Description
After Rock Crystal, Olivier Durbano create an other fragrance inspired by Amethyst. The Amethyst which was considered for a long time like one of the most precious stones due to its purple, lilac, or mauve color, derives its name from the Greek “Amethustos” which means “protects against inebriety”.
In the Antiquity, the amethyst was considered to be a talisman against drunkenness and a protection against poison and ill fate. It was a symbol of self-effacement, inner peace, and temperance but was also associated with the purifying force of the spirit.
Mythology has it that the Greeks used cups made of amethyst in order to protect themselves against the excesses of alcohol yet water poured in those cups made out of amethyst took on the color of wine.
The Eau de Parfum Amethyste also belongs to the family of spicy woody perfumes; a perfume that is mysterious and powdery, protective and fruity, like a resuscitated secret.
Top notes (hesperidic, spicy, fruity): bergamot, pepper, grape, raspberry
Middle notes (woody floral): incense, rosewood, jasmine, orris
Base notes (woody, musky, vanillic): vegetable amber, sandalwood, musk, vanilla.
The fragrance was introduced in 2006.

I actually really like it! I am a citrus-fruity person and usually cannot wear heavy “complex” scents. But this is a cosy sandalwood with fruity-berry addition.
Yes, it feels familiar, but still so unique. I would actually buy a decant.

My first impression was that it reminded me of a more sophisticated version of Bath and Body Works Moonlit Path. Once it opened up however, things changed quite a lot. It’s a soft smoky grape with some creamy vanilla and waxy orris. A warm fireplace crackling in the center of the room. Comforting burnt sandalwood. Woody, balsamic, slightly sweet, and softly fruity. This elegant, lovely brew could warm you up on a cold day. Feminine and wintry. I do not find this generic at all, but it would be nice if there was more projection and longevity. 7/10.

I love Amethyst!! Adore the fruit; adore the mix of amazing things – grapes, incense, jasmine, raspberry, rosewood, ambrette, pepper, bergamot; then the beautiful dry-down of sandalwood, vanilla, ambrette and musk – all so delightful. Powdery and spicy, balsamic and woody. What a delightful concoction. I love it. Really interesting and very pleasurable. I love the incense, and sandalwood. And the grapes. And the lovely rich creamy vanilla. Beautiful, really soft and sweet, bitter and smooth, and fiery and gentle. Lots of things, which work really well for me. It’s a gorgeous perfume. I find it very purifying, uplifting and embracing. Very special perfume for me. A spiritually calming effect it has on me.
And I love love love the bottle, and particularly the divine, very soothing and healing colour. It’s beautiful.

This is somehow a foody Hot Couture. Smells like some type of sweet and sour chicken marinade, with emphasis on sweet. When I still ate meat I hated when dishes tried to be both sweet and savory, it just didn’t do it for me. I hated when they would put pineapple chunks in the chicken stew in school, for example. In this I smell grape, coriander, pepper, curry and cumin – the last time I smelled a fragrance this savory was McQueen Kingdom. I am a bit surprised, and I am not too stoked about it. I find the name inappropriate.

This is a woody spicy scent with a sour fruity vibe to it. It smells like something very generic from that period (2000s) and I’m left unimpressed with the composition. Furthermore, the quality of the ingredients does not stand up to the price tag they expect!
It has very good lasting power and moderate projection. Overall: 6 out of 10.

I like Amethyst but it does somehow leave me longing for more…
More what? I dont really know
There is a common ness to the smell but also an oddness
maybe the sweet vanilla candle/incense is the common
and the sour grapes the odd
Im not sure. I think the sandalwood/ pepper/ jasmine
are nicely balanced and the orris adds a bit of creaminess
may be i just wish it were a little less sweet and a little more weird

Amethyst would have been a decent masculine, if not for the sour fruity note; or maybe it would have been a bland fruity-floral, if there were much less sandalwood? Either way, I am not very impressed with this creation: it smells familiar, but at the same time something is lacking; just a shade of something else.

With the exception of Black Tourmaline and the latest Citrine, I find the rest of the Durbano’s deliveries to be somewhat forgettable. Amethyst is a woody-fruity concoction with a peppery vibe during the opening that quickly turns into a sweetish incensey drydown of little interest. Not completely bad bu short lived and nowhere close being intriguing…
Rating: 5/10

Durbano is a house that I have neglected for a long time. I decided to start with Amethys, since the combination of the notes looked very promising.
Grapes and incense are two notes that are definitely make this composition stand out. Incense here is heavy and sweet, manoeuvring between a church and a wine shop. I was very intrigued at first. It’s quite an unusual fragrance, as it develops you get the drynes of the wood and powdery musk and a touch of vanilla.
My only complaint is the longetivity really. The fragrance is sometimes so faint that I can barely smell it at all. It does miracles in open spaces: whem Im outside, it expands and surrounds me with the grape encensy cloud, but whenever I’m indoors, a magic trick happens and Amethyst shies away. Then, no matter what happens, 2 hours later it’s gone for good. For this price, a bit of a disappointment.

Amethyst is the most feminine from Durbano’s line. Grapes mixed with incense smoke. That’s the shortest desription. As always I feel the fragrance is unique and beautiful. I don’t know anything else like this. BTW: amethyst is a stone of sobriety. I belive that grape notes aren’t here by chance… As all Durbano’s fragrant stone poems this one is for searchers. Thumbs up!
