After two limited edition versions of the original A * Men fragrance, A * Men Pure Coffee from 2008 and A * Men Pure Malt from 2009, Thierry Mugler presents the new edition A * Men Pure Havana in May 2011. A * Men Pure Havana is a gourmand interpretation of the tobacco scent and the finest Cuban cigars signed by perfumer Jacques Huclier.

The composition opens with fresh tobacco leaves and honey, followed by notes of patchouli, vanilla and bitter cocoa. The base is warm and oriental with notes with labdanum, amber and styrax.

It is available as 50 and 100 ml EDT.

I’ve never smoked. Grant me the luxury of this fine tabacco. For life.

Va benissimo in autunno e in inverno. Sia di notte che di giorno. Va bene anche in diversi contesti: lavoro, club, fuori a cena, meeting etc etc.

    Porn in a bottle
I used to hate it because it reminded me of Original A*Men (which I hate so much), But I gave it another chance and I love it now. At the start it’s little bit sharp with a DNA of A*Men, But The magic happens in dry down. It’s really yummy that you want to bite the bottle. It reminds me of snowy nights while I’m eating Cake and hot chocolate.
Such a sexy and unique fragrance.

    User doc_akh:
I noticed that too! This is an awesome fragrance but it’s like I can only wear it occasionally or my nose starts to turn on it. I can’t wear it two days in a row. That’s fine as I rarely like the same thing twice in a week but the second week I owned this I used it extensively and found myself just hating it after three days! The scent seemed to be everywhere as it had stuck to my clothes and the hamper was filling up the surrounding area with the smell.
The next week, I thoroughly enjoyed it again. So I agree with you. It’s strange but I can only wear this occasionally if I want to enjoy it. Maybe it just fatigues my nose? It could also be something I just now thought of: I quit smoking a year after I graduated college and after that I couldn’t stand cigarette smoke or even the smell of cigarettes… which contains tobacco. It may just be subconsciously reminding me of a time when my clothes always stank of tobacco in some form or another.
Whatever the case, still really like this one but that is one of the strangest experiences I’ve had in my fragrance wearing time.

Incredibly unique fragrance like everything Mugler does. Has to be my favorite line and I am collecting them all. This and Kryptomint are my favorite I think. Ultra Zest is good too(why those are limited edition I don’t know!..). All mixed together the notes give off a bit of a eucalyptus/Tabacco/vanilla smell, bit of cinnamon, in a good way. It’s amazing

Haven’t smelled anything like this before. This is really interesting and well done scent. Leaves a nice sillage. Or so I thought. Wearing this regularly makes you feel absolutely disgusting. You are literally coated with red cherry tobacco, your clothes, your room, everything. I’d like it if it were a tad more professional but this is ultra-casual. Going to pass on this one.

I love this stuff! But it’s for people with a sweet tooth. I’m not great with naming notes but I believe the main ones I smell are honey, tobacco and a berry accord. I think the opening is pretty similar to ck one shock but the two are defiantly not identical, just in the same family to me. Lasts forever but the saillage leaves somthing to be desired. Put it on, on a Friday morning for school and still smelled it while I played a football game that night. Crazy

If Guerlain is Cadbury and Creed is To’ak, that makes Mugler Willy Wonka. Every note you read with your eyes exists here, but it smells like a distorted funhouse mirror version of it. World’s of imagination are fun and all, but once you put on something “normal” again, you feel like you just stepped out of biazarro world.

First i have to say that the smell it amazing, very warm and delicious, perfect for the cold months. But with this terrible performance forget about wearing it in cold weather, it can’t cut through. This is one of the best scents i’ve encountered and yet one of the worst performing. On my skin it lasts around 6-7 hours as a skin scent with 1 hour of very soft projection. After 1.5-2 hours the projection is completely gone. Some people claiming that this is beast mode, but for me it is terrible. Probably it is reformulated and i wouldnt suggest to buy it and i wouldn’t buy it again for sure. Even if I love the smell what’s the point if I can’t smell it after 1 hour.

I bought this for my husband. The package and bottle are really beautiful (although sometimes difficult to spray), the bottle is heavy, seems well made, beautiful color, he really likes it. The scent is really nice, perfectly blended, not sharp at all, not super sweet either. This is definitely not a synthetic fragrance, and we were actually expecting it to be more sweet. To me it smells like an expensive, luxurious french tobacco soap. Very unique smell. I also think there is nothing cheap about this scent. It’s smooth and beautiful. Longevity and sillage appeared to be moderate though, I wish it was better. More importantly, my husband loved it.
Edit: longevity and sillage now that we have tested it better seem to be good. He can smell it all day. This is no powerhouse but very, very decent, especially for an EDT. To me this is the best men’s cologne I have ever smelt. This is something else, really sexy.

Drug-store shaving cream. All synthetic cherry, no tobacco.
The hard-to-find nature of this perfume tricked me into thinking it was going to be good. I spent too long anticipating it.
It’s a lot cheaper than TF Tobacco Vanille, but there’s no reason to buy Pure Havane when there are so many deals for SL Chergui (often on sale for sixty dollars) especially since the projection is so lacking.

Great release but the performance was average on me …But never the less great scent indeed..

  15. :

    4 out of 5

Smelt perfect on paper but the moment I sprayed on skin it smelled kind of bad. Test it on yourself before buying. Smells like sweet cherry (or dirty cherry if on skin for me lol) from the beginning to the end. Longevity is not that great also but the projection was above average.

  16. :

    5 out of 5

This is a stand alone, 9/10 Mugler fragrance.
And I’ve tried all the male fragrances in the line.
The typical patchouli Mugler thing is very subtle in Pure Havane and combined with the vanilla sometimes produces a very pleasing cherry note to the overall tobacco. While other times, the cherry is absent on the opening, replaced with a soft honey and resin scent. I have experienced this difference on many occasions.
Tobacco fragrances have always worked for me. My skin loves it and so do the people around me. I haven’t tried some of the more expensive examples because I get amazing compliments and reaction to Pure Havane.
I’ve tried Spice Bomb and and the usual Fall/Winter suspects and have found many to be either too burnt rubber, or trying to smell like Christmas potpourri. (Can’t believe I know how to spell that)
Pure Havane just nails the tobacco thing in a way that is sophisticated without being old man. If you haven’t tried it, it is definitely worth a blind buy.

    QUESTION:
Have you ever spent a warm fall evening on the worn, sunbleached steps of a secluded mountain cabin, surrounded by crisp brown leaves and the red setting sun while sipping at a warm mug of chai tea, your toes warm in your thick woolen socks that were knitted by hand especially for you in seasonal colors by your kindhearted lumberjack husband and his large dog?
Have you ever curled up next to the fire in a handmade quilt over a surprisingly realistic faux fur bear pelt as you drank warm, spiced wine together with the radio on?
Pure Havane Is That Feeling of cozy, intimate comfort distilled into liquid form.
If you could inject it directly into your veins, you would ride a vivid, hallucinagenic high that could only end with you, surrounded by concerned authorities as you traipsed- bare-footed and white-gowned with moss tangled in your hair- through the underbrush of a national park, gently humming along to the tune of a Hosier song you once heard on your car radio during heavy traffic.
The initial spray is heady and rich, fading out into a clean pine smell that lays temptingly close to the skin. Lasts over six hours, tapering off to a subtle maple-sugar sweetness.

Headache inducing synthetic cherry. i regret buying it.

  19. :

    3 out of 5

It’s strange that there is no cherry note listed in the pyramid. From the start until 20 minute mark or so, the smell was very similar to the one you get when opening a fresh pack of cherry tobacco.
My next impression was — Burberry London, but with an added boozy chocolate earthiness that blended very well with the tobacco note. So much so that I didn’t even mind the cherry note anymore, although it’s not my favorite and I don’t like gourmand fragrances in general. But wearing it in the summer, it never got cloying, because there is enough density, earthiness and darkness to back up the sweetness from cherry and honey.
Comparing it to Pure Malt, I’d say that in the beginning, Pure Havane is basically Pure Malt plus cherry. But the drydown is quite different. In comparison, you can really distinguish the cherry and cocoa note even after a full day of wearing, while Pure Malt wears into a more generic and neutral (although pleasant) woody spicy base.
But without the comparison, I found that the cherry note induced some nose fatigue and faded into a generic warm “red” canvas for the rest of the composition without being distinguishable separately.

My all time favourite scent! From the cherry top note to the amazing labdanum drydown. It is my go-to anytime it is cold outside. Easily 10/10. I have yet to try a fragrance where I loved every single note since spraying it. I love how I dont have to wait till the drydown to enjoy its magnificent smell.

This is not a true gourmand, unless you consider smelling like a Cuban cigar as gourmand. I sprayed kryptomint on my right and pure Havane on my left. If your about to lay down with a lady, I want to smell like mint cookies rather than a Smokey fruit flavored black & mild.

I blind bought this and unfortunately, I was not a fan. Ended up selling it after about 2ml of use.
Not as sweet as you would think, the honey is not very prominent. Tobacco is there though along with the A*Men DNA.
I prefer 18.21 Sweet Tobacco Spirits over this. I agree with those below me and would recommend to sample or try before you buy this.

My body chemistry is awfully picky. Vanilla works and turns into boozy awesome, most citrus (especially lemon!) most definitely does not and turns me into Mr. Clean. Florals are a mess but coffee does well. I’m still somewhat new at cologne, so I figured I’d give tobacco a shot and see if my body screamed bloody murder and turned me into an ash tray or if I’d smell like “The World’s Most Interesting Man” after he just walked out of a gourmet cigar shop.
This stuff is just plain delicious on me. A warm, honey tobacco with hints of chocolate. Seriously, like a very fine, fresh cigar straight from Cuba. Just some gorgeous stuff here and I truly love it. Lasts quite a while on me and sillage is excellent…on me.
There is, however, one problem by the name of Reyane Tradition II Wild. See, it smells 95% identical at $23 a bottle. It has a bit more pronounced mint and is ever so slightly not as smooth. I own both and bought them at the same time. Put one on each wrist and I really, really had to nitpick to find a difference. Mugler is better and smoother but by very, very little. 5% difference but $40 difference in price. I’ll save my Mugler for special occasions but my everyday tobacco cologne is going to be Reyane Tradition II Wild.
Havanne is tops, to me, in my tobacco cologne search (I have 4). One of my top 3 colognes I own, hands down. Yet, Wild duplicates it so well that it’s what is going to find itself in my heavy rotation come fall. I see that Havane is special edition so maybe it won’t be around much longer? Either way, I’ll save it for my moments I really want to shine.

    I really enjoy this fragrance….
It’s very unique and is one of a kind…
It’s many shades of dark brown with ribbons of cherry red and white..
For the price point ….absolutely worth the price of admission.
    Clumsy bottle though.

I hope this is considered a classic.
Nothing else in the designer world does what this can.
You get a sweet resinous, pure malt like base, the nuance of cherry, pipe tobacco and spices.
It is noticeable and projects well, but is not too bold like the the first batches of spicebomb, and is much richer and more harmonious.
A good first sniff or step into the world of gourmand, because this borders on gourmand.
For me this is a casual fall scent I love and much better than paco rabanne one million.
If you want something less sweat and with leather , polo supreme leather is good.
A masterpiece with 5 to 7 hours longevity and good projection

Smells like sex in a high society cuban mansion at noon with a beautiful sweet cuban model while a cuban cigar is resting lit on a chocolate ashtray. Smells like dreams then…
Love it. Magic smell. Pornography in a bottle. 9/10 scent for me, wear it in winter days and dates.
Warning: It will stay on your nose and skin for a lifetime and you will be addicted to it. I can’t stop smelling my wrist all the time when I wear it

Once it drys down a bit its better. The dry down is gorgeous so is pure malt.
It can smell a bit just like cherry at first but the dry down is gorgeous.
And you can smell this the next morning. You don’t need to spray much. Maybe if you use it all the time you will become used to it and will overspray.

This is Pure Synthetic, Overly Sweet, linear smell, cloying & no Projection at all just Smells plainly like Shampoo. I think maybe it’s the new ph with the new packaging. I regret thi buy, I’m just thinking of getting out of the house of Mugler, the only gem I like is Pure Tonka, but they will reformulate it again.

    PURE HYPE.
Smells like very very sweet honey and chemicals. Thanks god for getting the sample before buying a full bottle. I am a big fan of sweet fragrances. I love v&r spicebomb extreme, TF noir extreme, d&g the one edp, 1 million, Pdm carlisle,Pdm herod, armani code profumo, and…(blind bought lot of them)
But this one, it is pure hype( not pure havana), it is sweet in a bad way.
I agree with that guy who said it smells like rubber.
Pure malt is better but not good enough too.
I prefer ultra zest(which i have in my collection) and kryptomint(these too are good but even these smells like plastic orange(synthetic smell).
    Really disappointed with this brand
Every cheapness has a good reason. A good fragrance has a good price. You can see the quality from cheap package and bottle.

The best scent from this house IMO but.. I can feel the original A Men DNA (which I hate) toned down.

Wait For the Drydown, Boy oh Boy it’s an Amazing Juice, I took it for granted at first, but to me it smells so Identical to Pure Tonka, the Only problem i have with this new formula is that you have to use heavy sprays in order for it to be detected, atleast 6-7 sprays Maximum, 5 on the skin and 1 on the cloth/2.

I bought this as my fall-winter fragrance. This fragrance isn’t wonderful because of its initial sweet blast: that gorgeous rum-macerated tobacco covered in crystallized honey and vanilla-infused sugar. No, this fragrance is wonderful because of the earthy heart and drydown. This fragrance masterfully blends patchouli, cacao, and styrax… this is what earth, soil, dirt would smell like if it was edible. If you’re a fan of dark chocolate, this stage is an expert olfactory reproduction of a small bite melting in your mouth, revealing notes of earth, grass, and hay. A genius counterpoint to the initial sweetness of this fragrance. BEAUTIFUL!!!

Described as “an oriental, full-bodied tobacco”, A* Men Pure Havane opens with an aromatic note of fresh tobacco leaves. The heart develops around a honeyed tobacco accord punctuated by vanilla and cherry notes. In the background a mix between patchouli and bitter cocoa. The Perfumer: Jacques Huclier, Givaudan has created a full-bodied fragrance like the best of cigars. This A* Men flanker is inspired by the expertise of prestigious cigars. A unique art that shares with the perfume values such as tradition, the requirement or the selection of noble materials. Pure Havane is definitely a virile and seductive fragrance. To me it is one the of the best flanker ever made with it’s brother Pure Malt.

Who could not like the smell of cherry cola with chocolate? I feel like this one is more mature than something like Pure Malt, but it’s more versatile as well. Excellent! Must have!

Like it well enough. Someone below said it is like 1 Million Prive with some cherry. I agree 100%. Ultrazest & Pure Tonka are still my number 1’s. Pure wook is coming so we will see…

Looking back on a 1 mL TPC decant. Opens bright and sweet, and dries down to a very sweet, almost confected, honey-driven scent with white floral and lime accents. I have failed to find any significant tobacco influence in this cigar at any point through the dry-down. On the other hand, this could complement cigar smoke.
Wear this in a cool February/March day in Ybor, a cigar in one hand, and a mojito in the other! OK for work in moderation. Avoid very hot days, as the sweetness could become cloying. Has good bones, but not all there. “Very good,” 87/100.

Just got a bottle from fragnet based on the batch code my bottle was produced in January of 2017. Based on reviews of older bottles I was expecting a room filler but that is not what this scent is at this time. Up close and to the wearer the scent is very rich thick dense and strong but it only projects about an arms length away. This scent does leave a trail though which is a plus. This will be my running errands, casual, and date night with the lady scent for the fall and winter. While the projection is not beast the longevity absolutely is. I can put 5 sprays of this on at 11 am and if I do not shower before bed then this will be the first thing I smell when I wake up the next day. I really wish projection was stronger but I am actually very happy with this fragrance . By the way the cherry note every one talks about is definitely a much more medicinal syrupy cherry than I was expecting but it’s really nice. Took me a couple of wearings before my nose picked it up. Basically if you’ve ever gotten cherry cigarillos in the foil pack it smells like a luxurious manly version of that lol.
A little update on this fragrance. We’ve been pounded by heat lately where I live but today we got a break. 71 degrees farenheit and rainy so I figured it was a good chance to give this fragrance a test run. I sprayed two sprays of this on the chest of my shirt two sprays on each shoulder of my shirt and two sprays to the back of my neck and for the first hour and a half I got pretty beastly performance but at no time was it closing or overpowering. It is now 8 pm and I still have a solid scent bubble of the honey tobbaco dry down. I’m sure any one I walk past will get a whiff and that is how I will apply this fragrance from now on. 8 sprays is double what I usually apply but that is what it takes with Pure Havane to get it to perform how I wanted it to before I bought it. I will be going through quite a bit of juice applying it that liberally however I think the scent is worth it. Super happy I tried that out today.

very sweet and it has moderate silage. I love it because of it is nice mix of tobacco and sweet notes though the sweet notes are much more noticeable. I feel it is the best for clubbing or dating use.

One of my favorites to wear when I’m just hanging out. Unlike a lot, I like Mugler, he has an interesting nose and take on scents. This one is pretty basic but it’s all it needs to be. I smell a light honey, sweet tobacco and the sparkling cherry on top. One of the reasons it’s a favorite is the price and value of a quality scent. It’s easy to wear. Very few are offended by it and most seem to like it, not really love but you’ll get compliments like, “You smell nice”. Not sexy or incredible but what can you expect from a fragrance at this price? I don’t understand some of the reviews that are talking about this not being out yet. It’s 2018, I’ve been buying it for about 3-4 years.

I am eager on Muglers but this one is whimsical…it’s smells like an old cherry hookah tobacco that we used to smoke in the college 😀 it is not bad, nooo….but it is only good for me because of this strange cherry vibe. Pure Tonka, and Malt are much better releases.

  51. :

    5 out of 5

Pure Havane is one of the better designer releases of recent years. A popular one at that. I owned PH for a while & it was a nice little addition to my ever growing collection. The tobacco, honey, vanilla & cherry note tho not listed it is there, was very nice. I got no cacao from this. The execution is good as I can see what Mugler was trying to do here & that is think outside of the box.
This made for a good date or bar fragrance if that is your thing & it appealed to the younger audience which I think it may have been targeted towards. It is not juvenile, but has this young man quality about it.
Unfortunately I grew tried of this & sold it as I did not have a need for it. Projection is on the low side for me, while longevity was around 6-7 hours which is good for an EDT! PH has it cult following & I can see why because for a designer release it will conjure up compliments & will grab attention. Tho for me there are better options out there that suits my needs. Enjoy!

A beautiful fragrance although it smells very close to pure malt and on drydown has the DNA (not strongly) of A* men (1996).
Personally I love it and every person (male or female) that has smelt it on me either loves it or at least like it.
The price is £48 in the UK which is very cheap for 100 ml of this beauty!!!
A winter night perfume, mostly suited for more casual wear.
A boozy opening which is just addictive!!!
A must have … I hope you get a good batch!!!
    9/10
    PS
I tried to be objective on the scent as this is my second bottle however …
I bought my second bottle of Pure Havane and my first bottle of Pure Malt (pure Malt I did not own before) directly from the Mugler website last week. Pure Havane is very watery, very light, all treble and hardly any bass, lasts and projects to about an hour… (pure malt slightly better)
    Overall a huge dissapointment…
Batch number 0636050 which is not even recognised.
EDIT: Compliment received in clothes shop 28/03/18
EDIT: Compliment received in the gym 10/04/18 (was worn simultaneously with pure malt)

I like it, maybe even really like it, but don’t love it.
That might just be a personal preference, though, as I’m just more of a beachy/summery fragrance kinda guy.
I just wanted this for colder weather and for winter/fall, and it does its job well. It’s a boozy, smokey vanilla with good projection and longevity, definitely noticeably above average in both respects. If this is your kind of scent, you’ll probably love it.
Good value for money too, better than a lot of more expensive perfumes when you consider performance. As far as boozy, smokey, ‘grown up’ vanillas go, I actually like this more than Tom Ford’s Tobacco Vanille.

This is BY FAR the best tobacco scent I’ve tried. To my nose, the composition is four notes, but one of them is missing in the breakdown. I get Tobacco, Honey, Vanilla, and….CHERRY. It’s beautiful, perfect, and simple…..to my nose.
WARNING: Every single guy I know absolutely loves this scent. On paper, on my skin, and on theirs. It’s practically universal. However, every single woman, without fail, that smells this fragrance smells…Menthol? I don’t know why, and I don’t know what they are picking up, but Vick’s VapoRub comes into conversation often.
In my opinion, GET IT. But understand that the ladies may not clamor to get a wif of you.
    Performance: 7.5/10

just purchased the 2017 bottle, the one with the MUGLER writing in the box. Very sexy, unique, niche quality scent! vanilla, tobacco, honey, cocoa, chocolate combo is just perfect! Lasts all day and the projection is excellent. Compliments all day 🙂
So purchase the 2017 version, its a beast! 10/10

A beautiful Cherry Tobacco scent with honey and cocoa. Even though there is no notes of cherry in this one but on the opening the first thing that comes into my mind is Cherry. It is beautiful, creamy, gourmand and warm sweet. I prefer this over the original Angel.

Long lasting but close to skin after an hour.
So i only use this for bedtime.
They make weak perfumes so that they can sell the exclusive line much higher price.

I got a sample of this for my husband to try but honestly he may never get to wear it because I LOVE it.
Tobacco, honey. It’s creamy and smooth and sweet and just heavenly. Totally unisex.

    Sweet – spiky – tobacco
    Color impression: magma red
There was an eerie tobacco shop in the town I studied. The shop with dark shimmering amber lights and wooden racks and shelves that hinder open orientation, used to look like a basement for maturation of tobacco products. It was full of intense smells and Pure Havane exactly gives me the same feeling. This perfume with spiky honey, sweet spicy tobacco, and exotic cacao and vanilla is more to be a tribute to what happens in Havana before cigars reach your hand. It’s raw and pure like curing tobacco leaves, otherworldly warm like magma, colossal and peculiarly sweet.

Fragrant sweet tobacco like cigarettes. The weakness of Mugler perfume in a rather different spray and the bottle is from rubber.

I finally got my own bottle of Pure Havane after months of hearing reviewers rave about it, and I’m happy to say that the hype is real. This is an amazing bouquet and I wish I hadn’t waited so long to purchase it.
The opening is gorgeous sweet tobacco with a hint of rum, layered beautifully with honey and vanilla. It put me in mind, just for a moment, of Remy Latour’s “Cigar” fragrance, but with a lot more character and depth.
Those bright sweet notes fade quite a bit in the first 20 minutes or so, and the core A*Men scent starts to appear, with that nice blend of cocoa and spice. By the end of the first hour this smells nearly identical to the original A*Men, but retaining that light honey and vanilla combination, which keeps this scent from ever getting as dark as its parent fragrance.
I apply it lightly because I think it could quickly get overpowering, and that light application no doubt affects my perception of its projection and longevity. I’d say it’s easily a 3-4 hour window before it starts to really fade, but I’m sure if I was a bit more heavy handed with it, I could get 5-6 hours out of this juice.

At first spray, Pure Havane reminds me of Angel Eau de Toilette for women; it possesses a similar astringent peppery sweetness, whereas instead of the red berries found in Angel, PH’s sweetness is more refined and subtle and overall feels much smoother with a balmy, smoky-sweet tobacco undertone. After the opening, this became very soft and remained close to the skin, settling into a warm honeyed vanillic base.
Will have to give this a thorough test soon. It’s pleasant and enjoyable, but not what I was expecting and VERY unisex.

Have any of you ever had the experience of trying a fragrance with low expectations because you associated a brand with gaudy people but that fragrance surpassed your expectations? I just had that with Thierry Mugler recently. What can I say about this? It’s so tacky that it’s good? Miuccia Prada once said “Sometimes we need a little tackiness”. I do mean tacky in a purely kind compliment. I guess my association with gaudiness and Thierry Mugler started in high school when a group of douchey boys from Brooklyn used to wear G-Star
