss that hangs from trees and perfume the night air. There is no musk but there is a balsamic note which can almost pass for something like musk. It’s dark green like actual green moss which grows all over trees even right on the bark. In the depths of the woods and moss is an amber, a straight gooey clean amber like amber from a tree, sitting there and collecting the aroma of the tree. The dry down is especially masculine, resinous and dark. The cool freshness of the opening is long gone and it’s like you’ve spent a whole day in the mountains, the skiing is over and you retire to bed, your nose still able to smell the trees.
Aspen is a very affordable fragrance, not cheap. The note are perfectly harmonic with one another, and this fragrance was created as a labor of love. Coty is my favorite fragrance line, even after years of experiencing so many countless lines. Coty is always a winner. This is a fragrance I love to smell on men as much as I like Cool Water. I don’t know if guys layer fragrances but I’m sure this scent would be welcome when layered with Cool Water. This is more masculine and outdoorsy than Cool Water, it’s not mind blowing but as a green scented chypre this is a masterpiece.

synthetic pine sweetness mess. bought it years ago, couldn’t stand it for how cheap and chemically it smelled- a time when i really liked old spice, even had some addidas and axe scents. I’ve smelled GIT since then.. no simalrity to me. I don’t understand.. is it that they both have one or two ingredients in common? it’s like comparing lemon pledge to fresh lemon.
