This is my first experience with Al Rehab and sadly, it’s not the best one. This one has a distinct ammonia smell that I can’t seem to get past. I was told that this is normal but not consistent with all Rehab oils so I’m hoping this one was a just from a bad batch.
After the ammonia has toned down (it doesn’t fade away entirely, it lingers quietly), I get a cool, soft, herbally rose with just a hint of sweetness. I’m not a fan of very sweet, powdery roses so I quite like this. I can’t say much else as certain characteristics of this,sharp/bitterness may be contributed to the ammonia smell and not the fragrance itself. I will update this when and if I get my hands on one from a different batch.
Update:
So some Al Rehabs do have an ammonia smell but not all. Amber Rose is just one of them.

This is not what I expected, but I’m not disappointed. I have the oil, and there is DEFINITELY an herbal mint note at the top that makes this quite cool.
The rose is crisp and gentle. Not sharp, and not dark. It’s simple and lovely.
But really, it’s the amber that carries this fragrance. It give it depth and purpose.
Interestingly, I have a hard time detecting the scent when I sniff the spot of application a couple of hours after first applying. But I can still smell it clearly in the air. So strange. I also smell it in the morning when I wear this at night. It’s a sly little minx!
One more note, I don’t get the Montale Intense Cafe. There’s no coffee or oud in this, to my nose, and MIC has both in heaps. If you want a MIC dupe, it’s Lulu Gallery’s Bindt Al Kahleej. That is pretty much right on.

This seems kind of green to me… someone had mentioned this smelling like Intense Cafe and I don’t really see it. This isn’t a syrupy sweet rose, but it is kind of sweet. Despite that it isn’t intense cafe, it is a very nice fragrance. Seems fairly straight forward to me: a slightly green rose with a few amber notes. It’s very good and totally worth the price.
edit: Now that I’ve been wearing this, I’ve noticed that this is a very versatile rose. It has sweet, almost deep facets at times but it remains light and fresh. This has become my go to rose fragrance. It’s simple but well executed.
And I could definitely smell a little mint in the opening Ptilda mentioned!

This fragrance is a poem about grief, written in the scent of a rose, a deep, sad, low note from an oboe heard across an empty graveyard on a damp autumn day. The eponymous rose is cold, wine-like, reminiscent of dried petals. There’s zero sharpness to this, what roses become not what they begin as. The amber is not prominent, largely adding to its melancholy nature. If you are looking for vanilla notes, this is not the fragrance you want. On the other hand, if you are looking for a distinctly different rose scent, one suited to the colder months, this one is for you.

i got the 3ml rllerball-and i agree-there is oud-but it isn’t the primary note-and what amount there is just blends beautifully into the rose….andthe amber sts in the background, patiently remaining the faithful steady note-waiting for his cue.
the first couple of hours the rose is a semi-sweet, but when it gets past that 2 hour mark it just gets rich and deep-and finally blends into the amber- the change is amazing.
longevity is at least 6-7 hours-at which time it turns into a slightly more than skin scent…..but what a skin scent!
definitely worth the $1.80 i paid for it!

Ok I’ve had this for about a month now, never tried it on,just let it sit in my cabinet. This morning i decided to swip some on and immediately i thought, this smells so familiar, why do i know this smell? Then realized, IT SMELLS JUST LIKE MONTALE INTENSE CAFE! No joke! The amber and rose smell identical to intense cafe. I love this stuff! I don’t get anything harsh or chemical at all. Its sweet, warm and classy. Gourmand rose. Delicious! There will be people who will disagree or think it’s not good but Thank God my chemistry loves amber rose! I smell edible and amazing! I own intense cafe and I’m serious when i say they smell the same. A few hours in the sweetness fades a little and it becomes more oud/rose dominant but still has some amber and is not medicinal. Im excited! Sillage moderate to heavy, longevity about 7 hours on skin.

This was harsh, bitter and dry. I blind bought it for the notes, but it’s too sharp for me, there just isn’t enough softness in the florals. I do get a touch of either Oud or sandalwood but it just adds to the overall harshness of this fragrance.
If you are looking for a softer rose than this one with less bitterness, then I recommend Al Rehab Moroccan Rose.

This one’s great, smells expensive, like classic soft rose-oud combo (i must say i feel oud in all al-rehabs, even if it’s not listed in the notes). Makes me want to buy more al-rehabs! : )
