This is very green, extremely woodsy and its very pleasant. This smells manly and has a very nice majestic appeal to it and the sillage and longevity are very good. I give this a 9.1/10.

This is just an genuine-smelling, spicy, woody juniper. One of, if not my very favorite summer fragrance. II bought it blind as one of my first fragrances when I first was getting into fragrances and it only sparked more of an interest for this hobby.

This was a blind buy for me and I’m pumped I get to wear this in the summer.. The opening is very minty to me but the creamy patchouli dry down is what got me liking this fragrance.. I go back and forth pressing the like and love icon.. I came to the settlement that this is a strong like for me..

    Fragrance -A*Men Pure Energy Mugler
    Bottle from – 2016
Pure Energy opens on my skin with a fresh, green, herbal, spicy and a bit icy mint enchanted with some kind of an ancient woody magic.
During mid development, spices becomes a bit stronger with dominant pepper but Pure Energy is never too spicy.
This all leads into a woody, warm and spicy base with dominant patchouli with a hint of cozy vanilla and with an astonishing touch of sequoia(sequoia smells a bit like needles, resins and cypress).
    Longevity – 6/10(6+ hours)
Silage/Projection – 6,5/10(moderate projection and silage for the first 1-2 hours, than sits closer to skin for the duration of the scent’s evolution)
Weather -For more or less any time of year.Best in spring and summer.I personally wouldn’t wear this on a really cold winter days.
    Versatility – 9/10
    Age – 20+
    Compliments – 7/10
    Scent – 8/10
Main notes according to me –
    mint,juniper berries,pepper,patchouli,sequoia.
The drydown is woody, warm and spicy and I get some -patchouli,spices,vanilla and sequoia.
    Emotions –
    fresh,ancient woody magic,green,clean,unique,enigmatic.
Occasion -for more or less any ocasion.
    Try before you buy.

    Bottom line:like!
this is different from the a*man line.
mugler ice man in a a*man line bottle.
It’s creamie woodsie BUT i don’t get the energized sensation.
More suited for the autumn season, very nice on not so cold days and nights.
Discontinued so if you can find it under 60$ you won’t get disappointed.

Gorgeous wood/soapy spicy fresh juice. Similar to Bentley Infinite, but, the Bentley is a touch nicer and lasts much longer.

This is a very nice fresh, spicy and woody fragrance that makes it perfect for warmer weather outings. It’s nice to get a fresh fragrance without an assortment of citrus. It makes for a nice change. After a while you get hints of the A*Men DNA, but not it any over powering way.
It’s in no ways a beast but you know it’s there, works well on my skin for 6-7 hours, a little longer on clothes.

Everyone wants to claim that everything smells like Aventus, and yet this time I’m actually surprised to not see any references to it.
For me, notes aside, this starts out as an aquatic mix that falls somewhere between Aventus and Sauvage, mixed with some of the same aquatic notes you’d find in a lot of Nautica scents. But that’s only in the opening…
Once the opening fades, this stands on its own two feet, and the sequoia stands out as my favorite note. Unfortunately, the sequoia isn’t the star of the show like it is in scents like Profile 18 Amber Wood (love that stuff!)
All in all, this is a fresh juniper scent, and with that being said, it’s done well. Maybe it’s just me, but I really don’t get any of the mint. Not in an airy cool mint sort of way, at least… It’s nothing like any other mint scent I’ve encountered. Maybe my nose just isn’t capable of picking up the mint in this scent? I usually pick up on a lot of things other people don’t smell, but I can’t smell ISO E Super either, so who knows…
Either way, I’m not sure why there’s so much dislike for this one. I’ve gotten positive feedback on it and I like it quite a bit. Had I smelled this before purchasing Aventus and Sauvage, and even Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, I might have saved myself a lot of money. Actually, I’m thinking I’m going to sell my Light Blue and one other scent and use the proceeds to purchase this one.
*** I’ve been testing from a vial of Pure Shot

The description redacted by fragrantica of this fragrance is 100% accurate. Woody and Spicy!!! I imagine a tree recently cutted with grated pepper, blended with some sweet notes.
The smell is great, but unfortunately his sillage is like 6/10.

I have been exploring Mugler’s A*Men range recently. I am a middle age female Mugler fan and just acquired this one. I find it most similar to Kryptomint. The odd thing is that the mint in Pure Energy lasts throughout on me unlike Kryptomint where it’s only present in the opening then dries down like the original. I prefer this version hands down. While possessing much of the original A*Men DNA, it is far fresher and more vibrant than the original. This is is the perfect summer fragrance IMHO.

My quest for the perfect summer fragrance resulted in a blind buy of Pure Energy. As a disclaimer to this review, I own and enjoy Pure Havane, A*Men, and B*Men- I find them each unique enough to wear in differing situations. Reading your reviews, I took the gamble that Pure Energy differs enough from the others that it would not be redundant in my rotation….after wearing it for several days, here is my review:
It is difficult to imagine anything remotely connected with A*Men being thought of as a “summer scent”. This, however, manages to not only succeed but excel as a summer fresh scent. It is immediately obvious that Pure Energy has none of the heavy, sweet, chocolatey, indulgent richness of the original and its other flankers. If you’re turned off from Mugler by his trademark gourmand, this one may appeal to you.
Pure Energy is a beautiful woven olfactory tapestry of scents you encounter in a Pacific Coast coniferous forest- juniper, mint, sequoia, with mild patchouli adding extra woodiness. Unlike other A*Mens, the patchouli is not a main player in the drydown here. The result is a natural, refreshing, extremely pleasant fragrance. Nothing like its siblings really at all. It is more akin to B*Men’s spicy, woody character, though it is not as heavy.
And that….it’s the ONLY thing I can fault in this wonderful composition- it’s far too ephemeral. It opens with a solid, fragrant burst, giving the impression that it will be long lasting but after an hour or so, the bottom drops out of it. It seems as if Mr Huclier was too conscious of his heavy-handedness in his previous masterpieces that he went a little too far in the opposite direction on this one. What a shame! If this just had average longevity on skin, it would be one of my all-time favorites. Spraying on clothes doesn’t help. What a cruel trick, to give us such a beautiful scent and then have it pull a vanishing act. Perhaps there is genius at work here: pure energy= a brilliant burst of power that can only last for a short duration before spending its vital force. If that is the essence of this perfume, it’s been captured very well!
Final thoughts: buy it. A 100 ml bottle is available for around $40 and I find the incredible achievement of creating a non-aquatic, non-floral, non-citrusy, mesmerizing summer scent worth every penny, fleeting longevity notwithstanding. This is an amazing FRAGRANCE…not an amazing performer. It indeed does occupy its own place among other Muglers in my collection, and I am glad I bought it, even if it requires 6-8 sprays a day!

To me this is a quality scent. I can’t put my finger on what it is im smelling for sure but if I had to guess I would say the Juniper Berries. I have a 3ml sample of this that i got from myperfumesamples.com and upon first spray my wife was offended, not me. I am enjoying this fragrance and wore it on our date night just to be sure it was the fragrance that offended her (I sprayed one spray of each sample, this, havane, and the original, on each wrist and one forearm). This could be a signature scent of mine soon. It does well in the heat and was def on my skin when I woke up in the morning. I vote yes for this one!

  18. :

I second AlexFox – this has less of the common gourmand DNA of the original that is more present in other A*Men flankers. I’d say that makes this a try-before-you-buy in the event you are scooping it up based on your fondness for the line.
Testers are common out there, and you can also find some labeled Pure Shot, but since it’s the same scent remarketed to keep from having to have too many discussions about the face of Pure Shot during his trial, you can test it on your skin with one of those as well.
I’m still a huge fan because I adore Terre D’Hermes, and this one is basically the lovechild of the original A*Men and TDH. The bottles are still quite affordable – so if you enjoy both A*Men AND TDH, you are probably more securely in blind-buy territory.
As a much drier option than the rest of the flankers, I think this is a lot more versatile.

This is really good. I don’t like too sharp-citrus fragrances and i also don’t like too sick-sweet ones. This is not sharp and not sweet-it’s really fresh and as the name says energizing.

I am a perfume and cologne reseller and have over 200 fragrances at my disposal, yet this stuff is what I find myself reaching for almost everyday. I read all the negative reviews and stayed away from this until I found out about a chance to buy it for a price that was too good to refuse.
I am glad I bought it!
Wow! With so much cologne around me everyday I simply don’t get too excited about fragrances anymore; until now.
I always thought it was much too difficult to choose a signature scent. So many good scents that I would enjoy but get bored with quickly. Perhaps I will get tired of this at some point, but for now this has officially taken place as my SIGNITURE SCENT. And, dare I say, the best fragrance I have every tried. Also, the box and bottle are also as beautiful as any on the market.
For all those votes for this being a summer scent? I say no! This is a spring fall and winter scent. Amazing juice!

    Extraordinary…
Pure Energy is another beautiful flanker of Thierry Mugler’s A*Men line. The underlying DNA is the same from the original A*Men, but I detect something unique, an almost citrus vibe, to Pure Energy. I also agree with other reviewers that projection and longevity are less than other flankers, but I am actually OK with this. Previously, I would not even think about wearing a Mugler fragrance in the office, but Pure Energy is an exception. Totally acceptable and appropriate for office wear as projection dries down to arm’s length and around the 5 hour mark, Pure Energy settles to skin level. Regardless, I love this juice and highly recommend adding to all collections. Further, if you don’t have any Mugler fragrances in your current stable, try this one as a “starter”. It is not overpowering and will be a crowd pleaser.
Final tally of Pure Energy is 4.1 stars out of 5. I love the A*Men line and have many in my collection. Given the increased flexibility of Pure Energy, it may be one of my favorites in the line. If projection and longevity were better, Pure Energy would easily fit into my Top 5. Highly recommend and a solid love for the fragrance community.
Enjoy your day and happy fragrance hunting…

    At first, a confession:
I bought this because i have heard on the internet that it smells like the Deep Space Bodyspray from Axe.
And yes, it does. Not 100% exactly, but it comes close.
It is subtle, fresh, and a bit spicy- perfect for summer when terre de hermes would make you just smell like an often fired cannon breech.
I bought it this year and spent quite some hot evenings with it. I’d say it lasts longer than some here say it does, maybe 8 hours, but that is just a guess. my cloths always bear a slight hint the day after, if my aim somehow was impaired- the rubber cover wrapped around the spray button was not the best choice i would say.
    Anecdotal evidence it gets recognized:
My long time crush was walking besides me at a festival one evening when she out of the sudden grabbed me by the shirt with both hands, got closer, took a deep breath and said “you smell quite good!”.
No need to say this fragrance is one of my absolute favorites. 🙂

i’d really buy just for the bottle’s design sake, the white and blue looks perfect.

  27. :

    5 out of 5

The opening is quite robust, fresh, in your face and definitely has that A*Men vibe to it, however the really odd thing about this frag is that is doesn’t last at all. After about 40 minuets to an hour or so the scent is literally completely gone and I can’t smell anything at all from it. Not even a hint of a base-note drydown. It’s the weirdest thing, I almost want to say that this was not meant as a cologne, but more of a body spray (like those old school Bod Man ones). It’s as if the scent breakdown is that of all opening notes and no deep base notes.
With that said it is the perfect kind of frag you would wear to the gym or doing any other physical activity (out in the sun or otherwise). Because since the scent fades to nothing in about an hour, there is no chance of it ever becoming cloying, regardless of how much you spray on. And it is such a wonderful fresh smelling and invigorating scent while it lasts. It would also make a perfect fresh out of shower scent for be-bopping around the house or going shopping.
While I generally like my frags to have great longevity, I do have a place for ones that smell wonderful but don’t last long. Sometimes you just want that super-safe scent which you know will fade quickly and not hang around for 8+ hours.
I really like this one. And due to the poor reception of it, you can get a 3.4oz bottle for dirt cheap (easily less than $30). So at that price point, using liberally and re-spraying often is perfectly acceptable.

  28. :

    3 out of 5

After 20 minutes smells somehow like Kenzo Tokyo(pepper note). The base notes give a very masculine vibe in a modern way. There is a hint of original A*Men and a bit of terre d’hermes (pepper note).
    Projection: 2/5
    Longevity: 4/5 (8h)

  29. :

This is not gonna blow anyone away. It smells musky and clean and it dries down to a nice scent. This just does not last on my skin, for that I am not the biggest fan. I may wear it once a month, probably to the gym or after just to smell clean.
    Overall – 6.25 out of 10
    Scent – 7 out of 10

    Sillage – 7 out of 10

Lovely fresh spicy scent its just a pity about the longevity and projection I get from this one, unusually for a Mugler its quite weak on my skin

  31. :

    4 out of 5

It’s a fresh out of the shower smell mixed with a light gourmand. It’s nice, but the performance is terrible. You have to do like 10 sprays and nobody will notice it an hour later.

  32. :

This is a real shame because I am a HUGE TM A*MEN fan.
Besides The A*MEN Taste Of Fragrance flanker, this is the only other A*MEN Flanker FAIL for me. 1st off Pure Shot and Pure Energy share the same juice. So I will speak for both of them as one.
There is something weird going on here. Reminds me of being a kid and going to the beauty salon with my aunt & grandmother. The mixture of chemicals in the air with the smells coming off the blow drying caps. I know that sounds strange but that is the memory that was evoked when I sprayed the 1st and ONLY 3 sprays.
I am all too happy to SWAP out my NEW unboxed bottle which is full minus 3 sprays.
The bottle is absolutely beautiful though.

  33. :

    3 out of 5

In a nutshell, I think Pure Energy is a re-packaged clone of the discontinued Ice Men with the same lousy projection. But I also have to say that of all the A Men derivatives, this is by far my favourite bottle with its polar white and blue colourway that screams FRESH! and is almost worth owning for the bottle alone.
As for the smell, I like it for its resolute masculinity and inspired soapy-woody interpretation of “fresh” – no need for citruses or aquatic notes here. I also think it’s far more versatile for use than simply as a hot weather fragrance, and would work all year round as a daytime casual or office fragrance, but lacks the sparkle or charisma to be a clubbing or dating one. However, it also makes for a solid gym/sport fragrance, as I noticed that heat and sweat increase its projection significantly and so it might have just as appropriately been renamed “A Men Pure Sport”.
In summary, it’s different and intriguing and probably worth a buy if the price is right. However, it’s a like rather than a love from me (mainly because of the projection issue), and don’t bother with it if you already have or hate Ice Men.

  34. :

I got this on a blind buy on eBay for under 30 bucks.
Pretty sure it’s real because my unique number inside the box worked at the mugler site. It smells good, something that I would defently wear. I love mint. it has the Amen mint has when first sprayed. I also get some of the patchouli as well. It’s kind of what I consider unique. When I smell scents from the house of Mugler, I always seem to keep smelling them. This one is no different.
…. BUT (and this is a big ol’ but..) it has absolutely no projection and longevity. not just out of the amen line either, all of my cologne.. And most of my aftershaves too. I normally get great life out of scents!
If this is old juice then that’s one thing.. But if I paid full price and this is really all i get out from it.. I’d have to punch Miser Mugler in the face… But with the whole marketing fiasco this shot/energy has had, Thierry probably punched himself.
I was expecting to get some performance like Mugler cologne (which worked great in summer for me) but I get at most 45 minutes before becoming a skin scent, before dying off maybe 2hrs. I’ll try it and see in some warmer days here which it’s geared to. After having and wearing it for three days now.. Would I buy it again. nope! Only because it’s weak and no staying power. It’s a shame too, cause I think the scent would be my summer and spring signature.

I have worn a few Thierry Mugler A men Scents including A Men original, Metal, Pure Havane, and Ultra Zest. One of the Elements of Pure Energy caused contact dermatitis, even when sprayed on the outside of my clothing. I had recently gotten some new clothing and tried some new foods. I assumed the cause was the clothing until I washed it and verified the materials. Then I assumed the food, until I stopped eating those new items for a couple of weeks. By the time I figured out it was one of the elements of Pure Energy, areas of my skin were thick, red, scaly, inflamed, and always itchy. I am guessing it may have been the sequoia or the white pepper, but who knows.

  36. :

    5 out of 5

I got this as a blind buy today, because it was online and cheap. It is not a bad scent, but definitely not worth paying full price for it.
To me, it smells like exactly like Juniper Berries (Or think Pinecones kind of if you don’t know what juniper berries smell like). There is also a little bit of mint that makes blends pretty well together.
Definitely not bad, but I think I would rather have La Beau Male (smells kind of similar, because you would use it in the same situation, but La Beau Male is done better)

I bought this juice for $29.99 off fragrancenet.com last week and honestly, I really can’t understand the hate. I agree that it may not be upto the A*Men Pure line’s standard since Pure Malt & Pure Havane have set the fragrance world on fire. Pure Leather and Pure Coffee also recieve high marks as well. But, think this an interesting take on a fresh fragrance. I can’t see how anyone could find this even remotely offensive. I especially love the Juniper Berry note as well as the Seqouia wood note. To me, Pure Energy is a good gym scent & a good summer scent for rainy days. The vibe I get from this is summer time in New England on a cloudy day just after the rain stops in the late afternoon & the skies start to open up to a beautiful sunset . The calm after the storm.
My only issue with this juice is longevity and projection. This is the weakest juice in the A*Men lineup. Then again, for a fresh scent it isn’t bad. I get 3 hours of projection and about 6 hours of longevity. My skin is also naturally dry so you may have better luck. If this scent was a little more potent I could see this being a go-2 in my rotation for causual situations. Excellent scent no question. One of my favorites in the A*Men line-up.
    Scent: 8/10
    Performance: 5.5/10
    Bang for your buck: 9/10

All the hate on this fragrance is really beyond my comprehension. Half the people are still concerned about Oscar Pistorius being face of Pure Shot (the exact same fragrance as Pure Energy). You people may be adults, but you haven’t matured mentally. It is the same when kids refuse to put on A&F Fierce because of a man’s naked torso on the bottle. Seriously…grow up! I have seen accomplished Youtube reviewers complaining about the lack of ‘oomph’ from this creation of Thierry Mugler. How about stop looking at the fragrance house and/or the ambassador and enjoy a fragrance for what it is?
This is a beautifully crafted fragrance with a few but definitive ingredients. The exquisite soapiness, the unconventional burst of herbal freshness puts this on the category of Prada Infusion D’Homme with the DNA of Aramis. Pure Energy is more than the alcoholic mint beginning. In the middle, the herbal freshness dries down to bright patchouli and the essence of a freshly chopped wood that probably is the sequoia. This smells like artisanal shampoo body wash and it is like an aromatherapy on its own. What I get is the feeling of walking through dark pine forests in the mountains after an autumn rain has just passed making way for smell of wet woods, tree bark being absorbed by Mother Earth, and the accompanying cool breeze. It is not an olfactory orgasm, but it evokes a sense of heightened pleasure on those who love the smell of the dark side of nature. Impossible to not smile when I get the occasional whiffs whenever I have it on. The white (or pink?) pepper in the drydown is absolutely stunning. For the untrained nose – imagine pencil shavings made of the most fragrant and expensive woods what have been dipped in sweet mint syrup.
Contrary to the people saying this is strictly a summer scent, I see it more of a crisp cloudy summer evening, fall/winter scent when the falling leaves, the smell of dried woods and the cool breeze would supplement it like no other seasonal trait. It is fresh and invigorating but not all fresh scents have to be for summer. Winter may kill the longevity and sweat magnify it but I can see how the harsh Kansas sun where I live can make it stink during the summer.
The scent cloud is weak making it more of a personal scent, and the longevity would depend on the skin type and climate you use it in. I have a feeling the base notes are there to stay a solid 6 hours regardless.
Men, wear it on any occasion, but especially put it on during daytime winter outings with your partner. Your woman will form memories out of this scent and see you for the top dog you are 😉

  41. :

I got a lot of pepper and other spices in my Pure Energy in a fresh blend. The mint note makes it kind of cold yet the pepper makes it warm so it’s like a slight contradiction. This fragrance needs a special kind of wearer. I need to apply at least six sprays to get a moderate sillage and moderate longevity so that’s not the best performance I know. But I’m a woman maybe that’s why Pure Energy doesn’t get to do all its magic on me.
    Edit:
I gave my bottle to my father and he smells super nice for a long time with just two sprays. Pepper and freshness, masculine. Thumbs up!

    A strong, sharp, spicy-woody smell.
Not impressed to be honest but it’s not a bad smell at all.

    5 out of 5

I was skeptical about purchasing this frag, but I have been presently surprised since I first tried this out. This is definitely working for me during the hot summer weather. As I’ve read from other reviewers, this dry-down is great. The top notes are kind of misleading as to what is to come. The sequoia really shines through after about 30-40 minutes and remains until this completely evaporates. I would recommend it for a fresh woody scent, as long as that is your kind of thing you won’t be disappointed. I also found this for 42 bucks at Ross.

    What a Dry down!
To begin with, while i liked it, it smelt like washing up liquid, as the day went on it just got better and better. the dry down is fantastic, which makes this Frag worth the £25 i paid for it (new). . .very clean smelling. perfect for work.
But i will be wearing this as my casual scent this summer, Dior Sport for occasions and Bvgari Aqva for beach fun this summer.
Also this one lasts well over 9 hours on me,

i’m not going into comparison…i liked/had ‘ice men’ and i like/have ‘pure energy’…there is quite some matching DNA in my opinion…
But let’s stick to ‘pure energy’…when it’s boiling hot outside this one will give you that minty patchouli ice cold refreshing breeze that will separate you from the others because let’s face it….neither pure shot, ice men nor pure energy are ‘common summer smells’…but they are truely awesome to me (also longevity and sillage-wise, certainly on fabric)…Everyone will notice it…’oh my God this guy doesn’t smell ‘summery generic’ , this one smells …can I say it Dear Lord this one smells ‘Summerly Divine’…
    A*MEN
I’m gonna try this when it’s freezing outside i think it will be….???

I see a lot of bashing for this fragrance as many Thierry Mugler fans are only expecting gourmand scents so I had to get one and see what the fuss is all about.
This is a non-gourmand, fresh scent that is more suited for hot climate use. The scent does try to project a cold feeling and is successful to a certain extend.
It is a solid fragrance and is well better than many summer scents out there. Longevity is decent and siliage is just right. However to me the scent is too ‘cold’ that I get absolutely zero warmth from it. It’s emotionless so to speak. I can’t see myself putting it on and having a blast out doors. I would use this for office use.
Overall, a good effort but seems like a wayward son compared to the other gourmand scents in its line.

i have tested it twice at local parfume shop. really liked the smell, especially powerful drydown, but it looks like projection is not so good, while longeivity is great (i could smell it tomorrow on my skin), and sillage is amazing. it seems that few more sprays does its job for this one. price is pretty good – 45 euros for 100ml bottle. i think i will buy it in few days, and ill post update when fully tested.
    UPDATE:
tested it many times and i really like the smell, while it lasts 🙂 it dies quickly on me, unfortunately. it supposed last longer on warmer wather so i might update again when test it on higher temps.

Very fresh and really lovely EDT. Longevity very good too. No A*men note though but it’s a lovely unique scent and nicely blended. Starts with mint and juniper, later on the pepper with woods comes through more. Pure Energy is nothing like Ice Men – Pure Energy is much nicer with more character. This has quite a potent fresh silage too. I think Pure Energy is a special fragrance and now in my top six.

Perfect if you want to take that Mugler A*men vibe on holiday with you. Clean, fresh, green, peppery with the same berry vibe from Pure Malt. Reminds me most of Pure Havane. Its like a lighter version of PH with a peppery vibe on dry down. Winter currently in Uk. It performs for about 3-4 hours. Projection is good but close. Definitely for summer. But its doing just fine in the cold. Really really fond of it. Muglers A*men fragrances always create a sense of wonderment and magic… finally I can take that vibe on holiday with me. Also reminds me a bit of Mugler Cologne and CH 212 men.
Ive been wearing this in the gym. Upon sweating and increased it pulses out in waves when I thought dormant. Cant wait to take this to Greece later this year.

Thrilling, explosive, intense. A big blast of mint and juniper berries … joined by spices … cardamom, white pepper … and then a strong dose of patchouli and a hint of wood in the background. One of a kind cool sensation when it touches the skin … powerful sillage … and great
