Have you ever smelled something that was so profoundly offensive that it immediately made you angry?
Fragonard’s Arielle has this affect on me. It smells like the urine of a wino suffering from renal failure.
A longtime wearer of Amarige de Givenchy, the comparisons here 100% elude and baffle me as the two smell literally nothing alike to my nose, at all.
On the other hand, it does remind me strongly of Gale Hayman’s Delicious Feelings, but that isn’t good. I loathe them both with every fiber of my being.
I re-homed my bottle to someone who will hopefully be capable of appreciating this one since I can’t. My experience was so horrific, in fact, that it may be years if I ever brave another Fragonard production, this one served as a powerful deterrent, to my unfortunate surprise. Who knows? Had this been the first perfume I ever smelled, could I have been dissuaded from the rest of the beautiful experiences available? (pearl-clutching moment of horror).
Seriously, I wish that I had beautiful praise but cannot find any reason to offer any.
Apologies to all for the brutality of my version of ‘truth’ regarding Fragonard’s (apparently polarizing) Arielle.

I just got this one in. Did I get a bad (old/rancid) bottle? I don’t like it at all. It smells like Febreeze to me! Yuck

I also picked upFragonard Arielle for super cheap on eBay – and this beauty is a classic! I’ve always wanted to try something from the house of Fragonard, and this one is truly gorgeous! Full of peach, fruity and floral notes – it also has a deep side, amber and sandalwood. The dry down is THE BEST. This is blended to perfection. I’m super-impressed with the composition! Highly recommend this super-affordable for $11.99 for 1oz to try it on eBay.

very nice, a rich opulent sent. The first blast is all about peach or apricot, very fruity, but not for the faint of heart. It reminds me of No Regrets by de Markoff. After about 30min. it becomes much softer, the fruits set back and let the amber take center stage. This a very smooth and lucious scent with amber and fruits and flowers peeking in and out the whole time. It seems creamy and smooth during the dry down as well. So pretty and a little sexy too. It lasts about 4 or 5 hours which is pretty good. The price? that’s the best part, it is very affordable. Even though a warm scent I think because it is so smooth it could work for summer and early fall.

I have been on a tour of New Zealand, travelling by bus and staying in the low budget “backpacker hotels” in abundance in this beautiful land. Out of courtesy to my fellow travelers, I have been scenting myself only minimally. So glad that I waited until I was lodging alone again to don this potent potion from Fragonard. Somehow the name, Arielle, connoted someting clean and flowery to my mind. Instead, I find that the scent is not unlike Bal a Versailles!
Others have compared this perfume to Amarige, but Arielle is much less sweet and rather animalic, so I respectfully disagree. I should clarify, however, that my samples came from a fellow fragrance traveller and so may be vintage or old (whichever of those terms you prefer…)

so now arielle has been added to fragrantica… i wrote a review for kenzo’s elephant and that time i thought arielle was its little sister. but now i find it might be its offspring, the other parent being amarige. “the latter had a stronger genetic impact here”, my nose says, “which is most discernable in its dusty quality”.
nice smell – both meanings intended!

Wanting to have the vintage Arielle, I purchased a small, 30ml bottle and my expectations were fulfilled.
The burst of apricot illuminated the room like high orange fireworks. Almost immediately I could smell the ambery note that I expected to be in the drydown. Amazingly, the flowers entered the stage at the end, spinning around the amber.
For me this is a warm, uplifting scent. Wonderful!

Oh I had forgotten all about this wonderful sexy fragrance. It was kind of strong. I bought many bottles and gave as gifts.
