Description

The house of Montale is announcing two brand new editions that will appear soon on the market. The belong to oud-agar inspired fragrances, since oud is the key ingredient of both composition. Names of the new fragrances are Aoud Melody and Aoud Orange and they will be available in characteristic flacons made of metal, in caramel shade.

Montale Aoud Orange opens with a blend of bergamot, oud and saffron, followed by patchouli in a combination with floral notes of violet and rose petals with accentuated chypre shades. Base notes are enhanced with a warm and sensual union of sandalwood, oak moss, leather and white musk.

The fragrances will be available as 100ml Eau de Parfum starting from spring 2014.
The nose behind this fragrance is Pierre Montale.

There is nothing in common with an orange, as the name suggests. But that is a really lovely juice for active day. It has some inspiring power and calming effect throughout projection. I think wood and violet does the best job here and yet this is my favorite montale so ever. I hardly find rose here, but as well that is advantage for me.

Absolutely AMAZING. What I love about Montale is their way of going and giving us new fragrances and these are long lasting suckers……..I mean 12 plus hours, this particular fragrance is addicting , at least to me it is. WOW, compliments , very nice…love it !

@carter0012 I agree completely! This is in no way an oud-forward fragrance; frankly, I don’t get any at all! This is a nice citric-spicy-vanillic fragrance that smells like a higher-end, soapy version of Bvlgari’s Aqva Amara without the bitterness, and with a slightly less forward Orange and more prounounced vanillic creaminess in the base. A nice fragrance, but not worth the price IMO. Don’t really get leather or suede either. And definitely no Oud here!!!

Got to be perfectly honest here… I don’t agree at all to the note pyramid..
It opens up with Saffron, then into a note of soft brown Suede… That’s it, I don’t smell any of the citrus at all, at any point. I get hints of rose through out, and a very very very subtle wood / oud in the dry down, it’s by no means an Oud heavy fragrance. It’s all Suede.. Average in Longevity and projection, around 6 hours on skin 1 hour projection.
Soft brown suede is the main note in the whole life essentially, I barely preserve any kind of Oud. Personally would recommend trying out Memo French Leather, Davidoff Leather Blend or Imaginary Authors Slow Explosions, before purchasing this one.

I thought the name was misleading since I was expecting a blast of citrus-fruity orange, but it wasn’t–it was much better! I smell incense (though not listed) along with the leather, but not the dark kind, instead very bright and cheerful; it’s not too sweet and not too warm, yet contains both. This is one of my favorite ouds from Montale along with Aoud Damascus & Spicy Aoud!
*The “orange” here must be the aura (as shown in the ad with orange colored smoke and crystals)–like White/Red/Black Aoud–as opposed to the fruit.

To me this is similar to a classic leather chypre with a (big) oud twist. It is completely unisex, and as to sillage less bombastic than White aoud. I find it really elegant and suitable for work occasions. It can be worn in warmer days (though I would not dare to wear it in the middle of summer).
I bought the 20 ml bottle, but I see now I wouldn’t have regretted a 100 ml one.

I finally chose this one,and yeah it is a beauty.high quality scent and a lot of compliments from women. this is a citrus scent with spices.this is summer day and I can detect the dry down vibe of Declaration from Cartier in it.8/10 for me. Long lasting parfum.

I can’t stop smelling my wrist, this smells so sexy and delicious to me. Must get a large bottle soon! I smell leather too because I was wearing vintage Chanel Cuir de Russie earlier today and that one leaves just a trail of leather after several hours. What a wunderbar mix!!

This is so wonderful!! My favourite is red Aoud and orange Aoud is a perfect take on unmistakable oud with orange twist…It seems like it can be summer/fall friendly. I will wear this for a day here soon to see how longevity and sillage are but smell wise – as an oud lover – I am in love

leather definitely plays the first fiddle, then it turns into suede. but not a creamy, soft one,, rather masculine with moss notes. and finally, with all this stuff n the background, comes sth floral…

It’s an attractive fragrance. Masculine and seductive. When the orange disappears I smell the leather and it has that warm, waxy scent of car seats, a luxurious one at least.
It’s quite strong, sillage is incredible. But I’m not sure if I like it that much. This is the type of fragrance that if oversprayed will give instant headaches, yet still, I can’t stop smelling my wrist.I think it should be named Aoud Leather, the citrus evaporates quite quickly (which is fine because it doesn’t bring much to the whole composition).
Get a sample first. A risky blind buy in my opinion.

No orange in the beginning. That comes later. In the beginning, however, all I get is suede and saffron. Lots of suede. This is what I wanted Keiko Mecheri’s Cuir Cordoba and Tom Ford’s White Suede to be. The Mecheri was nauseatingly, even suffocatingly sweet, and the TF was too dainty and faint. Aoud Orange is less refined than either of those. It’s rougher and simpler, maybe even a bit clumsy. But I like it. Mercifully, it only gestures toward sweet, never committing to it. This is surprisingly restrained for a Montale, enjoyably so. It conjures an image of someone who wakes up on the floor in the waning hours of a fancy party, dusts himself/herself off with an air of calm, and confidently exits the room as if nothing undignified has happened. And it kind of smells like that person at that party — dusty, from the floor, and suede-y and slightly boozy, like a long dried Campari-and-orange spilled on a brushed suede jacket. The bergamot kicks in after around 45 minutes and balances very nicely with the dusty leather. This may go on my buy list.
update: Bought it. Really like it.

I just received a sample with my Montale order. I agree with one of the other reviewers. This aoud is one of the first that I think smells nice. And it’s the first I can see myself wearing.

Just received a sample from Montale. Very pleasent oud. Like others I mostly get a lovely combination of rose, violet and leather. When I ordered perfumes from Montale I looked past ALL the oud perfumes. I have had not so good experiences with those. Most of them smell like old fashioned window cleaners on me. But certainly not this one. I can see myself buying a full size bottle.
