I thought I would love American Cream just based on the notes. But, to me, it smells like someone unfortunately spilled their strawberry milkshake into a bed icky flowers. A lot of people rave about this scent, but it doesn’t do it for me at all. We all perceive scents differently though.

I like this scent, really I do! Alas, I cannot wear it due to allergies. It makes me violently ill. Made the mistake of using the hair conditioner/perfume and unfortunately was stuck with it for over a day because it just would not wash off. It was a lovely scent, but I remember lamenting that the strawberry note was absent to my nose before I was overwhelmed.
I’m shuddering now just remembering how sick I was from it.
Why do I do these things? I obviously don’t love myself…
    o.o

I must say the hair conditioner is great. It’s very expensive, (40 dollars for a decent bottle) but I will tell you a secret. Condition your hair with your regular conditioner. AFter you get out of the shower/bath, put a dime size amount of American Cream in your hair as a leave in conditioner. Your hair will smell the same and your expensive bottle of American Cream will last a very long time, even the small bottler!

I’ve never tried the perfume (they need to bring it back!) but the American Cream conditioner smells AMAZING! I could bathe in it (hehe) and wish they had a whole line with the fragrance. I feel like a ponytail-and-poodle-skirt clad teenager in the 1950s sharing a milkshake with a cute Greaser while listening to the jukebox.

Ever since I’ve been 10 years old (yes, 10!), I’ve been a Lush junkie, or Lushie as they would call it. Although I have stopped my Lush addiction, their American Cream conditioner had been my all-time favorite signature scent. They used to sell the American Cream fragrance in a solid perfume format, and I’ve been using it religiously until they discontinued their solid perfumes. Seriously disappointed. 🙁
I now have a scent dupe of the American Cream fragrance in a body butter format by Mad City Sue on Etsy. Although it does smell reminiscent of a strawberry and vanilla milkshake (with a heavy emphasis on the vanilla), the clary sage and lavender tempers the sweetness of vanilla so perfectly. It’s a linear fragrance, but I get constant compliments when I apply body butter before putting my clothes on.

One of my favourite ‘Forum Special’s’ from LUSH.

I adore this perfume eventhough I am a more floral scent type. But dont let the sweet vanilla labels the hidden notes which signatures this scent the TRUE star! The sweet note is more from raw vanilla bean note than usual market vanilla scent which either smellls very synthetic or plum suger sweet. But this is unique! The twist of lavender and clary sage separate this scent from the usual sweet baking to a more sophisticated!
I have always been a fan of perfume and owned hundreds different scents and yet this is one of my very top favourite! 🙂

If this smells anything like the conditioner, then I need it in my life! The conditioner smells divine! Vanilla heaven!

so sad, I love these notes above but sage and lavender which is in this as well are not listed above. The end result smells like strong plastic. Unfortunately it made me physically sick when I wore it.

I had in a solid perfume. I liked. Very warm, mild and homely fragrance. In him I want to wrap up, as in a fuzzy blanket). Sweet milk with strawberry.

Oh my god, I really love the American Cream conditioner! It’s a staple in my home. If I got this I would be the happiest person in the world!
American cream basically smells like vanilla, strawberries, lavender, honey, and oranges. It smells gorgeously and it’s the best smell ever. I didn’t even know there was a perfume (that I missed to get..) with that scent!

A dear friend of mine has this perfume, and I had a chance to spray a bit on myself today. Gosh,I cannot get enough of it! 🙂
This is a complex scent with a layered beauty. It is creamy, sweet, herbal, vanilla, and somehow the notes do give off a sort of “strawberry candy accord”.
I fooled my friend with my imitation oil I have of it! When I wore it to meet up with her a few weeks ago,she said: “Oooh, when did you buy American Cream? It smells so good on you!”
    Peace

    I LOVE this perfume!
The liquid spray of this at Lush is vegan (honey notes are not real honey). I love that Lush is cruelty free and loves animals and Earth so much.
I could not afford the $40 price for the American Cream perfume spray. So I decided to buy an imitation oil of it (also cruelty free and vegan 🙂 ) The imitation smells EXACTLY the same! I bought a 1/8 ounce sample of it for $3.49.
This perfume oil is complex, creamy, unique,so gorgeous. This is a really different take on vanilla. There are herbal notes (clary sage’s strong hands are here) ,there is lavender so purple and cooling,BUT there is warm, sweet vanilla, powder of violets which are another purple gem. This perfume is somehow cool/crisp, and yet warm and sweet at the same time! 🙂 I am a sucker for this kind of scent dichotomy! 🙂
**The imitation oil lasts a good 8-10 hours on my skin! 🙂 The drying down is that same warm/cooling feel. In strong heat of summer, this perfume can be soothing and heady all at once! It really has a thick waxiness to it which I adore.
The imitation, just like Lush originals, has that “signature Lush jasmine note” which I love. This is not as jasmine intensive as Vanillary though. Those who want to try an herbal vanilla unique perfume, should try this out even if you don’t like jasmine.
    Peace and Love

Smells just like the conditioner 🙂 Really sweet and girly. Perfect for daily wear. I always get lots of comments when I wear this. I don’t really pick out the strawberries, but they must be in there somewhere. Has a really great staying power, lasts all day on me.

I used to put a little tiny bit of the conditioner on my wrists because I loved the smell so much, so I was really pleased when Lush started to actually make a perfume! This is just gorgeous vanilla with a hint of strawberry. Yummy!

I like this scent, but I want to say that the notes listed above are not entirely correct. Where’s the CLARY SAGE?? Besides vanilla, clary sage is not only listed by LUSH as one of the main scent notes, but it is also the most obvious when you smell it (besides the vanilla). Just keep that in mind if you are heading in this direction. I do not get strawberries at all. I get clary sage and vanilla. It is still quite nice, but I don’t think it’s as fruity as it’s made out to be. To me it’s a nice, milky, slightly herbal vanilla scent. Strawberries? I don’t think so. Oranges? Maybe for a moment. Quite a unique scent you won’t find elsewhere. Too bad it’s limited edition, but I find that the American Cream conditioner does leave your hair scented for a few hours, which is nice 🙂

This to me is very interesting.
The notes should tell you that this one is very very sweet . in line off pink sugar and so , But infact it is not at all . Well it is kind off sweet , but in a not cloying way IMO. It is infact very Waxy . Its like smelling a warm honey, vanilla candle wax.
I cant detect much strawberrys in this . It is milky , warm , honey waxy, orange vanilla almost a bit buttery. very warm and cozy.
This is hard to describe for me who English isent the first languege . But this is like a warm skin scent. some perfumes are cool and fresh one the skin , This is more off a warm blancet,
This makes me think off warm home made cakes .
Sadly this is a bit to warm for me , i like the more cooling type . a bit to waxy to me. but the staying power … WOW ……
this lasts and lasts forever , i have only put it on my hand a few times to test . and wow this follows me around the whole day;) .

Just like the conditioner, just more concentrated. Lovely!

The American Cream conditioner was a bit of a stayer in my hair….ie…couldn’t rinse the darned stuff out! Despite having cardboard hair, I loved the smell of it! So I welcomed the solid perfume of this scent….didn’t quite get the strawberries, just got the warming, creamy flavour- the solid perfume did have a rather synthetic tinge to it (mine is a few years old, so that may be the problem)
Edit: after a few hours of wearing the old stock solid perfume, the synthetic has worn off, just getting a warm, creamy vanilla with a slightly musky twist…nice!

The American Cream conditioner did nothing for my hair but I loved the smell. So obviously, when I stepped into a Lush shop and saw the solid perfume… I had to buy it. And then return and buy another one for my daughters.
I can find neither strawberries nor cream, to be honest. In spite of Lush’s claims of naturalness, American cream has a little synthestic note and I can’t identify a simple, natural scent as its foundation.
It’s a lovely, sweet, soothing scent. Like all Lush solids, I bought if for my hair. I rub it in my fingertips and then rub them in my hair. A little goes a long way.
BTW, the good buttery base of these solids makes them effective concentrated treatments for fingernails and cuticles. If you are stranded and have no handcream, and you know that your fingernails tend to brittleness, just rub in a bit of Lush solid perfume. Great smelling hands and happy cuticles. 🙂
