Do you remember a movie called Gone in 60 seconds? Well this is it’s spiritual sequel – Gone in 30 seconds. I get some woodyness and maybe the slightest sliver of lemon in the beginning, it actually smells like the cardboard box that it came in. Just moments later, it is barely a skin scent at all. £125.00 for 50ml? No thanks, would not pay any sort of money for a practically non-existent scent. Le Labo, what are you doing?

Very nice and comforting smell nothing to do with baby or breast milk scent … ugh…i dont know from when babies smell with limon, musk and amber…
Longevity is very short and it is close to skin …. nobody around me smells it no matter how many sprays I do… it looks like it disappears right away

You’re a sharp pear, pressed, juiced, diluted with sweet and sweaty breast milk, and then fed to a baby. Your existence is brief, lukewarm, and unremarkable. Ambrette 9 by Le Labo.

I love this fragrance! Ambrette 9 is definitely a soft-spoken fragrance, but I certainly do not have any problems with longevity. In fact, when sprayed on fabric, it lasts for days.
I can see why this is billed a mother-baby fragrance. It is very tender and comforting, soft fruity clean musks. Really embodies a mother’s hug.
If you like fragrances such as Annick Goutal’s Petite Chérie, I think you would adore Ambrette 9. PC is like the fresher, springtime cousin, while Ambrette is the cozy, fall/winter edition.
Glad I discovered Ambrette 9 and added it to my collection.

To me, this is what summer sunshine smells like.

I absolutely love this fragrance. I see so many complaints of longevity and projection but even though I disagree, I think that was the goal when making this MASTERPIECE. It’s so intimate, soft & subtle but still projects for those up close & personal. Leaves you feeling calm & relaxed & I swear this has to be the loveliest ambrette frag I’ve ever smelled. It’s so warm & fluffy with subtle hints of clean cotton sheets just washed with baby detergent. I LOVE IT!

I tried it from the Le Labo discovery set. It has a lovely smell with fruits but not too sweet. The smell made me feel relax and comfortable but it wasn’t long lasting. I only can smell a very slightly scent after 10 mins.

the scent practically tones down in less than 5 seconds! l’ve never had such experience with any other fragrances; well, some Gucci’s have such characteristics too but not that fast (well, coincidentally the nose behind it is the same for Rush and Rush 2, which both fragrances are very weak).
l can’t even give any further comments about the fragrances cause they are gone already!
    This perfume is a ghost…

I just tried it on my Le Labo discovery set. Knew nothing about being marketed as a baby’s fragrance or something like that.
I sprayed it once. Felt nothing but some alcohol. Actually I had a hard time figuring out where in my arm I sprayed it.
I sprayed a dozen more times. Again, after the very faint alcohol perception, I get nothing anywhere. I was actually concerned that my set went bed with the flight or something like that, but I guess it’s just this fragrance is really way too soft.

I understand the complaints of poor longevity and projection, but people must understand what they’re signing up for when they purchase/sample a perfume marketed for mothers and babies. It is not meant to make your baby or yourself smell of perfume, it’s meant to enhance the musky, milky natural body odours that come with being around or nurturing your baby. However, my obsession with this scent requires that I wear the Ambrette 9 body lotion under it for maximum projection, and it does a great job of anchoring the scent. Even under other perfumes the lotion smells great. A soft, apple-y musk reminiscent of baby wash and Arrowroot cookies, a little bit of fresh laundry, warm milk. Give it a try now that you know what to expect, it’s really beautiful and quite caters to those who wish to avoid the pedestrian spices/candy floss/white floral blends of mainstream perfumery.

I can’t say I see much merit in Le Labo Ambrette 9 at all. The opening is an acerbic mix of alcohol and rotten fruit, and it dries down to a gentler, sweeter version of the opening. I’d just as well wear no fragrance at all as opposed to something like this at a niche cost. It’s not repulsive, just bizarre and underwhelming from both the standpoints of performance and scent, almost to the point that I’d guess I’d received a bad sample if it weren’t an official Le Labo sample. Not much else to say apart from recommending against a blind buy.

    Scent – creamy, milky, musk.
Season/Time of Day – I prefer to use this one in the warmer months, day or night.
    Projection – I didn’t get noticed, I didn’t get a compliment.
    Longevity – I get 12hrs consistently.

Although I love this scent from the bottle, sprayed on me, it just disappears and you can hardly smell it at the end of the day. You’d need to bring it along with you and keep spraying. That being said, this is a unique fragrance which I love which is why I skipped the Le Labo Santal and got this instead. Smells natural, fresh, like a baby’s powdered head mixed with a milky-soft fragrance.

On me this ends up as a super soft milky Anise scent with the slightest touch of sparkly citrus. Clean and simple, but super comforting at the same time. It definitely draws people closer.
There are moments when it reminds me of Jo Malone Nectarine Blossom and Honey, and a super soft and creamier La Chasse Aux Papillons, oddly enough.
I can also understand the sweaty milky baby, or yoga girls fresh out of the shower, as other reviewers compared it to, but there’s just something about the milky Anisic dry down that puts this “dainty” scent as the Le Labo salesman called it, on my love and Christmas present list, and makes me almost forget that I originally balked at the price.
I also love that it achieves this level of softness, while still having a distinct smell and doesn’t veer into the land of powder.

As one of the other posters mentioned, Ambrette 9 reminds me of a baby’s breath after drinking milk. It also smells a bit sweaty to me….innocent baby sweat that makes me think they need a bath.
I can see why some people love it and why some hate it. Unfortunately, it is not for me and my body chemistry, but I do find it to be a rather interesting and unique fragrance.

Very early on in my fragrance journey I discovered I absolutely love ambrette seeds. I was very excited when I ordered this sample from lucky scent, having high expectations I am disappointed.
I like labo’s idea for this perfume and it’s originality in composition but I just don’t really like it. When first applied I get a weird banana smell. I don’t really love the dry down either. I just really don’t like the apple and pear notes in here, I think they are awkward. I am not really into fruity perfumes as a whole.
I think I prefer ambrette combined with the traditional woods and iris. I think I will try Chanel no. 18 to see if it’s more of a middle of the road take between the fruity notes and a traditional ambrette.

When I was riding the train I kept thinking the 2 ladies (in yoga outfits) next to me smell soooo good (in a natural way). When I exited the train, 45 minutes later, I continued to smell it and realized it was me. This smells like a great-smelling female (lotioned up/hairspray/makeup/etc) who just got done working out at the gym. So in other words . . . this has a sweet natural musky smell. If you want to smell good in a natural way, this is for you. I’d imagine one would make a great impression wearing this in close/intimate situations.
And this doesn’t smell like Byredo’s Mojave Ghost but I totally see the comparison. They perform the same way. Both are subtly loud. They’re both that quiet girl/guy who everyone admires when they walk into a room.

Fragrances have a strange way of evoking memories in us of past experiences and past events. I’m a big time fan of the Le Labo house on the whole, that being said, some of their offerings downright turn me off……. Case in point: Ambrette 9! I recently bought two 100ml bottles of Bergamote 22 & Fleurs D’Oranger 27, both of which are FABULOUS…. As a courtesy, Isaac- their stellar manager in New York, sent me a few samples…… Labdanum 18 didn’t do much for me as I found the initial blast to be a big turn-off…. Interestingly though, I was rather surprised later on at how smooth and sexy the drydown was……. A very soft powdery skin scent. Sweet powdery and slightly animalistic IMO, smells ever so slightly of soft leather….
Perhaps some of you know where I’m coming from when I say this. Not sure what it is exactly, but I will have to consider the frag more carefully to see what exactly accounts for such a nice transition in the scent….
Back to Ambrette 9! Memories: I’m from a very large family of nine children and I’m the ONLY son. – the 3rd last to be exact. So I had the privilege/frustration of assisting from time-to a-time in taking care of. my younger sisters….. The initial opening of Ambrette 9 is eerily similar to that EXACT, rather pungent and somewhat stale odour I got after gently rubbing my baby sisters’ backs after their bottle and they burp, sometimes even burping up some of the Similac/Good Start/Enfamil they were drinking….. I found it a but foul then and I was racking my brain for several minutes trying to figure out: “what the heck is this”? Well, after about 5 minutes, it hit me smack it the face- “regurgitated milk”….. Haven’t gotten to the drydown yet, but as of now, that is EXACTLY what I get and for those of you who are mothers or who have ever nursed, I’m pretty confident you’ll grasp the comparison I’m making….
What a strange concept?!?!?! A frag that reminds you of your infant sister burping in your face after feeding….. Wow!!! Now I’ve got to get the image out of my mind by reflecting on the nice ones I’m about to sample in the City Exclusives Line: Tubereuse 40, Gaiac 10, Limette 37…………… (*_*)

I collect Le Labo fragrances; Ambrette 9 was the last one I purchased to complete my collection – it’s for baby, to begin with. (I wouldn’t want to spray a baby with perfume, to be honest.) I see very little reason why an adult wants to own this very mild and watery scent that accomplishes very little as a perfume. It’s not sophisticated, almost no sillage and longevity. It’s a pleasant skin scent for summer, I give you that.
On a side note, after smelling quite a few perfumes with Super ISO-E in their formula, I suspect Ambrette 9 has quite a bit of such chemical in it. If you like that smell, may be you should consider Le Labo’s Another 13, because it’s a Super ISO-E bomb.

The mixed reviews of this fragrance are very interesting and puzzling?
It’s possible that people where expecting a heavier musky fragrance, but if you think about it, this fragrance was intended for Mom’s and Baby’s. I guess they were trying to capture that clean baby scent that parents love so much. So, it’s supposed to be light and fleeting. Can you imagine if you spray something into your child’s crib that smelled like a goats butt? Not so good!
All jokes aside, this is a strange and wonderful formula! I tried it on before I was told about the baby scent thing and immediately thought it to be like clean skin, but almost pheromone-like and sensual. Since that time I’ve worn it on several occasions and every time, without fail, someone sticks their nose into my neck and gives me that dreamy look. Woah! What? Really? Yes… No joke!
It has that affect on everyone who sniffs me. Yeah, it’s light and barely noticeable to me, but it’s the perfect fragrance to wear when you don’t want to appear to be wearing one, yet you still want be noticed. Perfect for the office, the gym and really good for going on a date. Sometimes it’s okay to wear something that you don’t like so much, but if other people love it on you, then it’s a hit!

Ambrette is a such a lovely fragrance note, soft, musky, gentle. I was expecting a simple, pretty scent that stayed close to the skin. But I didn’t expect to be so utterly disappointed.
Ambrette smells like it’s namesake briefly, with a nice hint of powdery amber, but hugs the skin as if for dear life, despite multiple sprays. For this reason alone, I couldn’t justify Le Labo’s price tag. However once the fruity notes pick up they overwhelm what little there was to work with in this scent and it begins to smell, well, cheap. Cheap, thin and synthetic and it vanishes after maybe two hours. There is really nothing good I can say about this fragrance.

I had this made for me at the original lab in New York,
sadly now i cant stand it, smells like juniper berries
& gin. The exclusive factor was lost as i can now buy it
in my home town. (made up on request).

Smells just like the apple cordial we have in our kitchen cupboard! It has that slightly watery, sweet, sorbet-type thing going on. It makes me think of summer dresses and ice cream vans! 🙂
Although it’s light it last several hours on my skin, which pleasantly surprised me. Very inoffensive, definitely subtle, maybe a little too “safe”, if you know what I mean. My personal opinion is that it doesn’t really feel like perfume. It’s one of those scents that’s quite pleasant but I wouldn’t pay money for it.
It’s quite pretty and if I smelt it on someone else it would strike me as a very young scent. Borders on bubblegum to my nose. If you don’t like sweet scents it might be best to test this before buying!

This is very intimate. So subtle, and yet leaves a thin cloud of comfort around you.
I mostly get the ambrette and slight musk, and not much pear. It is extremely light, so it’s perfect for those days when I don’t want too much fragrance.
This is versatile-I can wear this all year round, during the day or before I go to bed at night, and it’s such a soothing scent.
It’s clean, it’s gentle, and my 3 year old loves it on me. He buries himself in my arms when he smells this, telling me ‘you smell so good!’ ^^

Fruity musk. Ambrette 9 is a thin and synthetic concoction of slightly acidic, sort of fresh, fruit and musks. The fragrance is so subtle that initially I couldn’t detect anything but a light (non-sweet) fruityness but as it started to react with the skin, synthetic musks made their presence clearer turning Ambrette 9 into a transparent, inoffensive but overall pleasant “clean-fragrance” Nice but unremarkable.
Lovers of the “Jardins” serie by Hermes should dig this.

ambretta?fruit!!intense fruit not so sweet like could be a fruity frag
I smell apple juice and pear.. it stings a little
    not for me
it remember me byredo pulp ’cause they are both an overdose of fruit

Very, very, very subtle, almost imperceptible, musky, pear and baby powder fragrance.
Nice for people who like an incredibly weak scent and are embarrassed to wear perfume in the first place… but I would have thought the high price would be a big deterrent for them.
I would recommend Luten’s Daim Blond if you’d like a pear scent you can actually smell.

I love Le Labo because their fragrances are almost always weird smelling, and I love weird. However, Ambrette 9 in this case might be a little too strange for me to comprehend.
It’s a very light, intimate fragrance which is what I initially noted. Ambrette is not a note I am familiar with, and now that I have experienced it, I’m not too keen. This fragrance smells musky, but not in a dirty, sexy, animalic way. It’s like a white, powdery musk blended with sugar-free marshmallows and pistachios. But it’s not a gourmand.
On the skin it’s light and fluffy. Some reviewers are saying that it’s a scent for a baby. Well I’d prefer my babies to smell natural and to be honest it’s quite an expensive fragrance for a one year old. Supposedly it’s meant to compliment your own skin scent.
I agree with Henri345que, it does smell like cotton. The actual scent of clothes before they’re washed and scented with laundry detergent. Ambrette 9 is such an odd fragrance that I see myself going off on all kinds of tangents trying to describe it.
It doesn’t last unfortunately, which is a shame because Le Labo is usually known for their killer sillage and fantastic lasting power. I think my issue with Ambrette 9 is that I find it bland and lacking in character. It’s a fragrance which has me confused as to who actually buys it.
I love musk in scents, particularly Kiehl’s Original Musk, but this fragrance is under par in that department. I don’t think I could possibly express my disappointment in any other way than through this review.
