Description

Amouage introduces a new luxurious pair, Epic, by the House’s creative director Christopher Chong. This fragrant duo is inspired by the Puccini’s Turandot, and tried to embody the legend of the ancient Silk Road from China to Arabia. The female fragrance, Epic Woman, represents an endeavor run by strength and ambition, while the Epic Man is a compass on the Silk Road.

Richness of these fragrances evokes the goods that were objects of trade in Asia (gold, pearls, tea, silk, jade, spices and incense), mixed with the dramatic signature of the House.

The male fragrance Epic Man is an oriental woody one, offering you pink pepper, cardamom, saffron and nutmeg at the top. The heart pulses with essences of geranium and myrrh, while the base consists of precious Aoud, patchouli, leather and incense.

The perfumes are available as 50 and 100 ml EDP. Their bottles were designed to look like they’re made out of royal jade of the Orient, with some golden details to point out the richness of Arabia. The outer packages shines with sheer nude shades of pearl (female edition) and rustic color of brown (male edition), that reminds of ancient China leather suitcases. The nose behind these fragrances is Randa Hammami. Amouage Epic Man was launched in 2009.

Meteolord, you’re funny. You seem to have completely misunderstood my comment. I wasn’t challenging your observation that this smells similar to aramis. I was sarcastically pointing out that your bit about “so many noses and not one of them thinks it’s like aramis” was simply not factual as there is indeed another reviewer below who mentioned this, which you would have found if only you’d used the Find command (CMD+f on Mac)

I ve been collecting and testing fragrances for almost a decade now. I have grown to admire niche perfumes because most of the times are not afraid to be uncoventional and the result is rewarding.. But that is not always the case… Epic man trully isnt ordinary for sure but that doesnt mean its exceptional…unless you consider a peppery bar of soap scent to be… Not impressed amouage..

So many keys on the keyboard, but no knowledge of command+f to search for “aramis” on this page… which you’ll definitely find.

This much noses are here but not even one of them can choose how much it’s similar to aramis! Aramis + leather = Amouage epic man!!!! After half an hour aramis vibes goes back but doesn’t disappears!
Leather is dominanted and heavy so makes you get old school shoe shiners or waxes scent … I liked it
It carries Amouage DNA , Complex, dark, resiny, Smokey, oudy scent! I get artemisia easily but it is not written up between notes! It is not safe and not for blind buy!

I own full bottles of both.

How does this compare to Interlude. I have and love Interlude and if Epic Man is like Interlude it be redundant to buy it.
If anybody has Epic Man but not Interlude, I’d be happy to swap samples. US & Canada only please.

I love Amouage and Epic is one of my top from the house.
Compared to “Journey” from the same house, this one has more incense in drydown and a bit sweeter in the top and middle notes. The resins shared by both Journey and Epic are very similar, which is expected.
I personally prefer this one to Journey because it’s less sour and develops more.
Excellent projection, staying power and the way it develops is unique to Amouage.
    Signature scent worthy.

Nothing special here , this is the most boring fragrance I’ve ever smelled.

  11. :

Oud, incense, leather and wood. The oud is prominent and distinct; not quite to the point of being offensive but I can definitely tell it’s not cedar. I’m reminded of M7 Oud Absolu but bolder and without the mandarin amber or sweetness. No messing around here. Strong middle eastern vibe.
Very masculine, mature and for cooler weather. Projected strongly for the first three hours; becomes soft at hour six. EM is much more potent than Interlude Man. Not a good choice for work; formal, stuffy. I don’t think many people will find it sexy. Worlds apart from most western fragrances. People in the U.S. will probably find it weird and offensive but Epic Man is a high quality fragrance. The notes smell natural and smooth. Nice composition and excellent performance. I like this a lot but it’s not for me.

I received the 100ml bottle as part of a much larger order.
    This fragrance is fantastic….
    Really very unique and special….
The notes are an accurate assessment of how your senses perceive experiencing this fragrance.
    Mmm.
It smells alot like how the bottle looks….coincidental? Idk…..
It’s deep dark shades of green…and many shades of gold and brown …it’s cool and smooth and brilliant polished jade. It stands tall and above the rest. Literally, and in metaphor.
    Has mass.
    Weight.
    Gravity.
I really enjoy this very much.
It takes a lot to impress me…but I am very impressed.
    Verdict: Excellence

For Middle Eastrens, its a Typical spicy oud frankincense fragrance in a good way. Ingredients are very smooth and high quality. Opens green and ends woody while the oud is carried linear throughout the whole transitions. Has excellent longevity and balanced projection which makes it very elegant. For the same scent there are plenty of cheaper alternatives especially from arabian perfume houses but all in all it is an excellent fragrance.

This is my 2nd review, after I have owned and used this fragrance for about 3 years.
To me, this fragrance is the pinnacle of opulence. I love this so much, I will even take a bottle to my grave.
This is a real mans scent, that is alluring to women and make s a strong statement to the person who is wearing it. It will do the job (make you smell the best) and will last until you take a shower.
if this gets reformulated again, it won’t hurt me, as I have 6 backup bottles. Yes, that is how much I cherish this frag. I have been collecting fragrances for about 3 years now, and this one is in my top 5. If you have not encountered the experience of wearing this fantastic fragrance, you must try it.

So I caught a whiff of Epic Man at a friend’s fragrance shop and I’m interested in buying it! This is a suavely pristine woody Oriental cologne ideal for VERY SPECIAL postmeridian occasions. However, it could be worn to office. Or re-spritzed lightly for a lunch date.
    Can’t wait to order a 100ml bottle soon…

smells NOTHING LIKE that Ungaro Oud crap..nor does Epic smell like that Derby House sh*t.

  18. :

The one thing the notes don’t seem to reflect is the persistent, fresh, piney, manly, green accord that runs through the fragrance. This fragrance is mostly about an interplay between a medicinal, clean oud against this beautiful green accord. It’s therefore a nice break from the usual rose/oud creations. One of the few Amouages that has survived in my collection over the years, with so many older Amouages being victims of the disastrous reformulations that were made to allow globalisation of the brand and mass distribution (the Omani frankincense is long gone!) . If you buy Amouage, stick to the recent releases if you want the fragrance to match the original creative direction.
For an upgrade on Epic, try Kemi Blending Magic’s Hayat. It’s a rich version of Epic, but it comes at a richer price point too.

  19. :

Not for the faint of heart, but also not for the most brutal-fragrance seekers. Epic is wildly masculine while maintaining a sophisticated restraint.
Spicy with green facets, the signature Amouage resinous incense, a pungent oud, and a animalic leather. It is balanced, long lasting, and masculine.
Give it an open mind when you try it, and watch Amouage and Randa Hammami unfold the essence of sophisticated masculinity before you.

I have collected a few from the house of Amouage now; Lyric, Interlude, Jubilation and Epic. I find Epic to be by far the best and perhaps for those so inclined to rank, i would go Epic, Lyric, Interlude, Jubilation. I know i know… but Jubilation i find just to be a toned down smoother version of Epic with a dash of fruity notes thrown in. Compared to Epic, though, Jubilation lacks character and the performance leaves a lot to be desired.
Epic is bold, strong, classy and relentless in those characteristics, so much so that the incense, pink pepper and oud carry a beautiful harmony all throughout the 12+hours of this fragrance. So good is the performance, that i will put this on for work around 6am, three sprays and everyone knows you’re around, by 7pm it’s practically skin scent having gone through an entire day and a sweat at the gym. After showering you can still smell EPIC on my hand some 14-16 hours post initial spray. It’s incredible!
It is a scent for serious aficionados. There’s nothing fruity or playful here so this isn’t one for the club or compliment seekers. On that matter though, iv’e had many people compliment me wearing this however, i believe this is as a result of the unique and opulent nature of the scent.
This is THE scent i want people to associate me with and one i will keep in my collection always.
Next i will be looking for Memoir, Sunshine and Dia.

I will write just a few lines. Amouage is my favorite house. Only one of their other creations is above Epic and that is Jubilation XXV but not by far. These two fragrances are the best of the best in my collection, and I decided they will stay for the rest of my days. Life is too short and beautiful for bad perfumes.

This a lovely woody fragrance that’s not harsh or medicinal. Very smooth and smoky. Not my kind of thing but I can understand why it’s loved. Very well made!

A rather complex and multivocal perfume, where all notes are present, with a changing tonality of vibrancy over time.
The trio of leather, oud and chevron accompany the entire composition from top to base, varying only the timbre of the symphony as it unfolds.
The first act is the solo of the pink pepper, brightened by other piquant spices within the melody. While myristica fragrance is the first violin, the myrtle brings the tone into the coniferous aspect of the aroma spectrum.
As the fragrance raptures it is encased in a very delicate, bodily castoreum, combined with bitter myrrh and sweet geranium.
As the grand drapes unfold, the perfume opens a dialogue with the audience, manifesting its presence and dancing in harmony between cellar patchouli to smoked incensum.
The feelings awoken by this conversation, arouses and animates towards a symbolic drama, similar to those felt when listening to the “Blind” by Maurice Maeterlinck.
The encore introduces notes of styrax and oily sandal, which become more evident at the base with a more intimate proximity. The base itself remains subtle, leaving the audience with the feeling of an unfinished act. A performance of modern classics, close to masterpieces.

I read lots of reviews about Amouge Epic and decided it may be worth the price. This product is thoroughly disappointing all around. I bought this item from Cosmetics Now Australia on EBAY FOR around $314 including postage. Recently I bought some Surrati perfumes from Anabis and I have to say they out perform this rubbish from Amouge. Very disappointed. I know there are fake perfumes on sale but a google search shows this was the real deal. I wish it was fake so I would not feel so disappointed. Anymore wishing to buy is highly advised not to buy online but to go to a shop and actually have a smell before buying. It is not worth it.

This is one of the best in my Amouage collection with Opus VI. This perfume is a masterpiece. It’s manly, opulent, powerful and makes a statement for the person who is wearing it. I can’t get enough of this and is way up there. In my opinion, it is more of a formal scent and not for the office, unless you are heading a boardroom meeting.
It is strong, powerful & potent. Lasts until you take a shower & then some. Go easy on the sprays. Two max.

in my opinion best amouage have made ever.all things are on their place in this art.oud, incence, saffron and nutmeg are more obvious in my nose.last longing and projection are beast(+10 hours). i love it.10/10

This is literally one of the most puzzling and perplexing fragrances I’ve ever tried, I can NOT settle my mind on whether loving or hating it, at times the Oud is sweet, oriental, mystic, fantastic and manly blending with the rest of resins and incese, and at times it is such a fetid, putrid, rotten animalic mess that turns one’s stomach upside down, I have no idea what kind of sorcery was used to create such a fragrance, because it is really mind boggling

Do not be afraid of the notes.
This is certainly a sensory overload, but it is so well blended that the result is a very strong, masculine and surprisingly fresh, woody juice. The initial blast is reminiscent of pine, I guess courtesy of all the balsams. Then, the leather whiffs come and go and the smokey, bitterish presence of oud is felt. Then the balsams reassert themselves, with whiffs of incense and myrrh. Again, what makes this so fascinating is how all the notes work so harmoniously together and makes this feel so fresh. There is a risk with balsams of turning the scent too far, (like the smell of a church) and while this for me is not problematic is not the case with Epic. This probably shines best in fall and winter.
Amouage has been a very pleasant surprise for me with quality ingredients and compositions. Epic is probably in my top 3 along with Interlude and Reflection.
    Smell great my friends.

Never tried old version, but the new version is awesome IMO.
    Longevity & silage are decent.
Opening is a pleasant but doesn’t last for long.
I think oud note here is complementing leather note, not overpowering.
Also pepper exists to make incense shine.
I wish winter lasts all year to enjoy wearing that frag.

    ———————————–
One of the best perfumes of Amouage…
This perfume is majestic! At the first and top notes, I detect a very mild sweetness with nutmeg scent.
In the heart note, It changed to masterpiece perfume. Oud and smoke is so clear in this step. Epic is bitter in heart note and base note, but this bitterness isn’t to much. This is a good balance in bitterness property. The smoke scent is similar to burning some trees in jungle. Of course burning some wet trees, not dry one. I say that you can imagine some track of plant in this smoky note…
Please try this perfume, you don’t be regret for testing this …

no doubt that there is a Huge difference between the vintage (non-magnetic cap) and the newer version with the magnetic cap, the vintage is a lot denser and really thick and full body. The projection also is so much louder. and stays so much longer on your skin.
I was wondering why the reviews about this amazing fragrance have stopped, it used to be really hyped 2-3 years ago and now nobody is talking about it anymore, now I know the reason as I said above, honestly, i wouldn’t pay $100 for the new reformulation.

  39. :

I got myself an old non-magnetic bottle which is rare and man oh man, it smells amazing, what is that stuff. I’m not good with notes, but wow, this smells amazing and right away jumped to be in my top list. I own interlude, lyric, jubilation, reflection, the top one is Epic, then Jubilation then the rest.

Very exotic luxurious woody and spicy gloriness with the best natural incense and myrrh you’ll ever smell. Amouage is undisputedly one of the greatest niche house and EPIC is no brainer not beastly as some of their offering like INTERLUDE(my personal favorite) but this still performs so well on me and a bit more versatile imo.
For me this gets a solid 9/10

I have a 10ml sample from Selfridges, London. Smells good, I love the tobacco note, but doesn’t project at all. Disappointing at this price point. Longevity is odd, some 4-5 hours after spraying it refuses to die but is nothing more than a skin scent.
Maybe olfactory fatigue on this one?

  44. :

    3 out of 5

Wow, my wife had gotten a small tester of this one and I finally gave it a try this morning. This is my first experience with Amouage fragrances and I am absolutely loving this one! Such a wonderful woody fragrance I can see how some might find it a bit overpowering to begin with but I enjoy nice strong scents and have been disappointed by so many expensive fragrances that are pretty much skin scents from the get go. This one has been going for 6 hours now and still going strong and that’s after being outside in the Texas heat which has already killed almost every other fragrance I’ve worn this summer. This one is a bit out of my budget but it’s definitely made it to my want list.
***Update*** I’m wearing this again have almost totally gone through the sample now and can’t praise this one enough, so, so good. Just sitting back on the couch and enjoying the amazing cloud surrounding me, have got to find a way to get some more of this one sometime!

The two fragrances are world’s apart making me wonder why you would put them side by side. But having said that I will always choose Epic over Tuscan Leather(TL) in every imaginable way.It lasts and lasts and projects like crazy.Maybe I am being biased but I am not a huge fan of leather fragrances so that could be part of the reason.

Epic Man is from 2009 and came to market along with the female version of the same name. Both fragrances were designed to portray the legends of the ancient Silk Road (linking the Far East with Europe). While the feminine fragrance symbolizes the endeavor commanded by strength and ambition, the masculine represents a compass used by caravans.
The man behind the concept of Epic Man is the very guardian of legends – the guiding light of this mystical journey, the omniscient force of nature.
Epic Man portrays, more precisely, the routes from China to Arabia and has essence from the berries of pink pepper, cumin, frankincense, essence of cardamom, saffron, essence of mace (red bark that surrounds nutmeg), nutmeg and essence of myrtle. All of this is just the top of the olfactive pyramid! In the body, the composition has essences of geranium and myrrh, while the base carries notes of oud, sandalwood, patchouli, leather, frankincense (olibanum), cedar, musk and castoreum. I think that from that point, you can imagine the type of fragrance that lies ahead, right?
Epic Man is classified as a woody-oriental scent by the company itself, but I think it is far beyond that. In my opinion, it’s a woody-incense spicy and green fragrance. But not green of balsamic or mossy types. It is the green of the spicy type, which only a good cardamom is able to confer.
When applied on the skin, the fragrance shows a bit of everything: the leathery side of the saffron, the incense, a sweet facet and the spicy of the cardamom. In seconds, the trail begins to be left where the caravan passes. Again, we have a smoky resin, more luminous and that gives the touch of the perfumes of the East: the myrrh. It opens its way to the base, with another dose of incense and leather, plus the creaminess of sandalwood and the woody power of agarwood, taken by fungus. Reinforcing all this, we have the castoreum, animalic and long lasting.
Epic Man is one of those fragrances that convey the richness of the Middle East, with its spices, tapestries and jewels. And even existing a female version, I can predict many women wearing the male version. But I can not imagine a promised bride or a young emperor sustaining such perfume. It was definitely created for adults and lovers of leathery fragrances, which project and last indefinitely.
And as the legends behind the Silk Road reveal that not only the silk was marketed, but also gold, tea, incense, spices and precious stones, the Epic bottles received green Jade color.

    Aziyade
بوی اپیک در مرحله نت میانی خیلی شبیه به آزیاده میشه. البته در اینجا کمی (نه زیاد) عود هم به مشام میرسه

My third favourite Amouage’s fragrance, the second it’s Jubilation and the first Interlude Man. Epic Man it’s for me a fine proof of oriental style of this house. Mainly, here I perceive incense, oud, spices and sandalwood. Them are very arabic notes. The medicinal accord it’s perceived here enough but not results harsh like for example on Montale. Epic Man it’s very dry, not sweet like Jubilation. The dryness for me it’s synonymous of masculinity.
On summary, a great oriental fragrance, very manly, suitable for special occasions and cold days.

There is something I must admit: the first time I’ve sniffed Epic Man it was an absolutely horrendous experience! I almost threw up, haha!
But then, something’s made a “click” inside of my head and I started loving it kinda trying to remember that awkward olfative experience and I didn’t even had a sample myself! I was trying to remember of how it smelled when I first tried and it go me fascinated!!!
Got my hands on a vintage bottle of this splendid juice! Couldn’t be happier!

i received my bottle yesterday and man… i’m so disappointed.
i have a sample of Epic, which is probably from a vintage (or at least an older) bottle. the sample is LOUDER and longer lasting. also it’s more animalic (more castoreum and patchouli) and spicy.
the new juice has a sweetish vibe (more nutmeg and cardamom?). lasts only 4 hours on my skin (after 1-2 hours just skin scent).
I’ll send it back tomorrow. EPIC FAIL!
    &§#% Amouage! seriously… i was so damn hyped…
i wonder if current Interlude Man is similarly watered down / reformulated. that’s also on my wish-list.

    “Woods, Smoke, and Spices”
If Interlude is the most eastern offering from Amouage and Reflection the most western, Journey and Epic sit in the middle of the spectrum. The way Journey and Epic differ is Journey leans toward western while Epic leans toward eastern.
Epic is dense and heavy, but not not too much. It is loud, but it doesn’t get in your face. It is spicy and woody, but still fresh. It is sophisticated, but not confusing.
    Different notes dance together so perfectly that it never becomes offensive or out of harmony;
Wood, balsamic, spices, and smoke are the prominent notes that can easily be distinguished.
Epic can definitely be used as a signature scent and worn almost all year long. The balsamic note makes it an easy fragrance to wear during spring and warmer seasons while the woody and smoky notes make it wearable during colder seasons. I would avoid wearing it during hot summer days though.
When I smell Epic, I picture a manager who is mature, confident, serious about his job, and authentic. (they don’t exist nowadays). It is a perfect scent for work environments.
It doesn’t have the WOW factor of Interlude, the romantic vibe of Lyric, or the sensual feel of Reflection, but it is an extremely elegant fragrance nonetheless.

Spicy and dry with a really nice incense backbone. A real olfactory journey through the oriental places. Great Amouage quality.

My review is for the reformulated magnetic cap version of Epic Man which will be short ‘n sweet. Overall, I find Epic Man to be a very nice, very pleasant oriental-woody fragrance with heavy notes of oud, frankincense, leather, myrrh and saffron. While I find Epic Man to be a very nice scent, it didn’t really Wow! nor did it scream at me to take notice.
I have seven (7) Amouage perfumes and I must admit that I was disappointed with performance of this one in that it lasts only 6-8 hours and stays close to the skin after the first hour or so. Fortunately, it leaves a very nice scent trail so all is not lost in regards to performance. Still, I was hoping for much, much more in regards to performance with this Amouage scent with such heavy notes and accords…not Epic at all in this area.
In the end this fragrance is a nice little masculine oriental-woody oud fragrance that works well for Fall/Winter office wear. I never would have imagined! To me, Epic Man is a professional and opulent scent perfect for formal attire or suit & tie office wear. While I am disappointed that Epic Man wasn’t more epic in the area of performance with this reformulated version, it’s a really likable scent that grows on my each and every day; strong like for me. Hopefully, I can put my nose on an older bottle of Epic Man in the future.

    1) To my nose, Epic man is a great creation. It offers a fantastic super peppery dry opening soon to turn into a genuine masculine scent combining spices, incense and leather. Very rarely (in my experience) have I encountered fragrances exhibiting the “thickness” and “full-body” sensation that Epic does. Everything about this perfume smells of quality and true perfumer’s inspiration.
    2) Many people complain about the price of Amouage fragrances and I couldn’t disagree with that. Personally, I own a full bottle because I was lucky to grab a tester at 50% discount. I would never have paid retail for Epic. But on the other hand I couldn’t ignore the fact that most designer fragrances retail at around 80,00€ and cost no more than 1,00€ (I am referring to the juice and the bottle, not the marketing campaign). So if Epic is expensive, Boss The Scent, for example, is . . . genocide.
    3) I have read many stories about non-magnetic or magnetic caps (and maybe electro-magnetic in the future) to be associated with changes in the formula. I have done an extensive research on this matter and have found no concrete proof. Only speculations and individual perceptions. So, it may be true or it may not. Personally, I do not care. I cannot live a life full of nightmares about reformulations. Unless of course a time travelling machine is soon to be invented so that I can go back and track down the perfect batches.
Amouage Epic man, as it comes out of my early 2015 bottle, smells luxurious, exotic, oriental and elegant, radiating dark masculine confidence with its long-lasting discreet but classy woody leathery drydown.
    Dramatic & serious.

This Amouage is pretty much all over the place and not refined but still a love of mine. I have a hard time determining WTF it is! It’s woody/spicy/oud and leather at the same time. Very complex and not for the casual user. Performance is off the chain! I have an older bottle so I can’t speak for the reformulation. For sure it’s a CEO scent and as much as I hate Donald Trump I could see him wearing it.

Epic it’s for me an animalic oriental. Therefore, I perceive enough a very musky vibe. This vibe doesn’t result too much dirty like for example Muscs Koublai Khan. Epic it’s a complex and arabig fragrance. Also, for me it’s very manly since it has a remarkable leather, smoky and woody character.
On summary, another great oriental fragrance by Amouage. Suitable for cold weathe
