I feel incredibly lucky to have spotted this on EBay last year, and as I now know, just how rare this one is.
I was really new to Mugler’s numerous flankers but as soon as I saw it, I was in love! The bottle itself is just stunning and the beautiful purple colour is probably just as vivid as it was in 2003.
Personally, it doesn’t smell any different than the EDP Angel but perhaps I’m just nose-blind?
I was looking for something to commemorate one of my children’s birthdays, and it also happens to be her favourite colour too. Totally worth it, and it makes this fabulous Star ever more special because of it.

Smells like the original Angel mixed with Muglers Pure Havane. Seriously. My husband has worn Pure Havane befor while I was wearing vintage Angel EDP. We got in the car together and the combination of both our fragrances smelled as if we had just sprayed this! lol
It’s certainly not a negative thing. Just a observation and hopefully a helpful description for people wanting to seek it out for a sniff. It’s not cheap! I paid a pretty penny for a small decant. So, if you don’t like the original Angel or Pure Havane it’s my opinion that you’re probably not going to find “your Angel” in this one. If you do like those two, this is definitely worth seeking out! It’s the best of both worlds.

First off, I confess that I’m not a big fan of the original Angel EDP. It’s a fragrance that I love to smell on others, but find overwhelming on my own skin. So, I set out to add one of the extrait editions to my collection. My experience has been that extraits are much gentler and closer to the skin, and that makes challenging fragrances more wearable to me.
And Etoile Mystique is certainly more wearable. At first I wasn’t convinced that it was really an extrait, it seemed a bit TOO gentle and close to the skin. Or maybe my bottle had simply been stored improperly and the fragrance inside had degraded. A disappointing risk you take when dealing in vintage and discontinued fragrances (it was bottled in ’03 after all…)
But, after a few minutes on the skin, the fragrance started to develop and all of the lovely gourmand notes listed in the description are there. It really is quite boozy. And I find the cherry note to be very prominent. The patchouli note from original Angel only shows up late into the drydown, almost as an afterthought. The amber tones down the foody notes a bit and places it in the Oriental category. It’s smooth and rich and sweet and intoxicating.
Lasting power is good, sillage is low. This isn’t a room filler. It’s a fragrance that carries close to your body all day, like a cashmere scarf. Very typical of an extrait.
The bottle is exquisite. A massive chunk of purple glass with a metal stopper that’s all points, angles, and simplistic design. No bling or extra foolishness here. A beautiful display piece.

Mugler addict here. After reading reviews on Angel Etoile Mystique (Mystic Star) and decided that i absolutely have to have it. As we all know, these are numbered and rare, therefore very expensive when you happen to find one.
I received my Mystic Star two days ago. I am disappointed. For multitude of reasons. One of them being Fragrantica reviews, which made me shed pretty penny for numerous Mugler fragrances, which turned out to be carbon copy of a fragrances that i already own. Only exception to this is a Garden of Stars collections-this collection is heavenly!
So now i own big number of angels, and maybe with exception of Angel taste of fragrance which smells like purest dark chocolate, they all smell exactly the same! Yes we can pretend that they don’t, by writing reviews on notes that we think we can detect in one, but not another. But we all know it isn’t true, because most Angels smell the same. Mystic Star as well. Is it an extract? I am not sure. It lasted a good day on me, but so does a regular Angel EDP.
Is there a Cherry note? A cognac note? A caramel one? I don’t know. It smells exactly like Angel. I could sit here as a type and lie that this is “Oh, so special and should be brought back”, but seriously, it’s just a regular Angel in a fancy, expensive bottle, that sure looks like million bucks and makes you feel special as one of 9300 owners out there.
I am mad at myself for spending so much money on this, and i am mad at my hubby for wanting to make me happy, but i keep falling for Mugler’s shenanigans and it has to stop! And i also realized that we have to take these reviews here with a grain of salt. Before we all go bankrupt!

In a word, stunning. Etoile Mystique leaps away from the original Angel’s blast of patchouli, fruits, and – at times, on certain people – sickly-sweet aroma. Initially, Mystique opens with a beautiful and controlled vanilla that is balanced with amber, honey and very slight hints of the cognac to come. Sweet, yes, but not at all overpowering. Soon, after about two hours, the magic really begins. Mystique warms up and truly releases the satisfying cognac and caramel, along with the cherry. Absolutely incredible. This scent is rich and developed, with no single note spoiling another. It’s boozy but not “alcoholic” and intrigues with sensuality. Lasts and lasts, never spoils, and never fails to satisfy. One of my favourite interpretations of Angel. A family member owns one of these precious bottles – I’ve been guilty of dousing myself on occasion. Not once have I regretted doing so, and I don’t think I ever will.

This extract is like an angel met a siren. Smells gorgeous, but very potent, which at times is good and bad. Can be a sweet voluptuous song or the deathly shriek of a siren demigod.
